Installer unexpected quit

Everytime I try to install any software, the Installer unexpectedly quits on me !
I have Mac OS X 10.5.8(9L30) and the Process that is quitting according to the report is Installer [349]
Anyone have any idea what I can do here ? I'd like to get up to speed on the latest iTunes and the latest Security patch ..
Cheers!

Then, the issue's system-wide and an Archive & Install, saving user and network settings, is in order, followed by reinstalling the 10.5.8 COMBO update. Details in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545

  • Game Installer Unexpectedly Quits...WHY????

I just bought a brand new Mac game (Indiana Jones, Emperor's Tomb). I have the brand new 20" iMac with 2 gig of RAM; system's running fine with power to spare. But the **** game installer has quit 7 times in a row after I type in the serial # (I checked it closely).
So far all I have is a game that I can't play...can anyone help me?
Thank you so much in advance

The installer won't run in 10.4. Try here:

  • Itunes 10.6.3 installer " unexpectedly quit on PPC OSX 10.5.8 "

    Hello
I'm in a mess.I upgraded my Ipod Touch 4g to IOS 6 and now have to upgrade Itunes to Ver 10.6.3. The problem is that when I try to install it  the installer quits a couple of seconds after clicking the  install PKG. I've repaired permissions and am admin to  my late 2005 2.5 gig quad G5. Any help would be apprecieated
    Thank you

Since your post is pretty much the first one of this kind I have seen in several months, and not for the same version, nor with the same solution, I think you are a bit hasty blaming Apple. It's like my blaming Toyota for needing to replace the muffler on my car.  Each computer is unique in its combination of software and use history and clearly something has happened with yours that put it into a bad condition.  The guaranteed easy solution would, of course, have been to erase your hard drive, reinstall the operating system, then upgrade iTunes.

  • Update Installer Unexpectedly Quits

What would cause a downloaded MAX OS X 10.2.8 Cobined Upgrade to repeatedly crash ?
I have approximately 14 G free space on my second internal hardrive. I have recently installed OS 10 .2 after de-fragmenting my second hard drive.
I have only now started to use OS X ( becuase I use OS 9.1 software ) but my new printer requires 10.2.8 !
    Any help please ?
G4 Dual Processor   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   also running OS 9.1

    Try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X. Note that Disk Warrior will not work on Intel Macs.
If the drive is verified as OK you can then install the combo update. If you downloaded the update via dial up, then you may have a corrupted file. You should download using a broadband connection.

  • Installer Unexpectedly Quits

    Hi
I was on disk 4 of an 11 disk sample library installation when the installer decided to pack up for the day. Is it a case of going back to the beginning or is there a way of continuing the installation from where it left off? Any help appreciated.
    Colin

Without any information on what program, there's no way anyone can respond. What does the software developer say?

  • Network Installer has quit due to an unexpected error. (exit code 133)

Hi guys. Our school just purchased some new 1.83 Intel Mac minis, and I'm trying to image them using our Powermac (running server 10.4.9). The minis won't boot from the net install image though, the spinning wheel just spins under the grey apple icon.
If I boot in verbose mode I get this error:
The Network Installer has quit due to an unexpected error. (exit code 133)
    Please restart your computer.
The net image was created using one of the mac mini's as the master (i.e. off their installation discs + a few extra programs). I've used this process with all our other ppc macs and had no troubles.
    Any ideas?

I'm getting the same error in verbose mode. I've made an image from an Intel iMac. My server, though, an Xserve, is running 10.4.8. I think the only difference (and I've gotten past images to work fine) is that I updated the Intel iMac to 10.4.9 in the new image.
What's going on? I've made close to 5 images and each one, the same error.

  • Installer Authentication error " ... installer has unexpectedly quit"

When I try to install various items I get the message "The application installer has unexpectedly quit." This happens for any application I try to install, including when I try to do a software update. It happens exactly after I type my adminstrator password in the Authenticate screen and click OK. It happens whether I am downloading from the Web, or trying to install from a CD/DVD. My computer is a Lombard PB 400, 256 ram, OS 10.2.8.
The problem began when I tried to install a new version of iTunes and the computer froze in the middle of the install. It also happens when I try to update anything through Software Updater, try to install from an optical drive, and I'm thinking it will happen anywhere that I have an installation authentication requirement. I really don't want to reinstall my whole system and do all the updates, so if anyone knows something else I can try, or can help me pinpoint the problem, I would appreciate it.
Thinking the problem was specific to iTunes I first tried solutions specific to that application, then I broadened my approach to system-wide troubleshooting. I continue to get the error. I have:
    1) Downloaded another copy of the iTunes install package
    2) Deleted everything iTunes from my computer
    3) Put the System>Library>Caches>(something software) folder in the trash and restarted the computer. I took it back out and put it back, but when I restarted it was gone, and I forget the original name of the folder.
    4) Repaired disk permissions started from the HD
    5) Restarted from the original system install disk, repaired disk and repaired permissions
    6) Created and tested a new user with admin permissions
    7) Looked at the crash log and this is the first part of what I got (the rest is PPC thread state):

    Thanks.
I should have mentioned that I have already done the Resolving Permissions as outline on Apple Support pages, but, I went ahead and did the complete sequence as shown on Dr. Smokes.
I decided to stop beating a dead horse and did an Erase and Install of 10.2 again since I did not have anything on there yet. So far, everything is working perfectly. I am doing the Software Updates called for one by one to see if any of those caused the problem.
The only thing I did other than doing all of the updates after the install was to install OS 9.2 for my Classic Environment software and I also installed an HP PSC 1315v All-In-One scanner/printer. I cannot imagine that would have done anything.
I did have some strange issues with Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego and The Star Fleet Technical manual so I may stay away from them unless I start in OS 9 if none of the other updates cause any issues.
Thanks. BTW, How should I rate your answer? I know that it did not solve my problem, but, it is likely that something else I did whacked something.
I'll update when I know more.

  • Help fast!! InDesign unexpectedly quits after installation

I had the Creative Suite 3 on my computer. Was not useable, I think because it's already been used on another computer or something. Anyway, I think I installed it. I then went to install Creative Suite 2. Photoshop and Illustrator open and work fine. The only problem is InDesign unexpectedly quits before it even completely opens the program. What do I do?? Do I need to uninstall the whole thing or can I just reinstall InDesign? If you can help, please be specific as I don't know much on the technical side of things. Thanks in advance!

    >"initializing the SIG"
    In this case, try this:
    1. Go to this folder in the Finder: [Your Boot Hard Drive]/Library/Application Support/
    2. Click on the "SING" folder within that folder.
    3. Choose the Finder's "File > Get Info" menu command (or hit CMD-i) to bring up the Info window for the SING folder.
Check what the window shows under "Sharing & Permissions" If yours is an administrative account, make sure that the "admin" group has "Read & Write" permissions. If yours is a non-admin account, you'll need to make sure that the "everyone" section has Read & Write permissions.
To change permissions, click the little lock icon in the lower right corner of the window. You will be asked to supply an administrative user name and password. Once you do that, the lock icon will open, and the previously-disabled permissions controls will be enabled. Select the popup you need to change, change it to "Read & Write," and (very importantly) then click on the gear icon button on the bottom of the window next to the "+" and "-" buttons, and select "Apply to Enclosed Items."
Does that allow ID to launch?

  • Mail unexpectedly quits following electrical outage/improper shutdown

Following a brief electrical outage in which my iMac improperly shutdown, Mail has repeatedly crashed. The crash seems to happen immediately following MobileMe synchronization.
After the initial crash, I ran Disk Utility to repair permissions and re-started the computer. The crashes -- described by error message as "Mail unexpectedly Quit"--continue to occur.
I appreciate any suggestions to solve this problem.

Did you use Disk Utility to repair the drive or just permissions? The latter is of no use but the former may be especially after an abnormal shutdown.
You may find other problems as well when something like this happens. Abnormal shutdowns can cause disk corruption. At the extreme if can cause a hard drive to fail. To start see the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now it's not likely the above will solve the problem. The most likely solution is to reinstall OS X since you don't know what else may have been corrupted by the abnormal shutdown. If you have a backup clone then erase your main drive and restore the clone. If you have a TM backup from before the outage, then erase the drive, reinstall OS X, then restore your files from the TM backup.
If you don't have a backup then at least backup your personal data before reinstalling.
If only Mail is affected and all else appears normal, then you can try replacing Mail with a fresh copy from the OS X Installer Disc One. Use the Optional Installs installer which will let you reinstall certain applications like Mail without having to reinstall OS X. You might also try removing the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file and the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/ folder (drag to Trash or Desktop) to see if that fixes the problem before replacing the Mail application itself. If it's simply a corrupted preference or cache file, then you won't need to worry about doing something more extreme.

  • Trouble with Mac Unexpectedly Quitting

I have a iMac with the following hardware overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.20f4
I have trouble with programs unexpectedly quitting and am having trouble finding out what's wrong. The most problems occur when using Photoshop Elements 4.0.1 (which happens multiple times daily, usually if not always when I'm trying to save), but I've also had Safari quit unexpectedly. I've been working with both Apple Care and the Adobe technical support and have found no solutions as of yet. Here are all of the things I've tried to date (and none have yet solved the problem):
    - Emptied Cache and Cookies folders
    - Run Repair Disk Permissions & Verify Disk
    - Re-installed Adobe Photoshop Elements
    - Created a new user account and tried running the program from within there
    - Booted up the computer in safe mode and run the program (still quit unexpectedly)
Was being helped by Apple Care once again and they were going to have me re-install Max OS X, but the guy suggested I post here first for advice.
I do have the option of upgrading to Max OS X Leopard, but didn't want to complicate things (although maybe they'd improve).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Definitely not a tech wiz, but do understand a bit.
    Thanks for reading this...

    Welcome to the Forums
Did you run Repair Disk from your Install Disc? Boot holding down the C Key
From the Installer Menu select Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk..Reboot
    Then..Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility>Repair Disk Permissions.

  • Photoshop Elements 4.0 unexpectedly quits when launching

I just installed Photoshop Elements 4.0. Every time I try to launch the program it starts to open and then unexpectedly quits and gives me the option of reporting it to Apple. I've installed it four times and this happens each time I try to launch the program. The installation goes fine as far as I can tell and I restart the computer each time.
I am running OS 10.3.9 on a PowerPC G4 with 640 MB of RAM and 108 GB available on the hard drive, so there shouldn't be a problem with meeting the System Requirements.
Power Mac G4, iBook G3, Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

After reading your response, I think I repaired permissions (in Disk Utility, right? Click on the disk and then on Repair Permissions). I tried several more installs, repairing permissions before each one. That didn't work, so I created a new administrative account and tried installing from there. I did that a couple of times, again repairing permissions before each one. PE still crashes when launching.
My computer is on 24/7, with a backup to my external hard drive scheduled for each night. Since I first installed PE, my back up software has also been unexpectedly quitting. I did a backup after completely shutting down my computer and it worked fine. Won't know until tomorrow whether the automatic backup will work.
I checked the Adobe support for PE and tried some of their suggestions, including going to Console to identify software conflicts. I didn't find anything there, except that the crash log says it's a kern problem. Does that help at all?
I've never had a problem with installing software before. Should I erase my disk and reinstall everything, or is that a last resort?

  • Unexpectedly quit

    Hello,
I am running 10.2.8 on my b/w g3 and lots of apps are quitting. how do i stop it? it there a firmware i'm supposed to install? i tried to do some system updates but it unexpectedly quit too. HELP!
    themacguy

Mac Guy, welcome, you run a firmware check here.
After that, try booting from your install CD (”C” key held down), when it mounts (you get to the X window) go up to the Main Menu under Installer and open Disk Utility. Select your startup drive from the upper hand corner of the window and under First Aid run Disk Repair. If it does not repair it try it again until it does. If it can not repair then you will have to try a third party disk repair software.
If everything checks run Repair Permissions, then quit Disk Utility and select you startup drive from the Main Menu under Installer/Change Startup Disk and click Restart.

  • My Preview app unexpectedly quits since installing OS Lion

I recently installed OS Lion (10.7) and since this installation, I cannot open any PDF files. When I attempt to download PDFs, Preview app opens and then says it unexpectedly quit. Any suggestions?

No, because you didn't provide any details

  • Illustrator crashes while loading (Illustrator has unexpectedly quit message)mac

    Mac OSX 10.4.1 Tiger/Power Book G4 12"/Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.0
If anyone has had this problem, I have found a fix that worked. Illustrator has unexpectedly quit, crash during initialization of the program during loading.
In my case it was a font that I downloaded called ZEBRA that caused Illustrator to crash during this loading period. I had no Idea that corrupt fonts could effect the application in this way. I went through all of the steps that I could think of to fix this problem including, re-setting the preferences folder within CS3, running disk utility to reset user permissions, re-installing Illustrator and safe mode startup. I even created another user account to test and see if it was a user settings corruption. What I found was that Illustrator would open and function properly when using the newly created user account from startup. After this I ran the mac in safe mode from start up of my original user account. In doing this I was able to start Illustrator again without the crash occurring.
At this point I went to my font book application and tried to find a corrupt font. At first I hi-lighted all of the fonts and went to File-Validate fonts. This process gave me some fonts with errors which I then deleted from my font book. Again, I tried to open Illustrator and still the same error (Unexpectedly Quit). I then went to font book, hi-lighted all fonts and disabled all fonts. After this I tried to open Illustrator. Amazingly Illustrator loaded with no problem. Ok now I know the problem lies in a corrupt font. Evidently you can have a corrupt font and it not show up while validating fonts. In the end I had to go through all the user fonts and de-activated them, then try to open Illustrator to see which font was corrupt and delete it. It was a little easier to select a group to deactivate and then narrow it down to just one font.
In my case the corrupt font was ZEBRA that I had to delete. I downloaded this font online for free. So if you have this problem after downloading a font online, this is more than likely the problem. After this everything was back to normal
Sorry for such a long explanation. I hope this saves someone the time and headache I had to go through to fix mine.
    Thanks Mike.

Well I don't have that Zebra font, and I've just installed this for the first time. I have been troubleshooting this for many hours between yesterday and today, and I've tried every suggestion I've found in this forum and a couple of things not mentioned. I have no preferences to delete since it's never successfully opened, and I put in a help ticket with Adobe yesterday, but I'm frustrated because nothing like this has ever happened to me before in 24 years of doing computer graphics. So if anyone has any further suggestions not covered thus far, I'm open to them!
This is what I've tried so far:
Installation went fine. I registered and activated the software. First attempt (and every attempt) the software crashes at start up. I tried installing the updates, verifying my fonts, deactivating downloaded fonts, restarting the computer, and tried to open it in my alternate user account. I tried using the disc to uninstall and reinstall (3 times after the first). I tried opening the software in safe mode. I tried installing it in the alternate user account.
I am running Mac OS 10.4.11 Tiger on a G5 PPC with 92 GB free HD memory, 2.5 GB RAM, 2.1 GHZ processor. PS CS3 runs fine and is unaffected by any of this.

  • Why on Premiere Elements 9 for Mac Unexpectly Quits when previewing edit?

Former Dell Windows XP PC user with new MacBook Pro OS X 10.6.5 with 2.53 GHz Intel iCore 5
Using Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for the Mac.
Experience: Premiere Elements 2, 4, 6, 7 on Windows based PC
First video editing experience on MacBook Pro using PSE9 so far consisting of 3 still pictures with titles and transitions.
The 3 still photos ran fine with no titles and no fades and no transitions.
When I add a title wth a fade in OR add a transition between photo clips and try to preview the edit without rendering the work area, The application suddenly quits with the message (see attached error message photo): Adobe Premiere Elements 9 quit unespectedly.
The Problem details and System Configuration runs hundreds of lines.
When I click the Reopen button, it doesn't work -- all I get is a white screen.
When I click OK, I get a Crash Report for Adobe Premiere Elements 9  window (see attached error message photo)
If I render the work area before previewing, the "unexpected quit" problem goes away.  So that is a solution but it is a "work around" solution.
    Attempts to solve problem:
Contacted Adobe support person via telephone named Jolly in India.  He connected to my computer so that he could see my screen.  His solution was to download an available update for  APSE9 and the first Preview run worked flawlessly.  So we hung up the phone.
Then I did one "cross disolve" transition and Bing !! ASPE9 unexpectedly quit !!
Any ideas at all?  NOTE:  This 70 yr old "didn't grow up with computers" is still on learning curve for using the Mac.
    Thanks in advance,  David (DRthiess)

Thank you Bill H. and Steve G. for your prompt reply and suggestions.
Bill, I started this project of editing the video from my son's, (the coach) boy's team winning the state Cross-Country championship back on Monday (now Thursday 12/2) with the intent of having it finished by the time I see him on Sat.  I'm running out of time to do extensive research and will have to use my "work arounds" the problem, namely rendering the work area before previewing an EDIT (and maybe even "sharing" small segments as a .mov file to my hard drive without previewing and then putting the segments together and later researching a fix.
Note Bill that when APrE9 first quits, I do get "details" that run hundreds of lines -- which mean nothing to this 70 yr. old mind.  I do submit reports into, is it APPLE? or is it ADOBE? that gets the reports.  And what does the "receiver" do with the reports anyway?
Steve.  The camera is a Sony DV camcorder (tape) but I haven't gotten to the video yet.  I started the video editing with 3 jpeg still photo and was trying to overlay them with titles with some fade in's and fade out's and Cross dissolve transitions.  So I haven't even dragged the action video to the time line yet.
NOTE: I have installed Parallels 6 and Windows 7 on my Mac and my Adobe premiere elements 9 (just purchased) came with both a Mac installation DVD and a Windows installation DVD.  The Adobe tech support said that I could try the Windows version when Windows 7 is up and running on my computer but that Adobe would not support that platform because as he said:  Window 7 on the Mac doesn't operate the same as Windows 7 on a PC.  News to me as I thought that by installing Windows 7 on my Mac, I would get the identical Windows environment with no conflicts.  Perhaps I was expecting too much.
Thanks again.  I'll report back when I get it solved or if I need more help.
    David
