    In order to run Windows Applications, you must own the applications and, since they require Windows, you must own Windows. There are technologies like wine that will allow Windows applications to run without Windows, but they tend to be flakey at best.

  • Speedgrade CC 2014.2 build 8.2x51 unsmooth/choppy 4K playback with GPU R9 295x2 - it uses only 2 GB of RAM (Windows 8.1 64Bit), Mac OS - same problem

    Hello, guys
    I have following configuration:
    i7-5960x @ 4.3 GHz
    32 GB DDR4 RAM
    ATI 295x2 8GB (Gpusniffer.exe shows 3072 MB on each Hawaii unit)
    M.2 Ultra Samsung XP941 (>1000Mb/sec)
    Few 850 Pro SSD for H.264 4k source
    Latest Speedgrade CC build at 16/02/2015 (DUAL MONITOR SETUP - 2560x1440 for Interface and 4096x2160 for Preview)
    I work with a lot of short 10-15 seconds 4K 4096x2160 24FPS H.264 clips from Panasonic GH4. Import them to Premiere CC as is, some warp stabilization, cut them, save project and open in Speedgrade CC. Everything is fantastic smooth in Premiere CC.
    In Speedgrade - some simple color correction - Exposition, some keyframes and the most simple grading for some material. I use GPU acceleration for sure to have full 4096x2160 4K 24FPS. But it is not responsive and smooth after some correction is applied. Everything is choppy and freezes first seconds, when I press "PLAY". I used Resources monitor, Task manager (Winodws 8.1 64-bit) and Afterburner. And there is what I found out:
    Afterburner shows utilization of single GPU (as we know for playback only 1 GPU used) the same amount like in Premiere. Speedgrade CC uses 2,5GB VRAM. By the way, if I use some none-gpu-accelerated effect, like "transform", for example, imported from Premiere, I will get "Not enough GPU resources" message in Speedgrade. Afterburner shows, that Speedgrade CC tried to utilize more, then max. available VRAM 3GB during this moment. So I switch off such effects, before open project in Speedgrade.
    Processor is also low on utilization (15%), maybe even a little lower, then in Premiere CC
    Disk - 3-10%, H.264 is low on it
    RAM !!! - is the problem. I allowed to use 29 GB of RAM to Adobe apps. Speedgrade CC uses not more, then 2-3 GB according to Taskmanager (mostly 2GB) and Resources Monitor of Windows 8.1 64Bit Pro. After I finished with color correction, opened project in Premiere CC, everything works smooth with lumteri on and! Premiere CC uses 9-10 GB of RAM to play the same clip at full resolution smoothly!!!
    I already reinstalled everything, including drivers for GPU, Windows 8.1 and Adobe CC. Same result.
    Macbook Pro Retina 15 late 2013 with i7-4960HQ/16gb RAM/Geforce 750m UPDATE!
    Under Mac Os Yosemite 10.10.2 - same situation here. Premiere CC uses 5GB (of 11GB available) for 4096x2160 Prores 422 HQ and is usable, smooth with some frame drops.
    Speedgrade CC uses 2,5 GB of RAM for 4096x2160 and it is impossible to use full 4096x2160. Only 1/2 Resolution for preview is smooth and usable at notebook display. At external 4096x2160 monitor connected through Thunderbolt it is much more choppy, I think it is hard for 750m with 2 GB of VRAM.
    UPDATE! Previous version (CC 2014) of Premiere CC and Speedgrade CC under Windows 8.1 64-bit - same situation.
    What do you think?
    My opinion - Speedgrade CC is not optimized for 4K resolutions. Premiere CC is good for 4K.
    btw, for information, latest AMD catalyst omega driver 14.12 has a problem with my R9 295x2 and Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) OpenCL - just the black screen with sound, when I turn on GPU acceleration. So I use previous 14.9 version. With 14.12 GPUsniffer.exe found one GPU device with 4Gb of VRAM and one GPU with 3GB of VRAM (normally must be 3GB+3GB for 295x2 Dual GPU-chip radeon).

    So, I got MSI 290x 8GB tested and... found out that I can't use 8GB of VRAM, because there are some AMD driver limitations!!!
    1. I switched off my 295x2 8Gb (4GB+4GB) to be sure, it will not affect VRAM amount.
    2. I launched Gpusniffer utility with 14.9 AMD driver and 3072 Mb VRAM was available ONLY! It worked like 295x2 with 3072 + 3072 Mb VRAM.
    3. I installed 14.12 AMD Omega driver and GPUsniffer informed that I have now 8192 Mb!!! But! Mercury Playback Engine did not work with Premiere Pro CC or Speedgrade CC as with my 295x2. Just black screen.
    RGB and Luma at 0 and preview is black with 14.12 AMD driver. Premiere PRO - the same situation.
    With 14.9 AMD Driver. Left 2560*1440 Dell working area monitor and 4096*2160 preview LG monitor right side.
    With 14.9 Gpusniffer shows 3 and 3 and 3GB Vram instead of 4GB and 4GB and 8Gb. As I understood with CrossfireX switched off - Adobe products and their GPUsniffer utility could "find" and use 8GB on primary GPU, but again we can see AMD driver issues.
    Single 290x 8GB with 14.9 AMD driver also displays only 3072 Mb available in Gpusniffer.
    NEATVIDEO informed on their website in Bugs section about 14.12 driver problem with MPE. They also wrote about problem to AMD, so I did. I think, this is really bad story. So, AMD, we are awaiting for normal drivers.

  • Installing AUTHENTIC windows 7 ultimate 64bit on Macbook Pro - ERROR, help!

    I am trying to install windows 7 ultimate 64bit (not the beta or RC, this is an authentic windows 7 DVD -- signature edition) on my macbook pro using Bootcamp. When the computer tries to reboot, i get a message that says:
    1.
    2.
    select cd-rom boot type:"
    I saw forum posts with this problem where people were using improperly burned windows 7 versions, however, this is not a burned DVD -- its authentic from microsoft. This means i cant reburn the dvd...
    Any suggestions?!

    Did you by any chance install Snow Leopard on your MacBook Pro?
    My MacBook Pro was working perfectly fine. Installed windows many times the last 2-3 years and never had problems.
    I installed Snow Leopard a couple weeks ago and since then I get this exact same error with all my Windows Install discs (ones that always worked before!).
    Whatever I do. I can't get any Windows installed anymore.
    The discs are fine, Bootcamp menu reads it and recognise it. But the moment you try boot from it you end up with the error the OP is describing!
    And all this, after I installed Snow Leopard. Restoring to previous versions of MacOSX did not help!
    So it seems that the Snow Leopard installation does something to the DVD drives on the MacBook Pro's (upgrading firmware whatever) and now it's ruined!!

  • ScanJet 8270 ISIS/TWAIN Drivers and Utilities cannot be installed on Windows 8.1 64Bit

    Hello, I've tried to install all the drivers for my ScanJet 8270 on a  Windows 8.1 64Bit System. The standard twain and wia drivers installation worked perfect, but when trying to install the "ISIS/TWAIN Drivers and Utilities" the setup hangs (I'm using version 3.0 from 20 Aug 2014 which is currently the latest one). The setup starts, shows a progess bar while extracting the files, but after that nothing happens. After a while I've took a look into Windows task manager and saw, that the process is still running, but doing nothing (no CPU or other resource usage). On Windows 7 everything worked fine, but not on Windows 8. Although the scanner is advertised to work under Windows 8 and this driver is also listed on the driver downlaod page for Windows 8 it's not possible to get it installed on Windows 8. Is HP not testing the setups before shipping them? What can I do to get this driver to run on my PC? Is anyone out there having the same problems and solved them already? Thanks for your advices Sven

    Hello, Thank you for posting your query This looks like there is no action from the software setup after a while on Windows-8. Please try the following steps 1. Open the run prompt in your computer and type "msconfig"2. In the system configuration utility, select the "services" tab3. Check the option " Hide all microsoft services"4. All the Programs, other than Microsoft Windows services would be listed now5. Locate any conflicting programs and uncheck them in the window6. Restart the computer and try to run the installation again Please Note: keep a record of the programs you are unchecking as after the installation you may need to check them back in the same screen Do not uncheck any Microsoft service from the list as it may be critical for your computer's function. If doubtful. • "Invalid printer specified" for 32bit Windows Service in 64bit Server

    Hi All,
    I'm having some issues with crystal reports.
    My development environment:
    Visual Studio 2008, 32bit Windows XP
    Running environment:
    Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 64 bit
    Crystal Reports Basic Runtime for Visual Studio 2008 (x86)
    I've created two applications: one is console application and one is windows service. Both application run same codes to print crystal reports to printers and run at 32 bit. I can have multiple instance of console application running without any issues. When I run the windows service version, the first time the service works fine. But after I restarted the windows server, the crystal report throw Sysstem.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException.
    The detail of the exception is:
    System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80000201):
    Invalid printer specified.
       at CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintOutputControllerClass.ModifyPrinterName(String newVal)
       at CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.PrintOptions.set_PrinterName(String value)
       at Company.PrintReport(ReportClass report, String printerName)
    Both console application and windows service run at 32 bits. The user runs the service is domain controller who has admin permission. And the same problem happened on an web application hosted on IIS of the same server.
    What I've done so far:
    1. Set the printer option in the report to no printer
    2. Try install the crystal report x64
    3. For the windows service build for x86.
    Please some one help me in this.
    Cheers

    That is a rather strange issue.
    Make sure you are killing the report object once you're doen with it. E.G;
    Dim report as New ReportDocument
    Protected Sub Page_load()
    End Sub
    Private Page_Unload()
    report.close()
    report.dispose()
    GC.Collect
    End Sub
    //C# (on form open):
    private void WebForm1_Init(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
        if (boReportDocument != null)
            boReportDocument.Close();
            boReportDocument.Dispose();
            GC.Collect();
    // C# on form close
    private void Page_Unload(object sender, EventArgs e)
            if (boReportDocument != null)
            { boReportDocument.Close();
                boReportDocument.Dispose();
                GC.Collect();
    If closing and disposing does not help, is htis happening on your dev computer or after you move that app to another server?

  • [SOLVED] pacman keeps trying to install 32bit packages on my 64bit OS

    Hi,
    I have just installed Arch linux first time (ISO as of 01 Nov). My OS should be 64bit (my hw is 64bit) but pacman fails on any package I try to install.
    Example
    $ pacman -S grub
    error: failed to prepare transaction (package architecture is not valid)
    :: package grub-1:2.02.beta2-5-i686 does not have a valid architecture
    So it tries to install 32bit package (and fails), but why?
    My system:
    $ uname -a
    Linux archiso 3.17.1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 15 15:04:35 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    I checked /etc/pacman.conf:
    Architecture = auto
    and /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist (the first three entries are shown; all of the mirrors have the same format):
    ## Score: 0.3, Germany
    Server = http://mirror.gnomus.de/$repo/os/$arch
    ## Score: 0.3, France
    Server = http://archlinux.polymorf.fr/$repo/os/$arch
    ## Score: 0.5, Netherlands
    Server = http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    And it is not only grub, it is any package (e.g. gamin, lxde)

  • Why isnt iTunes installing ona windows 8.1 64bit asus laptop?

    I'm having trouble installing itunes on a asus laptop with windows 8.1 64bit. Install goes well unill i get the message Apple Mobile Device service fails to start. I've unstalled and removed all apple related files on my pc.. rebooted and tried reinstalling but no succes. What can i do?

    Run through the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates up until the moment that you would install iTunes.
    Download a fresh copy of the iTunesSetup.exe or iTunesSetup64.exe installer from the direct links in the further information area of the user tip.
    Download and install 7-Zip (free), or a free trial of WinRAR, and use one of them to extract the contents of the installer file.
    Install the .msi components in alphabetical order, ignoring iCloudSetup.msi which is for Vista only and the SetupAdmin,exe file which is the normal installer. Even if AMDS won't install you may get a more useful error message as to why not.

  • Can I install "just" windows XP on my mac mini?  no bootcamp. no parallels

    Hi,
    The question is can I (and how can I) install only the windows xp home or professional OS on a mac mini 1.5 core solo (i.e., turning it into a windows only machine). I want to be cIear that I don't want to duel-boot (i.e., boot camp) or use a VM (ie., parallels), but just a regular x86 computer that is running (sigh with me) Windows.
    I imagine that if I do a clean and proper format of the mac mini, start it up and insert the Windows disk, everything will work.
    Another question I have is, after 2 years, will I be able to put OS X back on? (Let's assume I have backed up all my files on an external drive.)
    Mac mini

    Hi Matthew!
    Boot Camp will be the closest you'll come to your goal. A Mac is afterall intended to run Mac OS software first and foremost and Windows is only a secondary OS. But it is possible to boot into Windows after using Boot Camp to get it installed and then delete the Mac partition. You can always reinstall the Mac OS later.
    Or you can still use Boot Camp to get Windows installed and just never boot back into Mac OS X (leaving it on its own partition). But why have Apple hardware just to do that? You'd be better off selling your Mac Mini and purchasing an Intel machine that will run Windows natively.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • SCRIPTED INSTALL of Windows XP on a Mac - possible?

    Hi everyone.
    I've been tasked with getting our standard Windows build onto our new lab Macintosh's (for dual booting between Windows and Mac OS). Normally we would reload from a floppy image which connects over the network to the folder containing the unattended installation files and settings, or failing that from a USB stick, or CD/DVD containing the files.
    Unfortunately if I plug in a USB floppy drive containing the standard boot floppy, the Mac OS firmware ignores it, and likewise with a valid USB stick. For the CD/DVD image the install fails asking for some of the files on the CD (clad.inf or something similar IIRC), and as you have no keyboard control you can't tell it to ignore this and continue to see if it would build successfully without the skipped files.
    Has anyone managed to get a unattended Windows XP build onto a Mac? If so, could you share your pearls of wisdom?
    Cheers,
    Mark

    I guess this is going to be the usual and I'm going to have to solve this myself
    Oh well.
    If anyone else is getting the cyclad-z.inf, cyclom-y.inf, utopia~1.wav etc not copying problem, try formatting your source CD with DOS name space, not whatever your burning software has as it's standard.

  • I have 3 year old IPOD 20GB  installed in Windows not work with MAC

    Hello anyone who can help
    my Ipod has the round dial in middle and the 4 buttons above it if this helps anyone. I bought it 3 years ago for $399
    I installed it on my windows pc and always worked great
    Now my Ipod software it came with does not work on my Macbook
    Itunes recognizes the Ipod but all the songs installed are disabled
    I tried to reset to original settings which formats everything and it did erase everything but cannot add my songs back from my Macbook
    can someone give me a link to the software I can install? to reconfigure the IPOD to my MAC
    Or is it that once it is configured to Windows you cannot use it to add or remove songs from your MAC???????????????????????
    Please help - I want to give this IPOD to my sister and want to buy a new one
    I never used more then 1 gig out of 20gb - has no video or photo options
    Thank you
    Edward

    "Itunes recognizes the Ipod but all the songs installed are disabled"
    What does that mean? "Disabled"?
    How are you tring to add songs from your Macbook? Are you using the auto sync option or manual?
    When you say reset to factory settings, do you mean a restore?
    See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.
    That would've installed the up to date software on your iPod.
    Which computer did you restore it on?

  • Installed 32bit by mistake. Can I reinstall to get 64bit,from recovery?

    I installed 32bit Windows 7 Premium by mistake. I should have installed 64bit Windows 7 Premium.
    This is a new Satellite L630, fro JB HiFi. When first started, it asks a series of questions, then asks what OS you want. 32 or 64bit.
    Because the following instructions were very technical - wanting me to format the whole disk etc, I exited. Next restart brought me up to the 32bit install.
    Which works fine. But I really want 64bit.
    I don't have recovery disks - only I'm supposing the recovery on the Hidden Partition.
    My question is - will doing the steps of the Recovery, (power on, hold 0, start recovery ) allow me to then select 64bit and start the system again.
    or will I lose the whole lot !!!
    thanks guys.

    Hello
    > only I'm supposing the recovery on the Hidden Partition.
    There is no hidden partition!!! Read your user manual!!!
    Fact is only thing that you can try is using HDD recovery option and hope that you will be asked again if you want 32bi or 64bit.
    In worst case you need a recovery disk from Toshiba

  • How do I install Microsoft Office 2013 on my Mac via my Windows 8 Parallels Desktop 8 partition?

    I recently bought a copy of Windows 8, Microsoft Office 2013 and Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac.
    I wanted to install a Windows partition on my Mac so that I could run MS Office 2013 on a virtual machine.
    I set up the VM, and everything was looking fine and worked smoothly.
    Then, when I inserted the MS Office 2013 disk into the CD drive, nothing happened!
    I tried to install MS Office 2013 but to no avail.
    Does anyone know how to overcome this issue?
    Thanks.

    In the Configure menu item, under Virtual Machine, configure the CD/DVD to be recognized by your SuperDrive:
    The only drawback is that you have to quit Parallels for the drive to be recognized by the Mac again.
    I just purchased the Office 365 subscription for both Office 2011 on my Mac and Office 2013 on my Windows 7 side - sure makes life simpler, and less expensive.
