Installed lion and no internet

I've installed Lion and now I have no Internet access except in the "root" account.  In the root account, everything works so far.  But if I open my user account and a different admin account (not root), the Internet doesn't work at all.  This applies to both Ethernet and wireless.  ideas about what to do?  I'm on a Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM.  In the accounts that I can't access the internet in, I am able to run Software Update and have been able to update other pieces of software as well without a problem.  But the moment I try to browse the net, it just doesn't work.

I tried uninstalling the virus scanner I had, but doing so didn't resolve the problem for me.

Music is not included in the backup (and nor are films or tv shows), only the contents of third-party apps are included. Did you not do File > Transfer Purchases when connected to your computer's iTunes to copy your iTunes purchases over, and/or have you not got a backup copy of your music somewhere e.g. on an external drive ?

  • Just installed Lion and now my trackpad will not zoom

Just installed Lion and now my trackpad will not zoom in and out and the direction of going up and down have reversed.

I have had Lion since it was first released July 20th, and I have noticed that I can not zoom in on everything that is on the internet, some things seem to not be able to be zoomed in on.  Are you saying that no matter what website you go to (this one for eample) the zoom function does not work?

  • How do I install lion and format the hard drive?

How do I install lion and format the hard drive, as though this was a new mac.

If your Mac is a 2011 model and originally came with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple then you can use the Internet Recovery HD system to Wipe/Erase the Complete drive and Re-Install Lion.
If it is an older model, even and early 2011 model, that did NOT come with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple you can not sell or give it away with Lion installed on it. You have to install the original version of OS X on it.

    Hi Mary and Matthew
You might find it helpful to "try before you buy" - there is a 30 day free trial offer for Office for Mac 2011, accessible from M's .com website.
You may be able to use this period to open and resave your old documents in a format that enables you to switch instead to using Apple's iWorks apps moving forward.
I initially intended to do something similar, but ended up buying Office as it provided an easier way (for me, at least) to continue working with years worth of old emails, letters, spreadsheets and other documents (from my PC days) without risking damage to their integrity, formatting, etc.

  • How do I install LION and partition SL 10.6.8 run on same imac?

Hello If one could tell me step by step instructions:
I would like to install LION ( because icloud), but can I install LION and partition the OS so that my imac can run both SL 10.6.8 and LION?
SL 10.6.8 still runs some applications that LION will never be able to run.
So I really need LION installed, but also have SL 10.6.8 partitioned so I can run imovie HD6 with plug ins with SL 10.6.8.
Please if this can be done so I can run Lion and SL 10.6.8 on same computer
thank you so much in advance
    please advise
    scott

Wow, thank you Niel.  I have looked on this site and have found many different ways listed on partitioning and using 2 OS on a computer.  But there steps seemed very long and tedious- but of  course if that is what is needed then i would do it that way. Again i was seeing a lot of different ways. But yours seemed direct.
I went thru the steps up until using the thumb drive for LION to install. I went in to  disk utilities, i selected mydrive, clicked on the partition tab, and then i saw i had 96.7 GB available--without changing SL10.6.8 HD size.
it looks like you can drag and increase/decrease the partitions with the mouse control.
I really need LION for icloud, and if so all other applications EXCEPT imovieHD6
So i need to run SL for imovieHD6 the other applications like word, adobe creative suite, excel, etc ican use LION.
do you recommend having the partitions equal in GB?
    I have a 250gb hard drive
should I split the partitions evenly between the two OS?
or should one OS get more GB than another?

  • How do you un-install Lion and go back to Leopard?

How do I un-install Lion and return to  Leopard?

I believe you mean to return to Snow Leopard:
    Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

No you just need to turn on Tap to Click. Go into System Preferences - Trackpad and click the Point to Click tab and select the first box which will say Tap to Click and you should be in business.

  • Itunes will not open after installing lion and software updates

I just installed lion and completed the most recent software updates for my computer, now i cannot get iTunes to open without it "unexpectedly quitting" on me. Has anyone else had this problem or knows what to do?

You can try two things - Open Disk Utility and repair all permissions for your hard disk and / or delete the iTunes Preferences plist file in userhome/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
However, Lion now hides this Library folder in your user home folder, so you will need to open the Terminal app and type
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
    and press return
This will show the Library folder

  • I have installed Lion and have problems to print PDF from prewiev.

I have installed Lion and have problems to print PDF from prewiev. When trying to print Prewiev locks. Anyone out there with the same problem?

    Hello David and Nicole
I just installed Lion on my iMac, which was purchased in 2007, and I cannot print from Preview; it keeps locking up and not responding. So, I have to force quit Preview. I have been sending error reports to Apple. I suggest everyone who has this problem, send error reports!
I can print from other applications, like Pages, with my Canon Laserjet. I do not think it is a printer issue becasue I can print in other application.
I took your advice and installed Adobe reader. Now I can print pdf's.
    Thanks
    Ed

You don't.  Apple no longer ships Front Row... it's part of the OS... so it goes away when you upgraded.

  • Installed Lion and couldn't open any of my saved Appleworks Docs(.cwk)

I had just installed Lion and all of a sudden whenever I tried to open a document saved from Apple Works with the extention .cwk, I wouild get the message, "You can't open the application 6.app because Power PC application is no longer supported.
Just wanted to share what worked.  I downloaded iWork Pages.  In pages drop down I clicked "open".  My documents files opened.  Clicked on a file ending with .cwk.  After it opened and was readable, I clicked "save" in Pages.  It changed the extention to .pages and was saved in my documents.

Appleworks is a very old piece of software which will not run under Lion.
You seem to have come up with a good solution though

Thanks for the link. It is a wealth of good info.  I still haven't been able to determine what caused my crash, but with the link you provided I should be able to track it down.  Hopefully it was just a one time thing.  After using the power button and rebooting all seems ok now.  Thanks again.
