Installing 9 brings up DOS SETUP command window !! Cannot continue

I tried to install Reader 9. Just after the install starts, the command window appears with a title C:\DOS\SETUP and says "To install MS-DOS, Insert Disk 1 in drive A and press CNTRL+ALT+DEL. This will restart your computer and begin the Setup program. Or press ENTER to return to your command prompt."
If I press Enter, the Adobe install simply stops and I am returned to the Windows desktop !!??
My computer is a multiboot setup with XP Vista DOS and Ubuntu, all on seperate partitions. The default system is XP.

This is boot.ini on my C drive.
(The system actually boots via the Ubuntu partition, the picks up the Vista booting file)
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.

  • B Installing 9 brings up DOS SETUP command window then fails

Installing 9 starts and then a DOS SETUP command box appears, asking to insert Disk 1 DOS Install floppy in drive a: It then fails to do the 9 install, no matter what I do. It simply fails ! I tried installing in SAFE MODE, but still does the same thing. Cannot get any help on this from several XP forums, or from Microsoft. Any ideas ?

Errol, you've asked this question several times without getting a
response - presumably because nobody can fathom your setup.
If the PATH command in your boot sequence points to a directory
containing a 'setup.exe', it looks like the installer picks that one
instead of the right one. Try temporarily renaming the wrong
setup.exe or modifying PATH to force the installer to look in the
    right place.

  • Reloading windows XP 6710b error window cannot continue

windows will not load on new hdd that test good no other hardware problems (windows error message .Windows cannot
continue connot find hard drive ect. ) bios setting may be wrong and preventing window from finding hdd ?
window XP home on a 6710b notebook.  all hard test good.

You have mentioned it's 6710b Notebook and I am assuming that the exact model is HP Compaq6710b Notebook PC. It could be an issue with the BIOS settings.
    Try the below mentioned steps:
1.) Put the Windows XP installation Disc in the NB's DVD drive and turn off the NB.
2.) Boot the NB to BIOS by tapping the F10 key continuously as soon as you press the power button to power on the NB.
3.) Once in BIOS, first go to Diagnostic tab and use the arrows keys of your keyboard to navigate. And check if the HDD is getting detected or not. Try running Primary Hard disk quick test and long test to make sure HDD is Good (If HDD is brand new then ignore the HDD test).
4.) Set the BIOS setting to it's default by tapping the F9 key once, save the Changes and exit.
5.) NB will restart by itself. This time tap the F9 key to change the Boot Sequence Order or tap ESC key to get the menu to change the boot order.
6.) CD/DVD rom drive should be the first boot device and then the HDD and then USB etc. Save the changes.
7.) when NB restarts, it will ask you to "press any key to boot from CD/DVD". Follow the Onscreen instructions and check if the recovery/Windows installation completes.
P.S : Make sure only Ac-adapter is connected to the NB and nothing else, no other USB accessories etc.
Any further issues, post it with the complete error.

  • Lion Finder "Find" command window, cannot resize columns

If I use the Finder's "Find.." command under the File menu, a window appears that allows me to enter my serach criteria.
However when I do so and a list of entries is presented, there appears to be no way to resize the columns!
Als, unlike a normal Finder window, it does not present you with column headings that you can sort on (yes, you can still access this level of control by going to "Show View Options".
Try it. I know that a normal Finder window allows you to do this, but not a "Find" window.
I have no idea why they use a different design style for the "Find" results window. The standard Finder list view window at least has the proper controls on it (ability to resize, ability to slect which column to sort upon, ability to slect sort order up or down, etc.)
Any ideas as to how to fix these problems?

    David.
You'll need to select View>Arrange By>None to get the ability to adjust columne width.
You can also get at it by clicking the little gear icon in the tool bar.

  • X11: You cannot continue. there is nothing to install.

    Hi,
My X11 world has started misbehaving - whenever I try to xdisplay something back to my Mac I now get an error message saying 'unable to open display'. This all happened after the X11 session I was having with a remote linux box froze and I had to force quit X11. I thought I'd try to re-install X11 (via X11User.pkg) but I get to the part in the installer where I click on 'Install' and it then responds with:
You cannot continue. there is nothing to install.
I've tried removing the /usr/X11R6 directory and the X11 app itself but the installer message persists. Any ideas on how to proceed?
    Thanks.

Sometimes the reason why these things don't work is that there is a "receipt" in /Library/Receipts that you need to manually delete.

    ls -1d /Library/Receipts/X11

I appreciate you guys taking the time to respond, I just wonder if you read the details of my question?  I have specifically stated that the above hotfix
is installed along with the other prerequisite that the Install Guide mentions.  Furthermore I have not only checked the log but posted it for review.
I'm thinking the above advice is almost automated, it is the same as I found in numerous searches.  The problem I have here is I DID read the manual, have done what it says and still get this error.
This morning I reinstalled the hotfixes  and tried the install again.  Here is the log from today:
Please note the bolded line, it seems there is some registry value being checked but I don't know what so I can fix it.

  • Install Failure: Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 partition 1.

I have problem with installation Win7 x64. Installation stops on disk selection with mesage: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information". I tried ICH9 controler in mode AHCI and RAID. Loading intel drivers (Ver:8.7.0.1007 and 7.5.0.1017) gives me masage "Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 partition 1." Details: "Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001". I can see drives, make new partition and format it.
    Spec:
    CPU: Intel Q6600
    RAM: 4GB
MB: MSI Neo2 FIR (intel P35 and ICH9R)
    HDD: 2x 640GB SATA (empty)

I had the same problem. On a new build, ASUS P8Z68-V/Gen4, I a pulled a WD 1TB Sata HDD from another computer I had and put it into my new computer.  The drive was previously used just as a data drive, not a boot disk. Win 7 didn't want load on it.
    I followed the instructions posted by BenFreefly (although abbreviated slightly) and it worked. For reference, here are the steps;
    1) After Windows gives you the error, hit SHIFT-F10 to get to the command prompt.
    2) From command prompt enter the following commands:
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk 0    (your disk may be a different number)
    clean
    create partition primary
    exit    (exits diskpart)
    exit    (exits command prompt)
    3) Click on Refresh
    4) Windows now sees the disk as a primary disk
    5) Select the disk and click Next.
From there, Windows will extract files and the install will boot several times.

  • Problem extracting Acrobat XI setup.exe file - using WinRAR extractor - "Windows cannot find file...

I have downloaded Adobe Acrobat XI from my university download site (so I know it's a legit, safe copy).  When I run the .exe file, even as an administrator, it begins to extract using WinRAR self-extracting archive and stops with a pop-up error:
"Windows cannot find "C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX0\Adobe Acrobat XI\setup.exe"
I scanned using Malwarebytes, AVG, Spybot, and ran a \scannow command.  Nothing finds a corrupt file.  Any ideas what could be causing the extractor to not work?
I am running Windows 7 on a 64-bit Dell laptop.

SOLUITION - I had to actually download a version of WinRAR extractor.  Right click the downloaded AcrobatXI-Windows.exe file and choose "Open with WinRAR" (this option was not available until I downloaded the WinRAR application - apparently the extractor runs automatically but doesn't have full funtionality).  Then I nagivated to the Adobe Acrobat folder in the WinRAR window and selected the setup.exe file to run.  It opened and installed beautifully.

I fixed it by installing Microsoft Identity extensions from command line, please find command line below.
    C:\Windows\System32>msiexec.exe /i "C:\SharePoint2013ServerFiles\prerequisiteinstallerfiles\MicrosoftIdentityExtensions-64.msi" /quiet /norestart
Note: In the above command C:\SharePoint2013ServerFiles\prerequisiteinsTallerfiles is the path where I had downloaded all the prerequisites for SP2013
This will install Microsoft Identity Extensions and creates registry entries, which will help the SharePoint 2013 Prerequisite installer to complete the setup

  • Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks

    Hi All,
I have been trying real hard to install Windows 8 on my Macbook Pro early 2011 model. I followed the instruction given by Bootcamp word to word, all things went very smoothly untill I was asked Windows Setup Instaled to selct the Hard drive. Here's the error:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk 0. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI system, Windows can only be installed on GPT disks...."
Let me know guys what should I do?
    Thanks,
    Attiqe

You have started the Windows 8 installer in EFI mode, and you don't have to start in EFI mode on a Mac because your Mac emulates a BIOS and a MBR partition table in order to install Windows in non-EFI mode.
To start the Windows installer, hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and have a look at all the boot options you have. You should see two with a DVD above and they must be named "Windows" and "EFI Boot". Choose the option with "Windows" and follow the steps to install Windows. Note that you have to format the "BOOTCAMP" partition from the installer to be able to install Windows.
If you are trying to install Windows from a USB drive, note that your computer isn't compatible to do it

  • No more optical drive and windows 8 issue: "Windows cannot be installed on this disk as it has an MBR partition table."

I have an Early 2011 13" MBP going strong with an SSD and original HDD installed in the optical drive. However, having had success with windows 7 on my old HDD I was planning to install Windows 8.1 (from .iso) on my SSD. However, for the past day or so it's been a nightmare.
I tried the official procedure but by editing the bootcamp info.plist so I could boot from USB (you can't install windows from an external optical drive apparently) partitioning as bootcamp wanted too.
I then tried it a number of different ways using disk utility etc and with an empty space
However, I always seem to end up with the error "“Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only installed on GPT disks“
I read some interesting stuff here http://www.royhochstenbach.com/installing-windows-8-1-on-a-2013-mac-pro/
    He points out that
"Windows 7 and 8 in x64 support EFI. Normally if you install Windows on a Mac and use the installation DVD, it boots into regular BIOS mode, thus can be installed on an MBR partition. I tried the same, but since the Mac Pro doesn’t have an optical drive I had to use an external drive. And apparently the Mac boots external optical drives in EFI mode too. The Bootcamp wizard is aware of this, and creates a GPT partition on a non-superdrive Mac but an MBR partition on a superdrive Mac."
This means Bootcamp is essentially making the wrong type of partition?
My real question is? How do I install it windows 8? I'm really on my last legs!
I really don't want to have to open this thing up and reinsert my optical drive as its really really difficult to get out of the enclosure (would probably have to break it).
    A huge thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Have you tried that suggestion?
You also could use this commands to check and install again:
Inside windows installer, hit Shift+F10 to get a command prompt, then run diskpart and type List disk to displays a list of disks and information about them, such as their size, amount of available free space, whether the disk is a basic or dynamic disk,
and whether the disk uses the master boot record (MBR) or GUID partition table (GPT) partition style.
and then select the target disk. Zap the drive (with the clean command), create GPT table (new gpt), create the GPT-EFI special partitions.
Step-by-step instructions is here for reference:
HOW TO: Use the Diskpart.efi Utility to Create a GUID Partition Table Partition on a Raw Disk in Windows
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297800?wa=wsignin1.0
Then reboot so the firmware finds those partitions and adds the disk to the EFI-native boot order (Windows installer checks this).
