Installer DVDs for iMacs

Hello Everyone,
1. Can a pair of installer DVDs that came with one Intel iMac work on another iMac of the same model? I'm interested to know because I've just finished installing 18 of such iMacs in our office and I am considering keeping only a pair or two of the DVDs for troubleshooting purposes and distributing the rest to our technicians and others in the office to make them handy in case needed.
2. Suppose I lose or misplace the installer DVDs that came with our MacBook Pro or a MacBook, can I also use the DVDs that came with an Intel iMac on these laptops in case I need to reinstall the operating system?
Thank you
MacBook Pro, PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8) iLife -06
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iLife -06

Yes, if the discs are for the exact same model (all same vintage Intel iMacs. Will not work, however, if you have Core Duo and Core 2 Duo models.)
Obviously your site must have an appropriate site license because otherwise installing a single-user license on more than one CPU at the same time violates the license agreement.
You cannot use any version of OS X that comes with a given Intel Mac model on a different Intel model. The builds and distributed versions are different for MacBooks and MacBook Pros, for iMacs, and for Mac Pros. They are also different for Core Duo and Core 2 Duo versions of the same model.
Until Leopard is released next year there is currently no "universal" OS X installer for Intel Mac models.

also, did you know if DVD studio pro its available for sale ? if yes, where's can I buy  ?

Apple discontinued DVD Studio Pro three/four years ago. You can probably find copies from private sellers, but whether it will work without problems on OS X 10.9 I don't know. I don't know of any "professional" alternative to DVDSP for Mac, but someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.
As to iDVD, it should work under Mavericks, depending on what version of iDVD you're running. You might ask for assitance in the iDVD forum. For alternatives to iDVD, see this page for suggestions:

Call Apple, give them your computer serial number, and they will ship you disks for a small charge if disks are available. Go to the Apple Store for your country, then to the bottom of the page//Contact Us for the correct telephone number.
If that isn't what you ant, can you provide more information?

  • How can I install FL Studio (a installation dvd for Windows) on my macbook?

I've got a installation dvd (downloaded) for FL Studio but it is for Windows. I've read that you can set Windows softwares on your mac with Boot Camp. Can I do that with FL Studio 11 as well?

You need to install Windows OS first. One option is to use Bootcamp using  How to install Windows using Boot Camp - Apple Support.
You should check System Requirements for FL Studio 11, before you go further. From http://www.image-line.com/flstudio/
    FL Studio system requirements:
2Ghz Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 (or later) compatible CPU with full SSE2 support. The faster your CPU and more cores it has the more you will be able to do simultaneously. Download and test the demo!
32 or 64 Bit versions of Windows 8.0/8.1, Windows 7, Vista, XP (with service pack 3)
(or) Intel Mac with Boot Camp / Windows.
Running XP (with service pack 3), Vista or Windows 7 (in 32 or 64 Bit)
(or) Intel Mac with OS X 10.8 or 10.9 for the FL Studio Mac OS X BETA (Crossover Wrapped)
    Attention: Yosemite not supported.
1 Gb or more RAM recommended
    1 Gb free disk space
Soundcard with DirectSound drivers. ASIO/ASIO2 compatible required for audio recording (FL Studio installs with generic ASIO4ALL drivers)

  • OS 10.4 Install DVDs for iMac G5 won't load OS 10.4 on PB G4, Help!

Having recently bought a used PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz 12", it came without Install Disks. I want to reformat the Drive in the PowerBook before I use it. I tried to use the Install disks for my iMac G5 & the iMac G5 Install disk wouldn't let me Install or Reformat the PowerBook Drive. Are the Install Disks now Product specific? Is it possible to use install disks from a G4 iBook to install OS 10.4 on my G4 PowerBook?

The OEM installer discs that come with specific Mac models generally cannot be used to install OS X on other models. In particular you cannot use the G5 installer on a G4 or vice versa.

  • Installation DVD for ECC 5.0

    Hi Experts,
I downloaded the DVDs from SAPnet and I am using as a Master DVD the one with the Number:51033746_15.
During the installation I choose: My SAP 2004 and UniCode.
But the DVD seems to be wrong.
Could you please let me know the correct DVDs to install SAP ECC 5.0.
    Best regards
    HanseAtik

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply:
The DVD I am using is: ZIP 51033746_15 Installation Master 6.20/6.40 Windows Server on x64 64bit
    After I used:
    \51033746_15\Installation_Master_6.20_6.40_05_08\IM_WINDOWS_X86_64\SAPINST\NT\AMD64\SAPINST.exe
I get the question to choose between UNICODE or NON-UNICODE, so I choosed UNICODE.
After the input information the Installation started but the Installation Process is onlt 14 Steps which I wonder. It should be more.
Then I got the following error message:
    INFO[E] 2011-02-03 11:07:15
    Account group="XXXXXXXXXX
    SAP_DEV_GlobalAdmin" does not exist.
    ERROR 2011-02-03 11:07:15
FSL-01002  Unable to create account UMOECONSULTING\SAP_DEV_GlobalAdmin. Access is denied.
This error gave me the feeling that the DVD is wrong.
I have to say that in this machine we have already a SAP Solution Manager 7.0 running.
    Thanks in advance

  • External DVD for Imac

Hey quick question I say a Samsung Tru-Direct 20x External USB with lightscribe and all that for $59 at frys. Ok, that said, does the IMAC support all external DVD burners or what? and does imac support lightscribe? just curious

As long as the software in the DVD Players box supports Leopard then you should be fine. This isn't a matter of whether the Leopard supports Lightscibe it's a matter of does the manufacturer of the burner supply software that supports Leopard. I looked up this product on Samsung's web site, it appears they only support Windows on this product so I would strongly recommend against it and look for another Lightscribe drive that supports Leopard.
Lacie is the inventory of Lightscribe, I know they make at least one external drive that supports Tiger, you might want to contact them to see if it also works with Leopard, it should.

  • Replacement system DVDs for iMac 2.66 GHz

    Hi,
I have an alu iMac 2.66 GHz model, but have lost the system DVDs. I understand that if I provide the serial number to Apple, they'll issue a set of replacement discs. However I can't find any info on the support pages.
Who should I call/email about this?

    Hello Adam:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
The easiest route would probably be to visit (or call) an Apple store. Alternatively, call Applecare and explain the problem.

  • AverMedia installation problems for iMAC 10.6.7

    Hi everybody,
I just bought Avernedia plug and watch (software A820) USB device it doesn’t have a install software it is on USB device. In the description is written that product support Snow Leopard higher than 10.4, mine is 10.6.7, but when plug that USB device nothing happens. Any suggestions, please help me.

Looks like you need to download the Mac 2.2.3 Driver from AVerMedia?
    http://www.avermedia.com/avertv/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?Id=512&tab=APDriver
Then if that does't work, try AVerMedia Support.

  • Make Backup Copy of Installation DVD

Trying to make backup copy of the SL installation DVD for my current model iMac . But I can't copy to a blank DVD (4.7 GB capacity) because image is 5.74 GB. Should I use a double layer DVD- and if so, what brands will work in the iMac?

While you're at it, if you have 8-10 GB free on a hard drive, create a partition and use the Restore tab of +Disk Utility+ to copy it there, too.
Then you can boot up and run from it instead of finding the disc (and it will boot and run much faster, too!).

  • Mac mini ejects installation DVDs at startup

    Hello,
I have a Mac mini core duo 1.66 Ghz with 2 GB, Superdrive, its is running Tiger will all updates and firmware. I decided to upgrade to Leopard. The computer is booted up, I insert the installation DVD for Leopard, double click on the intall icon, asks me to click on reboot. When rebooting the DVD is ejected and it boots from the HD normally. I tried pressing C on the keyboard at boot up and the DVD still gets ejected. I tried from System prefs the disk startup as the DVD, but the same. I thought it was my Superdrive so I bought a replacement, a Pioneer, it came with a Panasonic one, and the same thing. So I have ruled out the Superdrives. I tried the Tiger installation and the same thing, it ejects it as well. I tried the DVDs on other computers and they are not ejected, the installer runs. HELP!!!!

I'm having the same problem. I have a mac mini, 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, running OS 10.3. The CD drive is a Matshita CW-8124, CD-RW/DVD-ROM. I wanted to see if I needed to upgrade firmware prior to installing leopard, but couldn't find any mention of firmware for this system on the apple site.
The cd ejects on restart. If I put in the cd and shutdown, then boot while holding down the option key, it ejects the cd prior to bringing up the boot option screen. With the boot option screen up, I install the cd, but it doesn't see it.
