Installing a new OSX version, effects on bootcamp (W8.1)

     Dear all,
Soon OSX Yosemite will arrive and I just installed Windows 8.1 via Bootcamp on my Mac Book Air running the latest version of Mavericks.
My question is, will this upgrade remove my bootcamp setup or effect it in any way?
Also is it possible to backup my bootcamp machine so if I ever have an issue (with software or when I need to buy a new pc) to recover it (looking at drivers etc)?
Many thanks in advance!!!!!!!

my iMac came with Lion
installed windows 7 64bit ultimate eddition
I upgraded to mtn lion
did a digital upgrade of windows 7 to windows 8
I upgraded to mavericks
did another digital upgrade of windows8 to windows8.1
at no point have any upgrade of the 2 operating systems had any effect of any sort for each other

Unauthorized modification of iOS can cause security vulnerabilities, instability, shortened battery life, and other issues
Security vulnerabilities: Jailbreaking your device eliminates security layers designed to protect your personal information and your iOS device. With this security removed from your iOS device, hackers may steal your personal information, damage your device, attack your network, or introduce malware, spyware or viruses.
Inability to apply future software updates: Some unauthorized modifications have caused damage to iOS that is not repairable. This can result in the hacked iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iOS update is installed.
... It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of iOS is a violation of the iOS end-user software license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

I am keep getting this error "The disk is used for Time Machine Backup" when installing the new OSX Mountain Lion" when doing the upgrade to newly OS.

The folder would be at the root of your hard drive. Double-click Macintosh HD and look there.
If it isn’t there, I’m not sure what it is seeing.

Does anyone know the YAHOO authentication method and port? I recently installed the new OSX 10.8.2 software and my mac mail wont work.

    Hello,
I have no idea what you're talking about, however my Mail stopped working when I
had to add a new e-mail address for my Hotmail account.
My new Hotmail address works, and seems to get e-mail from the old e-mail address,
which from I've read behaves as a "default" address for the old address.
Apple Mail is linked to my Hotmail account of the old e-mail address.
I no longer know my old password.
Apple Mail will not accept my new password for ny new Hotmail account.
Can someone help me solve this problem WITOUT COMPLICATED SOLUTION!
As I said I have no idea what a port, or SSL or authentication is!
If you do answer, please answer in vert simple steps that are easy to follow, and donlt make matters worse.
    Thanks,

I was trying to take my Mac air to factory default settings.
I've done all that it says in the documment i was following, and them during the process it asked me the APPLE ID.

  • How do I go about saving ALL data on an imac running 10.5.8 and wipe the harddrive and install an new OSX

I have an old imac running OSX 10.5.8 which for various reasons was never updated further
Processor is 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    It has iphoto 08 7.1.5 (378)
I also have a macbook Pro.  Running OSX 10.7.5
    Processor 2.4 GHz intelCore i5
    memory 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
    This one runs iphoto 11 v 9.2.3 (629.52)
On Both these Machines I want to save all the files  and particularly the photos to an external hard drive.   I can do the files etc but having problems with iphoto.  I want a complete functional copy of both libraries in iphoto and I want to be able to access it and pick and choose which ones I want to use  but not STORE on a new Macbook.  I want to access the photos from several machines and just browse through them.
Then ..  once I have a proper copy of everything  I want to reformat the old imac and install the newest OSX it will run given its Processor etc.    any advice on which OSX it can cope with?
Also possibly upgrade the  macbook pro , so that they talk to each other properly, will access icloud and will also both be compatible with a new macbook pro running Yosimite...
But I want to be able to pick and choose which files I move to the new macbook. Both photos and general filing.
This may be easy for an expert but I am not an expert, I am reasonably competent.. but definitely not an expert and I don't want to mess up and lose stuff.
    can anyone help?

  • I uninstalled the old version Firefox then I tried to install the new one. But it asks me to restart my computer to completely uninstall the old version. I had tried to restart my computer for few times but i still cant install the new firefox version.

I cant install the new version. Everytime i tried to process the program it asks me restart my laptop.

Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
    Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Installing a new opatch version when an older version already exists

    Hi,
I'm going to apply a security patch (CPUJan2009) on 10g databases on Windows server 2003. There is already an opatch tool installed in the oracle home, however the patch requires a newer version. Therefore, is it possible to directly install the newer version into the same opatch folder (what will then happen to the older version? will there be a conflict when installing the new version?) or do I first need to deinstall the older version?
Also, how can I backup the older version? Just copy/paste the folder in another location?
    Thanks.

There is no deinstallation, just do following:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME
    mv OPatch OPatch.old
unzip new OPatch which YOu downloaded from metalink
    And that's it
Also, how can I backup the older version? Just copy/paste the folder in another location?Yes, copy or move. OPatch is simply collection of files, there is nothing installed. so no need to deinstall.

  • Carbon Copy Everything or Install a New OSX?

    Hi All,
I'm upgrading my MBP's hard disk. I would rather just copy my current hard disk (using CCC) to the new one. However, I'm curious if installing a clean OSX to the new hard disk and then copying all my settings, files and applications would provide faster boot up times, processing etc.
    Thanks.

IMO, a straight clone is sufficient. However, you can always do the other, check it out, erase it, do the clone, and make your decision. I haven't reinstalled, except when beta-testing various OS incarnations, since installing Jaguar. All of my normal OSs are updates, based on clones.

  • I have recently installed the new OSX Lion on my 2009 MacBook. Now I cannot get access to my Windows-Partition, which is on the harddisk. I cannot choose to boot from LION OSX or Windows. Who can help?

I have recently upgraded my MacBook to OSX Lion. Now I cannot get access to my windows-partition. I cannot choose booting from OSX Lion or Windows. Who can help???

I believe that Lion and Mountian Lion use BootCamp 4.0 and earlier versions used 3.0. I don't use BootCamp but from reading The link below you need to get new drivers, burn a cd and install. Check out #20 on this page.

  • New OSX version release date - worth postponing purchase?

I was wondering if there is any information on the date of release of new version (10.5) of OSX? Thought it could be worth postponing purchase of new imac g5, if the date is 1-2 months away.
    Thank you in advance.

I agree with Dave. Buy a computer now if you really need one and enjoy it! There is always something different, or better, around the corner. You could always "wait" for the next big thing, and never actually make a purchase.
Late next year is when 10.5 should come out, and it is something I look forward to along with the Intel based Macs. But I needed a comuter now since the logic board on my old iBook died, so it was time to buy. I could have limped along with an old PC for awhile, but decided to get what I really wanted, and start enjoying it.
Hopefully 10.5 will be more than worth the purchase price when it arrives.

  • Is it necessary to keep Premiere Pro CC on my hard drive after installing the newer "2014" version?

After installing the latest version, I discovered that the old Pro CC wasn't replaced by the new "2014." So I'm wondering if it's necessary for any reason to keep the old one, or can I go through the "Uninstall" routine without doing any harm to the new one.

If your only concern is doing damage to the 2014 version, I suspect Adobe built it so that you could remove the old versions and not harm the new ones.
On the other hand, it is good practice to keep the old versions as long as you can. As the others mentioned above you can save projects one version down and if you remove the old Pr you will have to convert your old projects to 2014 if you want to open them. Finally, I am sure Adobe will remove the option to download the old versions eventually and if you have removed them you may be in trouble if you come across an issue that requires an older version.
My advise would be to keep the old versions until Adobe releases a few patches for the 2014 versions just incase some major bugs begin to pop up.

  • Installed Maverick, installed the new iphoto version but it is still not working.. What should I do?

    Hi there!
I installed Maverick on my macbook pro and iphoto wasn't working anymore. So I did the upgrade on my computer (version 9.5.1) but now when I open Iphoto there is a message saying :
"The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.
Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete."
So I still can't access my pictures and I'm scared to loose them all if I do that upgrade... Is there any thing I can do to go back to the old software???
    Thanks for your help!

Make a back up. Bluntly, only an idiot updates anything without a back up.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
Then click yes, and upgrade the app as it requires.

  • Launching Applications installed under Different osX version

I have many applications installed under OS 10.5.8 Leopard (Acrobat Pro v9, many others) that I use frequently. However, I installed 10.4.11 on a separate local disk because I needed to execute historical Mac Classic (OS version 9.2.2) applications and files on my G5. My dilemma is... now every time I am using OS 10.4.11 ... but want to use an application installed on the OS 10.5.8 disk ... I'm prompted to enter serial number/license information for the application all-over-again. Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance for an answer! 8-)

Hi Jay, Many APPs put that info in different places on the Disk, some are tied to the username or UID even, some even tied to the HD name, some even tie it to other Hardware & Software.
The normal way when upgrading is to use Migration Assistant to get all the needed files, but I'm not so sure that would work going backwards/downgrading.
