Installer puts program in ProgramFilesFolder

Hello,
First off, I'm running LabVIEW 7.0.  My installer keeps putting my applications into a folder (that it creates) called "ProgramFilesFolder" and not the pre-existing "Program Files" folder.  When I build the app, the Installer Settings tab shows, under Default Installation Directory, "Program Files Directory".  There is nothing else on the list that looks anything like Program Files, so I would assume this is the correct setting.  Has anyone seen this, and if so, how do I get it to install in the correct folder?
Thanks.

After a long phone call with a very patient engineer at National Instruments, the problem has been solved.  One of my registry keys, " HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem, Entry:NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation was set to 1 when it should have been 0.  The engineer knew almost immediately what to do, but he waited patiently on the line while paranoid (or should I say experienced) me had to make a backup of my registry before I would change this one entry.  Since this was a recent development, the engineer at NI thought that perhaps either a recent program install, or a windows update changed the state of the key.
Thanks for your suggestions, and thanks to David at NI for the solution.

  • Where is the best place to put programs to start on X/Openbox startup?

    Hi,
There are several places to put programs to startup when you start X or a WM.  I'm using Openbox and presently have placed these into my .xinitrc file, but I'm not sure this really the best place.  Openbox has a autostart file, which sorta looks like a better bet.
    Any suggestions would be great.
    Thanks,
    Jon

Hadn't heard of consolekit; it's not clear to me from looking at their website what it's supposed to be offering? Maybe after it matures more, the documentation will improve, and all will become clear.
When I used Openbox, I just launched everything such as conky from the Openbox autostart file. I guess if you had a weird set up such as some of your Openbox configs sitting on unmounted partitions, their mount commands would go in .xinitrc, otherwise autostart.sh seems better.
Just IMO of course, do what you want on your own machine :-)

  • Wireless printer is setup, but the HP Installer Setup program is in a never-ending loop

Wireless printer is setup (HP Officejet 4500), but the HP Installer Setup program is in a never-ending loop.  It says "Fatal error during installation." and keeps trying to uninstall/reinstall/ etc etc etc.  Printer is setup and runs fine, just need to get rid of this crazy loop - any guidance?

    Which OS is installed?
I recommend that you uninstall the printer software from the HP folder in start-->All Programs -->HP --> uninstall software
After the uninstall is completed and your system restarted install and configure the printer again.

    Repair your Apple Software Update:
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

  • Windows installer puts files in system32

Some articles (about tomcat for example) speak about the importance of the java_home variable.
Setting it to the installation root directory enables you to choose which vm use.
    Actually windows installer ver. 6 update 4 puts 4 files in system32 directory: java.exe, javaw.exe, javaws.exe, java.cpl.
This means that each installation is not 'self-contained' in his directory (C:\program files\java\jdk...) and there is a 'default' version "system-wide".
Moreover, the installer does not set any java_home variable.
The question is: is this approach based on java_home specific to the integration with tomcat or is it a java standard but it's left to the user?

Installing a JRE place the files you mentioned in the system32 directory - so, the last installed JRE's files overwrite any copies placed by earlier installs. If you delete these files, then [usually] you can't run java by typing just "java"
Installing the JDK doesn't place files in the system32 directory.
The computer's PATH environment variable [usually] lists the system32 directory before any other directory that contains these files, so they're the ones executed. If you change the PATH so that some other directory [if any] that contains these java files is listed before system32, then the other directory's files will be found first and executed.
In other words, Java doesn't control which are executed, your computer's os does.

  • Adobe Reader X 10.1.1.33 Installer Puts Gibberish In Windows Registry

    Operating system: Windows 7 x64 SP1.
The Adobe Reader X version 10.1.1.33 Installer creates sixteen values in your Windows Registry that are all gibberish.
Take a look at the values created under the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\P roducts\68AB67CA7DA73301B744AA0100000010\Features
How does all this incorrect data affect the running of Adobe Reader?
This invalid data does cause a problem with a program I use to examine the Windows registry. Upon further examination the data in the "Help" value contains and invalid character in position 82 (0x0002).
Can anybody from Adobe tell me when this bug might be fixed?

The program I was using, which alerted me to the problem, takes a snapshot of the registry and creates an .XML file. When this file is opened in Internet Explorer 9 it only displays a blank page instead of a tree view of the registry. Using the developement tools, that come with IE9, I was able to determine that the reason it displays a blank page was that it halts when it comes to an invalid data character in the .XML file. I then opened regedit and examined the "Help" data value in the registry to see if the 0x0002 character was actually in there, and it was.
The whole point of my post is not the invalid character in the registry but all the junk that is put there by the Adobe Reader installer.
Can somebody from Adobe please comment as to why your installer is putting what appears to be alot of junk into the Windows Registry?
    thanks,

  • Did DW CS3 installer put this crap on my system???

A bit after installing DW CS3, my firewall popped an alert
that 'mdnsresponder.exe' tries to establish a connection to
    something.
I was intrigued and did a quick search to find the following:
    1. A new folder C:\Program Files\Bonjour, containing the
above mentioned mdnsresponder.exe and some .dll
I was pretty sure I never installed this, but to be 100% sure
I checked an image I created 3 days ago - there was no such folder.
I found that mdnsresponder.exe "is a process associated with
"Bonjour for Windows" software. It is used by ITunes for music
    sharing."
    2. .. and here comes the big surprise,
a service ???? set to start automatically ??!!!!?? , which
launches this file at every startup. The service has some idiotic
    name like ##Id_String1.6844F930........................##.
    Indeed I disabled it.
As DW CS3 is the only software I installed in the last month,
I'm pretty sure it put this crap on my system - is it true?
    Anyone has something similar?
It is completely unacceptable, least to say, a program we pay
big bucks for to silently install crapware, adware and possibly
spyware on user systems, without any prompt or option to skip the
    installation!
What comes next - a porn dialer ?

  • AIR 3 Sidecar Installs but Program does not run

    Hi there AIR Heads!
After an install of both AIR 3 and our AIR program am getting an AIR error window: "This installation of this application is corrupted."
Trying to figure out issue through the installer log.
Have doen several reinstalls with updated files, get same error window each time.
Looking at Console system.log the only error message I see is this:
CFPropertyListCreateFromXMLData(): Old-style plist parser: missing semicolon in dictionary.
Any ideas if this is causing the issue?
Thanks for any help on this,

    Hi Robert,
I apologize for the delayed response.  If you're still running into this issue could you try the following steps, they've helped others with this error in the past.
    Delete the following folders:
    [user]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR
    [user]/Library/Caches
Also removed any references to the app, (original name & renamed), in:
    [user]/Library/Preferences
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • J2sdk installation problem-Program too big to fit in memory

I downloaded the J2SDK software from sun website. The file name is
    j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe.
The file size matches with the one specified in the website.
However I am unable to install the package either from 'my computer' or from dos.I have WIN 2000 as my OS.
I get the following error: in dos

Program too big to fit in memoryThis error is complaining about memory, not disk space. But I suspect that the problem is disk space. This is copied from the Window 32-bit installation instructions:
A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 32 megabytes of physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. Forty-eight megabytes of RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in product. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.
You should have 120 megabytes of free disk space before attempting to install the Java 2 SDK software.

  • Installation problem: Program too big to fit in memory

I have downloaded the installation file several times now and tried to run the executable on an NT 4 SP 5, a W2K, and a Win98 system, and all I ever get is "Program too big to fit in memory". I have looked at the byte count, and it's exactly the same as specified on the download page. What could be wrong?
    TIA,
    Stefan

  • After Installing - Cannot Complete Installs for Programs

I installed Snow Leopard and it seemed to be running fine after I granted myself Admin access again.
However, I tried running the installs for multiple programs including a security update to the OS, iLife and iWork - the installs get to "Preparing Installation" and freeze.
I have tried leaving some of these installs up for up to 48 hours and there is no progress.
Yahoo Messenger also freezes on sign in with a similar problem.
How do I fix this so that I may use Yahoo Messenger and run installs again?

I suggest you might try this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
If this doesn't help any, then reinstall SL.
To upgrade iLife and iWork you will have to purchase the '09 versions. There is no free upgrade path from '08 versions.

  • Am I able to put programs like Adobe Photoshop Lightroom onto an iPad?

I am looking to upgrade my computer to an iPad and I want it to have Adobe Lightroom 4 on it. I would also like to put other things like Diablo on it. Is that a possibility?

Windows and Mac OS X programs cannot run on iOS (ipad). Many applications have corresponding apps in the spp store, but not all, and some have more limited functionality.iOS apps do tend to be less expensive than their Windows/OS X counterparts.
If you work extensively with Lightroom, you may not be satified with an iPad, but for the sake of research, look into iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop Touch, as well as the plethera of image and photo mangement/manipulation tools available (there are dozens).

  • Where is the Flash program available - not the installer - the program?

For a week now, when trying to install Flash, a veritible necxessity these days like it or not, the program that I downbload that downloads the installler that will download and install Flash times-out on this computer Vista 64, a Vista 32, a Windoze 7, and a XP machine. I read and followed all oif the stuyff that blames the client. Now, will Adobe fix their end?
Or, provide a linlk to the actuall file that is the Flash program, not a downloader to download a installer to download the Flash program! Obviously, when Adobe times-out on a brand new fresh install of Vista 64, and new computer with 7 - it is not likely the client.
Oh yes, I had my ISP check, and the modem and router, and plugged directly in to mode bypassing router. Same time-out and, same stupid 'Here is why it's your fault client' messages.
Why not let some download sites, like Cnet, or Brothersoft or others store it there where can get it?
Half the work I do needs my browser to use flash. Maybe renaming the insaller to adobe_flop_version26445375483445389209.exe might help?
A good program doesn't need to be upgraded, updated or foxed once or twice a week.
I hope Googoyle can find a Flash alternative.

Posted about a dozen times every day in this forum; here is the link to the offline installers http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header

  • How do I resolve installation of programs not compatible with OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)?

Is there anyway to resolve this incompatibility without having to downgrade my OS to a 10.6 (or lower) or replacing my CD (containing the incompatible program)?

If your machine already had Snow Leopard before and you have space space available at the bottom of your boot hard drive (SSD if you have enough space) and you have the 10.6 installer disks, then you can create a Snow Leopard partition on the machine, provided BootCamp/Windows hasn't taken it yet.
If you don't have the 10.6 disks, then you can research this user tip about getting the correct 10.6 disks and if the 10.6 white ones will work for you or not.
How to reformat a used Mac
1: First backup your users file and make a bootable clone of your present OS X drive. This is bootable and you can use it to repair, erase and reverse clone if something messes up.
    Most commonly used backup methods
2: Open Disk Utility click on your boot drive and the partition tab. Attempt to create a second partition below your main OS X one and notice the size it will allow, if it's not good enough for your needs (like you need more of the available free space) then exit without applying the change.
    See this user tip:
BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."
How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
3: If you have a hard drive, use the Disk Utility > Erase Free Space > Zero on the boot drive and wait for it to complete, it will map off any bad sectors that will prevent formatting or installing of OS X Snow Leopard.
4: Once you have created a second partition below your first one (named:  Snow Kitty), you want to change it's format to OS X Extended Journaled and apply.
5: Next is the fun part, you follow these instructions below to install Snow Leopard (+ Rosetta for PPC apps), but you apply them to the Snow Kitty partition and you DON'T erase the entire drive or you will lose Mountain Lion partitions as well etc.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
6: Optionally you apply the software tweaks and such here to maximize Snow Leopard performance
    For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
7: Oh, to boot into Snow Leopard or  Lion you hold the option/alt key down for Startup Manager and select which one you want.
If your always in Snow Leopard or the other Lion, you can set either as a Startup Disk in System Preferences and it will tell the firmware which one to boot from so no need to hold the option key down.
Now there is a hack over at MacRumors that will run a virtual machine of Snow Leopard in later OS X versions.
This sort of explains virtual machines and what they do.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
Hope that works for you here's a free Cs2 for Snow Leopard.
