Installed OBIEE on laptop without loopback adapter

Hello there
I have installed OBIEE 11.1.1.5 on my personal laptop which was on DHCP network and connected to Wi-Fi. However prior to installation i did not install & configure the loopback adapter. Now when i try to go out of my Wi-Fi network and its not on any network hence looses the IP address, the server fails to start correctly and throws following error 'could not get secure socket for host and port 9501'. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

According to the following note, your installation will not proceed without the loopback for DHCP:
"If you attempt to install on a Windows machine that is using DHCP, does not have a primary DNS suffix, and does not have a loopback adapter configured, then the Oracle BI installer will stop at the screen prompting for the Administrator user details. This appears as a red cross in the tree on the left hand side of the installer. This issue is caused by the installer not being able to resolve the IP address to a hostname.The workaround is to configure a loopback adapter or primary DNS suffix"
Have you tried to set up the loopback and also the etc/hosts file and re-install?

Click 'Software and Drivers' then select your version of Windows then choose "Product Installation Software" then "HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers"

Installing itunes onto laptop without internet conection

i can't seem to be able to do this...was trying to copy it onto a disc, but couldn't. Any ideas? thanks

I just googled itunes 2.0 and found a 2.04 download suitable for 9.0.4 or better OS 9.2 reccomended.

Can you dowlnoad it to one computer and then make a disk image/cd to take to the other computer for your mom? Seems less risky than getting it from another computer. I've done that before and it's really time consuming and hit or miss.

I have installed Oracle 10 G using Loopback adapter giving it 10.10.10.10 local IP. now i am try to access the same oracle service from another machine on the same network. using "jdbc:oracle:thin:@168.110.111.222:1521:ORCL", not able to access. though when keep the same IP in tnsnames.ora , tnsping for define TNS entry responds fine.

you installed oracle 10g uisng the loopback adapter... it means that ip can be used only on that computer... if u want to connect to the oracle 10g from a remote computer through the lan....
go the network properties (where u can see all the list of netwok adapters on the systems).... you will see the loop back adapter... select it and then select the other adapter which is connected to the lan (i mean the network adapter that this computer uses to communicate with the remote computer that you are using)... then select both of these adapter and the right click and then click the bridge connections... now.. both the networks will be able to connect... after bridging the connection try using ping whether u are able to get a reply... remember ping will be blocked by the windows firewall so disable the firewall in both the computer if u dont get a reply...

Installing a Loopback adapter without a Domain Name

Im trying to install the microsoft loopback adapter for the oracle 10g database. In one of the steps I was supposed to configure the "hosts" file within the driver directory of the windows folder.
Below is the precise directions... I dont have a domain name, I just have a internet service that gives me a dynamic IP address... what do I do?
Add a line to the SYSTEM_DRIVE:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file with the following format, after the localhost line:
IP_address hostname.domainname hostname
where:
IP_address is the non-routable IP address you entered in step 16.
hostname is the name of the computer.
domainname is the name of the domain.
For example:
10.10.10.10 mycomputer.mydomain.com mycomputer

Make one up.

The domain name in the /etc/hosts is optional.
Since you use /etc/hosts, you are not using a DNS server for that specific interpretation. Therefore you can use whatever you want. I'd use something like 'glomph.tst' just so I can have thje joy of typing that in the browser URL box.

Loopback adapter not working - can't install Oracle.

I'm attempting to install 10g on a Win XP box that is not connected to a network. Installation instructions dictate to install the MS loopback adapter before database installation. I installed it, but I can't get the loopback adapter to work. It can't find itself with ping and the 10g software won't install without it.
I'm up for a big job using Oracle and I want to upgrade my skills before I interview. This is very important to me. This may sound a bit corny, but I need to pay for a few medical bills and this job has enough of a pay raise to cover my expenses.
I don't like my current job and I love working with Oracle. Can someone please help me?

Oracle has a listener component that listens on the network for requests coming to a specific machine for a specific database service. It loads that machine name at install time.
The database service locks the machine's name and attempts to register the service to the listener.
If later your machine name or IP changes because the DHCP lease has been renewed under a different name, the database will attempt to register with a listener osomewhere else ... kind-a useless.
Such is the life of a server - for security and performance, things tend to be statically defined, for example in the ...\etc\hosts file. But users with desktops and laptops prefer convenience to security and performance.
The almost-happy compromise is to install the loopback adapter, allowing the listener and the database server to have a static 'local' address.
You are free to create your own domain ... jim13.home will work as well as any other, allowing your database to be 'orcl.jim13.home' and you machine to be 'mycomputer.jim13.home'

The same way you did the first time. Download the trial version, install it, activate it with the serial number that you have now. The license entitles you to two installations, but for your own personal use.
