Installing 10.4.6 over 10.4.8 to access iLife 06 apps

Hi, I'm running 10.4.8 on my G5 which I've updated since 2005 and I've got iLife 05 applications. I just discovered that my retail version of Tiger 10.4.6 (bought for another G4), has iLife 06 on it.
Can I get the iLife Applications from this (set of CDs in this case) to my G5? Will running the 10.4.6 installer overwrite the newer OS or will there be a warning?
Is this possible or do I have to buy the retail iLife 06?
Thanks for any help.

You're welcome.
The Tiger retail install package which can be installed on any Mac model that meets the minimum system requirements for Tiger is on a single DVD disc, not on multiple discs unless you used Apple's Media Exchange Program at an additional cost to exchange the DVD media for CD media which would then be on multiple CD discs.
Regardless, no iLife version has ever been included on a Tiger retail install package.
There is no additional purchase required for the OS X install package and all additional software that is provided with the install package that ships with a new Mac purchase but the install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model and build specific and cannot be used to install the OS and all included software on another Mac.
The Tiger retail install package has a black label on the disc and the OS X install package that ships with a new Mac purchase has a gray label and includes the model name on the label.
Regardless, the license agreement provides for installing and using the OS and all additional software with the install package on a single Apple branded computer at a time.

  • Can I install only iPhoto 7 and continue to use my other iLife '06 apps?

My mac Mini does not meet all of the system requirements for iLife '08. Can I install only iPhoto 7 and still use my old iLife apps like iMovie?

Here's a link to the iPhoto support page http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/. At the bottom left you'll find the system requirements for IP 6. It looks like you're within range as far as the OS requirement and computer model. IP 6 should just upgrade your older version. If you want to install just iPhoto, there should be a "Custom Install" option in a drop-down menu. Choose that (instead of the default "Easy Install") and select what you want to install.

  • Can i install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp

Can I install windows 8.1 over xp in bootcamp?

Is it on the system drive? on its own drive or is it large enough?
Windows 8.1 will run even without Apple's drivers just fine except for a couple items.
Boot Camp forum probably is best place.
Boot Camp is software (and a forum) as in drivers and Boot Camp Assistant.
You have to do a "custom" clean install, you can't upgrade from within XP, you should of course be using 64-bit and Pro for supporting two cpus.

  • Able to install Acrobat 9.1 over the pre-release build

I am able to install Acrobat 9.1 over the pre-release build, however, the release notes say otherwise i.e. to un-install the pre-release build before installing the 9.1 release. Let me know whether to log a bug for the same.

I do not have posting privileges on that forum. I did use the forum to send a message to Apple but have not got a reply yet.

    HI Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Could you expand on your answer, which bit is very doubtful?
Also in your knowledge would Apple work with a company and license it if the software they were developing was desired by consumer demand?
    Thanks

  • How do I install LabVIEW 6.0 over the evaluation version? I can't un-install the evaluation version.

I get the message that another version of LabVIEW 6.0 is already installed and it won't let me install 6.0. How do I get rid of the evaluation version?

I don't have LabVIEW in my Add/Remove Programs. I may have at one time, but
can't remember. The removal must have been incomplete becasue LabVIEW 6.0
says "Another version of this produce is already installed." The same thing
happens if I try to reinstall the evaluation version.

I am trying to install Lion OS X over Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I get an error message: "There are currently other logged in users who must be logged out before you install Mac OS X".
I switch to log out other users and deleted everyone listed. It still says: ....
There is no one else left. I don't know what to do now.
    Bill

I don't know what you mean by "I switch to log out other users and deleted everyone listed" -- if other user accounts are on your Mac you just need to log them out, not delete anything -- but it may be that there are other user accounts you aren't aware of on the Mac.
Are you an admin user? Did you originally set up this Mac?

  • Install iTunes 10.7 over iTunes 11?

    greetings,
    my question is:
how does one install iTunes 10.7 over iTunes 11 if one has iTunes 10.7.dmg?
    here's where i am now:
this mac has OSX 10.7.5.  i tried iTunes 11 a month ago on an older mac that i'm getting rid of.  it has a bad bug and doesn't work right with my 120Gig iPod.  so i can't use it.  haven't had time to report the bug yet, but it's on my list to do...
somehow iTunes 11 showed up on my work MBPro yesterday without running software updater.  i always decline installing iTunes 11.  i used iTunes 10.7 tues night.  and last night (wed) when i plugged in my iPod, i got the new software license screen "accept/decline" etc.  i checked get info on iTunes in /Applications, and sure enough, it shows version 11.0.1 and a modificaiton date of wed morning (?).  i was in meetings most of the day and software NEVER ran...  but i digress...
regardless of how this happened, i'm trying to fix this and reinstall the previous version...
i found and downloaded iTunes 10.7 installer on apple's website.  but when i run the installer, i get a message "iTunes can't be installed on this computer because a newer version is already installed"...  never seen this before...
so i tried deleted iTunes 11.0.1, and get a message "iTunes can't be modifed or deleted because it is required by OSX"!  ??
i've never seen this before either.
so i assumed i need to boot from an external drive so that i can delete iTunes...  we have no "boot" dvd anymore.  but i have an exteral drive with the complete OS and various utilites so that i can boot from an external disc in case i can't boot from the internal drive or need to run a utility like diskwarrior...  but my company has forced a third party disc encryption software.  so this prevents me from mounting the internal drive when i've booted from my external drive.  there goes all of my repair and recovery tools, but i digress...
this is a new MBPro.  it took me forever to configure and get software installed because of the shenanigans of the companies IT department and the lack of physical media from Apple and other software vendors.  i just finished the same day i had to leave on a trip.
so i'm trying to figure out how to install iTunes 10.7 if iTunes 11 is already installed.
    i'd appreciate any suggestions.

ok, found a way to delete iTunes from terminal
    sudo -rf /Applications/iTunes
then i can run the installer for iTunes 10.7...

  • Problems Installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0)

I have problems installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0). When I try to create the repository the installation hang up. I try over Oracle 8i (WIndows 2000) and the problems remain.
    Please any body can help?
Is it possible to install Designer 6i and generate forms 6.0 (I mean for using Developer 6.0 (NOT 6i))?
    Best regards,
    JAGC

    Marcel,
I had the same problem. Oracle gives as an answer that Designer 6.0 is not supported against 8.1.7. In the specified package a statement is issued which is a problem for 8.1.7. I changed that package and now it works fine.
Comment as below and replace with the delete statement, then it compiles fines.
I don't know if any problem can occur after that, but a Migration from a 1.3.2 repository to 6i works fine through this repository. Hope this helps.
    Kind Regards

  • "You need to install Switchboard"...over and over and over...

Okay, running kuler Desktop on my Mac, G5 PPC running 10.5.8 OS.
I downloaded kuler Desktop, figured it looked like an awesome way to speed up my using this online tool and even bring swatches directly into my CS3 apps.
However, I have AIR installed, kuler Desktop, and when I went to use the Photoshop or Illustrator import options, it immediately popped up saying I had to install Switchboard.  Fine.  I downloaded it, installed it, restarted kuler Desktop.
It did it again.  Okay, fine.  I dumped everything, including kuler Desktop, re-installed everything, even restarted the whole computer.  But when I go to do anything other than download it to the desktop, when I go to bring it into any of the CS3 apps, I keep getting the same "You must install Switchboard" option.  And yes, I've tried dumping the plist and preferences files as well, to no avail.  And yes, the applications I've tried have been open at the time.  I did some searching and reading on this before posting about it, to try and find if someone had reported a similar issue.  But nobody mentioned the Switchboard install thing coming up over and over again, just that the feature wasn't working, so I thought I'd post specifically about this to see if it's the same issue or if there's as yet a solution for it so it works properly.
What's going on? Is kuler Desktop for Mac just fundamentally not yet working right or what?
I really want to use this app, but if all I can do with it is download the straight ASE files to my desktop, I might as well dump it and go back to using the online version since that at least is a bigger display.  I like the desktop version because it's fast, directly on my computer, and has this advertised import-into-CS3 option that would save me some time if it worked.  I've attached a screen capture so you can see exactly what I keep getting when this happens.
Any help to clarify this or correct it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Reboot your computer, then try to log in.

Somehow after upgrading to OSX Maverick I downloaded new pages version and loved it. Somehow l LAST WEEK I downloaded the old version of
pages and now the new pages files wont open? How do I uninstall the old pages?

You should be able to reinstall the new version.....
Out of curiosity, how did you install the old version over the new? I would have thought that was impossible.

  • Install 10.6.8 over Tiger Intel to Continue Using Sophos

I am currently using Sophos for Mac Free Edition 8.0.21C on my iMac Ma200LL/A Core Duo 2gigs, 2gigs of ram. As of April 2014 Sophos will only support 10.6.8 + above with version 9. No new virus definitions will be available, but I can continue to scan my computer for existing definitions. I still enjoy using Tiger Intel, fulfills all my requirements, runs very fast on my iMac Core Duo. As an alternative shall I think about using ClamXav 2.2.1 the last version for Tiger Intel that still offers the newest virus definitions as well as current system scanning. I think Sophos is the best because of its reputation in the enterprise sector. Or might it be time to install 10.6.8 over Tiger Intel, then continue using Sophos to be optimally safe on the internet? Thanks, Ken.

I guess I'm a bit confused by what you mean by support.
I'm sure you realize that Apple hasn't supported it since Sep 2009 and there won't be any software updates beyond ClamXav 2.2.1. The scan engine will continue to work and could possibly be updated by you with some degree of difficulty. The signature updates are the only thing that will continue and there are even plans to improve the OS X coverage that is TBD. The only danger is that the ClamAV® folks did disable engine 0.94 back in 2009 with no warning, so hopefully that won't happen again.

  • Can't install 10.0.1 (over 9) on a Mac (can't select previous version)

I can't install 10.0.1 over 9.4.1 on my Mac (10.6.6) because I can't select the previous version during the installation process…I thought maybe I needed version 10 to update, but I went to Adobe's downloadable "older versions" and it just has 9.4.
Is there something else going on, or does anyone have an FTP URL with version 10.0.0 available for download?

You are probably trying to install update and not full installer. 10.0.1 updates can only be installed if Reader X is in your system. Here you have Reader 9.4. You can update this Reader to 9.4.2 and not 10.0.1
If you want to install Reader X on Mac, go to http://get.adobe.com/reader
This will download Reader X (10.0.1 full installer which includes the update) installer package on your system. Run this package to install Reader 10.0.1 on your system
    Thanks,
