Installer Utility missing?  Help installing iTunes 9.2

I just upgraded to the new iPhone4, and I'm trying to install iTunes 9.2 on my iBook G4 (groan, I know, I know). Running OS version 10.4.11.
When I downloaded the .dmg file and went to open it, I received an error message asking me to choose an application to open the file with. This has been happening with other programs I try to download for almost six months and I've always chocked it up to the age of my computer. I see a document image, rather than the cardboard box file I used to see. I noticed that other individuals in the "Installing & Upgrading iTunes for Mac" section had similar problems, and I checked another site as well.
After reading this thread, I have been thinking maybe my system just isn't recognizing the .mpkg file. I downloaded the RCDefaultApp as recommended and went through the steps outlined to get to the PrefPane, but when I went to take this step, "Then set the Installer (in Applications/Utilities) as the default application," I could find no "Installer" in the Utilities folder.
Is this normal? If not, how can I get the Installer Utility back? Are there other recommendations for the issue I'm having installing iTunes 9.2? I'm unable to properly setup my iPhone4 until I get this version of iTunes running, so any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Okay, I went to the Genius Bar for help with this, and the guy there figured it out. So in case anyone else has had this happen, here's what it was:
When I clicked on the .dmg icon and got what would ordinarily be an opened box (installer) icon, I got what looked like a doc icon instead. Click on that doc icon, then hit command-I (get info). On my computer, somehow the "Open with..." preference had been changed to "Unarchiver" instead of "Installer." He changed it back to "Installer," et voila... fixed!

• I need help installing iTunes on my new Dell Inspiron with Windows 7.

When I attempt to install iTunes (downloading from the iTunes website) on my new Dell Inspiron with Windows 7, I get the following error message, "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
Please help.  Thank you.

Have you tried to install other programmes on the same PC? If they have worked, your installer should be in working order, so redownload iTunes and try again

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or some other number? (If they're another number, what number are you getting?)

• Help installing itunes Scripts?

hi all..
Can anyone help me installing itunes scripts to help with bulk duplicates removal?
Thanks,
Brook

hiya!
When i click on itunes to install it, it says that there is insufficient space in the system drive to install it. also says it requires 100gb to do it.
that's ultrakinky. itunes program file sizes total somewhere in the tens of megabytes ranges.
let's try getting a installer log to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence so an Apple engineer can have a look at it.
Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunes installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
/Verbose"c:\log.txt" /V"ENABLE_QTLOGGING=TRUE"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote ("). There is no space between the V"Enable...
Hit return.
The installer will create two log files:
C:\log.txt and C:\qt.log
Find those files and send them to a Discussions Host Put the URL to this discussion thread into the email, so that whoever gets it has some context. Let them know the version of itunes you’re trying to install, too … in general, give as much info as you can.

• Help installing iTunes please

I just got an iPod nano and am trying to install iTunes from the CD that came with it. It installs almost all of the way until it starts doing things with the registry, then it stops and I get this message:
Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\.cdda\OpenWithProgids. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
After I click ok it then starts to rollback the installation and then I get a window that says feature transfer error and
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
I am not sure what to do; I tried deleting the contents of my TEMP folder, installing the new InstallShield engine ikernel thing, disabling my anti-virus software, uninstalling old versions of quicktime, and I verified that I have administrative privleges. If someone can help me I would be very greatful, I really want to use my nano but I need iTunes to put music on it.

• Windows Installer reports errors when installing iTunes

I have a system with Windows XP. I only have 512MB memory. I have made numerous attempts to install iTunes. I actually had iTunes on the computer previously in conjuction with EZVinyl Converter. I was having problems with that and tried to reload iTunes. The download works fine. When I try to install, I get a message saying, "Windows Installer encountered problems  before iTunes could be configured. I do not know how to fix the problem.
I use Comodo for my antivirus and firewall protection.

Problem was resolved by solutions offered by B Noir. It was necessary to remove the Temp folder in Local Settings for iTunes to install correctly on my Windows XP system. Thanks for your input.

• Installation freezes trying to install itunes for first time

I just got my first ipod and I'm trying to install itunes. There's no error message but installation just seems to freeze after two or three percent. I've tried mozilla and ie, and I tried downloading from filehippo. I did the msconfig thing too, but since I don't have any quicktime or itunes do disable it doesn't seem to matter.

The page that you posted from has instructions for how to reset them i.e. if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 half-way down that page should give you a reset link.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple in your country to get the questions reset (these are user-to-user forums).
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the HT5312 page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use

• Network Utility missing / not installed??

I've recently purchased a MacBook Pro and have just noticed the network utility is not installed in the utility folder where it was on my previous PowerBook.
I'm was running Tiger on the PowerBook and the network utility was installed, can't understand why it isn't installed on the MacBook Pro.
Any ideas

Hi optiman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I was just about to direct you to the great instructions by Kappy that Limnos already pointed to... thanks Limnos!
Though for safety, whenever something mysterious is missing, I think it would pay to first do this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.

• HELP installing itunes 7

I recently got a 30 gb ipod, and i cant install itunes 7. I originally tried installing it at first, and it said cannot remove older applications of Apple Software Update. So i installed itunes 4 to put music on my ipod. Then i tried again to install itunes 7 and i keep getting the same error message. Anyone else having this problem? Can anyone give me some suggestions please?

It means that you probably have a remnant of a previous version of Quicktime on your system which is interferring with your new install. Go to this article for instructions on how to remove all trace of iTunes and Quicktime from your system:

• Help installing iTunes 8.1

I cannot install the latest iTunes 8.1 as I get a message "problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run". Can somebody please help me.

Something to try ...
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Try uninstalling any instance of Apple software update.
If you get an uninstall failure, run the cleanup utility and remove any instance of Apple software update that you find.
Download the iTunes installer and save it on your desktop.
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Rune the installer from there.
