Installer and disk utility deleted please help

I'm using an eMac 10.3.9 700mhz .The installer, terminal, and disk utilities have somehow been deleted from the utilities folder and I'm don't know how to replace them. I no longer have panther CD-roms, and did not think to back them up. Any ideas how I could get them back?

the installer shouldn't be in a folder with disk utility, or not the main installer anyway. what you should do at this point is get the install disks for the current operating system and do an archive and install of the operating system. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120 make sure you run disk repair beforehand and that you fix any errors that come up. you may have to reinstall some third party applications. good luck and let me know how you're doing. • Cany you help me with Installation and Disk Utility questions?

    Greetings.
I'm just learning this stuff, so your responses in basic terminology would be appreciated. (Instruct me as you would my grandson). I have two questions.
First, I bought a used dual 450 from a friend, and, as I do not have the disks or license for the OS, I decided to make it legal by purchasing, registering, and installing new Panther DVDs. As I have been running 10.3.9 and the new disks are labeled eMac 10.3.3, is there anything I should or should not do in the process of installing the new disks? Do I need to install 10.3.3 and then download the 10.3.9 update? Will I lose anything in the process? I assume the eMac disks will work OK on a G4 tower.
Second, After power failures (common where I live), when I re-start the computer, it won't progress beyond the spinning spoke thing (I don't know what it's called), so I have to shut the computer down, and, after one or two more attempts to start up, it seems to start up OK.
I was told that, after a situation like this, I should start up with the install disk and run Disk Utility to repair the start-up disk.
The problem is that when I attempted to do this with the new DVD (again, I have not installed the OS from the DVD yet), the computer started up fine, but Disk Utility ran for a minute or so, then gave me the following message: "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility." This happened twice in succession. I quit Disk Utility (although it warned me that I could rended the disk inoperable). The disk seems OK, but I don't know what the problem is with DIsk Utility, or what to do.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Jerry:
Getting back to the problem you're having with Disk Utility, a number of people have encountered this following an update to iTunes. If I understand correctly, when you bought the G4 it came with Panther installed, which your friend had updated to 10.3.9.
In an earlier post, Kappy posted the most succinct work-around I have found for this error:
    1. Navigate to the /Library/Receipts/ folder.
    2. Locate the iTunes.pkg and iTunesX.pkg files and move them to the Desktop.
    3. Run Disk Utility and repair permissions.
    4. Move the .pkg files back into the /Library/Receipts/ folder.
Give it a try and let us know how it works. As for your installation DVD, I have to concur with the others who have posted: it's meant specifically for one model of the eMac. It may work on another mac, but odds are it'll be problematic.

You can only Repair Disk from a different boot volume so boot from your Tiger installer disk, select your language and then from the menu>Utilities>Disk Utility. select your hard drive and then Repair Disk. If Disk Utility can't repair it you will need a stronger utility like DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.

  • Boot Camp Assistant: Using disk utility? (PLEASE HELP!)

I am trying to download Windows XP with boot camp and I waited for the disk to be partitioned (I'm not even really sure what that means) and then it says:
The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot me moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single MAC OS Extended (Journaled) Volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.
Okay, so I went to Disk Utility and now I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Please help!

If you use Time Machine you can reinstall Leopard and then using the Install Disc go to the Utilities and go to the Restore from Time Machine. You can restore your new drive to any of the saved days. It would save them to the hard disk defragmented. Another program is SuperDuper! which can make a clone of your Macintosh HD to an external disc as a bootable option. This is easier and faster though this program has not been confirmed to work with Leopard yet. And as I said before you can buy iDefrag for $30 and not have to restore and erase anything. But what ever you do, make sure to back your files up.

    Hi alexandros.c;
If after doing what Michael suggested you are still not able to repair your disk, you may need a more powerful such as DiskWarrior to repair it I have found that when the the disk has problems that the tools within OS X are unable to repair then DW usual does it.
If DW is not able to do it for you about the only other alternative is to reformat and start over again.
You should have a good backup before doing either of these solutions to protect yourself.

  • Windows XP and disk utility software. HELP!!!

Okay so, i bought the Airport Extreme (802.11n) base station, because I desperately need a wireless network at home. I came home to install my disk on my windows xp computer and everything seemed to go fine, but whenever I try to open the utility program it says it encountered an error and totally shuts down. I can open up the help program fine, and it isn't the disk because it worked on my macbook. I also downloaded the software from the apple site and had the same problem.
anyone encounter and solve this problem?
    any suggestions would be wonderful!

I'm having the same problem. Misery loves company, but I'd like an anwer better!! Any chance you found a solution? If so please post.

  • IPhoto and Disk Utility Will Not Launch - Please Help!!

    Hello!
The last week I have not been able to launch iPhoto. When I tried to troubleshoot last night by going through solutions on the forums, I realized that I couldn't launch Disk Utility either. I have since run the Disk Utility from the Mac OS Panther Install Disk, gone through several troubleshooting procedures (font cleanups, cache cleanups, hard-disk space cleanups, etc.) but with no success.
The last troubleshooting doc I went through recommended checking Console for a log of problems, and sure enough, the only comments in the Console Log were related to iPhoto and Disk Utility. Can someone please advise regarding the below comments and how to fix??
    Thank you SO much!

Hi - I appreciate the assistance, but archiving and reinstalling does not help me determine why this happened, how to prevent it from happening again, and is a fairly elaborate process for something that might have a quick fix (what I was hoping for). I was trying to leave that as a last resort.
Also, I have no idea what Onyx is - would you elaborate?
    Thank you!

  • Cloned failed HD to new HD and OS X Recovery / Disk Utility is no help

My 500 GB internal HD recently failed on my 2010 iMac. So I cloned the 500 GB drive to a new 1 TB drive with a Sabrent Docking Station in order to keep my data and installed the new drive in my mac.
I figured either the new drive would just "work" because it was the old hardware (HD drive) that was previously bad and a new drive should be fine or I could recover via OS X Recovery or be able to use Disk Utility to repair the new drive if it wasn't working.
Well...I can't reinstall my OS with OS X Recovery because it says my new HD is "locked" and I don't know how to unlock it and Disk Utility is unable to repair my new drive.
The third problem is I can't find my original OS install disk that came with my mac so that's not an option either.
Not sure where do go from here?

To your local Apple Store or AASP. To order a replacement to your original install discs call AppleCare, for a nominal charge they will help you replace it. You will need the serial number and a credit card. Expect the replacement cost to be about $30.

I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

  • I can't burn a dvd using any method, Idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when i click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac

I can't burn a dvd using any method, idvd tells me that my super drive is missing, dvd studio pro quits when i click burn and disk utility keeps spitting the disk out when I click burn and enter the disk??? how do i repair my superdrive for imac, or how do I do whatever I need to do to get it working: I have already tried using a lens cleaning cd and also restored my nvram or something i forget what it was called but i restarted my computer holding down  command+optoion+p+r and still nothing???
Free solutions are the best, although if I have to pay I will, I would prefer to not have to buy an external burner if possible and already know that is an option so please don't give me that answer... thank you for any help you can give

Unless your iMac is still covered by AppleCare, get an external DVD burner.
You can get perfectly good ones from Amazon for less than $40.

I have a big problem regarding my iphone4 it wont start up and it keeps vibrating, please help me fix it. its been vibrating since 2 pm until now 7pm here in Philippines

What program did you use to fix the internal hard drive? What repairs did it report making? More crucially, if repairs were reported, did you re-run the utility until it reported no problems found? It's possible for one set of problems with a drive to mask others.
If you have about 5GB or so free space on the internal hard drive, you can use your OS X Install disc to perform an Archive and Install to recover from the failed Software Update. When the computer restarts, download and run the OS X Update Combo 10.4.11 (Universal). When the Mac restarts after that, run Software Update. During all this, make sure nothing interrupts or shuts down the Mac! Note that the first start after each of these updates will take significantly longer than subsequent starts, so be very patient.
How did you back up your internal drive to the external one? Did you just drag things over in the Finder, or did you use a utility such as SuperDuper! or CarbonCopyCloner? Does the external HD show up as a bootable volume in System Preferences > Startup Disk, or using Startup Manager?

  • Problems running Software Update and Disk Utility

I had automatic updating turned on in the Software Updates control panel, so I believe the system tried to apply the 10.4.6 automatically and somehow failed.
Ever since, when I try to run Software Update it hangs while trying to connect to the internet to get the list of available updates. I tried downloading the installer directly from Apple, but when I try to select a volume on which to install the update, it doesn't list my hard drive.
Finally, when trying to run the Disk Utility, I get an error about how the Disk Utility cannot be started because a background process is not running. I have to Force Quit to exit out of the Utility.
I was able to boot off the Mac OS X 10.4 installation DVD at which point I repaired the permissions and repaired the disk. However, upon restart the same problems remain.
I've seen several other people post about this issue; has anyone found a resolution OTHER than doing an Archive and Install (which I don't want to do if I don't have to?)
Thanks so much for help that anyone can provide!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Create a new admin account with Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts and see if the issue duplicates itself logging into that account. That will say if the issue systemwide, or just localized to the a bad user cache file. If the issue persists in the new user, you can try looking in the System -> Library and Library -> Cache, Applications Support, and ByHost folders for cache files relating to Software Update and Disk Utility. Once you find them, carefully extract them to comparable folders on your desktop you create (i.e. name one systemlibrarycache) so you know where you go them from, and restart your Mac. If the issues go away after two restarts then it is just one set of bad cache files. If the issues return after two restarts, you have something generating bad cache files which needs a more system wide repair tool.

  • Safari, Mail and Disk Utility won't run unless Font Book is Open

Recently Safari, Mail and Disk Utility would crash and spin and the "Application Not Responding" line would appear when I checked the program in the dock. After following a variety of tips from other Apple users, I finally got the programs to run. However, I started them while Font Book was open and now they only work when it remains open. I've been using Apple/Mac products since the beginning of time and have never seen anything like this. I've repaired permissions, throught out preferences, etc., etc. and can't resolve this problem. Please, someone, help me.

    Hello buhrow:
That makes two of us that go back to the beginning of time and have never seen anything like that. Have you run the fontbook applications to eliminate duplicates and check for corrupt fonts? Offhand, I cannot understand why just having a program open would prevent other programs from crashing.
If nothing else works, you might want to consider an archive and install (after backing up, of course):
