Installing 8.1.6 Client on win 2000 - Compaq Evo

We have just had delivered a number of new Compaq Evo PCs with Windows 2000 and Compaq software pre-installed. On trying to install 8.1.6 Client nothing happens - the setup.exe does not run. We have tried closing the Compaq software that initiates at start up but that seems to make no difference. Has anyone else had similiar problems with Compaqs or knows how to get thiese install working?
Many thanks.
Phil

Are they Pentium 4 PC's? There's a known installation bug with the Oracle Universal Installer and Pentium 4's. If that's
the case one of the workarounds is to copy the entire CD to a temp directory on the PC, rename the file symcjit.dll to
symcjit.old and then run the setup.exe file from the temp\install\win32 directory on the PC.

  • Install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003 server

    Hello,
Is it possible to install Oracle SQL* Net 2.3(16 bit) Client on Windows 2003 server. If it is then could someone give me links from where I could get more information on this (like the steps to install 16 bit Oracle client on Win 2003).
    Thanks.

the 16-bit applications are not supported by Windows 2003 server x64 edition.

I have never tried to use 16-bit SQLNet client on Windows 2003 x86. I'm pretty sure that this combination will not be supported by Oracle , athough it could work.
As far as I remember the 2.3 client was shipped with the Oracle 7.3.
here is the desupport notice for Oracle 7

  • URGENT Cannot install Ora9i rel 2 Client on Win XP Pro SP2

    Hi folks:
I have a problem installing Oracle 9i in a "clean" machine with Win XP Pro SP2 with .NET 1.1 running on a P4@3GHz and 512MBytes of RAM and 30GBytes of HD free, when I start de UOI only appear de Oracle's splash screen and when I select install/Deinstall products, nothing happens (in the administrator task appear not response and close automatically).
I read a lot of solutions about this here, always the same result, NOTHING.
    - I rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.old (of course i copied the installation CD at the oracle subdirectory to avoid long directory paths)
    - Install a JDK 1.3 and 1.4 (and deinstall them after and clean the registry)
    - I login on windows with a user name without rare characters.
After trying all above and more that I've forgotten I try install a older version (8.1.7) but appear this message.
"There was a problem opening the staging area. Please make sure the 'Source' you have specified is valid"
of course the source is valid (products.jar) and I edited the oraparam.ini file to change the relative paths to absolute, but the same message appear.
¿I'm doing something wrong?¿incompatibilites between Oracle and Windows?
Thanks for any help, I need to resolve this problem ASAP!

Could it be a firewall blocking a port that Oracle needs?
Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP turns on the firewall by default.
Unless, there is a conflict somewhere with the installation program and what you already have installed. Such as, do you have a version of some Oracle software already installed?
Could it be a conflict with the Java runtime? The Oracle Universal Installer uses its own Java VM.
Have you tried downloading the latest client software for Oracle 9.2 and trying that?

  • AEX as client with Win 2000...Can it work?

I thought I was rather AirPort savvy after successfully wading through all my problems setting it up under XP. Then a friend asked if I could help him get his AEX up and running. Five hours later I am still at a loss. With an eathernet connection the airport admin software connects to the unit and all is well. But the unit still does nothing but flash amber when no wires are connected. He wants his Airport Express to join the existing wirless network. His setup is as follows:
    Windows 2000
Trendnet router (the same that I am using)
    No WEP or WPA protection
    Network name "wlan-g"
    No MAC filtering
    Server assigned DHCP/IP
Admin utility setup with the same details as above
Factory reset unit w/ latest firmware
Thanks in advace for any help

Presumably you followed David Lovell's instructions at:
David Lovell, "Airtunes for XP with a Wired/Wireless network" #1, 09:05pm Jan 8, 2005 CDT
If the PC running Windows 2000 can "see", view, and alter the configuration of the Airport Express, then the PC is not the cause of the problem.
I don't immediately see what you are doing wrong based on what you have told us. Long shot but - you might try renaming the router using only letters, numbers, and no punctuation like the "-" character.
Trying to go for excessive range, having the Airport Express located behind a pile of cables and stereo equipment, and radio interference from neighboring networks can also play a big role in preventing the Airport Express from communicating with the router.

  • IWS Install Failed on Win 2000

Hello - we are still trying to recover our install of iWS on Win 2000. The
uninstall.exe hangs. Attemtps to reinstall hang. When we try to start the
iWS services in service manager they also hang.
We are installing from the Forte for Java partnership CD. This is iWS 6.0
    Enterprise.
Please advise of the sequence of steps to erase all trace of the previous
installs (file directories, registry entries and anything else related) so
that we may reinstall iWS with a clean slate.

    Hi,
Please ensure the following before you install.
    - Have a fully qualified domainname which is mandatory. But for testing
purpose you can have DHCP running usually not recomended for production
    environment.
    - Installation platform for iWS 6.0 is Windows 2000 Server or Advanced
    server recomended.
    - If uninstallation hangs remove the entries from the services and remove
the associated folders and then go for reninstalling iWS 6.0
    - If the problem still persists, the only way to get rid is to clean the
registry of Windows and make a reinstallation.

Hey, I tried to install BDK1.1 on Win 2000 but I encountered plenty of problems
    1. Cannot find JVM during installation
sol: I select java.exe from jdk directory manually
    2. after install, cannot makeApplet, always give the IO exception when I try to makeApplet from BeanBox. Anyone knows the reasons

    Hi,
I like to elaborate my problems further. pls advise
I try to install DBK1.1 and i encountered some problems.
    1. During installation, JVM cannot be located and I manually choose
    java.exe at c:\jdk1.3.1_02\bin\java.exe
    2. after installation, i execute Beanbox and problems arise
    when I select makeApplet.
makeApplet process is not sucessfully and I receive the following error message.
    a. error dialog box
    "java.io.IOException: compilation failed!

  • Problems with installing Win 2000 on MS6380

    Hello,
I have a problem with installing Win 2000 SP 2 on a PC assembled with a MS 6380 (Kt 266 pro) mainboard.
The setup starts but the system blocks just after the boot, when showing the message "Detecting Hardware configuration" .
    The configuration is the following:
    Athlon TB 800
    MS 6380
    128 MB DDR
    Matrox G200
20 Gb Quantum Fireball CX HDD
    Intel Ethernet card 100 pro + S
I tried to update the Bios to the latest version (1.90) and set the most conservative settings on the RAM timings. I have disabled ACPI, too.
Could someone please help me with solving this problem?
    Thanks

You have format the BootCamp partition during the Windows installation, since OSX can only do a preformat using FAT32 (MS-DOS) and Windows 7 needs NTFS as file system.
See page 7 of the BootCamp Installation Guidehttp://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • Latest ASU 2.1 fails to install on Win 2000?

I was offered the update to ASU 2.1 by ASU today on two machines, and accepted the download. While this worked fine on my Win XP laptop, my Win 2000 desktop reported an installation failure and suggested that I'd "download only" the update and install by hand.
When I try this, I get the following error message (translated from German):
    +Error registering module: C:\Programme\Apple Software Update\ScriptingObjectModel.dll. HRESULT -2147024769. Please contact support.+
Uninstalling ASU and reinstalling from the MSI gives the same result, with the added bonus that now I can't get ASU back again because the only version I have won't install any more. While I disliked ASU's tendency to keep pushing "updates" on me that were really new applications (e.g. iTunes), I would still prefer to keep it so that my QuickTime stays up-to-date...
Anyone else who has seen the same thing?
    ciao marcus

I had the exact same thing happen - WinXP at work updated just fine, but Win2k at home update failed, and I uninstalled the old ASU and tried the install by hand and that failed - I even got the same HRESULT error. And I can't find a page for ASU on the Apple website, so I don't know if the minimum system requirements have been nudged up or what... Hopefully someone will reply to this topic who knows what's going on!
