Installed Yosemite on Macbook Pro Epson 840 printer will not print. Uninstalled and now will NOT re-install.
I installed Yosemite last night. Today I needed to print a lot of papers. When I tried to print - nothing happened. Would not even print a test page. Looked it up and found information that said to uninstall printer and re-install. After searching a long time for the CD - I have been trying to reinstall and it only installed a tiny bit and stopped. It has been trying for the last hour and refuses to install the drivers! Why don't they tell you this ahead of time. This is such a problem. Can anyone help? Thanks

Mostly explained in the title. My dad gave me his MacBook, and I went ahead and wiped all of his stuff by using the recovery partition to wipe/reinstall OSX Lion. In the setup I used a new apple ID and now I can't get iLife apps. I'm relatively new to how apple works its purchases, so I'm not sure what's up. Is it that my computer has a unique ID set to the first apple ID used on it, and if so, how can I get this reset to my ID? I'm planning to get an iPhone 5 soon so I'd like to be able to use photo stream with iPhoto and try out Guitar Band.

Problems with mail program freezing since installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro 2011
When Mail freezes, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. -
I cannot save or export from Pages since installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro . I just get the message at beginning of this post “Acceptance Letter.pages” doesn’t exist or whatever file title I have inserted How to solve problem?
Thanks Peter but I was not seeking to store with I-Cloud. In fact I never store documents with I-cloud.
I was in fact trying to store the files to Documents, which is where I usually keep such things.
Have now discovered that if I leave the file untiled and simply close it, rather than saving it then it will save, oddly, to Documents. I then have to re-title it and move to the folder I want it in.
Despite the above, even once it is titled and saved in Documents then if I reopen it I still cannot then Export it to a Word or PDF file. I still just get the message . xxxxxx.pages does not exist!
Bad news as I am constantly exporting documents to Word and PDF to send to others who do not use a Mac -
I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? In my macbook pro 15 inch mid 2012 model, my cpu and gpu will get very hot, when gaming or rendering sometimes over 200F. The fans only spin at max about 2900 rpm, when their max is 6400. I downloaded a fan control app, but how can i fix it?

My MacBook Pro was stolen less than a week ago, and I'm not sure if the hard drive was wiped, if it was wiped would I still be able to find it with the findiphone app? Or would it be untraceable after it was wiped? I had alot of special things on my laptop, and I would hate it if I didn't find it, so I'm hoping it wasn't wiped and I will be able to find it soon, HELP ME IF YOU CAN PLEASE! ANYTHING HELPS!

When the installation on my Macbook Pro early 2011 OS X 10.7.5. goes to the page for installing Yosemite, nothing happens and after several minutes it says, "File system verify or repair failed" "Quit the installer to restart your compuer and try again" I have restarted 4 times with the same result
Ended up restoring from Time Machine. This seemed to take care of the errors on the drive that prevented the installation. Will try again.

Lost Elements when I installed Yosemite on Macbook Pro
I have just installed the new Yosemite OS on both my older iMac desktop (early 2008) and my one month old Macbook Pro. Photoshop Elements 9.0.3 installed along with everything else just fine on the older iMac BUT I lost it entirely during the upload to the nearly new Macbook Pro. Both Barbara B.’s and GoletaMum’s advice are good suggestions. Barbara B.’s advice is more intricate, and involves “deleting & trashing” actions. Therefore, I would suggest, first, trying GoletaMum’s, “…re-installing PSE -- and make sure you've updated Yosemite… find PSE 11 and reinstall it, then run the updates… first, make sure your MacOS is up to date.” --- If you are lucky, executing a clean reinstall of the Photoshop Elements 11 application you purchased and downloaded from i-Tunes to your “Apple MacBook Pro 13-inch medio 2012,” back in JAN 2014, after you re-update to “Yosemite” OS X version 10.10.1, might resolve your problem.
If GoletaMum’s suggestion does not resolve things for you, consider cautiously and intelligently proceeding with implementing the technical procedural details of “Adobe top contributor…MEMBER SINCE: August 16, 2002…Adobe Community Professional” Barbara B.’s “Resolution-Fix.”
It is not clear to me what is going on between your MacBook Pro computer & Apple Central’s “Gatekeepers,” with regard to “After startup…asks to sign up with my Apple ID…then…gives the error message: YOUR DEVICE OR COMPUTER COULD NOT BE VERIFIED.”
Did you install “Yosemite” OS X version 10.10.0, first, and then do an install of the “Yosemite” OS X version 10.10.1 update, after which your problems with PSE 11 began to appear or did you go from some other Pre-(???) “Yosemite” [???...Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks???] OS X (where PSE 11 functioned), and then upgrade straight to “Yosemite” OS X version 10.10.1 from there, rather than upgrading to and then from a “Yosemite” OS X version 10.10.0 install?

1 MB Page-outs1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Installing Yosemite on MacBook Pro didn't succeed.
With my Macbook Pro running smoothly under OSX Mavericks, I tried to upgrade to OSX Yosemite with a clean installation by an Install OSX Yosemite USB stick.
But after about 8 minutes of installation I got an message on my display that there are problems with unpacking files in the map called: Essentials.pkg.
I try it a several times again, but without succes, I got every time the same message again.
So I decided to make an Install OSX Mavericks USB stick again, to reinstall this again and with succes.
After this I try to install OSX Yosemite upgrade by downloading it through the App Store.
After 9 seconds passed installation time I got this message:
This copy of the OS X Yosemite installation program can not be controlled. It is possible that the software has been damaged or tampered with during download.
Remove this copy of the program and go to the ' Purchases ' in the Mac App Store to download a new copy.
Also through this method of upgrade, I try it different times, but again getting this message on my display.
I search on the internet by Google to find out of more people experienced, what I experienced by trying to install OSX Yosemite Upgrade, but I couldn’t find any.

Has anyone a solution for me how to fix this?Thanks Peter but I was not seeking to store with I-Cloud. In fact I never store documents with I-cloud.
I was in fact trying to store the files to Documents, which is where I usually keep such things.
Have now discovered that if I leave the file untiled and simply close it, rather than saving it then it will save, oddly, to Documents. I then have to re-title it and move to the folder I want it in.
Despite the above, even once it is titled and saved in Documents then if I reopen it I still cannot then Export it to a Word or PDF file. I still just get the message . xxxxxx.pages does not exist!
Bad news as I am constantly exporting documents to Word and PDF to send to others who do not use a Mac -
I cant install Yosemite on Macbook Pro
We have a 3 yr old MacBook Pro. A few weeks ago it stopped working, nothing, everything would freeze and the pinwheel would spin and spin.We took it to Apple and they spent an hour running diagnostics. "Oh its fine, its your home wi-fi network" So we downloaded Yosemite there and took it home. I just went to install Yo. and it wont work, NOTHING opens, it freezes up.
HELP before I throw this brick at the fireplace.
PleaseAmazon may not have the correct drive for you, as it may need a firmware patch. http://www.macsales.com/ and http://www.mcetech.com/ are the only ones that have known fully compatible drives with Macs on the optical front. http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ can tell you what might be needed for other drives, and it varies.

Charging: NoI had this problem and went to the Apple Genius bar 3 times and everytime they said it was a logicboard failure.. they repaired my logicboard 3 times and within a week of use the x icon would show up.. and it would only run when the power adapter was plugged in.
But as i was fed up going back and forth to the Apple store.. I left the charger connected for about 3-4 days and one the 4th day I pressed the battery button on the side and Voila! It lit up the amount of battery charged.. Keep in mind that the battery light on the left hand side didnt lit up when I pressed the button when the x battery icon showed up
Not to sure how long this will last but I just checked my battery information and now it shows how much cycles and etc it has.. (when before it had all zeros)
I've found that the x battery icon only comes on when the battery is fully depleted (sometimes)!
Btw I have the early 2011 macbook pro 13" unibody model so I wasn't able to take out the battery beneath!
