Installing 8.1.x on a 2.4.x kernel (some info)
A while back I installed oracle 8i r2 on a 2 2.18 kernel, all went well. Recently I decided to remove it and start again, but this time with 8.1.7 on the 2.4.1 kernel.
The installation stops to work when it goes to create the database, just after you've specified the sizes of your tablespace. I tried to install 8.1.6 r2 and the same thing happened. I tried the patch that someone for both installs that someone suggested on this discussion forum, the "READ THIS" post. In fact, I went and wrote the patch in a shell script which can be found here for Redhat installs -

and it didn't work. I applied it when the installation tells you to run the root.sh script, just after everything was linked (the patch relinks everything again)
It came down to maybe some library/shared object in the 2.4.x kernel that was causing this, I rebooted under my 2.2.18 kernel and it installed like a dream, just like I had done the first time.
I haven't tried this on 8.1.7, but I would suspect that just changing the sym link
to point to the 2.2.18 sources like this
ln -fs /usr/src/linux-2.2.18 /usr/src/linux
would fix it.
Hope this is of some help. Lemme know if I missed something with the patch especially coz it took alot of attempts to try and get it working before I gave up.

Normally, I would try to some searching before posting, but I've been pressed for time lately. Anyways, I'm looking for some info about Solaris before deciding to dive into installing it.
1) Can it be installed on what's a currently triple-booting system without problems? In this case, Solaris would be installed onto half of the slave HD.
2) How difficult and lengthy is the installation process?
3) Does Solaris come with it's own unique bootloader? Can it recognize other operating systems? Is it possible to not install that bootloader and simply edit the configs for a preexisting GRUB to allow it to boot Solaris?The only way to get content into the Music app is via iTunes store downloads or syncing with itunes on a computer. You will need to find a third party media player such as VLC (whick integrates with DropBox and GoogleDrive, if that appeals to you).

Installing the mavericks has been stopped--.it is saying that some error has been occurred
installing the mavericks has been stopped…….it is saying that some error has been occurred and asking to check in purchase section.But again after resuming download it is showing the same problem....my update has been installed upto 1.5 GB and stopped..

My report on installing Windows 7 RC x64 on my lenovo X200 (Still some help needed!)
I upgraded from Vista and for a brief moment everything seemed to work but then problems started and I did a clean install. BUT there are quite some issues:
- Unknown PCI Simple Communications Controller in Device Manager (Which drivers are needed?)
- Intel GMA driver reports to be installed but I don't have the Settings app to change power saving things and I don't have the GPU video acceleration as well as some problems with 3D Games (QuakeLive)
- Fans seem to spin more than under Vista. Not sure about that one. (Have to observe with new drivers from lenovo)
Fixed:
- Can't install Bluetooth driver (No Device found) - Installed the OSD Package following a guide posted somewhere on the board (manual registry key added, installed in vista mode) and could then enable BT using the Fn Keys and the Drivers were installed automatically by Wind7 after that
- Fn+F2 (Lock) does not work, Fn+F5 (WiFi&Bluetooth) does not work - Same fix as BT issue
- Brightness change does not show the green onscreen bar, does not work after sleep - Fixed through the Hotkeys Driver for Win7 (provided by lenovo on the Win7 Beta Drivers page)
- Power Manager - New Drivers for Win7 by lenovo
Doesn't work but it's crap anyways:
- Presentation Director won't install correctly
Doesn't work but not important:
- Audio Driver from lenovo only worked after "Install with recommended Settings" and the SmartAudio pane in the Control Panel does not work so I uninstalled and the Win drivers work perfectly
- Fn+Pause (doesn't do anything)
- Fn+PrtSc (doesn't do anything)
- Intel AMT wouldn't install (I'm not in an Enterprise Environment so I don't need it anyways)
What works:
- Active Protection
- Camera (at least it installed. Didn't try it out)
- All other Fn Keys, Volume Buttons, Onscreen Display of volume/ThinkLight change
- Intel Matrix and Turbo Memory drivers installed
- lenovo System Interface installed
- WLan (Out of the box and after I killed it with the deinstallation of Access Connections, worked again with Intel drivers)
- Fingerprint (Win Update)
- Chipset (Win Update)
- LAN (Win Update)
- Display (Win Update)
- Power Management Driver (Win Update)
- Trackpint (Win Update)
- Audio (Out of the box)
- Modem Drivers installed
Untested/Not Installed:
- Easy Eject Utility (Not needed anymore with new Win7 Driver behavior)
- ThinkVantage Menu & Message Center
- Access Connections
It works quite well but the GMA and Brightness issues are really annoying! BUT I hate it, that the System Update App isn't available anymore and stopped working with Vista SP2 (RC). One app which manages all the Driver and support software installation is just perfect! I hope lenovo will release something like it again (Maybe as a sidetab in the official Win7 Update app )
Does someone know how I can fix the the red problems?

I did a clean installation (as opposed to an upgrade) of W7 RC on my W500, and discovered that all of the problem you mention are quite easily solved. Basically, they seem to be caused by the computer needing the correct device driver for the item - in other words, the device driver is not provided on the W7 CD, you need to get it from the Lenovo website.
In your case, because you did an upgrade install (rather than wiping your hard drive and doing a clean install), chances are that you already have the required drivers present on your computer. They will be located at the root level of your 'C:' drive in a folder entitled 'drivers' (in other words, C:/drivers/).
All you have to do is point your computer in the correct direction, to assist it to find the driver that is present on your hard drive.
Here is how I recommend you proceed:
1) Open the Device Manager. In W7, you can accomplish this from the control panel (Start - Control Panel - Device Manager).
2) Look for an item in the device manager that the computer is unhappy about. These are normally identified with exclamation points or similar icons beside them.
3) Right-click on one of these problem items, and choose 'Update Driver Software'.
4) Select the lower option (the non-default option), which is 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
5) In the window that appears, use the browse button to navigate to C:/Drivers, and confirm that the check box 'include subfolders' is checked.
6) Press the NEXT button. The computer will then go fishing through the C:/Drivers folder, find what it needs, and install it.
You will have to iterate this procedure for each item in the device driver list that shows a problem. It may also be necessary to reboot the computer after each iteration.
Hopefully, this will solve your problems. Please let us know what your experience is.

Installing Oracle 8.1.7 on RedHat 7.1 (kernel 2.4.5)
Hi:
When I untar the gunzipped file and try to run the "runInstaller" program, the jre process eats up 99.6% of the CPU and does not start the installer. I have a gut feeling that it has something to do with IBM's JDK. Is there a way to use a different jre for the installer other than the one that comes with Oracle 8.1.7 tarred file.

However, I encounter this error duing the linking process which occurs right after the install:

I have confirmed that the file is at that location. I have two questions regarding this matter:
1. What can I do to correct this error;
2. What problems can I expect to encounter by ignoring this error?

I am ready to sell my MDD Mac. I want it to have a fresh load of 10.5 and 9.2. How do you stop the installation before you enter your name, IP, email address etc? When I first received my Mac 10.2 was installed and waiting for me to enter my personnel data. I want it in the same condition when my buyer receives it.
Bobafter you finish an erase and install reboot as prompted. upon reboot Setup Assistant will start. quit it using Command+q on the very first screen and shut down.

Hello guys,
i have a macbook pro, that i formated with a windows 7 dvd, now i ONLY have a windows 7 on my macbook pro.(I wanted a clean install with os x before i puted windows 7, but i coudnt because each time i tried to boot from os x dvd i got a kernel panic, thats why i formated the entire hard driver and puted windows 7)
But now i realy want the mac os x, i really tried evrything, evry dvd, evry key combination nothing worked.the error i get is: yo need to restart your computer ....
I alo cant acces the hardware test....
nobody could help me on the forums...
Today i tried to boot from a linux bootcd,then i got the next error:
mp-bios bug:8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
kernel panic: not syncing: IO-APIC +timer doesnt work.
As you can see the problem is apic,when i press noapic the linux starts up, so i think if I could disable the apic before starting to boot from the os x dvd should help...
on windows computers yo can disable the apic in bios, does anybody have an idea how i can do it on a macbook pro?
or maybe other ideas that can repair the bug?You are working ages on a mac os and dont know how to fix a problem like this...
It's far from a common problem. I've never seen anyone post an IO-APIC issue before. Doing a search for your exact error message turns up all kinds of links for people trying to install Linux, Ubuntu, or some other non Windows OS on their PC. This thread is the only one I found related to a Mac.

You do realize that's illegal, right? The user license clearly states that the Mac OS is to be installed on Mac hardware only. Not to mention that even if you do somehow manage to get OS X installed on PC hardware, it's almost a 100% certainty it will run badly.

Just pressing? Try again, insert the OS X install disk and restart. When you hear the startup chime, immediately press and hold the C key until it is clear you've started up to the DVD. If this doesn't work, then that kind of brings this up:
oh one more thing: i was also getting the kernel panic before formatting the previous mac os x
Kernel panics are usually hardware related. What do you have plugged into the laptop? If anything, unplug them before attempting to boot to the OS X install disk. If there's nothing plugged into any of the USB, Ethernet or FireWire ports, the it's most likely bad RAM. You'll have to bring the Mac in for service to get that checked out under warranty. -
Install more than one exe into one folder or into some subfolders of the same folder

I want to do at least one of the following:
1. I want to install several exes (built with LV app builder) into one directory because they belong together.
2. Make several subfolders under the same top level folder aand install exes into each of them.
The (top level) folder should be the "company" folder. The subfolders are for the applications.
For example:
c:\company\app1\app1.exe
c:\company\app1\app1setup.exe
c:\company\app2\app2.exe
etc.
This may also reside under the "program files" folder.
If i try to do so, i encounter some problems setting up the build specifications. If i have more than one build spec. for exes i cannot add them to the same folder. At least if they contain the same external files, e.g. dlls.
If i try to make one installer per exe, i get an error message telling me that the same folder (my "top level folder") already exists in the registry and cannot be added a second time. This is also true if i try to make a new project instead of having several installer build specs in one project.
I use Labview 2009 (engl.) under Windows Vista (german).
If anyone has some help for me or encounters similar problems please let me know.

the build directories should be different for each build, but you can copy the executables into one folder manually (tested successfully in WinXP). For multiple installers, put each installer build in a separate directory, and install all to the same program files subfolder. Works with XP (tested!), so this must be a Vista issue...
Please build the four specs in attached project and run both installers to the same directory - should be working...

The first step in troubleshooting that may be to identify the tab or page involved, then try Firefox with only the newtab page and the problem page open.
IIRC Firefox is intended to continue streaming audio even if a tab does not have focus. That enables users to stream audio in the background whilst browsing. What you hear may be intended behaviour.
