Installed WD My Book 1TB drive software, it killed my internet access

MacBook Pro 15" 2.4 GHz with Leopard 10.5.1.
I installed the "My Book RAID Manager" software included with the WD My Book Premium Edition II 1 TB dual drive system.
Upon reboot, I can connect to my wireless router, but I can access no internet sites. This worked fine before.
I can connect via afp:// to another computer on my network, though.
when i opened terminal, i was getting the message that the following file was corrupt:
/var/db/dyld/dyldshared_cacheppc
i did some research and was able to to fix that with the command updatedyld_sharedcache -force, but my internet is not working.
any ideas how to fix this?

HELP I'm going MAD! - bundled NTI software is killing my internet connection.

Hello All, If someone could help me it would be hugely appreciated. I have a NMH410 which I have attached as a centre hub for 4 computers to attach to. I am using this product as an replacement update to an existing Freecom FSG3 400gb. the FSG is still on the Network. (waiting for file migration to mediahub).The Linksys Media Hub is connected directly to a BT Business router (ewire) hxxp://business.bt.com/broadband-and-internet/internet-access/broadband/more-about-routers.
The network hosts 4 Wireless laptops and 1 Wireless printer which can all see files on the media hub and connect via the BT router. The NTI software is perfect for each laptop being backed up on the hub and provides the perfect amount of resilience for the business (no need for RAID as it is simply backing up work from the individual PC's, so if Media Hub Fails the data is on the laptops and Vice Versa!) As a concept this is fantastic... However, As soon as the NTI software is turned on to backup any of the individual laptops the Internet is un-contactable. I have tried a simple ping test to google.co.uk and activated the software and get no packet or data loss and the connection remains?? Throughout the Media Hub is always available, so therefore I may be posting this on the wrong message board (perhaps a contact with NTI is next) Any help will be hugely appreciated, ThanksAndy

I thought network conjestion but I could understand if i was doing all laptops together but i'm doing them one at a time...
We have no backup software on the computers as this product was going to provide an automated backup solution (instead of the manual ad-hoc method as now)

Install and use Adobe Digital Editions on a computer without internet access ?

I have a pair of PCs, one of them, with Windows Vista, has never been connected to the internet since many years. It is used for word processing mostly. I didn't even bother to plug an ethernet cable inside or think about a Wifi USB key, in a way it's better that way, no useless distractions and no security threats.
I want to use that offline PC for work, and it would require to use Adobe Digital Editions on that machine. I downloaded the offline standalone installer from adobe.com without problems, however, apparently, Adobe only accepts us to use the program after we have activated it through internet access.
Does that mean there is simply no way out, and I can't use Digital Editions on my offline computer ?
Would you perhaps know a solution to this issue ?

I don't think there is a way out.
You could use it for non-DRM books without authorizing, but there are much better options (such as the free Calibre) for that anyway. http://calibre-ebook.com/
If you make a temporary internet connection, then once authorized, you should not need internet access to read books you have got elsewhere and copied to it.

I purchased a Verizon MIFI 2200 mobile hotspot with my forst generation iPad almost tow years ago so that I could have internet access with my WiFi only iPad and my iPod Touch. All in all it is pretty reliable but as varjak paw stated above...

Like my cell phone - there are locations where the MIFI doesn't play nice with the cellular networks and it may struggle to find a good signal. On the other hand, sometimes my connection zips along quite nicely. Just keep that in mind - if and when you decide to purchase a mobile hotspot.

WD SmartWare 1TB drive software won't launch

Not sure if this is the correct forum or not. I just purchased a WD My Book Essential 1TB external USB 2.0 drive to back up photos, music, etc. When I turn it on the drive mounts on my desktop (iMac G5 OS10.4.11 PPC) and the installation CD mounts. Everytime I click on the WD SmartWare icon to launch the installed I get "application WD SmartWare quit unexpectedly" The "DriveUnlock" does the same thing. I can transfer files to the hard drive and they all seem to be OK, but I don't want to take a chance and have them disappear at some point. I cannot eject the WD SmartWare install CD icon either. The drive icon will eject, but not the CD install icon. I had hoped to use the visual backup feature included with the drive, but can't seem to get anything off the CD!! Any suggestions? I would like to share this drive with my HP PC running Windows 7.

Telephone tech support at OWC, macsales.com, can help if you want to follow Kappy's great suggestion. Or, if you want to get one pretty much ready to go, and reasonably priced, have a look at these at OWC--and, unlike WD external drives, you should be able to clone and boot from any of them. OWC tech should also be able to help you set up separate partitions to use for the Mac and the PC. You want a 3.5" SATA drive.

How to install WD My Book World drive on Yosemite Mac

I am a novice Mac user and need installation instructions for Western Digital My Book World (model #WD10000H1NC-00) external drive to a Mac (Yosemite 10.10.1).
I downloaded and installed WD-Anywhere-Backup-Mac-2.5.125.zip from the WD site, but as am running the installation it asks where to backup. I have two options in the finder: shared: My Book World and My Book World-backup. Neither is accessible-- "connection failed."
Error message I elsewhere received was: problem connecting to server "mybookworld" Server may not exist or it is unavailable. Check server name or IP address. Check network connection. try again"
I also installed WD turbo installer which apparently installed two drivers: (WD1394_64_109HPDriver and WDUSB_64_109HPDRIVER) and WD Drive Manager.
WD Anywhere Backup is now located on my launchpad but when I run it I get "a new version of WD Anywhere Backup is available." But the screen never advances beyond a spinning 'busy' icon to allow me to skip or download.
I have restarted the computer several times.

Did you download the instruction manual for installation?
Consider posting in WD discussion forums for your particular model number.
You can also call their tech support dept for instructions.

Airport Extreme/MY book 1Tb drive issues!

Hi there, I just got a 1tb My book (western digital) external drive with usb 2.0, firewire 400&800 and esata. At first the drive did not show up on the Airport extreme-- so I connected it directly to my laptop- and then back to the extreme (usb 2.0) and it showed up in Time Machine. Then, when I tried to run the backup for the first time, It failed, saying that the disk is not in the right format. I can not find anywhere to reformat or erase the disk so it will work. Please help!

Connect the drive directly to your Mac. Then use Disk Utility to format the drive as Mac OS Extended (HFS+).

Installing Bootcamp - iMac w 1Tb drive and 3 partitions

Can I use one of the 'existing' partitions for the Bootcamp partition? or does Bootcamp have to be part of the startup partition?

WD My Book NAS drive, Cisco VPN router and FTP access

Hello:
I have a Western Digital My Book World Editon II NAS drive that is connected through a Cisco ASA 5500 VPN router.
This NAS drive has a service to use it as an FTP server using port 21 as default or other specific port.
I also have a XP PC in which I installed Filezilla where I am trying to access the NAS files.
Only problem is that Filezilla apparently connects to the NAS drive but it lists the directory as empty.Changing to Active mode makes no difference.
Does this sounds like a problem with the VPN configuration?
Do I have to configure some kind of port forwarding on the VPN router for port 21?
Or does the VPN router has nothing to do with this problem?

WD software is absolutely unnecessary, even counterproductive, uninstall it !!
you should have at minimum 20-30 GB free, or even 40-50 GB on a SSD.

Creative/Auzentech driver software won't recognize soundcard

Windows 10 9926 (Upgrade from previous public beta, not fresh install)
The soundcard software refuses to detect a valid Auzentech soundcard installed in my machine and thus refuses to operate/open. The drivers are installed without issue and work fine. I have tried the following to resolve the issue:
1) Repair the software/driver installation. This process involves running the programs installer and choosing the "repair" option. This process involves a reboot after the repair is complete.
2) Uninstall the drivers & software and reinstall it. This process involves a reboot after uninstalling but before re-installing.
3) Uninstall the drivers & software via Device Manager, reboot the PC and then install the drivers.
The driver software (Console Launcher) continues to refuse to operate because it can't detect a valid Auzentech soundcard even though the drivers install without issue. It was working fine before the upgrade to the January build of Windows 10.

Figured it out, neither the official drivers nor the drivers provided by Youpax will properly work. You need to use the drivers provided by Daniel_k instead.
