Installing 10g Express Edition ( Windows XP Pro )

Can anyone tell me if i can install this edition with the partitioning option or indeed if it is available with the Express edition.
I have successfully installed but if i try to create a partitioned table an error message is displayed ' partitioning option not enabled'.

Partitioning isn't supported in anything less than enterprise edition.

Said that XE 10g is not certified for Windows 8 (Oracle® Database Express Edition), please post the exact commands you executed and error(s) you got.
Did you insert data in that table ? and did you select from the same session, or another one ? if another one, did you commit after inserting ?

  • Installing Oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux

    Hi,
I am new with Linux Os and have to install oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux Os for a customer. So before proceeding, I need some guidelines.
    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases?
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setup

    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?Ordinarily, I'd recommend getting Oracle Linux (http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux) because the default install includes all the prerequisite RPM packages you will need. And failing that, also offers another RPM package "oracle-validated" which will cause the installation of the necessary prerequisites.
But... you mentioned customer: if this is a revenue-producing situation and customer money is at stake, I strongly recommend they obtain commercial O/S support with either Oracle, Red Hat, or maybe SuSE/Novell. Compared to the cost of a downed business, an O/S support arrangement is cheap, cheap, cheap.
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?Sure. You can run Oracle VirtualBox on most Linux, Windows, or Solaris boxes. http://VirtualBox.org for info.
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases? No real differences in either environment.

  • Can I disable 10g Express Edition from starting at Windows XP boot time?

I am a student who installed 10g Express Edition on my laptop for my classes.
That is really working out great. Wonderful product.
However, I only use it a couple of times a week.
Is there a way that I can disable the automatic start up of 10g XE when I boot up my
Windows XP system? So that I am in a position to go to 'Start Database' when I want
to use the product and start it up manually? That would be great.
My laptop is maxed out at 2GB of RAM and I am trying to hold off buying a new
    pc for a while.
    Thanks for any help!

    Thanks for all the help!
I used the Windows GUI for Component Services.
I found OracleServiceXE there set to Automatic.
    I changed it to Manual.
    Restarted my system.
Checked the running Processes - didn't find any Oracle named ones.
Did a Start Database. It started right up.
Then I checked my Processes and found an oracle.exe running.
    So that all looks great.
I did find a couple of other services that I didn't change.
    Those are:
OracleJobSchedulerXE (it was set to Disabled)
OracleMTSRecoveryService (it was set to Manual)
OracleXEClrAgent (it was set to Manual)
OracleXETNSListener (it was set to Automatic)
That was the way those were set before I made my change.
And they are still set that way.
Let me know if I need to do anything with them.
    Thanks!

  • 10g express edition ....reinstallation

I had installed 10g express edition on my Windows XP m/c, I could see go to Database Home Page from All Programs-> 10g Expreess Edition.
Had to reinstall it as we switched to Windows 7, I dont get the same meaning I cannot invoke the XE application now. Dont know what I did wrong while installing.....I downloaded the exe file from Oracle.com
Also I remember I was asked to enter an id and pw to setup a connection at the installation but NOT this time.
    Appreciate quick help
    Thanks

No Oracle product has been tested against or certified to run on Win7.
I am truly amazed at the number of people that bought Win7 and are trying to use a not-ready-for-prime-time operating system for enterprise software.
The Oracle database is not a bubble game or a word processor. <g> Really.

  • Not installing Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 2

    Hi,
I am in problem to install Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 2 on Windows 2000 Pro. I have download OracleXE.exe but when i am double clicking on it, it is not working. What are the problems? Please help me
    Dulal

    Hello,
Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
    But be careful:
Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.

  • Pro*Cobol for Oracle 10g Express Edition is available?

Hi to all, this is my first post here.
I evaluating Cobol to Oracle products and I have find one it´s more
We installed Oracle 10g Express Edition (Server and Client), to test compatibility of a Cobol product.
This product requires the "rtsora" component, from Pro*Cobol, but we didn´t find it in any place in the instalation packages.
The documentation show the precompilers to be at $ORACLE_HOME/precomp but there is only two folders (admin and lib) with "ottcfg" files. Nothing more
Searching this and anothers foruns, I became to think if the precompilers facilities, like Pro*Cobol, may be available to the 10g Express Edition for Linux, OR, if this is a feature available only to the Standart Editions (or Windows)?
The instalation and users manuals appears to don´t distinguish the 10g standart from the Express Edition. Also, the Express Edition doesn´t ask for any kind of "customization oprtions" as I read about in another topics.
    Edited:
1 - We are using this on Linux Ubuntu.
2 - The Windows 10g Express Edition appears to be more complete, but I need to run this on Express Edition.
    Thanks in advance!
    (sorry bad english)

There is no official communication on 11G express edition release date .
You will have to wait and watch Oracle Official website for that .

  • 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 x64 with Active Directory

I have successfully installed the 10g Express Edition on Windows 2008 Ent. r2 x64 with Microsoft Active Directory Domain Controller but i could not be able to run http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Although i have run the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex on my another Windows 2008 R2 x64 ant WITHOUT Active Directory Domain Controller Role.
i think its related with AD Domain server role of my server, because i run that on same config and operation without Active Directory Domain Controller role.
Can anyone help about this issue?
    thanks in advance

I have experienced the same problem - running 10g Express on a Win 2008 (32-bit). When not being a Domain controller, the install was fine. When installing after the server had been given the Domain Controller role (+the required DNS), it failed. NO FIREWALLS are involved on the server. Seems like Oracle Express has problems being installed in this kind of environment - independent of x32 or x64 bit OS.

  • Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 3 Install Problems

I made three install attempts for this software, and I'll detail them below.
This was a fresh install on a computer that previously had no other version running
    ATTEMPT 1
The installation procedure ran, but even though the OracleServiceXE service started, the server wouldn't work and I couldn't connect to it.
    c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log contained the following...
    SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
    ERROR:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
    SQL> set echo on
    SQL> //create or replace directory DB_BACKUPS as 'D:\utils\oraclexe\app\oracle\flash_recovery_area';

    ORA-01012: not logged on
    SQL> connect "SYS"/"&&sysPassword" as SYSDBA
    ERROR:
    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
I proceeded to uninstall and then reinstall in attempt 2.
    ATTEMPT 2
This time, the installation procedure ran but didn't finish. It got up to the point where it said "Creating and starting services for Oracle Database 10g Express Edition..." and it sat there for a long time doing nothing, but there was a process "IDriver.exe" using a large percentage of the CPU all that while.
I ended up having to kill the installation process with the task manager to stop it, and then since the installation wasn't successful had to manually delete everything in c:\oraclexe
    ATTEMPT 3
This time the installation went a lot better and after the install, everything in c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\config\log\postDBCreation.log looks normal.
I am able to connect to the database with sqlplus now, but the OracleXETNSListener process won't start.
When starting, it says this, but the OracleXETNSListener doesn't stay running:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleXETNSListener
The OracleXETNSListener service was started successfully.
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN>net start OracleServiceXE
    The OracleServiceXE service is starting.
The OracleServiceXE service was started successfully.
If I start the service in the windows services application it says "The OracleXETNSListener service on Local Computer started and then stopped..."
However, if I explicitly run c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\bin\tnslsnr.exe from the commandline, it works.
Why won't it start as a service?

    Hello
    I have the same problem.
    My config :
    - XP SP 2
    Other installed products :
    - last version Oracle JDevelopper
    - Oracle Client 9.2.0 (the service does not run)
    By the way,
JDev needs ORACLE_HOME set (c:\oracle for me).
Should Oracle XE be installed in %ORACLE_HOME% too or in an new empty folder (like c:\oraclexe) as it is recommended by the installer
I checked if I already use the port 1521 using netstat /ab but it seems this port is not used.
On a second PC, it works well.
How can I access the DB on my secondary PC from jdev on my priomary PC?
--> how can I only install OracleXE client on my primary PC?

  • Installing Discoverer with Database Version Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello,
Is it possilbe to install Discoverer with database version Oracle 10g Express Edition? I have Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 on my Windows XP machine as well. If so, can someone please provide me a link to the Discoverer download.
    Regards,
    Kelly

Note that the Personal Edition of the database is 'the most powerful' version, in that it contains all features and options of the Enterprise Edition (expect RAC and Enterprise Manager packs)
As such, the Personal Edition, at a mere USD$400-500 is one of the most cost effective for-fee products that Oracle has in it's inventory. It is targeted at the developer. And it comes with the complete set of Sample Data, whereas XE has a very limited subset (since it does not support all functionality).
Express Edition is indeed free, but it is not supported, and can not be patched. OTOH it does have a lighter footprint.
Again, I am not sure whether Disco 11g is compatible with Express Edition. (It's on my schedule for December ...)

  • Is Oracle 10g Express Edition compatible with Windows 2000 advanced Server

I have installed Oracel 10g Express Edition on windows 2000 advanced Server, but it is not working properly, but when i installed it on Windows 2000 Professional, then it is working properly, Does anybody know why this is happening. If anybody know why this is happening, please tell me and also tell me how can i install Oracle10g xe in Windows 2000 advanced server.

There should be no issues. A few possible reasons you are running into problems:
    - installation using a domain administrator (it works best using a local admin);
    - firewalls or anti-virus software or other port blocking mechanisms;
    - DHCP resets;
However, unless you tell us exactly the symptoms we are only guessing.
