Installed v 3.6.24 - Mac G5, OS 10.5.8- even Google takes ENORMOUS long time: 3-5 mins. I restarted. No difference. Do I need to back-install an earlier version of Firefox, that was working great? No problem BTW with my net connectivity.

My question is the details.

  • How can i revert back to an earlier version of Firefox? I have had nothing but slow, slow loading eversince I upgraded to4.01.1. I hate this version of Firefox. I hate the toolbar, it's a horrible colour and I can hardly read it.

Ever since I upgraded my Firefox to 4.01.1, everthing loads much, much slower.......I can go make a coffee while the page loads. Sometimes, it is soooooooooo slow, that it times out and I have to start all over again. Even when I sign on and load google, sometimes it takes forever.
I also do not like the toolbar at the top. It's grey and hard to read, what is wrong with white?
Can I revert back to the earlier version of Firefox? It worked much better. I use ancestry.com a lot and they even recommend a 3.??? version of Firefox.
Anything is better, so I don't have to sit and wait and wait and wait.

Thank you, Zenos. I tried rolling back to v31.2.0, since I had not encountered problems prior to December. However, that didn't help. So I followed your valuable suggestion to revert to v24.6; that seems to have done the trick.
I would like to mark this problem as "Solved" -- the rollback seems to have worked. However, since my original post was a complex mix of things, before I do that, should I post the individual problem sets that I had noted (address fields/nicknames problems -- numbers 1-3; default font problem -- number 4; attachment reminder problem -- number 5) as separate issues which have not been solved?
Do you know if these various issues are being worked on? I'm glad to have the temporary fix of rolling back to an earlier version, but I'd like to get back on the current update schedule at some point if and when these problems have been corrected.
    Thank you again!

  • What is the latest version of Firefox that will work with Windows ME?

We were recently given an older Gateway laptop that we intend to use solely as an internet terminal. Alas, it is running Windows ME and I don't even know if it has all the specs to upgrade (and certainly not to Vista, which is the only thing we have an install disk for). It currently has Firefox 2.0.0.20, which of course contains numerous security vulnerabilities and is incompatible with most newer plugins. What is the best version of Firefox that will work with Windows ME, and is it still available for download? Thanks!

Hmm... guess this will be just an e-mail terminal, hardly anything else works cuz I can't update Flash! Thanks for your help.

  • I have a mac running osx 10.4.6. Were can I find a earlier version of firefox that will be compatable with my OS?

Firefox version 7 will not runn on my system. I need to know how I can get an earlier version for download so I will be able to use firefox as my default browser.

Does anyone have an answer? Where can I find a earlier version of Firefox that will be compatible with OS10.4.6 ?

  • I'm using an older iMac G5 (PowerPC) with Firefox and MacOs 10.5.8. I no longer am able to watch video clips because Firefox recently auto-updated to 3.6.24; is there an older version of FireFox that would work with my PowerPC, and where do I find it

I used to be able to watch video clips off a streaming website, but it's been getting more difficult and now it no longer works. I suspect that my older Power PC G5 Mac is not compatible with the newer Firefox version of 3.6.24. I suspect that if I used an older version of Firefox with my system, I could get back to watching video clips. Would this work, and if so, where can I download an earler version of Firefox that would be compatible with my Mac and MacOs 10.5.8?

You might want to consider extending the lifespan of your G5 by using a different operating system. I put [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lubuntu Lubuntu] on a G5 recently and it runs the newest Firefox just fine. Lubuntu (pronounced Loo-boon-two) is sort of an Ubuntu lite - a user-friendly version of Linux. There are many applications to choose from, and it's all free.
The PowerPC I did this on was one of the old Bondi Blue ones. Firefox had no problem running on it at all and has all plug-ins needed for video, audio, etc.. I gave it to a church and it's running fine for them.
You can download old versions of Firefox, but you'll just open yourself up to security problems if you do.
FYI: The Mac operating system is built on Linux.

  • A very important site, does not function properly anymore, how can i go back to an earlier version of firefox

Before i downloaded your firefox 8.0.1, I used firefox to 'save as' the ''Unrealized gain/loss page'' from a brokerage account, - for my ongoing historical financial records file (safari doesn't work for this site).
On the Unrealized gain/loss page, there is a '+' symbol (in front of each stock owned) that one needs to 'clic' on (turns to a -) to see the various dates (and financial data) when you purchased different lots of the same stock. (say, ''IBM''; purchased IBM shares on 21-10-'11, 100 shares, @ $147, current price @ $180, gain of $33/share, total gain $3,300 / 10-14-'11 purchased 200 IBM shares, @ $191, current price @ $180, loss of $11/share, total loss $2200 / - and so on for however many individual 'lots' one has of that particular stock. ). This information is very important to me, and now i can not 'save' it.
    - So I want to know how I 'fix' this - or - how I can go back to the earlier version, that did work.

To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.

  • After I downloaded Firefox 4, it said my system cannot run it. How do I get back to an earlier version of Firefox?

My Mac is running OSX10.4.11. Where do I go to download an earlier version of Firefox (before 4.0) that is compatible with my system?

Yeah, Firefox 4 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later. You can download Firefox 3.6 from [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html this download page].

  • I dl'd Firefox 4, was working great but, Firefox 4 is unable to work w/ Netflix. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit mode and now Firefox 4 will not open on my MacPro. I have to "Force Quit". What's the problem?

I dl'd Firefox 4 on wide release Tuesday. It was working just fine on all news sites I use. Then, I tried to use my Netflix streaming. Netflix alerted me FF4 needed to run in 32-bit mode due to its movie player plug-in. I hit the Netflix restart in 32-bit button, FF4 crashed. I've since re-dl'd FF4 and loaded it into the Apps folder on my MacPro(Mac OS 1.6.7/2.66 Quad-core/2 GB RAM/256MB GPU). It still won't open and I have to "Force Quit". Several "Reports" have been sent to Apple but, I don't think Apple is the problem. As it now stands, I can only run last version of FF on my MacPro.
I also have a MacBook(Mac OS 10.6.7/2.16 C2D/1 GB RAM/64 MB GPU) and I am able to have 2 versions of FF on that Mac. I even have the newest version labeled as Firefox4, so as to distinguish between the 2 for the purpose of using FF4 for everything but Netflix. So, what happened? What's the difference? Why won't FF4 run on my MacPro anymore?

If this were just a Netflix problem, why can I access Netflix through Internet Explorer and not through Firefox? I've been using Firefox to access Netflix for at least the past year and starting yesterday (12/6/11) Firefox doesn't seem to recognize that Netflix exists. I've tried the suggested Firefox "help" which was of no help whatsoever and may even have made life more difficult in accessing other accounts. Anyone know how to contact Netflix or Firefox by phone?

'''If you are having a specific issue with Firefox 5, please post the details, and someone on this support forum will try to help you.'''
With Mozilla's accelerated release plan, the "plan" is for 5.0 to replace 4.0.1, with no further support for 4.0.* versions.
*This will also be the case with versions 6 and 7, currently scheduled for release later this year.
*As new versions are released, support for the prior version will be dropped.
*The only exception, as of right now, is that version 3.6.x will continue to be supported for 3-4 months, as of this posting.
No significant user-interface changes occurred between Firefox 4 and Firefox 5.
95% of the Add-ons hosted at the official Add-ons website are compatible with Firefox 5.0 - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/compatibility/report.
For extensions that are hosted elsewhere, you can try using this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ - to force "incompatible" extensions to be enabled in 5.0 and see for yourself if they work. Then there's a "compatibility" button in the Add-ons Manager tab to report if each extension is working properly or to tell the developer of each extension what problems you're having.

  • Firefox version 4 does not work with Mac OS 10.4.11. Is there a fix for this? Alternatively, how do I download an older version of Firefox that will work?

I have a an older IMAC as a second computer. I replaced an older version of Firefox with the new update. I had to do this because Firefox gave me a message that the older version would no longer work. The new version 4.0 will not open even after it is put in the applications folder. I get a message that says this version is not compatible with my Operating system. I don't want to change the OS at the moment.
Can anyone help? I'd like to just download an older version of Firefox if that is the only way to make this work, but I can't find an older version on the website.
    Thanks very much.

Had the same problem; would have been nice if they had told s that we need an intel processor on our older Macs! I am up and running again.

  • I use Zoom Text as I am visually impaired and it is not compatable with Firefox 4. I need to go back to the earlier version of Firefox until this is handled by Zoom Text. How do I do that? Thanks, David

I asked Zoom Text about this and this is what they had to say.
"What is the specific version of ZoomText 9.1 you are using (In ZoomText click on Help -> About ZoomText -> Version)? Unfortunately the newer are supporting HTML5, Direct2D and other new hardware acceleration technologies designed to increase the speed and performance of web browsers. These new technologies bring new challenges for accessibility programs like ZoomText. More specifically, these technologies will have crippling adverse effects on ZoomText?s xFont, tracking and screen reading features.
Therefore, at this time we are advising ZoomText users not to install or upgrade to Internet Explorer 9, as doing so will result in a loss of ZoomText functionality within Internet Explorer, and possibly a decrease in personal productivity. We do want to assure you that we are working on overcoming these problems and will provide a solution as quickly as possible.
The other web browsers like Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera we do not have support for. The Firefox 4 with ZoomText you should have decent support for but not full support for it but you do have to have the updated version of ZoomText 9.19.1 and do the following as well http://www.aisquared.com/knowledge_base/more/zoomtext_with_firefox_4_loss_of_xfont/ for Firefox 4.
You are best to use IE 8 or 7 now or Firefox 3 or you can try 4. Thanks."
I am running the latest version of Zoom Text abnd the latest version of Firefox. I have done the "fix" suggested here but it had short lived relief if any. My preferred solution is to go back to running Firefox 3 until Zoom Text works around your new software updates.
Hint: You would make a whole lot of visually impaired folks on this planet real happy if you got together with the Zoom Text people and worked this out in a lickity-split fashion.
    Thanks,
    David

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • How can I find an earlier version of iTunes that will work for my new iPod

I am writing this for my technophobe friend. He has an older iBook g3, version 10.2xx. It came installed with itunes 4. He just bought a nano iPod, which I believe requires a newer version of iTunes. he downloaded 7.6, and it will not woprk with his older 10.2 OS. Where can he find a version of iTunes that will be compatible with his older system, and still operate his iPod?
    Thank you,
    Tom

I really almost no experience with this but from casual reading I suspect he may be in a bind. 10.2 is relatively long in the tooth in the OSX world and I think the new iPods really require you have the OS to run the iTunes they want. I see posts about people upgrading to Tiger so they can run their ipods and I think that's the story.

  • How can I go back to an earlier version of Firefox I don't like 4

I just updated this morning and I don't like it because all my norton logins don't work and will not be fixed until May.
I would like to install an earlier version, how can I?
