Installer doesn't detect all instances

I have 2 separate Oracle 8.0.5.1 instances running on a RedHat
6.0 server (2.2.10ac12). During the installation of 8i, the
Universal Installler detects only one of the databases, not both.
Both databases are the result of my own doing. Both instances
were created using essentially the same procedures. When I
installed 8.0.5, I chose custom install, and selected NOT to
create the sample database.
I'd like the installer to see all the instances so I can perform
the upgrade to all of them (AFTER I'm conviced it'll work). Right
now it sees only my production database, not my test db.
Does anyone know what the installer means by, "The Oracle
Universal Installer detected the databases listed below as
registered on your compute"? How does a database get "registered"
on a Linux box?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
null

A database is "registered" if there's an entry for it in
/etc/oratab. Plain and simple.
Sorry to bother you all.

  • Solved. Installer doesn't detect harddrives

Hello, so this is my first time trying to install arch linux outside of virtualbox and the installer doesn't seem to detect my hard drives.
I get to the point in installation where I'm supposed to partition my harddrives and nothing is there, so I selected other and by using "dmesg | grep sd" I managed to find out that the drive i wanted to contain my arch install was called sdb. I wrote /dev/sdb in the "other"-box and was able to partition my hard dive the way I want. However, when I get to the step where I'm supposed to set my filesystems mountpoints there is no detected hard drives and no "other" option, so I'm pretty much stuck there.
I have tried searching but I didn't find anything on this particular problem, only GRUB related issues. Is there anyone here that know how to solve this?
Sorry for my English, it's not my first language but hopefully i made some sense at least.
edit, I forgot to add that I have tried the legacy IDE booting method too, but it did not help.

I have no idea why the installer doesn't detect your hardrive, but you should be able to workaround by mounting the partitions manually.
    - mount the root partition to /mnt
    - create a directory in /mnt for each separate partition
    - mount all the partitions
then go to the step after setting hard drives in the installer.
I'm not sure this will work, just try. the installer should complains that you did not set any mountpoints, maybe entering the Set Filesystem Mountpoints step, and exiting with DONE can fix this.
Thanks for your reply, will try that.
One question tho, how would I set the swap partition using that method?

  • Snow Leopard Installer doesn't detect my hard drive?! help!

After my earlier post, where my replacement 320gig hard drive is incorrectly (not GUID) partitioned, I backed everything up, made a time machine copy just to be safe, and set about formatting the entire drive, doing a fresh install, and then updating via one of my back ups etc.
However, when I tried restarting from the CDRom, it just hung on the Apple grey splash screen for about 10 minutes with nothing happening, I restarted and held one 'ALT' the two options were my hard drive and the Snow Leopard install disk - I selected the install disk and after short while I was presented with the installer.
The installer displayed no hard drive, nor did the disk utility within' the installer, I can't think what the problem could be, as, as soon as I ejected the installer cd, I booted straight back into my normal system (which I am writing this on now).
I really am stumped as what to do next, comments, suggestions and observations welcome :-D
    Andy (D-F3ens)

I tried that and the both disk's pass the verification, the problem is the installer detecting my hard drive.
When i'm running 10.5 and try to install from the SL Disk it picks up the hard drive (but says it cannot install to this volume, use disk utility etc) - its when I restart and enter the installer via the splash menu, it fails to pick up my hard drive.
I cant see any other way of partitioning my drive to the required GUID, even when I made a seperate 20gig partition, it remains as Mac OSX Journaled on the same drive thats partition scheme is 'Apple Partition Map'.
Bootcamp will not help me either, I thought of creating a seperate partition and installing it to that, then reformatting the rest of the drive from within' SL, but Bootcamp says that it cannot modify the 'startup disk' and says it requires reformatting.
I really am stumped as to what to do next, I can't understand why the installer picks up the hard drive whilst its running, but when its in the installer it doesn't

  • 11.1.1.5 Install Issue - Installer Doesn't Detect WebLogic

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install 11.1.1.5 on a single Windows 2008 64-bit machine and I've run into a bit of a snag.
I've successfully installed the 64-bit JDK and WebLogic 10.3.5, and the necessary schemas have been created via RCU.
I'm to the point now where I'm attempting to do a software-only install for OBIEE. The installer reaches the 'Installation Location' screen, where it detects the Middleware Home. It defaults to our current middleware home (D:\Oracle\MiddleWare), which is good, however there is an alert that says "An Application Server must already be installed", as if it can't detect WebLogic. This is preventing me from moving forward with the installation.
WebLogic is installed in that middleware home and it's running (single domain, Admin Console), so I'm not sure why the installer can't find it.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Jim

I'm back up and running now. The installer pre-populated MW_HOME correctly (d:\Oracle\Middleware) but apparently didn't recognize the WL install there. I clicked Browse and manually selected the very same MW_HOME directory and the installer immediately detected WL and allowed me to continue. Very odd.
    Cheers all,
    Jim

sound works if i manually load the modules for my audigy and my intel sound card and set them as defaults, but this stinks because alsa seems to randomly renumber the cards after reboot

Why do you use alsa and pulseaudio at the same time? You could have only pulseaudio and in, for an example, pavucontrol (gui for pulseaudio settings) you could choos which should be first, and rest mark as the spare. If you want to use pulse and alsa (in my case i have this option because i use mainly alsa and pulseaudio only for skype) you could set index for alsa (you have to crate file in /etc/modprobe.d/ and name it alsa-base.conf) and configure pulse to not grab alsa hadrware by editing /etc/pulse/default.pa. Both of these metods are explained on archwiki in pulseaudio and alsa pages.
BTW - about nvidia hdmi. nvidia sound chip use the same driver, that intel hda does:

You may need to patch the kernel.  Try the arch-scsi option though.
I have a patched kernel for SII 3512.  I had to install to an ide drive, patch and recompile the kernel, then transfer to my SATA drive (/dev/hde)

I purchased LR6 as an upgrade from LR5. On both my desktop and laptop the LR6 install did not detect that LR5 was already installed, complained that a qualifying product had not been detected, and asked for the previous LR version and serial number.
I had the current version of LR5 - 5.71 - installed on both machines.

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

when you have the same issue after the SMC reset:
put new batteries in the MM (even if the others are not empty), turn Bluetooth off then on again on the MBA, take all USB connections out (if any), delete the pairing of the MM and re pair the MM.

  • Truncate all Instances in SOA SUITE 11g BPEL SOAINFRA SCHEMA

    Hi Guys!
We are running Oracle SOA SUITE 11g + BPEL, Version 11.1.1.3.0 (PS2)
We running out of disk space issues in a database due to large number of test instances in dehydration storage.
Is there any way to TRUNCATE all tables in order to clean up instances from BPEL engine (SOAINFRA schema)
Oracle provides this functionality (purge scripts and implemented procedures in a database) but this is a deleting approach and it doesn't work with millions of instances in a storage. Deleting instances from GUI doesn't work at all.
    1. We are looking the way to truncate all instances in a database rather then delete them which takes ages and doesn't work properly in case of huge amount of instances.
    2. We would like wipe out all instances without any time restrictions.
Any feedback, script from you guys would be much appreciated.
    Cheers!!

    Hi,
There still no solution for truncating tables. Looks like we have to look into Oracle's procedures in delivered with SOA SUITE installation.
I posted an article about deleting large number of instances in SOA Suite 11g. It does the job in a pretty fast way.

  • HP installer will not detect networked LaserJet MFP M1536dnf just on some PCs

    Hello,
this printer/scanner was working fine (printer still works fine via a Windows print server). Then scanning (via network) stopped working on one PC (Windows 7).
Tried to uninstall drivers / HP software and reboot. Then tried to install again - HP Installer will not detect printer on the network no matter what. I can ping the IP of this printer, access its web interface without any issues on the same PC. Tried specifying IP address in the installer - does not detect, the same issue with MAC address.
Had a Windows 8 machine with drivers / software installed on it, tested - scanning still worked fine on that PC. Tried to remove HP software to see if problem will appear. And it did! I cannot install the same software package which I still had in downloads - it will NOT detect the printer on network.
Upgraded printer firmware - no change, even though I don't expect this to be a printer issue as it worked fine until I have uninstalled software on this W8 machine.
Tried using HP Scan & Print doctor. That thing doesn't see printer/scanner installed and only suggest to download and install software which is not helpfull at all.
I also tried extracting HP installation files and finding *.inf files which could be used to add scanner via Windows directly, but haven't succeded with that (I would also be not sure how to specify network IP address in such a case anyway).
Any help is MUCH appreciated. We are kind of stuck...
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Run some diagnostics and see if any issues are discovered.
There have been reported issues with the NVIDIA 650 with some of the HP PCs. Additionally, most models of the NVIDIA 650 require a 400 watt power supply as the minimum and some models require a PCI six (6) pin power connector which the 300 watt power supply in your PC is not provisioned.
There is a BIOS update posted for your PC so you might want to consider installing that update.

  • Computer doesn't detect sound c

Ok it seems I've made a big mistake... I had de-activated my SB Audigy 2 in Device Manager and was planning to un-install to do a fresh install.
Before I un-installed it I forgot to activate it and now everytime I start the installation it says it doesn't detect it... However I managed to install Creative Game Port and Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) manually in Device Manager but it doesn't give any sound and when I try doing the installation it still says it doesn't detect it.
Is there any way to make it so it detects it again (without having to mess around with hardware by unplugging and plugging card) through BIOS or some software?
    Thanks!

Hey, thanks for taking your time to help
    > Have you run a test on the card, via the sound test from the Control Panel?
Yes it was simply saying there was no device, even after installing Creative Game Port and Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM). These were installed manually with the Creative Installation CD but they probably weren't the drivers exactly...
    > Is the card fully seated in the slot?
Um I guess so... I mean it had always worked before I un-installed it. But games like BF42 and BF2 crashed. They didn't crash when I had my older system.
Since when I've changed to a new one with a different processor, motherboard and graphics card I've had many problems at first, BSODS etc and eventually everything got fried, but only hardware survi'ved, the SB Audigy 2.
The tech guys at the store replaced everything but the Sound Card, which seemed to be ok, and changed the motherboard to a GA-K8NXP Sli and it seemed everything was ok this time, no random BSODs but I was having lock-ups (screen turning black with hissing/screeching and crackling noises), CTDs and auto reboots in BF2 and BF42.
First I went to look at the IRQs, the Sound Card was sharing an IRQ with one of the graphics card. I de-acti'ved that specific graphics card and ran the games with only but I still was having problems. I decided to use WinDbg to debug the MiniDump files that had been created after the crashes.
One of them refered to ctaud2k.sys, which is a driver used by the Sound Card I believe, and that is why I first tried to de-activate the sound card (still crashed somehow) and then finally decided to un-install it (forgot to activate it before doing this).
At the moment I'm using AC97 Onboard audio and had no crashes whatsoever in any of the games. They do have worse audio quality of course (crackling/popping in BF2 and echoes in BF42 if both set to play with Hardware), but no crash!
Perhaps the SBAudigy2 was semi-damaged or something, I don't know. I'm thinking of buying a new one. I hope I'll have no problems with it.
What bothers me at the moment though is that Windows keeps detecting a "PCI Input Device" (Creative Game Port) and "Multimedia Audio Controller" (Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)) and asks me to introduce the Creative Installation CD all the time so I've de-activated both so it stops asking me, as I am afraid they could conflict with AC97.
    Thanks.
