Installing 3tb internal drive in hp z400

I need to install a 3tb internal drive in a z400. Does anyone know if it can handle it or will I need any updates, drivers, etc.?

Want 1TB Windows partition on 3TB internal drive

I was able to successful finally get a Windows (Boot Camp) partition on my 3TB internal drive (see this thread), but it allocated 2TB to Windows. Loner T explained why this was, but said that it was possible to get 1TB for Mac OSX, 1TB for Windows, and the last 1TB as ColdStorage for Mac OSX. I would like to do this, if anyone (Loner T?) has the instructions).
Also is it possible to link the two Mac OSX partitions so that it looks and acts as a single drive. (I am assuming that ColdStorage does that by default, but if not, my question stands.)

Could not see my photos after Installing new internal drive

Aaarrgghhh! I installed a new internal drive to keep data separate from applications, transferred all the data to the new drive and now all the work I did in sorting thousands of photos has gone, same with iTunes. Does anytone know how to restore my categories of photos and tunes?

Before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff: What version of iPhoto. What version of the Operating System. Details. What were you doing when the problem arose? Did it ever work properly? Step-by-step descriptions of how you got to this issue. If something doesn't work, are there error messages? What happens when you try to do this thing? And what steps have you tried already to solve the issue. With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that a helper is simply guessing. With information, s/he may be able to get your issue resolved sooner.

Installed new internal drive - how can I lock it

I installed a second internal drive. We have 3 users in out family and each have there own desktops. The second internal drive is for my video files and I want to keep it from being trashed or ejected by my other family members since it's on their desktop. Any way to do this?

Permission settings determine who can view and alter an item. To control access to items, Mac OS X automatically sets permissions for disks, folders, and files. To change these permissions, select your drive with the Finder and then choose File > Get Info. In the Get Info window, if the Sharing & Permissions pane is not visible, click the disclosure triangle to show it. This pane should show that "You can read and write" plus a list of users and privilege. The default privileges for a Volume with a GUID Partition and formated to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) should be: "system" has "Read & Write", "admin" has "Read & Write" & "everyone" has "Read only". To keep it away from other users, click the lock icon, type in your administrator's name and password then click OK. Now click on the "Read only" privileges next to everyone and change it to "No Access" from the popup box.
Test this out before saving or moving any important stuff to this drive and let me know if this worked.

Cannot Partition 3TB Internal Drive for Bootcamp

I have read a number of threads and tried a number of things from various websites to get my iMac to use Bootcamp, but no luck. It was so easy with my MacBook Pro. :^/
The basic problem is that when I start with a single, internal 3TB drive with a brand, new clean install of Yosemite, I get the message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.
The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
To get past this I go into Disk Utility and resize the partition from 3TB to 2TB. This allows me to get past this screen and have Boot Camp partition the drive. Note that it shows the drive as 2TB and I divide it equally with 1TB for Mac and 1TB for Windows.
In the Windows installer the first thing you notice is that there are five partitions, and that the Windows partition is 1.8 TB, it having grabbed the empty space for itself. It complains that it cannot use the partition as it uses the GPT Partition Style, so I click the Format option to have it format as NTFS. But it still complains that it cannot use the partition because of its style.
Going back into the Mac OS and using Disk Utility, I try and reformat the partition to ExFAT and it starts to, but fails indicating that it is not supported for Core Storage.
I have been through this cycle several times now. I thought the issue previously was because of an older version of OS X. I then upgraded and found the same issue. So in order to change the partition style I finally wiped the drive using Disk Utility from a bootable USB and reinstalled Yosemite cleanly.
If I missed a step or option somewhere I am willing to wipe the drive again. I just need to know what to change. Here is the current state of my drive:

This is an example if the partitions are
GPT1 = MBR1 = EFI
GPT2 = MBR2 = OSX
GPT3 = MBR3 = Recovery HD
GPT4 = MBR4 = BOOTCAMP.
You will need to pick the correct order based on how you format the 3TB disk. Any GPT entry beyond the 2TB address will not be a part of the MBR.
Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 6. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers.

P (Print list of parts)
R   (Recover)
H (chooses Hybrid)
Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4
Y (Good for GRUB question)
N (part 2 boot flag)

3TB internal drive only recognised as 2TB

I bought a 3.5" 3TB drive today in PC World to be used as a second, data only drive in my pc. When I installed it, it wasn't listed in explorer. So I had a look in Disk Management and although it was listed, it was showing as one ~2TB and one ~1TB partitions. Both partitions were showing as not allocated. Windows let me create an active partition on the 2TB partition, but wouldn't let me do anything with the other one. So I tried a partition manager and it wouldn't let me do anything with the 2nd partition either.
The pc has an intel DQ965GF LGA775 motherboard, running Windows 7 Ultimate x86. I've checked the motherboard manual and BIOS update revision notes and there isn't anything to suggest a 3TB drive wouldn't be supported.

I think you are on the wrong place here.
In such case I think you need some help from your PC manufacturer support and not from HDD manufacturer.
Toshiba offers own products but cannot support functionality on hundreds different systems out there.
Contact mainboard manufacturer support and ask if there is some limitation.

Successfully installed new internal drives...now what?

I have searched...I promise.
Most likely I am just to ignorant too figure this out.
I took delivery of my new MacPro yesterday as well as 8g of RAM from OWC and two extra 1TB drives from OWC.
Stock config is 2x3.0ghz quad/2x1g RAM/1TB HD.
I successfully added the two additional hard drives and the RAM...when I go to about this Mac, it does see 10gb of RAM and in further details, the new hard drives in 2 and 3 bays.
When I first powered up the Mac, it came up with an unrecognized drive screen and gave me several partition and RAID options. I didn't know what to choose, so I exited out and can't seem to find that screen:)
Ultimately, my plan is to have two drives for OSX and one for Windows. I have a retail version of Windows on me...and I don't knoow what to do next.
Can anyone lend a hand?
i would like the second and third drives to show up on my OSX desktop as Windows and OSX saved data.
Any help would be incredible!

Failure of internal drives? Reliability concern....

I've just moved to a new Mac Pro after a catastrophic drive failure of my old one. The old one had the Apple OEM 250G internal drive and a WD 750G additional internal drive. The WD drive had 2 partitions, both of them Carbon Copy Cloner clones of the main drive. (One clone was an exact mirror, one clone was an incremental backup clone.) Both partitions were bootable clones, and I had booted from both in the past without any problems.
Both internal drives died at the same time. Disk Utility couldn't repair them. DriveWarrior couldn't repair them. I couldn't access either drive via Target Disk Mode or in safe mode or in single user mode -- I couldn't even open a directory window on either drive without getting a permanent spinning beach ball that required a hard power-off. I removed the drive with the clones, and took the machine in to the Apple Store with just the original drive in place. They told me it was a bad drive. The other drive was displaying the same symptoms, and I'm assuming that it's bad too.
So.... BOTH drives failed, pretty much at the same time. I find it hard to believe that two drives failed simultaneously on their own. I tend to think it must have been some "original cause" that killed both, although I have no idea what that cause might be.
I'm now in search of a reliable "bootable clone" backup system. I'm not worried about my user data. Retrospect runs every night and backs up my entire user directory to DVDs, and that saved my bacon so that I didn't lose everything. Retrospect restored all my data files from my user directory within a few hours. I also have cron scripts that run that backup my MySQL databases every night.
But..... losing my main drive and my clones was almost as bad as losing my data. I had a custom apache file with tons of virtual hosts, the Entropy php packages, PEAR and PEAR packages, ImageMagick, mysql, various unix utilities and CPAN modules.... In short, a highly customized system that is not easily re-creatable when you're starting from a fresh system install. Several days after bringing the new Mac Pro home, I'm almost back to where I was.
I had always thought that having not one but two bootable clones would protect me against this situation. It turned out I was wrong.
I've already decided that my two clones will never again be separate partitions on the same drive, since a drive failure means both clones are gone. And I'll have at least 3 clones, on 3 separate drives -- two mirrors along with the incremental backup.
Is there any risk in having my bootable clones as internal drives? Could something in the old computer have caused the drive failures? The ease of installing additional internal drives seduced me into using an internal drive, and now I wonder if that was a mistake. Would I be better off cloning to external FW drives? In the past, I had always cloned to external drives, and I've never had one fail. I'm wondering if I should invest in multiple external FW drives, rather than internal SATA drives.
Can anyone provide any insight as to why two internal drives would fail at the same time? This is the part that has me most concerned, and it's why I bought a new machine, rather than simply replacing the drive in the old one. I don't think I could ever fully trust the old machine again, because it seems like there had to be something going on to cause simultaneous drive failure.
Is SuperDuper more reliable than Carbon Copy Cloner for making bootable clones? I've never had problems with CCC in the past..... but while I'm re-evaluating my backup strategy it seems worth looking into.
Is it worth it to boot from another volume in order to have CCC or SD do a block-level clone, rather than a file-level clone? I haven't usually done that in the past, but if will save me from another week in ****, I'll spend that extra few minutes on a regular basis.
Is there any other cloning system that's more reliable than CCC or SD?
What can I do to protect against multiple simultaneous drive failure?
Bottom line: What's most important to me is a bootable clone of my entire system. I can spend the money for the most appropriate internal or external drives.

TDM is firmware, so it's tied to the motherboard. But if the old machine tested out OK but the drives still are dead, then I guess it was simultaneous failure even though that would be rare, statistically.
I do not use my mirrored RAID except as the backup for my system drive. A mirrored RAID is made up of two identical drives (not necessary but less likely to have problems if the drives are identical) in which one drive acts as a mirror of the other. The RAID configuration automatically writes to the second drive in the RAID anything that's written to the first drive in the RAID. See the following for more info on RAIDs:

My second internal drive ejects improperly

I installed an optical drive when I purchased my iMac in June 2012. When my iMac falls asleep the otical drive ejects and I have to restart to remount it since disk doctor can't see it. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to solve it?

I misspoke, I installed a 2nd internal hard drive, a Fusion 2 TB drive. It "ejects improperly" when the iMac is put to sleep. I've set up energy preferences to either put the hard drive to sleep whenever possible and have also checked that option off with the same results. I create aliases on the side bar for easy access to folders on that drive that disappear when this happens and I have to keep recreating them. I installed the internal drive to avoid the issue of external drives ejecting improperly which forces me to restart my machine or the ext. drive. I also wanted to take advantage of the speed gain from the internal connection. I can't find any info with anyone else having this problem. The Fusion drive is partitioned into 3 volumes. I'm going to reformat it into 1 and see if that makes a difference.

I have a Mac Pro 2009 model..
it has the factory-installed drive, of course, which I'm using as a boot volume.
I have also installed 2 internal drives into available drive slots.
1 I use as my active work files drive.
the other, identical drive I'd like to have Time machine back up the contents of the one user-installled internal drive to.
Can I do this?

simply because in the discussions of Time Machine I've seen so far, the term "external drive" is used.
I think that's a convention more than a design/requirement.

RE: SATA Bus speed:
Typical Rotating drives available today, whatever their SATA spec, can source data off the spinning platters no faster than about 125MBytes/sec.
SATA 3 is rated at 6G bits/sec, which theoretically is about 750 Mega Bytes/sec
SATA 2 is rated at 3G bits/sec, which is theoretically about 375 Mega Bytes/sec
SATA 1 is rated at 1.5G bits/sec, which is theoretically about 187.5 Meg Bytes/sec
None of the SATA Busses is a bottleneck for consumer Rotating drives you can buy today. Trying to speed up the SATA Bus will not provide any real-world performance increases for Rotating Drives.

If the drive is correctly installed on to the sled, and the mounting screws are snug, not tight, and the sled is inserted properly so that all the roof-tangs catch as the sled is inserted, failure to show up in Disk Utility means the drive is not useable.
A Bug in 10.8.4 and later precludes Disk Utility ERASE-ing large drives in Internal bays. Use PARTITION only, and create one new partition, GUID partition Map, Mac OS Extended (journaled) Volume.

1. You cannot use the Lenovo external drive, because you already have a built-in SuperDrive. Get your internal drive fixed.
2. Your Mac does not support EFI Boot, because it is a PreUEFI model based on How to identify MacBook Pro models - Apple Support and the following list. If you force it with EFI boot, some of your hardware GPU/Audio will not work properly.

After installing Yosemite beta on external drive, Mavericks doesn't startup from the internal drive

After I installed OS X Yosemite Beta on my external hard drive, my Macbook Pro no longer recognises and boots from the Mavericks partition on my internal drive. instead, it starts up the Yosemite installer even when the external drive is not connected.
And when holding the option key during startup, it shows 2 partitions: "OS X Installer" (that I've not created) and "Recovery-10.9.5". However from the system preferences in Yosemite, the partition is shown as a startup disk. and also i can see the Macintosh HD partition and its contents in Yosemite.
Any idea how to make it boot normally when turning on the macbook? any help appreciated!

Try this:
Go to "System preferences"
Click on " Boot-up Disk" (4th row)
Select the disk you want to boot
Restart the computer
