Installed software and lost my CD driver repeatedly !!@@

I recently purchased the 60 GB ipod and promptly installed it on my computer which meets all specification requirements. After the installation was complete a notice popped up informing myeI did not have any CD hardware - well I did before the installation. Sure enough according to explorer my CD drive is no longer present. I installed the software again on another computer and the same thing happened. Has anyone else had this issue. I would like to actual use my new toy but am getting tired on reinstaller drivers!!HELP!

  • Installing software to a firewire portable drive

    Hello all -
has anyone ever installed software onto a portable hard drive? I have run out of hard disk space on my macbook pro and i need to install final cut and the adobe photoshop suite. If anyone has been successful, please let me know of any problems/hickups that you have encountered.
    thanks in advance!

I don't see what "latency" issues there would be that would be any different on another hard drive. An external FW800 drive is not noticeably slower than the internal hard drive. If you aren't happy with the installation on an external drive you can always install it on the internal drive.

  • Updated 2.2 Iphone Software and lost all contact information! HELP!!

I have the old 8G Iphone and updated the new 2.2 Iphone software and lost all my contact information, video, pics, etc. I tried to hit restore and it did not bring anything back. Does Itunes save info as a back up? HELP!!
    Anthony

In regards to contact info, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer.
With XP, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007, or with the address book used by Outlook Express, which I believe is named Windows Contacts.
Photos captured by your iPhone should be imported by your computer, as with any other digital camera.
Music and video transferred to your iPhone should remain in your iTunes library on your computer, and the same for photos that were transferred to your iPhone from your computer.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup of your iPhone, which is updated if needed as the very first step during the sync process - if any of the data included with your iPhone's backup has changed since the last sync.
The backup stores data such as most iPhone settings, email account settings, SMS messages, notes created with the Notes application, recent calls, call favorites, contact info, and photos that were captured by your iPhone, but it isn't a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup only for the last two. As already provided, contact info is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer, and photos captured by your iPhone should be imported by your computer - as with any other digital camera.
You updated to 2.2 from which firmware version, and did you sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before installing firmware update 2.2 to update your iPhone's backup if needed?
You can try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. This will completely erase your iPhone followed by re-installing the current firmware version, which is 2.2. After 2.2 is re-installed, you will be prompted to restore your iPhone from your iPhone's backup, which is the default selection. After your iPhone is restored from your iPhone's backup, this must be followed by a sync with iTunes to re-transfer your selected iTunes content from your computer to your iPhone along with any photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone.
If your contact information and photos that were captured by your iPhone are not restored from your iPhone's backup and you didn't sync contact information with a supported application on your computer and you didn't import the photos that were captured by your iPhone, this data will be lost.

I had quicktime pro, I upgraded to snow leapoard and installed iLife and lost quicktime pro. How do I get it back.  I tried re installing quicktime but it will not let me??

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)

I am trying to install software and am getting the following prompt.
"Installation Failed, the installer cant create the folder "var/folders/sq/2fzf3s_d2bzb21159nbwkb2r0000gn/T//install.3732dq0ogT.
    How do I repair this

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How do I install lion and format the hard drive?

How do I install lion and format the hard drive, as though this was a new mac.

If your Mac is a 2011 model and originally came with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple then you can use the Internet Recovery HD system to Wipe/Erase the Complete drive and Re-Install Lion.
If it is an older model, even and early 2011 model, that did NOT come with Lion Pre-Installed by Apple you can not sell or give it away with Lion installed on it. You have to install the original version of OS X on it.

  • TS2776 Updated iPhone software and lost all my contacts. Previous updates worked fine. Phone backed up, installed software and the music, apps etc, but no contacts.  Have tried several times but no data at all. Any ideas?

Updated my iPhone with latest software and all my phone contacts have vanished.  Phone backed up as normal, then installed software then re-installed music, apps etc, but no contacts.
Have updated software before with no issues.  Have tried using tips from help page with no change - just a blank contact list.
    Any ideas?

    SimonPG63 wrote:
Sync via PC - Thought I'd backed up as it said it was backing up the phone.  Having searched through here I see that the contacts aren't automatically saved!  Why is that when everything else is?
Contacts are made to be synched to your computer or a cloud service.  There is therefore no NEED to include them in your backup.  Same reason iTunes media is not part of the backup.  It's already on the computer.

Seems I've lost everything - Supposed to back up via Outlook address book I read - So why isn't that made obvious....?
Had you read the User Guide before using your phone, it would have been obvious.
Your data loss here is clearly user error and you have no one to blame but yourself.  The User Guide CLEARLY outlines the way your phone should be used to minimize data loss.
Sorry, but it's time to put on your big boy pants and accept responsibility for your inactions.

  • Installing software to a second hard drive?

I am unable to install software on my second interal hard drive. There is a red exclamation point on the picture of the drive when I try to install something there. Is there something that I have to do first?
I have installed the drive physically and run the Disk Utility application to choose which filing system/structure/format to use. I went with a GUID partition table.
I ultimately want to install Parallels Desktop and Windows on part of my second drive but since I cannot install any software (Even MS Office) I am having difficulty. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Most software installers that do not provide a choice of install location need to install the software in the Applications folder on the startup volume. After installation you can move the application to another location, although it's possible the application may no longer function properly (only really true for badly written software.)
If you pay close attention to the various stages of the installer some will provide an option to change the install location before you click on the Install button.
MS Office doesn't require an installer. All you need do is drag the Office 2004 folder to your hard drive.
In addition to using the GUID partition scheme the format type must also be set to Mac OS Extended.

  • Install software on a different hard drive

I have multiple external drives. How can I set them up so I can install applications on them? Every time I install software it loads on the built in hard drive.

Besides everything Steve359 had to say, it is usually the media that the application works with that takes up the large amount of disk space. So what I do is keep my applications on the system disk in the Applications folder and the have a secondary drive that I call Projects where I keep my media files.

  • Installing windows and booting from external drive

I just got a Seagate 250gb external drive. I only have cords to connect it to my I-mac with usb cords from its dock but the drive itself has a firewire port. What i want to do is install windows xp onto the seagate drive so the drive can stay Windows formatted and my mac drive can stay mac formatted so both OS's will run at peak efficiency. The only reason i want to be able to boot up from the drive is so i can use my I-macs hardware but be able to play my PC games in its windows OS.
    How do i accomplish this?

Assuming it's an Intel iMac since you're installing Windows®, Intel Macs can boot off of USB, but...
USB2 is slow compared to Firewire/400 even, about 1/2 to 2/3rds the spedd, so FW would be better.
    How to format your disks...
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
Open Disk Utility, format the external MacOS Extended Journalled, and don't forget the GUID partitioning at the bottom of that link.
    Then...
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

Or the most expensive one & my favorite, Tri-Backup...
    http://www.tri-edre.com/english/tribackup.html
Clone your internal to the External.
Reboot and hold the Option Key down at bootup & select the external drive to boot from, test it all out.
