Installing a HP1102w wirelessly on a MAcbook & Ipad - How to...

Hi,
I purchased the HP P1102w yesterday and it's certainly not out the box Airprint. But the following takes about 10 minutes using a mac.
I eventually sorted all of this out using the following:
Firstly you will need to go to the HP Support site and download the HP Driver Software for OS 10.7 Here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=bi-80684-5 &cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=4110396&sw_lang=
Once this has been installed to the HP 1102w using the USB, you then disconnect the printer from the USB and using your MAC connect to it using Network Connections (Click on the Wireless Icon in the task bar). The printer should be listed here under 'devices', (Note this will disconnect you from the internet!!!).
Once you are connected directly and wirelessly to the printer the blue light should stop flashing and remain constantly blue!!!
At this point go and make a cup of tea or leave the printer for about 3 -5 minutes before the next step to allow the printer to initiaite and provide and IP Address.
Next stage is to print a 'Self Test / Device Configuration' sheet from the printer. Do this by holding the red X button until the green light flashes on the printer (About 10 secs), when you release the printer should print a page with two columns on. The right hand column should state an IP Address. (if the printer is 'not connected' or 'initiating' try again in a few minutes. If the IP Address is 0.0.0.0 then the printer is not connected and recheck the blue light is not flashing (it should be permanently lit).
Now you have the IP Address, open safari and type in the IP Address eg.... 192.254.1.87 with no http or www. just the plain IP Address.
This should then open the control pages for the HP Printer Set up. These are green and white web pages.
Go to the Networking Tab (Nearly there, promise)....  Click on 'Wireless' on the left hand menu and then in the new page that opens do the following:
Change from 'AdHoc' to 'Infrastructure'
In the next section 'Network Name (SSID)' - the name will be the HP name.... in the available network box select your home network and then press the little box that looks like this --  [<<]..... this should then change the 'current network name (SSID) to your home network (If your network is not listed just use the refresh button).
Last stage is to change the 'Authentification'
Change this to WPA/WPA2 (or other if your router is set otherwise) and in the 'passphrase' box enter the security password for your router and then finally save the changes....
After this all you then need to do is go to settings on your Mac - Printer and Faxes and remove the HP 1102w from the list using the - sign. Then click the + button to add a new printer and hey presto you will find the HP1102w with Bonjour.... simply add and then you can print from your Mac, Ipad and Iphone with no further tinkering....
I really hope this helps and you don't get as stressed as I did....
Happy printing...
Steve
ps. Why couldn't HP just tell you this!!!!!!

Thank you, thank you.  Fought with this printer for too many hours and then found your instructions.  It is running like a top and I can also print from my iPhone.  Bless you.

  • Wireless keyboard operation on ipad - how to handle touch functions like email garbage can?

Received gift of wireless keyboard for my ipad. Managed bluetooth pairing and am stumped on functions other than simple typing. Can any keys be used for functions like the garbage can in email?

As far as I know it just replaces the onscreen keyboard, the iPad is a touch device and you will need to touch the screen for some things. The function keys for display brightness control, iPod and volume control also work.

  • WPS time out when installing B209a for wireless connection to Macbook Pro

I'm not good with computers and I'm new to the MAC computer system but I believe I was following the instructions correctly until I received the error message "WPS time out".
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Just in case you will need this info:
My wireless network is Verizon Fios. The router model is MI424WR.

  • Losing wireless passwords when macbook sleeps--how to prevent?

I typically use wireless Internet connectivity. When I put my Macbook (running X 10.5.7) in "sleep" mode or when I close the machine without shutting down, it "forgets" the password to the wireless router. When I open the machine it requires I reenter the password. When I shutdown and reboot, the wireless connectivity is fine--ie, it remembers the router password. This has happened on 3 different routers.
How do I prevent this from happening? It is obviously a nuisance.

Have you tried Keychain First Aid? Run the Keychain app and from the menu select Keychain First Aid from the Keychain Access menu option. If that does not work delete the Airport entry for the router and re-create it. Cant think of any other way to solve it.

  • How to install the airport card to my macbook?, How to install the airport card to my macbook?

One time when i was browsing using my macbook, it suddenly hanged. I waited for several minutes for it to return to its normal function to no avail. What i did was removed the battery then switched it on again. It worked again. But could not access the wifi anymore. When i clicked the wifi icon, it says, no airport card  installed.  What should i do?

I'm guessing there is a language issue here.  The graphics card is the actual hardware (chip) in your computer that allows it to create graphics and show them on your display.  There is no way to disable the graphics card on your Air because there would be no way to use it (it would not be able to display anything on any display).  This is a little different on machines with multiple graphics processors, but that's not the case with your Air.  I'd imagine you know what you want to do, we're just having trouble understanding your question.

  • I have a HP Laserjet P1102w printer hooked up to the USB port of my Airport Extreme. I'm able to print to the printer wirelessly from my MacBook Pro. My iPad (2nd gen) can't find the printer. What do I need to do?

My iPad is on the same network as the Airport Extreme. The HP printer is on the list of Airprint printers but I'm not using it as a wireless printer, per se, as it's hooked up to the USB port on the Airport Extreme.
I installed the HP ePrint app on my iPad. Unfortunately, the app could not find the printer either.
As mentioned earlier, I'm able to print wirelessly to the HP printer via my MacBook Pro.

Since I'm able to print to the HP printer from my MacBook Pro using this configuration, shouldn't I be able to print to the printer from my iPad, especially when all of the devices are on/using the same network?
Not necessarily. AirPrint uses a protocol separate from the communication protocol used for the Extreme's USB port. The HP printer may disable AirPrint when its USB port connected to a valid device, which is my reason for recommending you use it wirelessly.
    From AirPrint Basics:
AirPrint printers connected using Bluetooth or shared through a USB port of a Mac, PC, AirPort Base Station, or Time Capsule are not supported.
AirPrint printers connected by Ethernet are supported in OS X.
You may get more competent assistance from HP. See this HP support forum topic: iPhone & iPad can't Airprint to p1102w LaserJet
HP's Mac support has always been miserable though. I have been much happier since I abandoned HP and started buying Brother printers. They just work.

  • HT1365 just installed a new wireless router (cisco linkseys E1200) and our apple laptops connect fine on one floor but lose connectivity when moved to another.  Other non apple laptops & Ipad connect with no problem no matter what floor they are on

We just installed a new wireless router to our main PC.  It's a Cisco Linkseys E1200.  All other wireless devices were able to connect without a problem, including my Ipad.  We have 2 Macbook Pro laptops.  They both connect just fine when on the same floor of our house as the router, but when we take them upstairs to the 2nd floor of the house, they lose connectivity and it states the wireless password is not the correct password.  All other 2nd floor laptops have no problem at all with connectivity no matter where they are in the house.  Please help- my husband is on the verge of selling Apple if that cannot be remedied.

This would not be a security issue symptom. I would consider checking for sources of wireless interference HT1365

My Apple ID changed back to an old ID when I installed last update on my iPhone 5s.  How can I change it back to match what is on my MacBook Pro and iPad?

    Hi GlendaGirl,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're unexpectedly seeing the incorrect Apple ID on your iPhone 5s. You can use these steps to sign out of iCloud on your iPhone 5s and sign in with the right Apple ID:
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account [Sign Out in iOS 8.] Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

Hello, I have mistakenly deleted all partitions on my mac while trying to install windows on my macbook pro, how do i reinstall the mac os back. I just wanted to have them both, please help. thank you in advance

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

  • I keep losing my wireless connection after periods of inactivity - any solution? I recently installed a new wireless router with improved range.

I recently installed a Netgear Wireless router for improved reception, but now my macbook loses connection through Airport after periods of inactivity.  We have another older Macbook in the house, and it never loses connection.  I never had this problem with the previous Linksys router, just limited range.  Any ideas what is causing this?  It's frustrating to have to frequently shout down and re-boot.  That so far is the only way I can re-connect.

Adjust the Wireless Settings on your linksys router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab on the Setup page- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed- Provide any non linksys network name ....
Name (SSID) box- Set wireless channel to 11- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on "Save Settings" >>
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your
network key whenever you connect to your wireless network.
Do NOT give this key to anyone.
    Click on Advanced Wireless settings>>
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ...
Try to look for the Wireless Network on your laptop and attempt to connect...

  • Pairing wireless iMac keyboard to iPad 4

Am trying to pair my iMac wireless keyboard to my iPad 4, but don't know how to obtain pin or pass code. Thanks much!

First, you need to unpair it from your iMac:
Press and release the On/Off switch on the wireless keyboard to turn it off.
On the currently-paired Mac, choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Bluetoothfrom the View menu.
Select the Apple Wireless Keyboard on the left side of the Bluetooth preferences pane.
Click Delete in the lower-left corner.
Then you need to make the keyboard discoverable:
Press and release the On/Off switch to turn on your wireless keyboard.
The green LED should begin blinking if the keyboard is not already paired and connected to another computer. The blinking LED indicates that the keyboard is in the discoverable mode. If you don't pair your keyboard with your Mac within three minutes, the indicator light and keyboard will turn off to preserve battery life. If this happens, press the On/Off switch to turn your keyboard on again. Note: If the LED doesn't turn on, make sure you have good batteries in the keyboard and that they are properly installed.
And then follow these steps on your iPad:
From the Home screen, choose Settings > Bluetooth2 and turn Bluetooth on. iPad searches for nearby Bluetooth accessories.
Choose the Bluetooth accessory, and then enter a passkey or PIN if prompted.
Bluetooth headset: Refer to the documentation for the headset to determine the passkey.
Bluetooth keyboard: Type the passcode displayed on the iPad on the keyboard and then return.
When pairing is complete, you can use the Bluetooth accessory with your iPad.
