Installed Windows XP on 27" iMac in bootcamp partition, but no sound.

I recently installed windows xp on my boot camp partition, but there is no sound when i am in the windows OS. I tried repairing with my start up disk and troubleshooting the audio drivers, but nothing helped. Anyone have any more ideas?

goto device drivers and find HD audio driver, disable it.

If your system is Core2Duo or better, use 64-bit.  32-bit only sees 3.5 GB RAM max.  64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max, and 64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max.

  • Need help installing windows 7 on my Imac using bootcamp

Hi everyone so I just got a new mac and I gotta say not very tech smart when it comes to apple products but Ive been trying to install windows 7 using bootcamp now just making it clear that I am using a ledgitimate legal windows cd and not a copy. I dowloaded the necessary updates to a cd i took every step that i needed that i found and when it came to installing the software on my mac after i insert the disc it will start reading and make a sound like its reading the disc but then would stop after a few seconds and the i get a message to insert a windows disc and wait till its recognized to install. Ive done that waited till it was recognized and clicked install and same thing happens ive tried 3 different microsoft corp windows programs and its the same thing with all of them. I did put different cds music and movies and it read them quick and played them without a problem seems like its only the windows discs. Please help any solutions references and suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks

i thought about the same thing so i had restored my mac to factory settings did all the updates and tried again however when i dowloaded the software for windows and put it in a cd for me it never said partition y always said install so i would click it but as my comment above it would read the disc for a few seconds and stop all together and not install the software.

    Hi
I am planning to install window 7 on my imac ( version - ox mountaion loin - 10.8.2,  purchase this year in may 2012) but before installing the same pls let me know what i would required means - is there required any special  software or  hardware.... or is there any different cd for mac windows.....
    Thanks,
    Punit Garg

    You require Windows 7.
Windows 7 is the same and will run the same as it would on a Windows computer. All programs that run on a windows computer will run on your Windows once installed. You will need anti virus software for your Windows partition. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and it works well.
Read the help files before installing http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/.

  • Takes hours to install windows 8 on 5k Imac

The first thing i did when i got my maxed out 5k retina Imac with 1 TB fusion drive is i installed windows 8.1 on it using bootcamp. That was 5 months ago. a few weeks back i was experiencing crashes and generally a very laggy windows so i decided to uninstall, unpartition and re-install windows all over again. Thats where i am having problems.
After the system restarts and the windows installation begins, i notice that it lags as if it it loading when i am clicking the next button which it didnt before and it is extremelly slow when installing, i figured i would let it get it done, it took maybe 5-6 hours to finish installing everything. After the installation was complete windows was also extremely slow and laggy, basically just froze every 2-3 seconds or whenever i tried clicking to start up windows explorer or any other task i wanted to do.
Although everything is working fine and running smoothly on my MAC side of the system.
I have tried reinstalling OS x and trying again, i have also tried repairing my hard drives using disk utility but still got the same issue.

Windows is installed on the HDD, not the SSD (bootcamp default). You can force Windows installation manually on the SSD, but it is a 120GB SSD. On my Macminis, with a DIY Fusion drive, I have a 256g/512g SSD (depending the Mini usage) and a 1TB HDD, and I do not re-install Windows since I have put it on the SSD side.
If you use Yosemite, it uses a CS volume, which is a combination of an SSD and HDD. The Fusion implementation moves blocks around based on frequency of access and usage. Yosemite can handle the IO overhead on a fragmented drive, but Windows cannot. My suggestion is to
    1. Back up OSX using Time Machine - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
    2. Boot into Internet Recovery - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support.
    3. Erase your internal drive and restore from the TM backup in Step 1 - OS X Yosemite: Recover your entire system.
Please be aware that TM does not backup Bootcamp partitions. Once Windows is installed, do not remove it. If you must, run the same steps again. It is unfortunate that these types of performance issues are not documented any where for the user to take corrective action.

  • How to install windows 7 using usb as the bootcamp doesnot have the option of creating a bootable usb. please help

I have an intel based mac with 10.6.8 mac os x. How to install windows 7 using usb as the bootcamp doesnot have the option of creating a bootable usb. please help

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install Windows from a USB drive in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - MacBook Air.
    - iMac (Late 2012).
If you don't have any of these Macs, you can't install Windows through a USB drive. Instead, buy Windows on a DVD. Follow Apple's steps > http://support.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1519/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6. pdf

  • Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work

Installed Windows 7 on my IMac, now I can't get Apple OS to work, I have tried booting with Snow Leopard disc in and nothing works. I had trouble from the start but now nothing works except Windows 7, sound wont work etc. etc.

I originally tried installing Widows 7 so I could run my Flight Simulator X on the IMac I got from my daughter and I used BootCamp and had partitioned it at about 4GB for windows and the first thing I got was I had to put a bootable disc in and neither the windows 7 or Snow Leopard would work. Then I got Windows 7 to work but I can't get Snow Leopard to run, when I put the disc in it says that it not supported. Of course windows wont show me anyother areas of the disc that I could try to get to, the other side of the partition I guess. I have tried holding the C key down on reboot and that doesn't work. I hope this gives you a little more insight as to what is going on. Thanks Bill

  • HT1455 I tried to install windows 7 on my imac but the computer was not booting again what shall I do?

I was installing windows 7 on my imac but the installation was not completed and now I cannot boot what shall I do?

Provided you used BootCamp to do the installation, with your machine off, press and hold down the "Option" key while turning it on.  Hold the key down until you get the screen where you can select which OS to boot into.  Select OS X (you'll need to physically click the button here... tapping won't work if you have it enabled).  Once in OS X, go into System Preferences and Startup Disk.  This is where you set the default OS to boot into.  Change it to OS X.  Relaunch BootCamp Assistant to remove the failed installation of Windows.  You can try again if you wish.

  • According to the apple website I need to upgrade Boot camp 3.0 to at least 3.1 in order to install Windows 7 on my iMac currently running Snow Leopard. I download the 3.1 version but it is only a text file and there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade

In order to install Windows 7 on my iMac I need to upgrade bootcamp to at least 3.1  I currently have 3.0.4 After downloading from the website there is no way to install it - it is just a text file? What should I do?

You have to start with 3.0, which is on the OSX disc that came wih your Mac.

  • Failed to install Windows Vista SP2 on iMac

I was trying to install Windows Vista on my iMac. In fact, I have successfully installed before but I deleted it because something wrong with it. However, the second time I installed was failed (Stuck at "Completing Installation") I tried 4 times and they were all the same. But the weirdest thing was I could install Windows Vista through Parallels Desktop. (but can't install it through boot camp)
I just thought of one problem
-I plugged in an external hard disk
    Would it be the problem?
Is there any method that can solve this problem?

    Hi,
I just thought of one problem
-I plugged in an external hard disk
    Would it be the problem?
It is most likely the cause of your problem.
During installation of Vista (and personally I do this with OSX system upgrades as well) it is advisable to disconnect all non-essential external devices, leaving only mouse, keyboard and, if neccessary, display connected.
SO, disconnected your external HD, use the BootCamp Assistant to revert the partitioning back to a single-OSX volume and start again.
After reverting back you should restart your Mac.
    Hope it helps
    Stefan
Is there any method that can solve this problem?

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on new iMac

Trying to install Windows 7 on new iMac (OS X Mavericks). Have Windows 7 DVD. Have superdrive. Have USB flash drive. What is, and where do I find the "Windows ISO image" that Bootcamp is asking for? ("select the Windows ISO image"...)

You can use the installation dvd from microsoft or you can download the iso file from microsoft and use that method instead.
