Installer has encountered an unexpected ..... 2803

I have used the install on several machines with no issues using command line windows installer switches (/passive /qr /norestart). However, I have a small group of machines in a location that consistently get an error twice during installation. It occurs both times where the install will say it is validating. If you just click ok to the error, it continues on, gets the same error again, continues on and actually updates the product to 7.1.3. If you cancel, it cancels and leaves the product at the previous version. The exact error is in a window titled QuickTime for Windows and the body of the error states; "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem wiht this package. The error code is 2803." You get an OK button as well. These machines use the same install package that everyone else uses, but they are all in one location and consistently fail with the above error. Noone else can duplicate the error. If the previous version is uninstalled (ranges from 6.3 to 7.1), then the installation works fine. Why does this only occur at this location and no where else? Can it be fixed? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt it is a virus. We have all kinds of protection in that realm. And yes, we have close to 20,000 workstations. We are getting it on several machines here. Our Corp. Comm. guys have some agreement that states we can use the free player in our environmnet. However, we are having such issues with how the installer changes with every update. Each time an update is released, something changes and we find multiple issues in trying to deploy the updated version. This time, we are getting to a point where it is not worth attempting to use this if we have to go through these issues each time. We can't find anyone to answer issues we have and the errors we get this time we can't even find valuable information by Googling either. They keep saying what do you expect for the free version. Well... Media Player is free, and any issues I have with it, I can get resolved through our MS agreement. Our Corp. Comm. guys buy Apple machines and servers, but yet that apparently isn't enough to get any type of support on their free products. It will soon come time for me to make the decision of dropping this product and moving to Media Player or something else. It is a shame that Apple can't help.

    Hi hongkongpom,
Just wanted to say that after posting the problem, I had a chat with an iTunes' Tech Support, her name is Rebekah.  My problem was resolved after that.  Will list the chat history below in hopes that it may help you as well.
    Good luck!

    Duration: 81 minutes 28 seconds
    Rebekah:
Welcome to AppleCare chat support. Please give me a moment to look over your information.
    Rebekah:
Hi, Samia! My name is Rebekah. If we get disconnected, please chat us back. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/contactEnter the case number from the initial email we sent you. This gives the next advisor you chat with immediate access to your case history.
    Rebekah:
Could you please confirm your serial number? I want to be sure we provide the best service possible for you, Samia!
    SAMIA:
    Sure, it's 8L8395UY2C5
    SAMIA:
    My problem is with iTunes.
    Rebekah:
Thanks for that confirmation. Just a heads up, this is iOS Tech Support. We do support iPod touches, iPads, and iPhones, but not the iPod classic. But no worries! I can get you in touch with a phone Advisor who can get you in touch with the department that specializes in iPod classics and would be able to better assist you. Would that be OK?
    SAMIA:
I wasn't able to install the new version of iTunes (version 11.1.1). The installation keeps failing. The they suggested the I install it manually and that failed too. I will attach the message I received.
    SAMIA:
    I don't have a problem with iPod.
    SAMIA:
    Just iTunes
    Rebekah:
No problem! We can certainly troubleshoot iTunes as much as possible. It may come to the point that you may have to transferred, but we can do as much as possible during this chat!
    Rebekah:
Thanks for the screenshot. It is a bit small so I am unable to fully see the message that you are receiving. What is the error message you are receiving?
    SAMIA:
This is the message I received in case you weren't able to open the attachment: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2324."
    Rebekah:
    Thanks for that info!
    SAMIA:
    Pleasure!
    Rebekah:
What version of Windows (XP, Vista, 7) do you have?
    SAMIA:
    Windows 7
    SAMIA:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Rebekah:
Thanks for that confirmation. I do apologize for the delay, Samia. I am researching this error code now. You mentioned trying to install iTunes manually. To be sure I am on the same page, what steps did you take to do that?
    SAMIA:
Well when the indsatalltion failed I was given instructions to select Download Only from Tools and then install manually. When I did it, I window popped up with the following items: - AppleApplicationSupport
    SAMIA:
    - AppleMobileDeviceSupport64
    SAMIA:
    - Bonjour64
    SAMIA:
    iTunes64
    SAMIA:
    SetupAdmin
    SAMIA:
I selected Repair in all of them instead of Remove and all worked but iTunes64
    SAMIA:
That's when I received the message that I sent you earlier.
    SAMIA:
By the way, this is the fir st time something like this occured. I never had problems with installation before.
    Rebekah:
I completely understand what you're saying. Since that Repair did not resolve the issue, our best option is to uninstall iTunes and its components and redownload it. To do this, we will follow the steps in this article: Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    Rebekah:
First, we will want to quit iTunes and/or Apple Software Update if those are open at this time.
    SAMIA:
Rebekah, the instructions you gave says, "For Windows XP, follow these steps to remove and reinstall iTunes and other software components for Windows XP."
    SAMIA:
    I closed all applications
    SAMIA:
Also, my iTunes doesn't open anymore after the new failed installation.
    Rebekah:
The section that says "For Windows XP…" is in case we opened up the wrong article, as we have the one for Windows Vista, 7, or 8. There is a link to click ("these steps") in those directions that would take us to the article for uninstalling on a Windows XP.
    Rebekah:
So no worries! We have the right article!
    Rebekah:
On the computer, we will want to click on Start > Control Panel. In Control Panel, we will click the "Uninstall a program" link.
    SAMIA:
I thought so after doing a little exploration.
    SAMIA:
    done
    Rebekah:
Alright, we'll want to select iTunes from the list of currently installed programs. Then we will click Uninstall. When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, let's click Yes.
    Rebekah:
After the uninstallation is complete, we don't want to restart your computer if you're prompted.
    SAMIA:
    Done
    Rebekah:
Then if you see other iTunes entries on the list, we'll want to remove them the same way.
    Rebekah:
Then we will remove all instances of Apple Software Update the same way you removed iTunes.
    SAMIA:
Okay, but do I have to remoce iCloud as well?
    SAMIA:
Rebekah, I received the same error message again when uninstalling
    Rebekah:
We actually do not need to remove iCloud. After the Apple Software Update, we will want to remove all instances of Apple Mobile Device Support
    Rebekah:
How strange! Are you able to click past that and allow the process to continue or has it stopped it completely?
    SAMIA:
I am unable to uninstall iTunes either
    SAMIA:
    Stopped completely
    SAMIA:
    I treied clicking Repair
    Rebekah:
Alright, after trying the Repair option, let's see if it will allow us to continue uninstalling or not.
    SAMIA:
I tried that but unfortunately, it isn't working. I still get that same message with error code 2324.
    Rebekah:
This error code is not something that I am finding in my sources, Samia. So there is a chance that it is being caused with the Windows computer itself. However, I did find a link that may be able to help with uninstalling iTunes from Windows' support site: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
    SAMIA:
Rebekah, you're a genius! It worked! iTunes is no longer there. What next?
    Rebekah:
    Awesome! I'm glad that worked!
    Rebekah:
To be sure I am on the same page, what was the last component we uninstalled?
    SAMIA:
    iTunes
    SAMIA:
Shall I remove the Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update
    Rebekah:
That is correct! However, we do want to uninstall it in the order I mentioned above. So Apple Software Update first, Apple Mobile Device Support next, and then Apple Mobile Device Support.
    SAMIA:
Got it, but is the second one to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support OR Apple pplication Support?
    Rebekah:
The second one is Apple Mobile Device Support.
    Rebekah:
The Application Support will be the last component we uninstall.
    SAMIA:
    Thanks! I'm on it.
    SAMIA:
Done! ll 3 are gone, well 4 with iTunes. Now what?
    Rebekah:
Awesome! Also, I just noticed that I accidentally typed Apple Mobile Device Support twice, I do apologize for any confusion! Now we will remove all instances of Bonjour and then remove all instances of Apple Application Support.
    SAMIA:
There was only 1 instance with Bonjour. I don't know what the instances are for Apple Application Support
    Rebekah:
Yes, Bonjour is often only listed once. Is the Apple Application Support listed at all?
    SAMIA:
    No
    SAMIA:
    Since I removed it
    Rebekah:
Oh, perfect! If it was removed, we should be set!
    Rebekah:
We have removed iTunes and its components now! From here, our next step is to restart the computer. Then once you reboot, you can redownload iTunes from apple.com/itunes
    Rebekah:
That should allow you to download iTunes!
    SAMIA:
Shall I downloaad the latest vesion?
    Rebekah:
You will want to first restart the computer as shown in the article. That will ensure that this process goes smoothly and that everything was removed correctly! Then you can try downloading iTunes again.
    SAMIA:
    Okay, thanks Rebekah!
    Rebekah:
You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help! And of course if you have any issue after the reboot and download, you can always chat us back, as chat is open 24 hours! You will just need to give your case number and the next Advisor would have all my notes!
    SAMIA:
Thanks again for all your help, for I couldn't have managed with out it. Have a nice day!
    Rebekah:
You're very welcome! I know how important iTunes is and I'm glad we could get you on a path to resolution!
    Rebekah:
I hope you have a lovely day!
    Rebekah:
It's been a pleasure speaking with you! Thanks for chatting with us Samia. If you don't have any more questions, select End Chat from the upper left corner of the chat window.
    SAMIA:
    Will do, thanks.

I can't install itunes.  I get an error code 2894 & a message that states the installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

Are you able to uninstall iTunes and QuickTime?
You might have to search for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, which would allow you to remove some applications that you can't from Control Panel.
Also, take a look at this Apple document -> Trouble installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows.

  • I can't install wmpfirefoxplugin at Firefox 4, It show "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing theis package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755.

Although you're getting a different error message, perhaps try the procedure from the following user tip:

  • I get this error when I try to install iTunes 10.7: "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indocate a problem with this package. The error code is 2203."

I am running Windows 7 64bit. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and ran the installer. This message pops up, I click OK and the installation continues. Then, when I try to launch iTunes I get this: "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)". I have also received this error message even when the installation hasn't had any problems. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, repaired my .net framework,  uninstalled all components following the steps in Article: HT1923 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 all to no avail. It still won't run. It was working perfectly before I updated it to 10.7. After that it all went to crap. I even tried installing the previous version and still get this error message. Any suggestions?

Okay ... so it's not one of the cases of bodged up ACLs on the Apple folder in Common Files. (That's been underlying a few of the recalcitrant E7W5s.
Just in case, let's try the fixit from the following document:
Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled

  • The device has encountered an unexpected error. Installation error: application verification failed

the device has encountered an unexpected error. Installation error: application verification failed
I have been receiving this message over and over again when trying to publish my iOS app for the app store (I use Flash cc AIR 3.9.1.1080 for iOS and my settings are: "device testing in interpreter mode", as my app uses several swfs).
I have done everything from scratch, as recommended on other sections of the forums: new app ID from my apple developer account, new Distribution Certificates, new Distribution Provisioning Profiles and nothing works.
I can install my app on my iPad if I use the development Certificate and Provisioning Profile and everything seems OK. But as soon as I use the Distribution Certificate and Provisioning Profile get the same message:
the device has encountered an unexpected error. Installation error: application verification failed
I have done everything from the beggining over and over and nothing works. Am I the only one having this issue on Flash cc???

    Hi Daniel:
I´m far from being an expert on Xcode (or any code) but this is what I did and it worked:
    - On Xcode go to Preferences > Accounts > select your App Developer Account, then click "view details" on the lower right corner.
    - There you can see which of your "Signing Identities" (Certificates) are "Valid". You should have at least one for Development and one for Distribution.
    - Below that window there are two icons which you can use to add, export or revoke a "Signing Identitie" (Certificate).
    - Choose the one you want to use (Develop. or Distrib.), export it to the folder of the app you are working on and name it in such a way you can relate it to your app. Before knowing this I was exporting them using Keychain Access and I wasn´t naming them to differentiate each one properly.
    - On your Apple Developer account create the Provisioning Profile for your app. I deleted any App IDs or Prov. Profs. which were useless.
    - Then on my Apple Developer account I generated a Development Prov. Prof. to install and test my app on my iPad. All went fine.
    - Then an Ad Hoc Prov. Prof. again to install and test my app on my iPad. All went fine.
    - Then I generated the App Store Prov. Prof. and I was able to install the app on my device without the upsetting error.
    - Then I uploaded the app to iTunes Connect with no problem.
These link was useful for me: https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/technotes/tn2318/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/D TS40013777-CH1-TNTAG0
You can also search for "Certificates" and "Provisioning" on Xcode help.
    Good luck!

  • AME CC 2014: "Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an unexpected error and cannot continue."

Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 on MacPro "mid-2012" (MacPro5,1) running OSX 10.9.3 and getting this error when trying to launch Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014:
    Adobe Media Encoder Error
Adobe Media Encoder has encountered an unexpected error and cannot continue.
Have uninstalled, reinstalled.  Checked and fixed permissions numerous times.  Tried removing all plugins and that didn't fix.  Also tried editing the text listings within the .app for OpenGL and CUDA to remove all cards listed - that didn't fix anything either.
At this point it's uninstalled and "hopefully" everything will point to CC (non-2014 version).  Adobe Media Encoder CC works fine.  Adobe Media Encoder CS6 works fine.
Cannot find any other reports of this issue.

Progress in trying to fix.  This workaround was NOT successful on previous attempts, but now appears to be working.  Seems like the trick was to have AME CC 2014 started and open BEFORE doing any of this?  As always, make sure all of your permissions are set properly - had done that numerous times previously.  My issue was NOT directly permission related.
    Navigate to the following folder:
You may see a file SHORTCUT that is invalid called "Presets":
    Remove/delete this file.  It's a broken shortcut.
Move a folder of .EPR files into the "8.0" folder.  Call it anything except "Presets".  Go to AME CC 2014 and quit.  (I was greeted with another crash message.)
Open AME CC 2014 again.  Your presets will not be loaded yet, but you should see an XML file that was created in your new folder like this:
    Delete this file.
You should see a new folder also created by AME called "Presets".  Move your .EPR files into this folder and delete the original folder.  Quit AME CC 2014.  (I was greeted with ANOTHER crash message.)
Open AME CC 2014.  Your preset files should be there at the top under the preset browser:
Probably a good idea to keep a copy of those .EPR files elsewhere

  • ITunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I accidentally removed apple mobile device support so now I can't charge my ipod touch on my computer. I uninstalled itunes and tried reinstalling the latest one and got the message:
iTunes Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I tried removing temporary internet files, deleting all itunes/quicktime related files from registry, all related folders, setups, and pretty much anything related to it. I try reinstalling different versions but that message still appears. The installing bar goes to a different percentage each time. The farthest one went to about 90%
Does anyone know a solution? I had to resort to buying an AC adapter but it's inconvenient for me.

i found a way around the setup problem.. i created a new account on windows and tried to download and when it wouldnt work i looked at the tech part of the error report.. anyway there were 2 files with TEMP in it so i went to the temp folder and there was a weird folder with all random letters and numbers so after i deleted that the setup would work on the next account.. however on my old account it still wont download =/ but this is a good fix for now

  • Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error.....

So I just got the 3G iPhone and now I get that message pretty much every time i try to run an App(my apps) on the iPhone. If I plug in my original it works fine, plug in the new one and I get this messsage. I've tried restarting the device and the computer with no luck. Any ideas?

Guys, ths solution is to have a hacked phone and goto the folder:
    /Private/var/mobile/Media/PublicStaging/
delete all the crap in there...these are copies of your deployed apps and they screw things up...
Use mobilefinder to delete the files, or ssh, or afp......whatever you choose just know that some apps like the accelerometergraph sample code STILL give me the error and can't be deployed.
I found this info at this guys web blog, he dumped the file system and then got the error and redumped the filesystem to scan for changes.....give him the credit I am just spreading the word.

  • Error: Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE800003A)

Hi all, I am absolutely new to iPhone development, so i'm sure this is a simple error. I've already done a search for this problem, but haven't understood the answer yet.
Before i got to to writing my first app, i wanted to try installing a bit of sample code from the apple site, so i downloaded ' aurioTouch from the link below, then put it in a new folder.
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/navigation/SampleCode.html
The project launches fine in xcode, but when i click 'Build & Run'...it seems fine right up to the point it transfers it onto my actual iphone (latest non beta version) & I get this error.
Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE800003A) during the install phase: Verifying application : Try disconnecting and powering off the device; then power the device on and reconnect it.
What am i doing wrong? Dooes my iPhone need to somehow be 'prepared' for accepting apps? Is there something wrong with the code.
Any help would be gratefully received ! If i can get past this step..I can move on..
    Cheers
    Ru

Surely it must be something simple?
Quick answer: Your environment simply isn't configured properly. You don't have the digital certificates in place to access your device for what you're trying to do.
The entire process includes many mandatory elements. Users can't short-cut it and they can't jump in randomly. You'll need to spend time getting up to speed first, or run the risk of having many more questions such as you've already encountered. Don't get me wrong...we all have questions. But the docs exist to cover basics which in most cases are an assumed part of the questioner's background - hopefully. After you've invested your time, if you're still confused, please speak up.
