Installed photoshop but I can't download it because it won't accept my serial number??

This is driving me insane, it's taken days just to verify, forever to load and install but now it's telling me that to download Photoshop elements/ premiere elements 12 (student edition) I need a serial number, I have one.. but it won't accept it because it has letters in it ? I have a mac if that's of any help..
Should I be looking for a new serial number or what? I don't understand.

Serial numbers do not have letters in them. What you are using might be a redemption code, which if you have already used it, it will no lonmger work, and is not what you enter for a serial number request. If you previously had this software installed and registered it then your serial number should be available thru your Adobe account online.

I've been using Itunes for years with little problem and when one develops, it is quickly resolved. With that one, I'd try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file, downloaded from the Apple Website:

If it is the first CS version then you will need to check out the following. I believe it applies to CS as well even though it specifies CS2....

There are two steps when entering a serial number:
When you enter it in the 24-digit field, you should see a green checkmark. If you see a red x, you may have mis-typed the number, as Ben pointed out, it could be for a suite instead of a standalone product.
If it takes the number and installs, then activation is the next step. If it fails to activate, you may have exceeded your activations or the number might have been retired.
In that case, contact Customer Care with proof of purchase.

I had to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop elements 6 to my Windows 7 computer because the brushes were glitching on me, and now it won't accept my serial number to register it to my computer. You do need the dashes.
Also double check that O & 0, I & 1 are not being confused.
The serial no. pretty much follows a three numbers then three letters approach.
