Installed LR4 on a new Drive in old computer. Imported old cat, but no history, presets. sigh.

Installed LR4 on a clean new HD / OS (Win7 Pro) computer, imported 90k + images from a 4 disk JBOD using a Library copied from the old C Drive, which was placed in My Pictures.
Now I have no history (DNG) or any User (develop or import) Presets, plus, my keywords are scrambled.
I copied the entire Library onto the new HD, pointed the import at the LR 4 Catalog-4 because it looked to be the most recent (there are others).
All images are there, with most recent adjustments showing, but no User Presets in Develop or Import. Plus, I use Reick's Controlled Vocabulary, and it's all scrambled up.
I could start again from scratch, but can't find clear instructions on how to do so.
Any advice? I have the old C drive and can access it from a HD dock.
Tom Meyer

Latest permutation... I got another computer. (reposting as a new topic, please go there to leave any comments)
Did fine with matching Library and all the files that are on externals, matched up  fine with ratings and flags intact, collections are good... but the develop User Presets! NOTHING!... and even when I go to the Develop User Presets (on the old computer) in App Data (I'm Win 7 Pro), there is only ONE user preset there, when in the active Develop Module (v4.5), I see and can use 26 different user presets that I REALLY want to keep.
What is the problem here? Why is this so convoluted and difficult? Where are my d___n presets? sigh.

  • Transfer files from old computer, use old hard drive?

I've just purchased new HP Pavilion p6-2120 Desktop.  I need to transfer files, programs, etc from my 6 year old Dell desktop.  I realize I can use Windows 7 transfer program with flash drive, transfer cable or external hard drive to move the files.
As another transfer method, can I take the old hard drive from the Dell desktop & install it in the new HP Pavilion?  Is the old hard drive (80GB serialATA, 7200rpm, DIM2,XPS2) compatible with the new HP where it will even work?
Since I'm not transfering that much is it best to just purchase a  Windows 7 transfer cable?

    mikesimms,
Your theory is correct. If you want all the settings, email, documents, photo's, music, and other data files, use either the Windows Easy Transfer program. It will accept an external device or use the transfer cable.
If you want only the documents, photo's, music, and other data files then you could add the XP drive to the system (temporarily use the p6-2120's DVD drive cabling). You can copy files to the new folders.

Adding to what Pat has mentioned, I can also see that you have the serial number for both Mac & Windows. I hope you are using the correct key for the platform where in you are installing the product as that could be the only reason. Please check the keys once again and use the correct one and that should solve the concern.

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.

Sorry Mark, you are out of luck as it does not do that - it works the same as L8. The way I would achieve that with more accuracy and control would be to route all the tracks you want to fade to a Bus then use volume automation on the bus. To do this you will need to add a standard audio track, then re-assign it using (Control Click on the track header) to the Bus track. You can then automate volume/plugins etc on the Bus track.

just recently my iphone is not syncing calendar to my macbook.  It has worked all along until about a week ago.  It does transfer new items from the computer to the iphone but not from the iphone to the computer.

Plug you iPhone into your computer, select the iPhone, select the photos tab. Now check (not uncheck) the sync photos from... Select the folder where the photo came from, click apply then sync, now uncheck the sync photos box, click apply, it will ask you if you want to remove the photos click remove, it will not delete other photos exept the ones in the folder that was synced. Then click sync and the photos will be removed

  • ITunes installed on a new drive with music on an old drive: how to keep the music data?

I had iTunes installed on my old HDD with all my music on it. It was the drive C:\
I just installed a new SSD (now the C:\ drive) in my computer. I also installed iTunes on it. I want to leave my music on my old HDD (now the G:\ drive). I can scan with iTunes for my music on my old G:\ drive, but that means I won't have the star ratings nor the play count...
I tried to copy and paste the iTunes Library.xml from my old G:\ to my new C:\. When I opened iTunes, it had all my music and the data, but I had to locate manually every single song (in a 7000+ songs library, this is a bit of a problem).
Is there a way to edit the iTunes_library.xml file to change the path of every song in it (from C:\ to G:\) since this seems to be the issue? Or how could I keep my music on my G:\ drive and itunes on my C:\ drive while keeping my music data?
    Thank you!

    Hello papapavvv,
Thank you for providing so much information about what is going on.  It sounds like you have your iTunes Library on your G:\ drive, but it sounds like iTunes is not opening iTunes Library.itl file on the external drive.  Follow these steps to point iTunes to your G:\ drive:
Steps to create or choose a different iTunes Library file
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you are using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu and choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
You should see the following screen:
    Additional information
If you do not see the screen above, then you did not hold the correct key at the correct time. You may want to try again. Note that if you pinned iTunes to the Start menu programs, and open it that way, it may not work.
Once you select "Choose Library," you will need to navigate to the iTunes Library.itl file on your new external drive.

  • How can I install OS 10.9.4 on a new drive & delete it from my old drive?

I just got an SSD and would like to have it be the drive that runs my system (10.9.4) software. I'm not sure how to install the system software on that drive and get it off the regular drive.
Can anyone point me to instructions for doing that or tell me how?
    Thanks!

How to replace or upgrade a drive in a laptop
Step One: Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Recovery HD. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Step Two: Remove the old drive and install the new drive.  Place the old drive in an external USB enclosure.  You can buy one at OWC who is also a good vendor for drives.
Step Three: Boot from the external drive.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears.  Select the icon for the external drive then click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Step Four: New Hard Drive Preparation
      1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      2. After DU loads select your new hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of
the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive
is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  Otherwise, click on the
Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from
the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended
(Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to
GUID  then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and
wait until the process has completed.
      4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the
drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main
          window.
      5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the
Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to
          return to the Erase window.
      6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several
hours depending upon the drive size.
Step Five: Clone the old drive to the new drive
    Boot Using Command+R keys:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
"COMMAND" and the "R" keys together.
      3. Release the keys when the Utilities Menu appears.
      1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
      5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Destination entry field.
      6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the
          Source entry field.
      7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the new internal drive. Source means the old external drive.
Step Six: Open the Startup Disk preferences and select the new internal volume.  Click on the Restart button.  You should boot from the new drive.  Eject the external drive and disconnect it from the computer.

  • Old HHD failed, how can I install an OSx onto new drive?

My old stock HDD failed, and I had to replace it. I have time machine on an external hard drive, and am using it to communicate here. However, when I try to install an OSx (Mountain Lion) onto my new drive, it says: "Cannot install OS. Contact AppeCare." I used disk utility to make sure it says Mac OS Extended (Journaled). What can I do?

Try this:  Boot the MBP with the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys.  The display should result in a picture with a revolving globe.  If you follow the directions, this will connect you to the Apple servers.  You then will be able to install the original OSX that came with the MBP (Lion).  Do not forget to format the HDD in Disk Utility>Erase (to Mac OS Extended (Jourrnaled)) before installing the OSX.
If you had Mt. Lion on that MBP, it should be in your App Store account.  You may download it from there.
You will need a solid Internet connection.
    Ciao.

  • Can't Install Snow Leopard on new drive

I'm having a relatively serious problem with upgrading my hardware. I have a Mac Pro tower with an empty HD slot into which I installed a new drive which mounts properly.
My plan was to simply move everything from the old hard drive to the new one, using Disk Utility's "Restore" function.
That seemed to work fine, but when I restarted and attempted to switch startup disks, selecting the new drive caused an immediate kernel panic (the grey screen saying "You need to restart your computer") which was preceeded momentarily by some very strange dos-like text in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
So after several attempts, I gave up and tried to simply install snow-leopard on the new drive. That never even got started. While the snow leopard installer would happily install the OS on any of my external drives that had enough free space, the new drive (despite the fact that it was mounted on the system) would not even show up in the list of drives to select in the Snow Leopard installer.
I checked the formatting of the drive, and it seems to be the same as both my current startup disk, and the external drive that the OS could be installed on.
How can I move my entire system to this new drive without causing instant kernel panics? Thanks in advance for any help!
    Cheers,
    Ari

Interesting. Yes, I think that is what macjack had in mind. However, after doing what macjack said, your drive would be erased Mac OS X extended (journaled), and, after shutting down disk utility, you could just continue the install you would have started. At the end of the install, you could restore your files, data, settings, and apps from your other drive. The choice, of course is yours. If I were doing it, I would perfer the first alternative.

  • Installing OS X on New HD without Restoring from an Old HD

    Greetings.
    I have a Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012 with Intel Core i7 2.9gHz.
I am replacing my actual HD for security reasons, and I want to have its data delete. So I do not want to recover it from a new install.
My Macbook did not come with a Installation DVD.
So now thats is my problem. I bought this "New HD": http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Western%20Digital/WD7500BPKX/
And I want to install it from the beggining, without copying any data/files from my "Old HD".
I want it all new. How can I do that without the Installation DVD?
I am looking forward to hear help.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards to all of you friends!

If you want to stay with OS X Mavericks, BobRz's suggestion is a good way to go. However, if you don't have an external drive enclosure I would suggest you back up your existing HDD with Time Machine and an external drive or use Disk Utility Restore to clone both your Macintosh HD and its Recovery HD to an external drive.
You can also install your new drive then restart holding the Command+Option+R keys to start Internet Recovery until you see a spinning globe. This will load Apple's Recovery HD and allow you to use Disk Utility to initialize your new drive then reinstall the version of OS X that came preinstalled. After Setup, you can launch the App Store and download/install OS X Mavericks.

  • How do I install bootcamp on the new drive that I installed with the dvd drive adapter

Hello, I have a macbook pro mid 2012 13 inch, I have just earned some money, enough to buy a SSD, and I happily went to the store and bought a samsung evo 840 120gb SSD. My plan was to clean install windows 8.1 on the SSD, I already had bootcamp on the 500GB HDD with windows 8 that came with the mac, so I backed up the important files from the windows partition. I deleted the partition, and restored it to the mac's partition (which I was going to partition again after the windows installation is complete for the storage for my windows partition) I made a installation usb with the iso I have made with bootcamp assistant, and waited. After that was done I restarted my computer holding the option key, then I booted into the EFI boot partition, and went through the process, entered the serial key, and agreed the thing, and then  when I did the format it said it couldn't do it, so I took it out put it in an external hard-drive case, then I plugged it into my windows 8 laptop, then I opened command prompt, then I typed "diskpart", then after the administrator thing popped up, I clicked yes, then in the diskpart prompt, I typed in "list disk", and my SSD was disk 1, so I did "select disk 1" then I typed "clean" Then I went into the drive manager, then a thing popped up saying which one would I choose between MBR or GPT so I selected GPT, then made a new NTFS partition on the SSD, then took it out, then I popped it back in then went through the installation, until the actual installing part where after copying files is done, this pops up "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code 0x8007045D" So I downloaded a torrent because I had thought that this was corrupted, and downloaded a torrent from a website, and downloaded the iso, and I tried and the same error, again and again of taking out the drive from my computer to format it and putting it back in again (since there was some files made on the SSD) so I had decided that I would download a windows 8 torrent, then I did then it couldn't even start, so I want to install windows 8.1 on my macbook pro, on a separate drive in the the DVD cage (not external, internal), would there be any way to do it, please help!

  • Photoshop Elements 12 question....moving photos to new drive....because old drive full.

I have a external hard drive that is almost full......what is the best way to get photos moved from this drive .....to a new and larger external hard drive?

    IceJim32 a écrit:
I would  like to move my entire catalogue from one external drive (that is almost full) to a new external drive with more room.  I have several drives with back ups of all photos.....so are you saying Move it.........using the Move from the drop down menus and move it from the old to the new drive.....and not restore it from a back up drive to the new drive?
The backup/restore process moves not only the picture files library, but also the catalog.
That's good especially if you want to share catalog and librarty with another computer.
If you prefer the default location for catalogs on your desktop, no problem. Simply use the catalog manager to move the catalog.
The drag and drop solution works:
Organizer: Moving folder trees or branches - Elements Village
(Sorry, I gave a wrong link in my previous post ...)
It's more flexible and reasonably safe. It looks faster, but if you want to be safe and do a backup first,  you'll gain nothing.
The problem with moving folders is the same than when you move folder trees from the explorer: be sure to move in an empty master folder to avoid folder names collisions.
If you want the catalog folder in the same external drive as the moved library, be sure to have the catalog folder outside of your library tree.
