Installed Windows 7 on iMac. No sound.

How do I get the sound to work? Reinstall the drivers for the sound card?  Update boot camp? The instructions are not very clear on updating your version of boot camp. Do I do it on the mac side or when I boot up Windows? Thanks in advance!

iMac uses Cirrus so you need to get the audio driver - yourself.
Mine uses RealTek - and don't know why Boot Camp does 80-90% but not a word or hint.

    Installing Windows on iMac?
I finally decided  to install Win XP oniMac. Reading Boot Camp Instructions all went well until afterputting windows disk in drive I have no mouse or keyboard functions.I'm using keyboard & mouse that came with my imac,  both are plugin USB connections (keyboard plugs in USB port at rear of iMac &Mouse into keyboard USB slot) I did read in Boot Camp that a USBkeyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad  is required,so I reasoned since keyboard & supplied mouse are USB powered they would be alright, not so.Windows is prompting to push ENTER or F3 to continue, but I have no function or mouse pointer to do this.Plus I can't eject Windows disk or nothing else but hold button downon rear to shut down iMac, then if I restart iMac we go back toWindows trying to install again. How do I get outta this mess? Even if I get another USB keyboard will it function, or am I missingsomething here? Thanks for any help here.

You will have a much better chance of getting an answer if you post over in the BootCamp forum.

would like to install windows on iMac 1 TB?

    (Borrowed from Kappy)
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Install Windows on iMac with no DVD drive

I have a modified iMac.  It has a solid state drive in leui of the superdrive.   The SSD is a OWC drive.
How can I install Windows?   I have tried modifying plist files, and kexts to allow me to use my MBA's USB superdrive, with no luck.    I have also modified the bootcamp assistant to allow me to create a Windows 7 USB Installer from an ISO.   However, when I initiate the installation, the computer restarts, and I get an error "No bootable device -- insert boot disc and press any key"  I get this even though I created an installer with the BC assistant.  I've tried doing this with thumb drives and external USB drives.
Can anybody help me out with a method of getting Windows installed?  My computer is a 27" 2011 iMac.  I cannot put the DVD drive back in because not only was it broken, but also because I then wouldn't be able to install Windows on the SSD.
    Thanks.

You might have better li=uck of an answer if you post over in the Boot Camp forum where the Windows gurus hang out.

  • Install windows on iMac Late 2009 without Optical drive

Hi, i have an iMac 27 i5 11.1 where i want to install windows 7 (or 8). I already did it 2 years ago without problems, but in the mean time i formatted the drive and my optical drive stopped working so i replaced it with an ssd.
I'm trying to install windows but i don't know how without a superdrive. I tried with an external usb dvd drive and it didn't work (you can't install windows from a non apple dvd drive, it is a known problem) but it don't work, so i tried to create an usb installation key of windows with microsoft official tool and also with boot camp tool, both doesn't work (when i select them on the boot i get an apple alternated with a prohibition mark and a folder with a question mark, exactly as with the dvd drive). So i thought that maybe if i can install windows on an external drive and boot it from there i will be able to launch the install directly from windows skipping the problem, but you can't install windows on an external drive..
I'm running out of ideas, someone can help me installing windows on my imac? thanks in advance

There is your answer, now stop stressing and move on without it.
    Sure, good answers.
    Apple doesn't want to = You can't
    Apple doesn't let you = You shouldn't
Too bad i made it. So it is possible, even if you and apple said it's not.
I installed virtualbox, created a virtual machine with the full disk access, started installing windows, when the copy of the files ended and the vm was rebooting i simply closed it and rebooted my imac and finished the installation directly on the imac, everything went well...
Luckily i didn't take apple's word as a written law and i use my own brain..
If you had posted in a Virtual Machine forum, or asked if you could install Windows using other than Bootcamp Assistant then someone would have advised you to use a Virtual Machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. But you posted in the Bootcamp forum so we assumed you wanted to create and use a Bootcamp partition.
So the answers provided you, based on your questions in this Bootcamp forum were spot on and appropriate.

  • When I try to install Windows on iMac with Bootcamp I get this message,"Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I try to get Windows 7 on my iMac 21.5-inch but on the Bootcamp Assistant I get this message,"Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." Please help me and thank you.

I have that problem too.  There's many other discussion threads as well.  Either Apple doesn't realize they have a problem, or they do and simply don't care.  Either way, not good.
There is a workaround that I'm going to try next.  Go to this webpage:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Scroll down to the middle of the webpage.  Hit "Expand All".  Now, search the webpage for the Apple product name of your computer.  It should be something like "MacBook Pro, 17-inch, Early 2008".  If you're unsure what you have, open "About This Mac" (upper left corner of your screen, Apple menu), and hit "More Info".
Now that you've found your computer, read across the table, to the version of Windows that you want to install (32-bit or 64-bit).  Hopefully you'll find a "4" or "5" there.  Click on that number, to go to the download page for the drivers that you need.  If you just see an empty box there, then you're out of luck....
Hopefully there will be drivers.  Download those, unzip, and then copy to a USB stick that has been formatted for MS-DOS FAT (or FAT32).  Use Disk Utility to format your USB stick if necessary.  Now, you have the drivers you should have gotten from the Boot Camp Assistant download.  You should then be able to go back to Boot Camp Assistant and follow the instructions from there.
    Hope it works!

  • No sound on Pavillion 6700, so I installed Windows 7, still no sound

My computer came with vista, I got it a little over two years ago. About a month ago, the sound quit working. It said, no audio output device installed. I updated the conexant audio drivers and tried everything that I could, and downloaded everything from the HP website for it, but nothing worked. My brother put Windows 7 on the computer, hoping that would fix the problem. It hasn't. It's even made it worse. When I go to device manager, there isn't even anything there related to audio at all. Please help?

    Hi
Satellite P300-1BN belongs to series PSPC4E.
I didnt find Win 7 32bit drivers especially for this series but you could chose the PSPCLE.
On the Toshiba European driver page you could find the sound driver.
    I found this one:
    [Conexant Sound Driver 4.98.6.61|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=152&selProduct=777&selSho rtMod=726&language=13&selOS=29&selType=all&yearupl oad=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=all Machines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all& selectedLanguage=13&type=all&page=2&ID=68799&OSID= 29&driverLanguage=42]
I recommend to delete following devices from device manager:
    Conexant High definition smartaudio,
    Intel High definition audio
Microsoft UAA Bus driver for high definition.
    After that reboot the unit.
Now you could go to device manager and could update the driver for Conexant High definition smartaudio. Dont execute the exe file but update the driver in device manager.
Here you will have to choose advanced installation which help to point to the sound driver ini files which were downloaded from the Toshiba page.

HI there,,, I am trying to install windows to imac . I have a windows 7 disk and I go through the steps in boot camp, but once I get to choosing install windows 7. Nothing else. Just that. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated gents

Do you have more than one internal disk in the iMac or a Fusion drive?
You may not have enough contiguous disk space.
    1. Try Disk Utility Repair and then try the installation - Boot Camp: Solve partition creation problems

"The troubleshooting audio playback did not help, it says it cannot find any problems.  Windows 7 says I have a "High Definition Audio Device" sound card with no question mark.  When I right click on the sound card and click properties under the general tab device status says "This device is working properly."  This computer is an all-in-one imac therefore it has built in speakers however i tried pluging in speakers and they make almost no sound.  In addition when I have them plug in when runnning mac snow leopard it make an ok amount of sound just not as much as the computers built in speakers.  When I have them plug in when running wwindows 7 their volumn is max out with almost no sound.  Windows 7 says I have a "High Definition Audio Device" sound card but i was wondering if its mistaken and the sound card has a different name but this is speculation.  The windows 7 thinks the sound driver/card has the most up to date software. This is a common problem when installing Windows on a Mac.
AFAIA, you'll need to i nstall W7 specific audio drivers on the W7 partition.
However you may be better asking this question on an Apple forum.
    Cheers,

Also while you are at trying to fine a answer, this mac has a camera and other things, how do i test everything to see if they work on both sides.

I tried searching through the other questions here is a question if answer well help answer the first?
How do I figure out what is my sound driver is called?  I think Windows calls it High Definition Audio Device however something about the windows is mistaken because I have no sound.  But when on the mac side I do not know where to look either.   If I can find out what the sound driver is called then I can fined a update download.  The other similar questions that were answered suggested that the sound driver needed updated.

After you install Apple driver to enable the audio chip, YOU then need to manually download and install (Cirrus or Realtek audio depending on the Mac).

  • HT1349 After installing windows 8, I have no sound on my mac desktop. Need help?

    Hi,
I recently installed Windows 8 and after the installation there is no audio (sound) in my iMac. I can't hear youtube videos, mp3 files, no nothing.
    Suggestions to solves this problem?

As you sure that you don't have system sounds muted? If you have sound in the music app, then system sounds are muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Windows 7 install on an iMac with Lion, no Superdrive

I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my iMac. I have a retail copy of Home Premium (64bit and 32bit). My Superdrive has not worked in years and when I do need use of an optical drive I have an USB External  DVD Writer (Samsung Model SE - S084). The external drive has always worked but I have never needed it to boot from until now.
When I try to install Windows 7 via Boot Camp Assistant with the External Drive, everything goes good until the reboot. The drive spins up and the install just stalls, white screen just before the apple logo.
    Here's some system info:
    iMac 24-inch Mid 2007
ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB
    4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50)
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Boot ROM Version:          IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version (system):          1.21f4
    Model Identifier:          iMac7,1
    Few questions.
    Can I use 64-bit or 32-bit Windows 7?
Can I install via USB Drive with an ISO of Windows 7?
Am I supposed to be able to boot from the external drive?
    Is this a firmware issue?
What are my options to get Windows 7 installed?
    Thanks

According to this it sounds like 32 bit only for you.
Basically if you have a 64 bit proccessor then you may be able to, the early ones had some issues with Windows though.
Now whether or not there are work around's I don't know, I'm not up on my "bits", so you may want to search around on the forums to see if it can be done.
Supposedly yes, check out this. When using Disk Utility you MUST burn it at the lowest speed posssible.
W7 bootable USB flash drive is only supported on the latest model though.
According to your 10.7 Installation and Setup guide you should be able to.
Probably not but check anyway.  Check here to see if you have the latest Firmware updates.
Your options are all listed here?
