Installed Lion, mouse no longer right-clicks

Just upgraded my 5-year old Mac Pro to Lion (10.7).  The OS no longer recognizes a right-click on the mouse (standard mouse with the scroll ball).  I see where to turn it on and off in Preferences...the right button is set to "secondary button."  However it functions just like the primary button.  It worked fine under 10.6.  I do also have a TrackPad installed but disabling it does not seem to affect the mouse function.

Okay, after a couple of reboots this problem seems to be gone.

  • Mouse will only right click

Today I started up my macbook and found that when I went to use the mouse ever click was opening the context menu. I tried turning off my mighty mouse and used the track pad only, and still had this problem. So I turned off the right click in the mouse preferences, and restarted.. and it temporarily fixed the problem, but when I put a blank CD into the drive to burn a CD the mouse returned to right clicks only. I have also noticed that if I click on the airport icon, or any other icon in the top menu, the icon's context menus cycle through from the left to the right as if each icon's context menu is being opened. This is very frustrating and had completely prevented me from using my mac book at all. Has any one had this problem before, or does anyone have a solution.
I have all system updates installed, and no new hardware or software has been installed before this happened; it literally happened overnight.

If you don't use the mouse at all, does the trackpad behave normally? Are you clicking by tapping the trackpad twice or by using the trackpad button?
Is there another computer you could use the mouse with?

After installing Lion, iMovie09  no longer sees my Canon AVCHD.  It finds photos. Anybody found a way to fix this?

Is that with the camera directly connected or with the card in a card reader?
I haven't tried in a while, but I know it worked in Lion at some point. I did all my uploading with a card reader, so that may be the difference.

  • Installed snow leopard and the right click on my mouse no longer works. Any ideas?

I just replaced my hard drive and installed a clean copy snow leopard with all updates. The right mouse button (normal wired mouse that came with imac) with the menu drop down is no longer working. changed secondary button in mouse settings and got the right click menu but now when I right click the file or group of files are no longer highlighted. this *****. any ideas?? Between the hassle of replacing a hard drive, mouse problems, firefox, opera, office mac and elgato tv problems and issues im fed up.

Apple menu -> System preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse should give you controls over the mouse. If not, either Steer Mouse or USB Overdrive might give you better control.

  • Can no longer "right click" after installing 10.6.7

Ever since I updated my macbook with 10.6.7 I am no longer able to "right click" with my two fingers and thumb. HELP!

OK, in that case please enable the guest account, log into it, and see whether you can set the same trackpad preference there. If you can, then log out of the guest account, go back to your account, open a Terminal window, and copy or drag the following text into the window (don't type it yourself):rm Library/Preferences/{,ByHost/}.GlobalPreferences.*plistPress the Return key. Then log out and log back in, and reset your trackpad preferences.

  • In Facebook only(not in Word) , when I type a message the mouse cannot be right clicked

There are 4 accounts in our home computer. I upgraded to FF3.6.13. Two of the 4 accounts worked perfectly. The third account wouldn't connect to FF (said something abt PROXY settings but I was able to correct this thru your forum). The 4th account belongs to my cranky husband who is on Facebook all the time. He has spelling and grammar issues so he right-clicks the mouse all the time. Plus he need to upload pictures. Help!!! I used System Restore to get back to the earlier version of FF... but lost all internet connection so I installed FF again..

    Thanks!  I found this:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    I can't find this, however:  User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto.
Do I need to delete both to make this fix work?  Obviously, I have no idea what they do.  >:-)

  • Connected Apple devices - can no longer right click to show info

I have iTunes 12.0.1.26 installed, but now find that you are no longer able to right click on any connected Apple device and look at the details of that device, such as space used, software version, or look at the device settings for syncing Calendars and Emails etc. Why have these options been removed? If I right-click on my iPhone, the only options I get are Play, Shuffle, Eject, Reset Warnings. You actually cannot click on the device itself to reveal this information, all you get is the expansion arrow to the left and the sub-menus underneath, such as Music, Films etc.
Not all of my devices are on the latest software version, particularly my iPhone, as I cannot fit it on!

View > Show Sidebar or Ctrl+S. Your device should be on the left like iTunes 10. Do the results change?

  • HELP! Both mouse buttons are Right-Click!

Hi. So I just installed USB Overdrive on my 10.6.1 iMac 2.66, and one of the buttons was conflicting; I thought it might be an issue with Apple's official mouse & keyboard prefs. So I went in, and I accidentally switched the right click/left click, and now I cannot click on ANYTHING because both buttons are right-click. I tried restarting in the hopes that USB Overdrive would override the system prefs, but no dice. Could someone help? Is there any way I can manipulate system prefs without the use of clicking? Thanks!

Yes, of course. The link was only meant as a reference to get in TM under the DVD (where the mouse should work correctly). The OP should only restore the folder mentioned.
you can not restore just one folder using TM restore utility on the DVD. you can only restore the whole system. this might be the easiest in this case. otherwise one can try logging in as root. this should be possible since AFAIK, USB overdrive mouse settings are user specific. then one can try restoring just what's needed from the main user home directory.

  • Bluetooth Mighty Mouse Problems - NO RIGHT CLICK.

i tried dozens of times... i can't use the right click. it acts as a primary button even though i set it to secondary...
is there another way of setting it so that it is secondary that i didn't do so that it would cause such a phenomenon?
    I NEED HELP. please.

    Alex,
Do a search of this forum for "mighty mouse right button" or "mighty mouse secondary button." There are a number of problems it may be. The first thing to be sure is that you aren't touching the left button at all while you try to right click. The MM works via sensing whether a finger is on the right or left side of the mouse, and if you are touching the left button even slightly it will register as a primary click rather than a secondary.
Second, there are also issues that have been reported with the BT MM losing the ability to sense that primary / secondary difference after some period of time. Replacing the mouse (sometimes needing to go through a few replacements) does seem to eventually fix that.
If it doesn't seem to be an issue with contact on the sensor, I'd suggest returning the mouse and requesting a new one.

  • After installing Lion, mouse up and down scrolling does not work

After installing Lion, scrolling with an Apple mouse up and down does not work. Horizontal scrolling does work.

Hi guys. First, check the scroll outside of Firefox. Is it working?
    Second,
    '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web link}
    While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences'''<Enter> in the address bar
    Select '''Advanced > General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
    Then restart.

  • Magic Mouse won't right click on files, but works fine otherwise. 10.6.8

My Magic mouse just suddenly seemd to stop right clicking on files. I can right click on blank sapces in finder or on the desktop and it gives me the usual drop down menu but as soon as I try and right click or ctrl+click on a file there's just nothing. Can't seem to find any similar problems on google. Any ideas?

Hi, yes. The right click would work at start-up until I click on 'always allow' for permissions for google drive, then it dissappears
Unfortunately I found no other workaround other than to switch to the other views (although I strongly dislike working in the other views). But I just use Drive in my internet browser when I do use it, so it's okay for me to uninstall it. Maybe it's something to contact google about so they can fix it on there side.
