Installing 10.3 or 10.4 and 9.2 as well

I am trying to squeeze a little more life out of my parents G3 400MHz iMac for them.
Dad uses the internet for share trading (it's his hobby at the moment) and it's got to the point he has to upgrade his browser and needs OS X do this properly. The problem is that they will also need to use the OS 9 version of MYOB for the next six months or so for their business before they will be retiring. As they will be retiring shortly there is no point in upgrading MYOB to be OS X compatible ( and mum is looking forward to never having to use it again).
In os x I will be deleting lots of software that they will never use - as they only really need the basics as they are not really very computer literate.
I thought that this would be easy as I have done this before for my sisters iMac which is a little newer.
I upgraded the firmware to 4.1.9. , formatted the drive. created two partitions - one 1Gb for OS 9 and one 8.35 for os x.
Installed os 9 with no problems but had problems installing os x.
Q1 when I rechecked system profiler it told me the osx partition only had about 7.6Gb available. Could this be why I had problems installing osx.
Originally I tried to install Tiger using target disk mode and my powerbook - then when this was not sucessful I tried installing Panter from my old Panther CDs
Q2 would it be better to just use one partition and install os-9 ans os x on this partition.(I know this used to be possible - Is it still?)
Please advise what would be the best way to achieve what I need to do?
They do plan to upgrade to a new computer next year before they retire - but I need to find a solution until then.

Welcome Diannef,
You should be able to install OS9 and OSX on the same partition. If I remember correctly your iMac 400 has not limitation (first 8Gb partition) like 233-333 iMacs.
My concern is the size of your HD. 10Gb HD is enough for OS 9 and few applications but if you add to it OSX you may be to tight. I will consider upgrade your HD to 80Gb at least and install OS 9 and OSX on the same partition.

I read that it is not on Snow Leopard only on Leopard....so do I need to get only Leopard? Can u advise?

Hi, If I have 1 license for creative cloud, will it possible to install in 2 computers (1 laptop and 1 desktop)? When I am in the office I can use desktop and at home I can use laptop? At the same time I will be using only one devise. Will that be possible? Thanks

I am no musician, but have owned an iMac now for around four years. During that time I have had Garageband installed. I have dipped in and out very occasionally as I would like nothing more than to be able to get my head around it just for my own amusement really. I would at least like to be able to record my electric guitar with loops and tracks etc, just try to be a bit creative and see what comes out. The problem that I have is that perhaps its me, but every time I try to get to grips with this software, I just can't seem to get my head around it, even to begin to do something. I have now recently downloaded 10.0.2 which is confusing in itself, as, as far as I can ascertain that is actually version 11, but I'm not even sure about that. I have also recently purchased a Rocksmith RealTone Cable to connect my guitar. I can sometimes get a sound come out, but nothing to brilliant. And every time I try to set something up, it just doesn't seem to work out. I end up hitting buttons and controls in the simple hope that I may hit the correct control in order to get some sort of result. But I'm kind of fumbling in the dark with this. I have trawled the Internet just trying to find either a good manual or video tutorials for absolute beginners, but there just simply doesn't seem to be anything of that nature out there and what there is appears always to be very sketchy and not particularly detailed in explaining anything properly, and so I always find myself seemingly jumping in with both feet and just struggling to try and find a foothold with this on how to really begin. It is so frustrating as I can see the fantastic potential of this software, but just can't understand how to use it properly. If there is anyone out there who may be able to offer me some advice with this, I would be most grateful indeed... Many Thanks.

Version 10.0.2 is the newest version and the successor to GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5).
The '11 is referring to the iLife '11 suit of multimedia application - the older GarageBand was a part of this bundle.
Have a look at Edgar's graphical enhanced manuals, the explain very detailed how things work and why. You can buy them as iBooks from the iBook store or directly from the page:

Bought a new 27" mac and did a data migration from the old mac. The creative cloud app will not install as it says its damaged, and prompts to download it. Every time i try to install it crashes and says cc is needed for this problem, and i go round in circles....Any ideas please?
Please try to download it by enabling the root user:

hi, there, i got my iphone4 updated via wifi n its downloaded, its shows when i check the software update n when i install it, it shows verifying the software n after a couple of seconds comes back with "error while installing ios6" failed so many attempts and even tried to reset the phone, but no use, then i tried latest updated itunes too, can u believe it, it took ages to download n when it was 880mb of the 899mb file, error occured , so many failed attempts, can some one tell me what to do ? are there any issues with iphone4 updates? m scared to update it now, but really wanna get it on my phone.
I have experienced a similar error with the iPhone 4S. The new version of iTunes will not let me restore the phone, it must be updated and nothing appears to be happening. Suffice it to say I am not amused. Apple needs to work this out - I had trouble updating to 8.0.2 as well.

I am trying to install the newest version of Itunes and each time I repeatedly get the message "Program cannot start MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer Try reinstalling to fix this problem". I have tried reinstalling several times and I get the same message . Any ideas? I am most appreciative. I am using Windows 7.

I recommend removing and reinstalling iTunes using these steps:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

I am trying to INSTALL the free trials of AI and PS when I click on the link to install it goes to another page says installing but nothing is happening. I have the FREE TRIAL Creative Cloud Membership.

Please try the following steps assuming its a MAC:
1) Open Activity monitor and Force quit Adobe CEF Helper, Creative cloud, Adobe IPC Broker & Crash Deamon if available.
2) Try to open, if doesn't work then go to Applications>> Adobe Creative cloud>> Right click>> Get Info>> Click on the Add sign>> Select the user you are logged in>> Give Read and write access.
3) If that doesn't work then enable the root user and launch to update there, check this link on how to enable/sign in to root user Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X

I am trying to install an update of Microsoft office and I get a message that says. This application must be closed ETC..... I am running Parralell and I think it is there. The two programs are "Microsoft Database Daemon" "SyncServicesAgent". How do I close these programs?
If the Office updates have to be run through Win in Parallels, there's not really a section here that covers that , because Neither Office or Parallels are Apple products. There is only a small chance that you'll find someone with BOTH your conditions who just happend to look into a forum on older iMacs.

Hi < i have updated my mac 10.5 with 10.5.8 sucessfully , but while instaling it is taking much time and status bar is not showing any progress
If I remember correctly one of the updates could hang after doing the update. Fixed by a restart but installing a combo update over the top of others rarely does any harm and it may be the best thing to do.

Do you have crash reports with a "bp-" prefix that were submitted and that show a crashing thread?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Worse, i can't force quit the finder and get it to relaunch - the command won't work.
Most of the Lion software also won't work - iTunes, Mail, iCal - and only some of the preferences work.

Won't go away no matter if i hit Ignore or Report...
I have no clue what to do...
Any help?Does that happen if you boot into "safe mode"? Launch the Console utility and look for messages that might explain the problem. If you see a "crash report", post its contents here.

After installing IOS6 on my iphone 4 and my daughters iphone 4s we have this wonderful connection that we would like to break. We are now seeing/receiving each others text messages. I love my daughter but I don't really want to get all of her text messages from her friends and I don't really want to read every response she sends. Additionally, she can also see my text messages and there are times I really don't need for her to know everything that I am doing.
So It is time to cut the cord we need our own seperate texting. I am not sure what we did to have this happen but how do we undo it?Get your Apple ID sort out.
Only use the same Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Stores to share purchases, no where else.
