Installer fails to install .pkg files
Just purchased Adobe Lightroom, and the .pkg file will not install. I get a console log message like so: "2007-08-09 16:20:58.530 Installer[416] Unable to load nib file: PagedInstaller, exiting"
I tried a safe boot, llogging in as root, but this did no good...
It installs just fine on my laptop, so it's not the disk...
Any ideas short of a OSX reinstall?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is a shot in the dark but it can't hurt anything. Locate this file:
com.apple.installer.plist It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences
Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash. Reboot.
Try the Adobe LIghtroom installer.
Also, if you haven't already tried it, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. That can fix a myriad of weird problems.

Installation Failed! The installer can't install some files in "/". Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I first received this message when trying to upgrade Pro Tools from 8.0 to 8.0.1 a prerelease for snow leopard. I tried numerous things such as repairing permissions, as well as some pro tools specific things and to no avail. Still got the same error message.
So then I tried completely uninstalling and deleting all things pro tools from my computer. After a clean uninstall and removing all traces of pro tools I proceeded to try and re-install pro tools from my pro tools 8 disk. About a minute into the process I get the EXACT same error message.
I know this issue has been going on since even before snow leopard. I really need to get pro tools installed and running again or at least be able to get the program installed. I've isolated pro tools out of the mix because its been several different installers and even an installer from a dvd. I know this is a Snow Leopard or plain OS based problem. I have repaired permissions, created a brand new user, wiped clean and started over. I don't know anything else to do. PLEASE HELP???!!!Hi Dean@mac & welcome to the forums...
Any specifics why it wants to install to / instead of Applications, as an example?
Seen these threads yet?
http://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?search=Go&q=pro+tools
One thing to help investigate the issue is to create a new user just for testing that is stock with no add-on's etc., then login there and try to install. If it works there you can bet there is something unique to your original account that is borking that install - otherwise the issue is most likely global to your system and you might be out of luck until/unless a reportedly qualified version becomes available, etc.
Good luck in any case. -
I've been trying to install the new line of Macromedia
products (version 8) after uninstalling my version 7. However, all
install files, after reading contents and extracting their cab
files are giving me the error:
"1: Failed to install ISKernel Files
Make sure you have appropriate privileges on this machine."
I get this logged in as Administrator or a regular user. I
have no problems with other programs. I can stil. run old
Macromedia installations fine (also InstallShield) with no issues.
I figured updating my InstallShield might help, so found the
handy Installshield Update guide here:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
However, right-clicking on my Macromedia v8 install files
gives me an installer version 4.0.100.1190 and no instructions are
provided in the above document for updating a version 4
InstallShield. I notice in my "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\InstallShield\Driver" directory the following subfolders: 7,
8, 9, 10, and 11.
I can't afford a fresh XP install over this, and that's
looking like my only other option (and a very ugly one at that) for
resolving it. I really just hope someone may know what is going on
and will be kind enough to spare a minute or two to help out.

I recently upgraded to a Palm T/X and after a couple of issues with synchronizing and installing files I think I've got the issues solved by changing the conduit of certain programs and upgrading to the new Palm Desktop (which I don't like as well as the old one but, Oh well!) it works OK specially installing files and that is all that matters. My recent issue is with a program I bought to back up my Palm since I no longer could do it by just inserting the backup card and restoring or backing up. This is the message I get when synchronizing: Failed to install 1 file(s) - BackupBuddyVFS.PRC - Invalid handheld file (file deleted) - Conduit Error: Invalid synchronization type (1012) - CONDERR_BAD_SYNC_TYPE.
I appreciate any help I can get, hopefully this is the last issue I have and I can start enjoying my new Palm.
Thanks!!!

This question was solved.
View Solution.I upgraded from a Palm Zire72 and I'm pretty sure I followed the installation and synch instructions but I don't recall it asking to rename the backup file but I may be wrong. I've downloaded other applications including NVBackup without any problems. I guess I don't need it now since I have NVBackup but I paid for BackupBuddy and would like to see what it does. The one thing I can tell you is that I deleted a few files that I thought I no longer needed to make some room such as a couple of games and AvantGo. Hope this gives you some ideas and can help figure it out.

10.5.2 The Installer could not install some files in "/"
I have tried to upgrade my Inter Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 to 10.5.2.
I ran the install through software update and proceeded through the 2 restarts. Once my mini restarted I checked "about my mac" to find that it still said the system was 10.5.1
I ran software update again to find that on trying to install i now get the message
Install Failed - The installer could not install some files in "/" please contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
I then tried the same with the combo updater and got the same message
I have tried to verfiy my disk or repaire permissions using disk utility for it to completely hang with the spinning beach ball and causes finder to crash.
I have also booted up with the leopard disk in and tried disk utility which says there are no problem with the disk but disk utility in leopard still hangs
Can anyone help??
Is anyone getting the same problem?
ThanksI'm having the same problem installing the Leopard Graphics Update on my Dual 2.5 G5. Installing 10.5.2 went fine, but afterwards the graphics update would fail to install, with the same error message you got. I tried both Software Update and downloading the standalone installer.
But wait, there's more! I also can no longer repair permissions using Disk Utility. I get the following message: "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit." Booting from my Leopard install CD does allow me to fix permissions.
Lastly, my second internal hard drive is now also behaving oddly, Any time I try to drag a file to the Trash, I get a dialog box telling me: "The item "(file name)" will be deleted immediately. Are you sure you want to continue?"
I've run DiskWarrior from the CD and tried fsck in Single User mode (no errors found). Nothing seems to help
I had no problem updating to 10.5.2 on my MacBook, but the update to my desktop has been a real booger. Anyone who can offer any input, I'd sure appreciate it. -

Silent installation fails registering gwab1.ocx file on W7
Silent installation is failing for GroupWise Windows Client 8.0.3 HP2 and HP3 on Windows 7 Sp1.
Problem is very similiar to KB7005755
Support | Silent installation fails registering gwab1.ocx file on Windows 7.
C++ 10 is already installed
I also installed C++ 2005 (version that comes with GroupWise Client)
Install occuring in the following order
WSE3.msi
MSXML.MSI
groupwise.msi
msiexec /i groupwise.msi transform=groupwiseNONotify.mst /passive /L*V c:\gw.log
or via ZCM 11.2 Install MSI
/i "groupwise.msi" /qb /passive
Experiencing same problem whether I run with batch file or ZCM 11.2
User is in the Administer Group. UAC is off.
Transform created using GroupWise 8 Tuner.
Install rolls back after putting GroupWise icon on desktop.

-Rename WMS.exe to WMS.exe.old to make sure it will not get installed.
-Create an application for CDO and put that application as a pre requisite for Groupwise.
In my task sequence, before groupwise is being installed, the CDO component will get installed first.
In my latest test, the installation of groupwise failed with the same error message then before.
For the installation step, I am using this command line: "WIN32\setup.exe" /s /V"/qn /le C:\Groupwise.log"
The task sequence will download the files into is cache then start the install appending the path to the exe file to the command line. All the files are present in the cache folder.
The VCRedist 2005 is installed prior to the installation by another software but I did made some test that let Groupwise installed is own VCRedist. Still an error message.
The exact error message is: Error 1904.Module C:\Program Files (x86)\Novell\Groupwise\gwab1.ocx failed to register. HRESULT -2147010895. Contact your support personnel.
I am deploying Groupwise during a task sequence on Windows 7 SP1 with IE9 and .Net 4.0 installed with some update. At the moment groupwise is installed as the second software.
The version being installed is gw8.0.3HP3_client_win_multi.
When installing the previous version, using the same exact task sequence, there is no error and the installation is done.
I did validate that the Windows NT Messaging was not installed.
If I can provide any othe information please let me know.

I lost my version of iTunes and attempted to re-install via free download off of Apple.com. Unfortunately, regardless of what version I attempt to install, my Installer will not run .pkg or .mpkg files. It bounces, then disappears without any results.
I do not have the Tiger disk - as my father gave me this computer a few years ago without it (as it was his old computer).
I am absolutely distraught without my iTunes and do not know what to do to rectify the situation with my Installer.
Can anyone help me please???Try moving:
Home (or your user name) > Library > Preferences > com.apple.installer.plist
to the desktop and restart your computer. This file saves the settings for that service and may be come corrupt. Removing it from the Preferences folder will result in a new file being created with default settings. If this helps you can trash the file but you may need to reset other things covered by that preference. If it doesn't help you can replace the newly created file with the old one and restart to regain the old settings.
If that doesn't work you will probably have to copy Installer from your backup drive. You absolutely must have a backup, especially if you are going to try to survive without the Tiger discs (which are, strictly speaking, a legal requirement if you want to run Tiger).
