Installing 8iLite on my PC

Can anyone please tell me the hardware requirements (memory, hard disk space, CPU) for installing oracle 8i Lite on my pc. The operating system I'm using is Windows95.
Thanks,
Gerry.

Minimum hardware requirement is same as that of Windows 95. That means if you are running windows 95, yes you can install and run Lite. It takes up about 130MB disk space. Recommended RAM is 8MB
Let me know if this solved your problem.

  • Installing 8iLite on Palm Pilot Vx

    I received a demo copy of 8i Lite in the Oracle magazine. On the CD-ROM cover, it was printed that one of the operating systems that 8i Lite will work with is Palm OS. What I like to know is what are the hardware requirements and steps to follow to install Oracle 8i lite on the Palm Vx?

    You might try doing a "clean uninstall" of Palm Desktop.  Check this thread.
    I would also question why/where/how you "upgraded" to Palm Desktop 3.5?  You can find Palm Deskop 4.1 here and reinstalling after you do a clean uninstall.

  • Where is OCA605290.zip in 8iLite download

    I downloaded & installed 8iLite & Forms6i in WIN95. 8i release notes said to "copy OCA605290.zip file from the \WIN32 folder of the Oracle8i Lite CD-ROM" but I can't find it in the un-zipped folder. I found a similar file in Forms6i folder and it worked for connecting via SQL*Plus but when I tried to connect via Form Builder, it broke the whole system. Anyone know where I can find the correct file? Do I need to use a different home for forms as mentioned for other 8i editions? There's only one computer involved, no network, no internet, Palms, etc. involved.
    Thanks, Bruce

    First things first. This question might be dumb but.. have you removed the old VGA drivers from Windows before taking out the old card and installing the new one? ?(
    ... Maybe that's my problem. I didn't know I should remove any drivers first. When I look in my Device Manager (with the new GeForce card installed and the new software installed), I see the MSI device listed under video, but it has a red "X" over the icon.
    So should I put the old (original) card back in and remove the drivers, or can I leave the GeForce in and remove the old drivers? (If I remoive them, how can I get them back if need be?)

Should I install the Mobile Server, where my Oracle server recides and Mobile development kit on the client machine, or they both have to go on the client machine. I tried to install the Mobile server on my client machine, but I was unable to find the Oracle Lite Navigator that used to be on 8i lite, i am missing some thing over here, or is it compulsary that I should have 9iAS even though I am not accessing it through the web, I want to do my replication accross the network. Any kind of help is greatly appreciated.

  • Learning ORACLE and overwhelmed by PL/SQL. Any advice? Mentor?

    Taking the Oracle Certification track with DBbasics in Raleigh. Changing career after 20 years as an entrepreneur owning a mail order business.
    Took the first class: Intro to Oracle. The first 3 days went OK (SQL, SQL*Plus), I just felt that I would need a lot of home work to pass the first exam as I do not have any professional programming experience. The 4th and 5th days, starting with chapter 16 (PL/SQL) everything started looking like Greek to me.
    The instructor suggested that I redo the class which I will this coming week.
    I have been studying for the past 2 weeks and again this PL/SQL looks like Greek to me and I am afraid to spend another week in class and get discouraged again.
    Any advice? How can I understand these PL/SQL courses better (Chapters 16 to 23)? The basic concepts seem so foreign to me. It's like sitting in front of a math exercise without having any clue.
    Can a student like me get "one on one" help, mentoring from Oracles DBA's?
    Do the courses get easier after this Intro to Oracle class???
    Your help would be appreciated!
    I am fascinated by eCommerce and hoping that the Oracle certification will get me a job in a dot.com firm and possibly be involved with not only the technical aspects of databases but also with product development, marketing etc. Is it a realistic goal?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    The suggestions given will all help, the most useful would be to learn some of the basic concepts behind programming (control structures, variables etc.,).
    Next check out this site: www.interbaun.com and check out the VERY inexpensive on-line CBT courses. Their Oracle series is really good, and easy to follow.
    Other than that, you should also install 8iLite at home and start playing around with PL/SQL through SQL*Navigator (what I have used and use) OR another GOOD SQL program.
    SQL*Navigator will allow you to create packages, procedures etc., and store them to the database and allow you to execute them.
    Good luck!

  • 8iLite Install Script Request

    I looking forn the names and dir location's
    of some SqlPlus scripts that will:
    1. build the demo database
    2. create generic UID like scott/tiger
    3. create Net8 TCP/IP entires for a client &
    server to exist on the same machine.
    The Doc's is very limited...
    Please Help...
    Monty6

    You should install the script at a predefined location, for example $HOME/bin, or whatever you prefer.
    For the 'load into crontab' you should refer to the crontab command at the unix reference, just type man crontab and you will get further details on the crontab command.

    I would like to know if it is possible to install and run Oracle 8iLite and Oracke Developer 6.0. In other words I would like to connect to a local database using Oracle Developer 6.0.

    Hi Gerry,
    I've installed Oracle 8i and now i'm developping forms using developper 6. Your connect string should be something like this:
    user = scott
    password = tiger
    database = odbc:polite

    Did you install the VM Manager software as a VM hosted by OVS? Make sure the VM is running. It is probably named something like OVM_EL5U4_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM. Use "xm list" on the OVS server to see which VMs are running.
    If it's not running, then run "xm create /path/to/vm.cfg" the path is probably something like /OVS/running_pool/OVM_EL5U4_X86_OVM_MANAGER_PVM/vm.cfg

  • Oracle 8i Enterprise install

    I recently purchased the OTN Internet Server track (NT). I am installing Oracle 8i Enterprise on NT 4.0 Server (standalone/workgroup). The problem is the Universal Installer is stuck around the 37% in progress bar. I left it overnight. It is not locked. I can move mouse around and I see the animated image (moving meteor around a globe) on top left corner. Thus it seems to be alive but it is not moving farther along. I have 10 GB free space and virtual memory setting is 2 GB (2048 MB). I have 98 MB RAM. I did not find any forum that was suitable for this problem reporting. 8iLite seems to be the closest match, hence posting in this forum.
    Thanks,
    Ganesh ([email protected])

    I assume, you tried the full-installation of Oracle 8i EE. As long as you have (I'm sorry to say this) only 98MB of memory, you have to choose the 'minimal installation'. After you finished this, you can countiniue installing other parts of Ora EE.
    I hope this will help you.
    Best regards.

  • 8iLite on Win98?

    Is it possible to run 8iLite on Win98?
    I've installed it apparently successfully, but when I try to run SQL*Plus I got a message saying that Plus80w.exe could possibly not execute properly because of the OS, and then, after giving the username, I always get the error message: "ORA-12203: TNS: Unable to connect to destination".
    Please, help!

    Hi Hernan,
    It is possible to run 8i lite on win98.
    Just ignore the error which you are getting while running the SQL*Plus(That is a general error). I have few questions . Did you create a database or are you trying to access the default database.
    If you have created a database goto odbc ans create a dsn for your database first.
    In SQL*plus enter the following values
    user name - user created by you or enter system
    Password - if user created by you then enter
    password given by you , if system give some dummy password
    host - odbc:dsn:dbname
    dsn - datasoucr name given by you in odbc
    dbname - your database name.
    Hope this helps.If any problem write back to me

  • Oracle 8iLite, Windows 98 and ProC/C++

    + Does Oracle 8iLite support a ProC/C++ precompiler on Windows 98?
    + If so: Is the CONNECT command (EXEC SQL connect :user at :db using :connect) supported or not?.

    Pro*C is a tool that you get with Oracle install to convert your C programs with SQL statements into a C program so you can compile and link using your C compile available on that system.
    What exactly is the problem you are facing?

  • I install window 8 and Unfortunatly all drive format. And all drive mix, now i have only 1 DRIVE C. I want Bit locker Drive's data Back

    Last sunday i install a window 8 and this window format my all drive & make it 1 drive (DRIVE C). Before all of this i have 5 drive in different size with 1 Bitlocker protect drive.
    So i try data recovery software to recover my data. i got back all my data without that ( bitlocker ) protected drive.
    so please guys help me how can i get back data from bitlocker protected drives.
    please please help me.

    Hi,
    I sorry for your experience, but there is no way to recovery the data encryped by BitLocker untill now.
    BitLocker is designed to make the encrypted drive unrecoverable without the required authentication. When in recovery mode, the user needs the recovery password or recovery key to unlock the encrypted drive. Therefore, we highly recommend
    that you store the recovery information in AD DS or in another safe location.
