If you have a Mid 2010 model: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If later then see below:
Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you have an earlier model:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Unable to install Windows 7 because of missing drivers using Boot Camp

I tried this question in the lap-top section, but nobody could help.
I have an MB Pro with 13" Retina, late 2013, 250 GB SS-disk, 8 GB RAM.
I need a partition with Windows 7 Professional, and I have an ISO with Norwegian Windows 7, service pack 1 (64 bit).
I run the BootCamp assistant to partition my HDD and to generate the USB-disk with Windows and the necessary drivers.
When i try to install Windows the installer asks for a driver for the DVD-drive. I get a message that it cannot find a driver file and tells me to provide one. There is no DVD so that is correct. There is no way I can skip this part, and I must stop the intallation. I have not been able to trace down any dummy-drivers.
I have also tried to do this procedure with a USB-Superdrive attatched, but that did not help.
My problem is that I am not able to complete the Windows 7 installation. I must break it as it wil not continue until I provide the correct DVD-drivers.

    Hello everyone,
As the struggle was real, I thought I would also participate in this thread and share my testimonial with you.
For more than a week, I had been attempting to set up Windows 7 x64 on my mid-2014 MacBook Air 13", but to no avail. I was so sick of witnessing the infamous black screen, "no bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key", or the "select your language" window in the Windows 7 PE with no keyboard nor mouse alive, that I had almost given up on it all.
But that was before I came across the present thread. I diligently applied your procedure and IT WORKED LIKE MAGIC
    My specs:
    - Mid-2014 MacBook Air 13" with pre-installed Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)
    - Windows 7 x64 Home Premium ISO file
    - The most basic USB 2.0 flashdrive one can get

  • Installing Windows Xp Pro NEED HELP!!

I have a lenovo 3000 n200 0769 and it has no OS and the hdd is completely clean (it is ntfs formatted). When attempting to install windows xp pro the cd won't self boot (the drive is functioning properly as far as i know). Additionally, i get to the phoenix screen and it remains there.  if im not quick to press the lenovo care button the notebook wont respond to anything. It does give me the options of pressing esc to resume normal startup, F1 to enter bios setup, F11 to diagnose hardware or recover system (which i have tried with the cd inserted but it only takes me to a black screen) and F12 to choose a temp startup device (which also takes me to a black screen) I am able to access the bios setup once the screen turns on by pressing esc then F1 if that helps anyone in aiding my efforts but other then that i can't do anything with the notebook. Could it be something wrong with the bios?
Message Edited by Twizz08 on 08-13-2008 03:05 PM

    Hi !
On boot, press F1 just when the Lenovo logo shows. Navigate to the BIOS boot options and set the system to boot first on the CD device.
Save and exit BIOS. The system should boot on the CD.
If not check either the disk drive (faulty or not ? ) Bios passwd, try to have a USB stick (bootable with some software into it ) and try to boot from it (using F12) .
If nothing works, It may be the mainboard or something like that faulty....
I use a 0769 laptop with vista wiped out for Windows XP so it is feasible. (difficult as the disk is SATA and not IDE so you need a tweaked Win xp install CD)

  • I just installed Windows 8, but iTunes is nowhere to be found when I plug in my iPhone. What do you advise?

How do I get iTunes to open in recently-installed Windows 8? Thanks

    Howdy BooDiggly,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you freshly installed Windows 8, and now need to load the iTunes software. You can download it from this website.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
When its downloaded, install the file, and you should be good to go.

  • Installed Win7 64bit but can't install Bootcamp

    Hi all,
Just installed Windows 7 64 bit but can't get Bootcamp to install. Downloaded 3.2 (64) update but that requires 3.1. Downloaded 3.1 (64) update but that requires 3.0. 3.0 won't install from the DVD as it doesn't support the 64 bit Windows 7.
Is there a version I can download or do I have to get rid of that install and do it all again using the 32 bit version?
    Stuart

Head to (better yet, copy the contents to a folder)
    Navigate to Apple \ Drivers \ Bootcamp64.msi
control click and select Compatibility Mode and choose "Vista"
You just have to force it a little.
May also get a warning from Windows that it isn't compatible or known to cause trouble (true) but install anyway.
AppleHFS feature can be buggy and lead to Bsod.
I keep that renamed and therefore disabled, use Paragon HFS or MacDrive8 instead, commercial but at least they work better.
Apple didn't 'bless' some of us with older EFI32 (trouble booting DVD and other issues) and even mid 2008 iMac had 64-bit ROM and processor at a time when MacBook, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro all were on the "supported" list for Vista 64-bit, the iMac was not

  • Installed Windows 7 but can't find get on the Internet

    Hi there!
I am trying to help a friend install Windows 7 on his new mac book pro.
I went through the procedure of getting boot camp to do its thing and I successfully installed Windows 7 on top of boot camp. However, the problem is now that I can't get Windows 7 to go on the internet.
I didn't realize that apple no longer makes DVD disks for the new mac book pro. Therefore, I went back into boot camp and downloaded the drivers onto a USB disk using FAT format on the USB stick.
I was able to eventually get Windows 7 to read the USB disk (I had some problems before that and I had to reformat the USB disk). I looked inside the disk and saw a folder called Windows Support. In that folder were the following files and folders:
I looked all over for the drivers that would install the wi-fi or the ethernet connection. Unfortunately, there were no file(s) to be found.
I clicked on the setup.exe file. I believe that when I double clicked on the setup execution file, I was prompting me to reinstall boot camp.
Now, since boot camp and window 7 is already on the windows partition, I didn't go further on the install.
Can someone tell me what would what's going on here. The instructions for getting the drivers is a bit confusing.
    Thanks!

I tried to do a screenshot in another post and it didn't work. Could you tell me how that's done.
Also, I realize that even if I DID a screenshot, I am sure that you or someone else could tell me what YOU see or guide me as to when you do the prompts for the setup exe.
As I said before, I am not at the computer in question and am trying to get as much information as I can so that I can possibly go over to this person's house today and finish the install.
How about posting what I should see for a reference. It would be most appreciated. thanks!
Shift-Command 4 will get you a screenshot, then click the camera icon in your post and insert it.
