Installed Windows version of Spotlight today... Not bad! :)

I hope noone minds me drifting a bit off-topic, but as a die-hard mac user and fan, who must use a PeeeCee at work, I daily miss many Mac OS features and until recently, I missed Spotlight, too, until...
I installed this MSN Desktop Search thingy. Download took seconds, installation likewise and wow, it works!
For all of you who may find this helpful, you can find more under http://desktop.msn.com/ It definitely helped my life with windows...

I find it interesting though that windows just silently and for free enables its users to do such cool stuff. No fanfare, no huge advertising campaigns, no upgrades as such.. But of course they are much bigger and can afford it, I guess.
Also, it is not the only technology out there. There are google desktop, ask jeves, hotbot, copernic and others I guess which also allow you to do search in your files in one form or another. I just liked the way this particular one made my life easier and wanted to share with you guys!

G510 installed Windows 8.1 Function keys not working properly

last week i have puchased lenovo g510 laptop and installed windows 8.1 and later on automatically function keys and all the keys were not working properly. if i press key to increase brightness and some other operation is performing by its own. What's wrong with this LENOVO brand is this the way you take lots of money from people. I need an immediate solution from basic support to my home. If at all it is not resolved i will file a case on consumer court that LENOVO was chaeten me and what ever it may be i will go for end.

Were you able to install all the drivers and Software After the New installation of Win 8.1?

Start with the Chipset installation first then whatever comes next.
Make sure you select the proper version for your Windows type and version.

MSI B85M-G43 can't install Windows 7. Hard disk not detected.

Hi,
I just built a new computer for the first time. I followed the instructions and did everything correctly. but am unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Hard disk isn't always detected during the installation.
But when it appeared in the "Where do you want to install Windows" list along with system, I tried to format the hard disk and got a message "Failed to format the select partition. [Error 0x80070057]."
Then I restarted the computer, the hard disk no longer displayed in the list, so I put motherboard driver disc and clicked on Load Driver and opened Storage\Intel\PCH_12.0\f6flpy-x64. It loaded, then I got a message saying "To continue installation, use the Load Driver option to install 32-bit and signed 64-bit drivers. Installing an unsigned 64-bit device driver is not supported and might result in an unusable Windows installation."
I restarted again and disabled Driver Signature Enforcement, but it didn't help. I still got the same message.
In the computer case I have these devices:
- MSI B85M-G43, Socket-1150
- Intel Core i5-4430 Processor
- Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz 8GB
- MSI GeForce GTX 650Ti BOOST 1GB
- Cooler Master GX 550W PSU
- WD Desktop Green 1TB
- SuperMulti 16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive
Everything is plugged in correctly. Hard disk connector plugged in SATA 1 and DVD -> SATA 2.
The installation is pretty slow, regardless if i install it via USB or x16 DVD. All except DVD and hard disk are disabled. It's also worth to mention that even DVD and USB aren't always detected in the click BIOS.
So I'm wondering if anyone here can help me? Thanks

1: What BIOS version you have? .. Have you tryed to downgrade/upgrade it already?
2: Have you tryed it in those SATA 2 ports? ...is it same strory?
- On SATA there aint any master or Slave like on IDE so if you are under same controller it dosent mutter what port you use on what device.
Note: SATA 3 Ports are faster then SATA2 ports, but even SATA 1 can handel your DVD or HDD. So no lose if you need to use SATA 2 ports.

Problem installing windows - 'The installer disc could not be found'

Hello everyone,
I'd successfully partitioned my hard drive and am now trying to install windows. When I click on 'start installation' in boot camp assistant, there is a delay of 20 seconds and then a message, saying that 'the installer disc could not be found'. This is despite the windows CD showing up in the finder.
I've tried re-booting, re-starting boot camp and removing the CD, to no avail. For what it's worth I've also tried a friends windows CD just in case it is my one causing the problem.
Any tips?

I had the same issue with the installer disc not being found by boot camp, I tried multiple times with no luck, tried several windows vista home basic discs and made sure they were bootable, still no luck, finally I got the trial version of parallels, installed windows that way and it worked, the interesting thing is that afterwards, I left the CD I was using in the dvd drive, shut down the computer, next time I started the laptop, it wanted to boot up with the windows installation dvd I left in the drive, I cancelled, started mac os then ran boot camp and it worked fine.
Sounds to me like software issues from apple... I hope you find the solution, all this was very frustrating...

Installing Windows XP to Thinkpad X41 (Not Tablet)

Alright so I got a used IBM Thinkpad X41 from my uncle which had windows xp installed on it. He asked me to reformat it so his companys information and other data would be fully erased.
Some specs on the X41:
Does not have CD/DVD Drive so I can't install windows that way.
Does have USB slots, so I think that will be the only way to install (correct me if I am wrong).
Me being a complete newbie, I full erased the hard drive (so there is no OS). The laptop still turns on but when i let it run it says:
Media Test Failure, Check Cable
Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
Operating System Not Found
Luckily the Bios still works and I can access it but there is nothing I can do to restore it back to factory state or recover.
The Bios does detect my usb drive and I have placed that in the number one spot for boot order.
If there is anyway I can get an OS installed onto my pc I would be grateful. Note I don't need to install XP on the first install, If installing windows 98 or 95 will be faster and easier we can do that.
I can take it from there as all I will need is the xp install files which i have copied from my cd to my computers share folders.
Thanks again hopefully there is a solution to my problem, I'd really like to have this laptop for school as im going into grade 12.

Welcome to the forum!
Fastest and probably least painful way around this is to buy or borrow a USB CD-ROM and take it from there...

Been having trouble in pogo for few days now only with firefox installed new version and still can not get into games please advise can play in explorer but I did enjoy fire fox

I would like to know why I can't play any of my games in firefox from pogo. Have no problem in other sites. I used this all the time until three days ago but could not get in so went to explorer. Where it works fine. I uninstalled old firefox and put installed new version but the problem still remains. Would appreciate you looking into this for me. Thank you Jan

SJ1122 have you removed the migrated InDesign CS6 installation using the uninstaller located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder? If so then please also run the CC Cleaner tool - Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html to ensure complete removal.
Adobe applications are not designed to be copied/migrated/transferred to other computers. In the future please migrate/transfer/copy your documents and settings and reinstall your Adobe Creative Applications.

After installing trial version the program does not start

I installed the CS 5.5 Trial on Windows 7. Everything was ok, so I started InDesign and said accept to the License Agreement. But the program does not start, the license window always opens again after clicking accept. Can anybody help me?

Make sure to run with full administrative privileges the first time you launch the progrrams. Otherwise the licensing stuff will not be able to kick in and verify our trial period.

As for moving you itunes library, just copy the entier iTunes storage folder to the exterior drive. user/MyDocuments/Music/iTunes

Iphoto issue installing latest version - damaged or was not signed. was not signed

Hi i have just updated my macbook pro to 10.10.1 and now the iphoto needs updating aswell as it says the old version is not compatible now.
so i go to the app store and click install then is says...
Could not complete ypur purchase.
The product distribution file could not be verified. it may be damaged or was not signed.
i cannot get onto my iphoto at all.

Then the only thing I can suggest is try to reinstall the system, as I recommended in my first post. But since this really does not appear to be an iPhoto problem but a problem with the App Store, consider to post your question again in the "Using Mac App Store" forum.

How to install window manager: awesome ? package not found

i have installed arch linux from: archlinux-2010.05-core-dual.iso.
Base installation.
i made a system update
# pakman -Syu
# packman -S base-devel
[comunity] is enabled in /etc/pacman.conf
but if i try
# pakman -S awesome
i get
error: 'awesome' could not find or read package
what did i wrong ?

Re-read fsckd's post - the link to AUR wiki article is all you need. If you still can't figure it out, sorry, but ArchLinux may not be the distro for you.
