Installed Theme, Now Finder Crashes!
So I ignorantly installed a theme that is not compatible with Snow Leopard. Of course, the uninstaller that came in the zip file also does not work.
Every program is crashing when I try to use keyboard shortcuts, or click on the menu bar. The menu bar does not work at all, and once I click it it crashes and restarts. Right-clicking does not work either, it causes the program to crash too.
Please, any help is greatly appreciated!! My mac is almost not usable!
Thanks!
Borrow a Snow Leopard DVD and restore your system from the most recent Time Machine backup that was made just before the problem started.
Then when you get home, make a copy of the DVD to keep with you. It's quite easy. You'll need a dual layer DVD burner.
If you don't have a backup, you're probably out of luck. Unless you want to try to dig into the package file for this theme, figure out exactly what files it replaced or otherwise mangled, and copy them from a working Mac.

Good morning. First of all, sorry for my english, i'm spanish.
Today I've tried to open Pages to write a document, and the App would not open. When I click the icon, the App Store opens instead and says if i want to purchase the app. I've tried to say yes, because i thought this may be an update, but when i click yes, it says its unable to do anything.
So, i've tried with keynote and the behaviour was the same. Click on the icon and the app store opens with the same message. Numbers works fine. I'm on Mavericks, so nothing to do with Yosemite.
I've uninstalled Pages and Keynote because i thought that with the update from the other day, these two apps my have been corrputed, and i was going to install them again, but my surprise is that when I look for Pages, instead of letting me install it, it appears that i have to pay 17,99€ when i always had it for free!!
I've got a Macbook Pro 13" Retina late 2013 for a few months, and this is my first issue. Whan can i do? I Had these apps for free, and i don't want to expend so much money in two apps.
I really need help. Thank you.Perform the following, stopping with the first one which works:
1. Open the Mac App Store's Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept them into your Apple ID, do so.
2. Move them out of the Applications folder(they may need to be put into the Trash temporarily), and then see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If you're asked to buy them, see #3.
3. Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
4. Buy them.

Safari Not installing and now is crashing
So i tried this latest update, it wouldn't install and I get this message:
Install Failed the source media you are installing from is damaged. try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement.
but i downloaded it from apple, so could the file be damaged? I wouldn't think so.
And now safari is crashing as soon as I open it providing the following report:

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?I believe I was updating from the previous version, I keep things up to date. The current version according to info is 3.2.1 , but that is the version i tried to update to and it said it failed.
I tried both the apple software update and downloading it and the same thing happened both times. It gave me the error message.
The log i gave was from trying to open safari after the update failed. I simply clicked on the dock icon to open it, it completely failed to open, and gave me the error report.
It does the same thing when opening from finder.
Anything else? -

Cheers, Tom -
Installed E3000 now system crashes when online
Soon after installing the E3000 I began to experience frequent system crashes when online. Installation seemed to progress without any issues. PC, Windows XP Pro SP3, is wired though router, also able to access net with netbook, Windows 7 Starter, without issues. After several crashed I pulled up the event log and here is what I found. Tried to use Linksys online chat for assistance but they said the problem was with my computer and that I needed to contact my vendor. Since I built this pc I'm on my own and would appreciate any guidance on how to serolve this.
Thank you for your time.

Installed Rosetta now Finder repeatably becomes unresponsive
Last night I migrated applications from my G5 iMac to my new Macbook Pro. Once this was complete I tried to fire up Photoshop I got the notice that I need to install Rosetta which I did.
Now I am having 2 problems:
1.) When I try and fire up Photoshop it bounces a couple times and then unexpectedly quits.
2.) When ever I try and navigate the applications folder Finders CPU usage spikes and becomes unresponsive requiring a relaunch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Peruse Best Practices and Setup new Mac. Then, consider starting over, erasing the HD, reinstalling, and remigrating.

Please help. I have lost/didn't take note of my serial numbers when I installed CS6 and Lightroom the first time. I have to re-install them now but only have disc and product number. Thank you.
The best for this would be Contact Customer Care Chat or phone.
While we as volunteers handle technical questions, we can't make a serial number work.
I hope you have registered your software with Adobe, it should make this easier.

Finder crashes when accessing my external hard drive
I have a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB external hard drive where I keep a lot of my extra data. Very recently, I can't pin-point exactly when, the hard drive has been causing Finder to crash, most of the time irreparably -- and by irreparably I mean it will crash and I'll try to relaunch it but it won't work, in fact it won't actually relaunch unless I then click the Finder icon (which had no dot under it), after which it will immediately launch into an "Application Not Responding" state.
The reason I believe it is the external hard drive is because I have two computers, both of which have the same problems when doing stuff with the hard drive, and neither have problems when the hard drive isn't plugged in.
Some weird things: I have been accessing an excel document on the drive and have been saving the document this entire time -- before I began to think that it was the hard drive causing these problems. It seems as though I could open that document and save it without any apparent problems. Same sort of thing when I used Ableton Live recently. I could access my sample library on the external drive through Live's browser and it would seem to work just fine. However, with Live, when I tried to save a project it would immediately crash Live (presumably because Live is trying to save via Finder or something?). I can't remember if Finder would subsequently crash or not, but I remember having terrible issues with Finder crashing around the times I would be using Live and trying to save.
I tried doing a Repair Disk on the external through Disk Utility, but after it was showing only the stripey progress bar down at the bottom and only saying "Verifying and Reparing Disk," for a little while I stopped it and tried to quit Disk Utility, only to have Disk Utility crash and now Finder crash as well.
Another couple of things to note. Finder is not able to copy something to or from the external, or move something from the external to the trash. It will be stuck at 0 percent progress and if I press the x it will say "Stopping" and never go away. However when I do that and then just unplug my external I immediatley get a "Disk removed improperly" dialog and Finder will work again right away.Interesting. Is the goflex a usb-attached enclosure?
Remove maudio, specifically that com.maudio.usb.fasttrackpro.driver. If you just move that out of /System/Library/Extensions (or if there is an installer) you need to reboot after adding/deleting kext's.
If no software was installed by you then somehow that external got that com.seagate.SeagateStorageGauge.plist installed in your /Library/LaunchAgents. If the maudio removal doesn't change anything then this segat launchagent is the next to go. -
Kernal panic after installing LR3- now after re-install,no privileges
imac
2.4 gHz
300 HDD
3G ram
I installed Lightroom 3 and in 64 bit mode it crashed the system with 'kernal panic'.
Managed to get it working in 32 bit (slowly) but was advised to re-install 10.5.8 as I was getting ACL found but not expected errors when I tried to repair permissions.
I re-installed but now find I have no administrator privileges - so can't do any updates etc;
managed to do: Installer>Utilities>reset password - but it still says password is wrong.
I also had used Time Machine to back up my system : when I tried to restore, the restore button is greyed out - I can select on various items, but that is as far as I can get.
Am at my wits end - don't see why the re-install has caused this problemIf all else fails, you can reinstall Snow Leopard using the same installer disc you used to install it originally (or your grey system discs if your Mac came with Snow Leopard installed). This will not erase your user files but you will have to update the OS & Apple-supplied apps after the installation. This isn't as painful as it sounds if you use the Software Update app immediately following the first normal restart after the installation completes. Software Update is smart enough to pick the most appropriate update(s) to get your Mac back to the latest software, including automatically picking the Combo version of the OS updater if the installed version is more than one minor version behind the latest one.
In fact, given how slow a Time Machine restore can be, if you have a fast high speed Internet connection this could take less time & effort on your part than doing the TM restore. Plus, it guarantees that you get the latest versions of everything & that they are all properly linked. -
Finder crashes on previewing anything
At first it was just mp2 files. It was hit or miss when I clicked on a m2v file. Sometimes it would crash and other times it would show the file. M2v files are assigned to compressor and I tried to change it to quicktime or VLC and it wouldn't allow me. Now finder crashes on previewing anything whether it be a .rtf file, mp3 or a quicktime file. This is extremely annoying and I would appreciate any help.
Hi Erik,
Have you tried deleting the plist for Preview?
/Users/~(Home)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist Then log out and back in or restart.

I have unlocked my iPhone 3G with Vodafone via iTunes, but now the downloaded apps crash immediately when opened. I've tried a Restore, but this didn't help. I've also tried removing all apps and re-installing them, but they still don't work. Any ideas? Thanks.
yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
go to the device summary
click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this! -
I installed the latest itunes update, 11.4.0.18. Now itunes crashes every time I try to open it.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.
You could also try working through

After installing Mavericks on an imac, Mail would not sync with my Google Apps email account. After I clicked on All Mail the program crashed and now it crashes every time I open Mail. Does anyone have an suggestions?
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

When configuring my new iPad mini retina last weekend I first ignored the questions on the installation of the free iWork apps.
Now I would like to install them but I only find the paid version in the App Store. What am I donning wrong. Or was it a missed opportunity and bad luck for me.I had exactly the same problem but my son told me I had to update to the most up to date ios first. Currently it's only got version 6.1 on it, and it didn't say there was an update available but when I click "check for updates" it started to install version 7. I believe you need version 7 installed first, then if you go to the Store, it will say the software is free to download. I'll check back once it's finished installing the update and let you know.

I have installed OS Mavericks 10.9 and now find that Mac Mail includes titles for addressees. Thus, it shows 'Dr John Brown' instead of 'John Brown'. I have had the same problem with suffixes with earlier versions and solved that by deleting all suffixes from my address book. I don't want to have to do that for titles. How can I keep the titles in my address book but have them not show for Mac Mail addressess?
I have the opposite problem, Barry ... now only the eMail address shows ... no name at all, even though I type it in!
