Installing a Kona Card without maiming the G5

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I'm having a little trouble figuring out the best PCI configuration when installing a Kona LH card.
The computer in question is a Dual 2 ghz PowerPC G5. As of now, there is a firewire 800 card plugged into the 133mhz PCI slot and a RAID Controller plugged into one of the two 100mhz slots. When I got the computer from Apple, the Firewire card was plugged into the 133mhz slot. Upon purchasing the RAID, I plugged the Controller card into a 100mhz slot.
It seems like overkill to put a Firewire 800 card in the 133mhz slot and underkill to put the RAID controller in a 100mhz slot. Long story short; Will putting the RAID controller card (SCSI) in the 133mhz slot and the Firewire 800 card into one of the 100mhz slots seriously mess up the current configuration? What's the best way to have a Kona LH card and a SCSI RAID controller co-exist peacefully?
Thanks in Advance,
Doug
Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   (2) Partitioned 1.3 TB Mirrored RAID

Thanks for the input. I talked to somebody at Apple and found out that the RAID Controller is a 100 mhz card, which is why it is in the 100 mhz PCI slot. Apple also said that if the KONA card is slower than 100 mhz, placing the card in the G5 will slow the whole PCI system down, regardless of which bus the card is on.
Does this make any sense?
Thanks,
Doug

  • HELP! I need to be able to remove power from a PXI chassis and replace a card without rebooting the whole system

I do not have particulars on the controller, but I am sure it's an NI chassis
and NI regular controller that has a serial cable leading back to the PC.
I am making this PXI rack into a debug rack for instrument cards,
so I need to be able to remove power from just the PXI chassis
and then replace the card with another one
or the same one and then turn the power back on and restart a
diagnostic test on the card WITHOUT
    having to reboot the PC.
Is there a PCIe bridge setup that would allow me to do this?
Is there software that I need that can accomplish this?

    Yes
The Chassi is a NI PXI 1045
and the controller is a NI-PXI-8331
    Let me re-enumerate my requirements:
    Background:
I have a number of NI cards as well as other manufactured cards in the system.
One of these cards in the NI system is considered to be a UUT.
That is, I am using the NI card cage system and other cards in the system to test a CARD
during a manufacturing test of said UUT CARD.
The UUT uses a PLX 9030 for it's PCI interfacing.
This UUT is not designed for hot swap, and I do not bieleve it is plug and play.
    Requirement:
    1. I need to be able to shut off the chassis and remove the UUT when the test finishes, replace the tested UUT
with a unknown UUT, re-apply power and then test the new UUT WITHOUT having to reboot the PC.
I have tried several things, such as disabling the PCIe busses in the windows control panel, and then removing power
replacing the UUT with the next one, re-applying chassis power and then re-enabling the bus and SOMETIMES it works.
I need a very robust way to do this.
I also bought a CHROMA PXI-52906-E extender card with bus switches on it, so that I can remove power to the UUT
without shutting off the chassis. The card is supposedley designed so that when power is re-applied to the UUT, the necessary
signals to boot the PXI PCI interface is conducted, but I think something else has to be written to the card's PCI registers.
I am by no means an expert in PCI/PXI,
but I seem to have exhausted all of my reserach online in how to meet my requirements.
Perhaps there is a way for the NI8331 controller to capture PCI configuration data to the card's on system boot,
and then "replay it" to my UUT after I re-apply power to the UUT?
Or perhaps PLX makes such a tool?
    Any ideas?

  • HT202359 Is there a way to find the value of an unused itunes card without scratching the PIN security strip?

    Hi,
sorry, i got no idea how to get the datatype of a variant, but there are properties "ActualSize" and "Type" of the ADO Field-Object. In case of an empty field the ActualSize is zero. Maybe you can use that. See VI below.

  • Can I re-install FCE 3.5 without removing the FCE 3.5 already installed?

I'm still having problems not being able to open my project on my 2.5 quad which created it. But it opens fine on one of my other computers. I've decided to reinstall FCE 3.5. Can I reinstall it without removing the 3.5 already installed? If not, what are all the items I need to remove first?

Thanks so much for your help. I have two hard drives, one with my tiger system on it which I use 99% of the time. The other drive have partitioned in two, one for data and the other (just a small partition) has my Leopard system on it. Just to make sure my leopard system wasn't somehow interfering and causing me trouble I changed all its permissions to no access. It didn't make any difference in how FCE performed, so I went back to change everything back to read and write access, but as soon as I close the info window and reopen it the permissions are all back to no access. I even restarted and it's volume didn't even mount. Is ther some way to set the permissions back. Could the problem be that I locked the volume which has leopard on it while I was booted in Tiger? Of course now I can't boot up in Leopard even if I wanted to. Very confused.

  • How do i create a greeting card without using the template?  I want a different size.

I want to use a different size than the templates.   The size is A2 which is half of a 8/12 by 11 paper then folded in half.  (that way you can print twocards  per page).  I want to be able to \ resize my image to fit this size, add text to the front half with the image and a little text on the back.

In Editor, go to File>new>blank file. Enter the dimensions of your paper stock (8 1/2x11"). Resolution 300px/in.
Copy/paste the image to each half of the card.
Use the move tool to position, and, to resize with the corner handles of the bounding box.
Place the text with the type tool.
Suggest that you open the grid to help with orientation (View>tick grid). It will not print.

  • How can I install a second version without affecting the first?

How can I install a second version of FF without affecting my original installation?

You can install multiple Firefox versions via a custom install in different installation folders and only use the older Firefox version when you really need it.<br />
Do a custom install and install each version in its own program folder to use multiple Firefox versions.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Windows
    * http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/
Make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished.<br />
Create a new profile exclusively for each Firefox version.<br />
Create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch each Firefox version with its own profile.

  • Process a credit card without having the address in the system

In R11i we were able to do a transaction on a credit card by passing in the address via the p_pmtinstr_rec parameter without that address being in the system. Now in R12 Payment that record type has changed so it no longer has address as part of that record type. So we were wondering what the solution would be to process a credit card in R12 without having complete TCA data setup for the customers.
    Thanks,

  • How can I install drivers for bootcamp without using the mac install dvd?

I installed windows 7 in bootcamp on my mac. I put the drivers on a FAT format usb stick so they should be installed while the windows installation was running. The most things are working on windows like the i-sight-camera. The problem is that the microphone doesn´t work so I look for a solution for 3 days, no result. Normally, you use the mac install dvd to install the necessary drivers but windows doesn´t want to read the dvd. And yes, you can download the drivers on the apple platform, but that doesn´t help me at all.
Thanks in advance. (sorry for the language)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You didn't install Boot Camp drivers. It looks like you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
Those drivers are only for the graphic card and Bluetooth, not anything else, so you have to download the Boot Camp drivers on OS X and install them in Windows

  • How can I copy albums from itunes to an SD card without splitting the tracks?

I've tried putting albums onto an SD card from itunes on my Macbook Pro by dragging & dropping, but all the tracks have been split up. When I access the SD card the tracks are mixed up and not grouped together in albums.
I've also tried to find my itunes files but unable to locate them using finder.
    Any help would be welcome.

When you have albums in iTunes the songs are organized because iTunes is a database.  When you copy the albums/tracks to an SD card (or any other location) they are just files, there is no database keeping them in order.  So the order you see on the SD card is whatever sorting order you have the Finder set for (or other program if you are using it).
The easiest way to ensure track files are in the desired order on a disk is to preface the track name with a sequence number ... so, for example, you rename Black Magic Woman as 01-Black Magic Woman, etc.
The location of your iTunes Library is normally users/yourusername/Music/iTunes ... and your actual media files (albums & songs) are in a subfolder named iTunes Music

  • Macbook Pro w/ Boot Camp - Best way to reformat the 32bit Windows 7 and install 64 bit version without affecting the Mac side?

Hi guys! I have a new Macbook Pro purchased from Best Buy yesterday. I had the Geek Squad upgrade the RAM to 8 gigs (They only had PNY brand, I was concerned but went with it anyway). I had them install Boot Camp Windows 7 Ultimate. Today I picked it up and when I started playing with it I learned that they installed the 32 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate instead of the 64 bit version, why, I have NO IDEA.
So, I want to replace the Win 7 installation with the 64 bit version but have read that this can be tricky. What is the proper way to do this? I'm not sure I trust the Geek Squad to do this for me.
I assume I need to reformat the Windows partition, defragment and then install the 64 bit version of Win 7 Ultimate, but am not completely sure. I want to be sure that I do NOT do anything that could affect the Mac side
    What do you guys think?

I think you should take it back to the Geeks and tell them what you want, I also think you should backup before you do.
You do not need to reformat or repartition, you need to reinstall Windows from a 64bit copy, 32 & 64 have identical requirements as far as partition and format go, defragmenting has nothing at all to do with your needs.

  • HT1444 How to install a new OS without using the Mac App Store

I am running OS 10.5.8 on a refurbished Macbook Pro. I am not running an OS early enough to be able to use the Mac App Store. Everytime I go under Software Update it says everything is up to date. I would like to put the latest OS on this computer, but must install 10.6 first (apparently)?? My only question is how?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To have the App Store, you need Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and you can't get it from Software Update because it's a paid upgrade. Buy it from the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner, insert the DVD and follow the steps to upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update to install 10.6.8, so you will get the App Store.
To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion, just open the App Store and purchase it. Check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com When it finishes downloading, just follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion. You can check the OS X Mountain Lion requirements > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs

I want to resume my CAN application from a bus off without setting up all my tasks again.
Is there any solution known for this issue?

    Hi,
if you use frame API, try ncAction -> Reset. You could also try to stop and start the task again.
Let me know if that helps.

  • Howto install Vista from servicepartition without formatting the HD

Hello, when my notebook was delivered I removed the original Vista-installation and installed openSuse. Now I need to use a Windows OS so I prepared my system by creating a fat32-partition in order to fire-up the Lenovo Service Button and simply install Vista right to that partition. Obviously this option doesnt exist - the only way to recover Vista is to completely format the harddrive. I dont want that - I'm gonna stick with Linux as my working OS and just wanna use the Vista OS for a single purpose. So? How can I reinstall the Vista OS I paid for in a place on my laptop I want it to be? Thanks for advice.

create a dual boot sytem and also remember "Vista" is  "NTFS"  sytem  why not go the other way,, reload or re factory install 'Vista"  then create a virtual machine and use easy partion in Disk Manager,, create "linux partition" as a dual boot and then create an icon on task bar and switch back and forth,, both "systems" will boot up and a quick 'click" you are vista, and quick click you are Linux     I set up a triple boot this way but found it worked best with 'Vista 'as primary and linux, solaris etc secondary systems..  just keep an eye on your allocations or size Quotas on each partition, for the secondary systems,, and also "MAKE SURE IN CONTROL PANEL IN VISTA  THAT "VIRTUAL MEMORY"  AND PAGING FILE IS MANAGED BY SYTEM .........NOT A MANUAL SETTING.............. other wise your paging file will go out of control and use up all physical ram and hello blue screen..
check MS for a free multi boot configurer,, all the 'paid ' for sub software are nothing but problems in a disc
