Installed leopard on g5, nothing works, please advise

Hi,
I recently installed leopard on my g5. it seemed to be okay until i did two things; first, early last week i activated file vault; then on friday, i installed logic pro 8. since then, nothing but trouble. permissions are all screwed up, disk utility fixes, then they get screwed up again. for a while the icons on the desktop disappeared (i spent 90 minutes on the phone with applecare on that, to no avail). i reinstalled leopard, same problems. the registration on other software (final cut, logic, aperture, word, etc) disappeared, so until i can find the reg #'s (my bad, i know, but still...), i can't use them. i couldn't even turn off file vault until i cleared 45 gigs on my hard drive which was apparently needed to turn it off.
so here i sit, trying to figure out if i should buy a new mac pro for 3 grand. i called applecare before installing leopard and asked if i'd have problems; 'no way," i was told, not with all that ram, should be fine.
but it isn't. is getting someone to install leopard on a power pc just a way to boost sales of new computers (which is what's happening at my house, because i work on this machine; without it, i'm screwed)?
have many people have these problems? i've done reinstalls; safe boots; booted up in unix; booted up on the installer disc; and still this **** machine is so unstable that just turning it on and off without a problem makes me seem fortunate.
should i just grit my teeth, be thankful for a few years with the g5 and get a mac pro?
advice please..

6. This used to work in bringing a user to the folder view i specify. Now it does nothing. If i go back to the PDF and EDIT the Link i see this. File: Parent Document Page 1. This in fact does nothing.
Please advise, am i doing this wrong, it used to work. I have tried several workarounds, with no luck.

There's an extension or two, or a combination of extensions which seem to be causing that in Firefox 6.0.2. One that has been mentioned is TabMix Plus.

You need to figure out what is causing it, and disable that extension/s until they are fixed by their developer.

It's best to use the latest version of Firefox if you can, but you can download Firefox 26 here:

Just choose your locale (British English is en-GB, American English is en-US, etc) and then click the link for the apk file. :)

After installing Leopard iChat won't work, it quits unexpectedly

I just installed Leopard successfully, yet iChat, iCal and Address Book stopped working. Every time I click on them it quits unexpectedly

I found the issue (at least on my computer), the links in my doc weren't updated. They were trying to open the old version of iCal. I deleted iCal, iChat, & Address Book from my dock and the associated old apps (i had them in a subfolder). Now when I open iCal from the Applications folder it works fine.

After installing on win-32 nothing works. HELP!

I installed xe 11g on local mashine. All installation parameters are default except http port. It adviced me 8081 and i agreed. (8080 is used by another tool).
All installation was Ok.
I restart my computer.
Nothing works. Only startdb and stop db.

If you are not part of the prerelease program, you would have got a preview build which accepts 4.0 serial numbers. Please let us know where you downloaded the build from. Also please let us know the build number. Build number can be found in the bottom right of the dialog that opens up using Help > Flash Builder Notices and credits menu item after you launch FB.
Can you try with the version available under http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder_burrito/

Certain symbol fonts installed but not working, please advise

I'm trying to edit an entire website in Flash that uses Zapf Dingbats font symbols. I had upgraded my computer since last working on the website and had not re-installed the font, so I did so with my copy of the font suitcase. FontBook installs and displays it correctly, but no applications on my Mac will display the font properly—when I select it, I just get regular alphabetic characters. I tested some other fonts and found another that does the same thing: Apple Symbols, which was pre-installed on my computer. I tried restarting to no avail.
What could be causing these fonts not to work properly? Thanks in advance!

Oh thank you so much for this tip! It does work to insert symbols from all the various fonts that offer them, but it doesn't explain why one can no longer choose Dingbats from the font menu and type the various characters, nor why all my Zapf Dingbats symbols in all my Flash animations now show up as "+" symbols (and Flash warns me that Zapf Dingbats is not installed on my system when opening the files, even though it is).
However, your tip has allowed me to find the symbol I need in Pages, then copy and paste it into Flash. I will have to replace dozens and dozens of instance of this symbol in my Flash files, but at least it works!

Quicktime simply does not work, please advise!

There must be something wrong with my Macbook Pro Version 10.6.2, perhaps its too old to allow QuickTime to work? Maybe I need to buy another Macbook thats more up to date?
When I open QuickTime player from the Applications folder, it appears in my dock, but nothing else happens. There is no window that actually allows me to do anything with QuickTime. This could be normal, but I am not sure.
I've been trying to play this movie: http://club2009.upa.org/videos/open-finals for a while now and all that happens is the QuickTime logo appears where the video should be playing. I followed the link at the bottom that says something like 'Problem viewing videos? Download latest QuickTime player'. So I downloaded the latest QuickTime player from the site and during the installation, this message appears:
'QuickTime can't be installed on this disk. This version of QuickTime 7 can't be installed on this disk because QuickTime X is already present. Please us Software Update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your Mac.'
This is quite frustrating. Please help!

It's a huge file but it opens and works for me when I copy/paste the URL (above) into the Open URL dialog window of QuickTime X and 7.6.6 (requires Snow Leopard 10.6.3).
Run Software Update on your machine.
