  • Do i need to install 10gr1 before installing 10gr2

My assumption was that i don't need to install 10gr1 before installing 10gr2, but when i downloaded "10g Release 2 (10.2) for AIX 5L Based Systems (64-Bit)" from otn website, Its size was only 1.2GB and after i unzip and did cpio command, It only extracted "Disk1"
    thanks.

As of Oracle10g, they have reorganizsed their install and disk layout.
The database code and minimum configuration is installed only from disk 1, options and extensions are on the Companion CD and Client things including the 10g version of 9i Java OEM console are on the Client CD. Each is separate.

  • Is it possible to change NLS_CHARACTERSET after installing 10gR2 database ?

    Hi, all.
I need to change NLS_CHARACTERSET because of the ORA-29275 error.
    SELECT * FROM NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS
    WHERE PARAMETER LIKE '%CHARACTER%';
Server Side : HP unix, oracle 8i 8.1.7.4
    PARAMETER     VALUE
    NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS     .,
    NLS_CHARACTERSET     KO16KSC5601
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     KO16KSC5601
Client Side : Window xp, oracle 10gR2
    PARAMETER     VALUE
    NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS     .,
    NLS_CHARACTERSET     KO16MSWIN949
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET     AL16UTF16
Thus, I would like to change NLS_CHARACTERSET and NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET parameters.
The above is the default value.
Is it possible to change those parameters after installing 10gR2 on windows xp?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It is possible to migrate from certain character sets to anothers, but not allways. However, if it's a fresh installation, I recommend to create a new instance and delete this one you just created.
You don't need to reinstall Oracle, just create a new instance. Character sets are instance related.

  • Can i install 10gR2 on AIX while 10gR1 db running?

    Hello,
Can I install 10gR2 on a machine that has 10gR1 running, on AIX, without bringing down the 10gR1 instance? I'm concerned about whether the rootpre.sh script will cause any problems while the other database is up.
    Thanks.

Should not be a problem as long as you intstall 10gR2 into a seperate directory.
    ex. /oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1

  • Install 10gR2 on SLES9 w/ RAC/ASM

    Hello,
I am going to install 10gR2 on SLES9 w/ RAC/ASM. Is there any step-by-step guide for it? Does 10gR2 ASM still need the voting disk and OCR disk though 10gR1 needs them? What kind of best remote access client to the server can you recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

My question "Does 10gR2 ASM still need the voting disk and OCR disk " actually is that "Does 10gR2 Clusterware still need the voting disk and OCR disk?".
    Thanks.

  • Install 10gr2 ASM on single node, need clusterware installe first?

Install 10gr2 ASM on single node, Do I need install clusterware first?
When I install clusterware on single node, it shows " the specified nodes are not clusterable"
    Thanks.

ASM and clusterware are two separate things. Clusterware is required only if you are setting up a RAC environment, is this your case? If you are just planning to use ASM then proceed with the RDBMS (database disk) install and use the DBCA to perform ASM configuration. It is assumed you have the raw devices ready to setup the ASM instance. Once the ASM instance is ready you can create the database to use the ASM disks.

  • How to Install 10gr2 SQL Plus client

    Hi All,
We have oracle database 10gr2 located at our server.
But in our local machine SQL*PLUS Client, I am getting the below message

That means I have Oracle 9i client installed on my local machine and connecting to 10gr2 database.
So to have 10g client, do I need to install the Oracle 10gr2 database in my local machine. (Download 600+Mb of Software from OTN and install) Or is there any where that I can have 10g client on my Local machine.
    Appreciate your response,

Madhu K.You can continue to use the 9i client, or you can install the 10g client. You do not have to install the 10g database, but I believe you have to download the database media, as the client is not packaged separately. Just choose "client" as an install option.

  • Link error, install 10gR2 on RHAS4 u2 on IBM pSeries

I'm installing Oracle 10gR2 on RHAS 4 update2, the hardware is IBM pSeries. During the link stage, I got several link error, the first one is precomp, the error message from make.log is here:
    Linking /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/precomp/lib/proc
    /usr/lib/gcc/ppc64-redhat-linux/3.4.4/libgcc_s_64.so: undefined reference to `__libc_stack_end'

    make: *** [opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db/precomp/lib/proc] Error 1
I'm unable to get a workaround so I click continue to ignore it, but then a serie of errors occured, all are complaining "undefined reference to `__libc_stack_end'". However, the install goes smooth on a rhas4 update1 system.
Does this mean 10gR2 for Linux on POWER does not support rhas4 update2? or I'm missing something? Any suggestion's appreciated!

im having a problem too, i can't launch the application gui. This machine hasn't any video card, so no X server, only ssh or vnc session. Any help?

  • Efficient way to install 10gR2 client to Windows XP workstations in an ADS

Can it be done? Is there a silent install option? What about distributing patch updates? A search in metalink for "client ads" returned pretty much nothing. I was surprised. Our scale is maybe 20 machines, so not that big. But automation that's cheap to set up would be a great asset.
    Thanks very much.

It is possible to install in silent mode, please check this document link for further references:
