Installing 8.0.5 on Red Hat 6.2

Hi everyone
I have to install Oracle 8.0.5 in Linux and it's the first time(I have installed Oracle in Solaris several times), so I have some doubts.
Is it the Red Hat 6.2 a good version in order to install Oracle 8.0.5 on it? Is necessary to install SO patch? Which are the usual problems installing Oracle in this SO? What must I know before begin the installation?
TIA
Carlos Alejo.

First,
download the patch anyway you can and then FTP it to you
linux server.
Second,
i was never able to install 8.0.5 on 6.0 redhat. So i
downgrade to redhat 5.2 and it's working fine.
GOOD LUCK! (you'll need it)

  • How to install Oracle 10g on to Red Hat Linux 5 Server

    I'm new to both Linux and Oracle. I've been working on an installion of Oracle 10g on a Red Hat Linux 5 Server for about 2 weeks. I've been doing a lot of reading about installing Oracle on a Linux environment. I finally got to the installation portion and the Oracle Installer displayed a message that I had to have Red Hat 4 or 4 Enterprise to continue.
    How can Install Oracle 10g onto a Red Hat 5 Linux Server"? Is there an option that I can use to bypass the OS checking?
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is no way to access metalink without a valid account. You could then just try to skip preinstall requisites with this clause:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    or this method:
    Copy the oraparam.ini from the installation source install/oraparam.ini to /tmp directory.
    Edit the file /tmp/oraparam.ini so this file reads:
    After
    [Certified Versions]
    Linux=redhat-3,SuSE-9,redhat-4,UnitedLinux-1.0,asianux-1,asianux-2,redhat-5
    also, make sure you have these packages installed:
    # rpm -ivh gcc-c++-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm gcc-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libstdc++-devel-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm glibc-devel-2.5-12.i386.rpm
    glibc-headers-2.5-12.i386.rpm libgomp-4.1.1-52.el5.i386.rpm
    libXp-1.0.0-8.i386.rpm compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-138.i386.rpm
    compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.i386.rpm

    HI,
    According to Oracle "Unix Installation/OS: RDBMS Technical Forum", it is not supported.
    I am pasting the final answer from one of the Oracle Analyst: (Hope it is OK)
    From: Oracle, Amit Podder 19-Aug-03 15:14
    Subject: Re : Does oracle support 9.2.0.2.0 on Redhat 7.X or 8.0
    Hi,
    AS of now Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition Version 9.2 is not certified on Red Hat 8.0.
    The information on future plans is not published so we are unable to convey any info on the same.

  • Installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2

    I got the following error when installing Oracle 9i on Linux Red Hat 7.2:
    Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
    jre was not found in /tmp/OraInstall/jre/bin/../bin/i586/green_threads/jre
    Any ideas how to fix the problem?
    Thanks

    Try installing 9i on RH 7.1. I don't believe 9i runs under 7.2 due to library incompatibilities.

  • Errors when installing SGD 4.5 on Red Hat Enterprise 5

    I have a customer installing SGD 4.5 on Red Hat Enterprise 5 and is getting the following errors:
    /opt/tarantella/bin/tarantella: /opt/tarantella/bin/bin/ttahostname: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
    The customer has indicated that they do not have a lib directory?
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !
    Thanks
    Jeff Holland

    Hi.
    Never tried under RH5 but, to me, it's pretty strange the customer does not have a /lib folder.
    Are you in the position to check if their RH5 system is correctly configured (ie, not screwed up)?
    Is that a 32bit or 64bit edition?
    Could you manually "inspect" the /lib folder to see if there's some contents on it?
    Last, under which user account is the customer installing SSGD? Is it operating as root user?
    As per the Web site, RH5 is a supported platform so you shouldn't have any problems.
    Cheers,
    Rob

    There must be some other messages.
    It could be that your .prd file does not match exactly with your installation or you have forgotten to do some stage in the installation procedure...
    These are only clues. Look at the .log files to see what happened.
    Good luck.
