Installing 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2008 64-bit

Hello,
We are unable to install 10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_db.zip on Windows 2008 SP2.
After clicking on setup.exe, nothing happens. We can just see setup.exe running at 50% in taskmanager.
The Client install, for VISTA/W2K8 x64 also fails, it does exactly the same.
This is running on VMWare. A physical machine running the same version of Windows 2008 is able to run the setup.exe file fine.
Does anyone have a work around for this issue?

Pl see if MOS Doc 249212.1 (Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments) can help.

  • Install Forms 11g FM on Windows 2008 64 bit

Has anyone been able to install FM 11g (Forms etc) on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit.

I have installed the WLS using the 64 bit version of JRockit with no problems.

I reviewed your SR and wanted to clarify a few things. In the SR, you were not exactly told that installing (in general) was not supported on Win2008(x64). You were simply told that you could not use the 32bit download on a 64bit machine or install the Builders on x64. If you were told something else in a call I apologize as that information may have not been correct. Additionally, the SR is very confusing because you go from talking about Win2008 to XP to 2003 back to 2008 and so on. This is a very difficult way to troubleshoot. Dealing with one problem at a time will almost always result in the fastest resolution time. That said, here are the facts based on the platforms you mentioned in the SR.
    1. Windows 2008 (64bit): This platform is intended for deployment (server). Although it may be possible to install the Forms/Reports Builders on this platform, Oracle is currently not supporting the Builders on any 64bit platform. Plans to support 64bit Operating Systems for Builders is still under review. So, for now, you must use the 64bit download to install on a 64bit platform. If you choose to attempt the installation of the Builders on this platform, you do it at your own risk.
    2. Windows XP and Vista (32bit): These platforms are generally considered "client" platforms. These platforms are supported for using Builders. Technically they are not supported to be used as servers. Therefore, HTTP Server and Web Cache are not supported on these platforms. More details are explained in the Release Notes:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/relnotes.1111/e10132/intro.htm#sthref8
    3. Windows 2003 (32bit): This platform can be used with both the deployment components and the design-time components. That said, being a 32bit platform, I would not recommend trying to run a prod system and attempt to develop on it as well. Certainly, doing application maintenance on this machine would be fine, but if you were running a prod environment here, I would not suggest running the Builders full time too. 4gig of RAM or more would definitely be needed. See the following:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283037
Now, the actual problems you had/have:
Configuration failing when installing on Win2008 (64) - Looking at the SR, this appears to have been the result of trying to use the 32bit installation on the 64bit box. Upon initial release of the product, 64bit Windows distributions were not available. However, they are now and must be used on 64bit Windows 2008 and 2003 platforms. Refer to the OTN Download area.
Also seen in the error log was a connection issue. This is often caused as a result of several things, but the most common causes are WLS (node manager) is not running or the machine is under powered (usually lack of RAM). Regardless of what is documented, experience shows that a Windows machine will need to have at least 3.5 gig of RAM in order to support the installation process. This assumes that nothing else is running during the installation process unless it is absolutely needed. It seems that 4gig or more offers the most likely chance of a successfull installation on the first attempt.
Regarding the error which suggests that a given service already exists. This could likely happen if you attempted an installation, but it failed then you attempted to re-run the installation without first doing a thorough clean-up.
On the XP installation it appears that there was some memory issues. From the log: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. As I mentioned, for the most likely chance of success, the machine should have at least 3.5 gig of RAM. If you are just installing the Builders you can have less, but if the config portion fails, you will probably see the connection failure seen in your other attempts. When/if this failure occurs, do not exit or do anything with the installer. Allow a minute or two (or more) for the new instance to completely start then select the Retry option. You will likely find that the configuration will complete successfully.
Also, important for any installation type.... When installing WLS, UNcheck the Launch Quick Start option that appears near the end of the WLS installation. Running this creates a default or demo instance. Unless you are planning to use this example instance, leaving it out can give back as much as 500 meg RAM in some cases. If you have already installed it and don't want to reinstall, stop whatever processes start as a result of that example instance.
    SUMMARY
    1. Be sure you are installing the correct software for your platform type. 64bit software for 64bit OS
    2. On Windows, ensure that you have either installed the Loopback adapter or added your host name to the hosts file. Refer to Section 2.3:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/install.1111/e10421/install.htm#CHDEAAGD
    3. Ensure that the machine has at least 3.5 gig RAM. For systems with less, expect to see failures during the configuration portion of the install. Use "Retry" to overcome this.
    4. Builders are only supported on 32bit platforms at this time:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/relnotes.1111/e10132/intro.htm#sthref8
    5. Ensure that WLS node manager is running before installing FMw
I don't think I missed anything, but just be sure to review the Installation Guide AND the Release Notes.

  • Installing CF8.0.1 64 on Windows 2008 Serv

Does anyone have a set of instructions on installing CF8.0.1
64bit on Windows 2008 Server. I have tried on and off for the last
two weeks and have made no progress. The install goes great,
however the CF administrator component of the install fails with a
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error. IIS7 worked fine prior to
coldfusion installation, however once CF 8.0.1 gets installed IIS7
appears to break. I've read the other thread in the forum and the
suggestions made there don't help or have already been done.
    Module IsapiModule
    Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
    Handler AboMapperCustom-72626
    Error Code 0x800700c1
    Most likely causes:
    - IIS received the request; however, an internal error
occurred during the processing of the request. The root cause of
this error depends on which module handles the request and what was
happening in the worker process when this error occurred.
    - IIS was not able to access the web.config file for the Web
site or application. This can occur if the NTFS permissions are set
    incorrectly.
-IIS was not able to process configuration for the Web site
    or application.
-The authenticated user does not have permission to use this
    DLL.
-The request is mapped to a managed handler but the .NET
    Extensibility Feature is not installed.
Things to try (from the error summary page)
    - Ensure that the NTFS permissions for the web.config file
are correct and allow access to the Web server's machine account.
    - Check the event logs to see if any additional information
    was logged.
    - Verify the permissions for the DLL.
    - Install the .NET Extensibility feature if the request is
    mapped to a managed handler.
    - Create a tracing rule to track failed requests for this
    HTTP status code.
Adobe in going to expect a $6700 check from me in another
week or so and the damn thing doesn't install to the point where
the demo's will run. Windows 2008 and IIS7 isn't that new and I
can't imagine that the number of people having done this is limited
to the one or two in this forum and that there is no technote avail
to us that have to depend on internet support and published
technotes that can document the installation procedure of CF 8.0.1
    64bit on windows 2008.
It's the fourth of July and this is a fine place to be.
    Happy 4th everyone!

  • Oracle Client version (32 or 64 bit) to install on a Windows 2008 64-bit m/

    Hi guys,
      I am installing BOXI 3.1 SP2 on a Windows 2008 64-bit server.
Which Oracle 10g client (32 or 64 bit) should I install on a 64-bit software. I know BO is native 32 bit, so ODBCs should be 32 bit incase CMS repositories are on SQL server.
Is there a standard for Business Objects for the versions of database client tools to be installed on server?
Also can we install database clients tools after the Business Objects 3.1 SP2 install on the server, provided I am using SQL server dbs for CMS and Audit databases?
    Thanks,

    @Duncan
You recommend using 32 bit Oracle client. Is there any official documents from SAP BO stating this? I have difficulties finding anything. I'm in the same situation:
    OS : Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit
    BO : 32bit
    Oracle Client : 32bit OR 64bit?????
Is BO 32bit compatible with Oracle Client 64bit, at the level of using Infoview/Desktop Intelligence?

I am having a problem installing the x86 drivers on a Windows 2008 server for a hp laserjet 4000n.

    Hi all,
Sylonious, did you manage to sort this problem out? I have been experiencing similar problems. I think my problem was because I had many different versions of JDKs. I have done a complete re-install. I would be really grateful to you (and anyone else) for help with this problem.
I have re-installed JSDK1.4.2_03, set the "path" variable to "C:\JSDK1.4.2_03".
When I compile using "javac" I get an error saying "javac" is not recognised.
When I compile using "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_03\bin\javac Freq.java" no error is thrown.
Every time I try to run a java file, I always get the NoClassDefFound error. When run with the -verbose option, files are loaded from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin - is this correct?
I have removed all previous references to java in the registry editor.
    Please help !

Can anyone suggest a solution to solve this issue? Is our hardware is not sufficient ? Shall we need to perform any
specific settings in Oracle RAC setup for performance evaluations?
Is our settings for load balancing is not enough? ( We added "Load Balancing= On" on tnsnames.ora on client for load

    Hi All...
    Environment: Window 2008 64 bit.
Installing: Latest WebTools compatible with 64 bit.
    Installed: 2.0 asp.net
After installing webtools in this environment we attempt to register/request the license.
After clicking on the request - windows prompts you to open.
If you attempt to open, you are asked which program to open with...?
    That seems odd.
At this point this is all I have and am stuck as the system is inaccessible.
    Rob.

    Bryce...
    This did help.
Also - I discovered that the webserver was not previously connected to the domain and was not inheriting permissions.
    Steps Taken:
Uninstalled the IIS and ASP Roles from the web server as local server administrator.
    Joined web server to domain.
Added the IIS and ASP Role.
    Re-installed webtools.
    Registration launched - no exceptions.
    Gracias.

  • Problems with RH 8 and Windows 2008 64-bit servers with IIS7?

I have been informed that my company's servers are being upgraded to Windows 2008 64-bit servers with IIS7, from Windows 2003 & IIS6. Probably will be online in April 2011.
I have a project created using WebHelp, RoboHelp HTML v5. I have RoboHelp HTML v8 (haven't had a chance to use it yet). We are currently using IE7 on XP. Does anyone have any info on issues with RoboHelp v8 WebHelp projects running on Windows 2008 64-bit servers & IIS7 that I need to be concerned about? I thought I should convert the project developed using RH 5 to and RH 8 project, then FTP it to the new server when it becomes available.
Any helpful info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alden

Acrobat 8 is not certified for Win7, particularly the x64 version. If you got the installation to go, the first step is to update AA8 to at least AA8.2. The x64 with XP required at least AA8.2 and I suspect that has not changed. I would suggest updating to the latest, either from the help menu (until no more updates are available) or by downloading the updates from the adobe.com>downloads page. For the latter, download ALL updates after your current version and install them in ORDER. They are not cummulative in most cases. You only need to reboot after the final update. The updates may get you going. If not, you may simply have to upgrade to AA9 or search for what others have been able to do in your situation.
