Installing a program witout user interaction

Hi
Is it possible to build a installation that runs in the background, means no interaction from the PC user?
The senario is, we got at lot of test PCs at different locations and it would be nice if we could push at new version of a program to the PCs and doing it in the background so the operator don't notice it.
regards Bjarne

Thank you
I have made a program with the AppBuilder(LV2012) and want a silent installation.
The link was helpfull (if I use LV6) but it need an update to include LV2012
I have posted a comment for that.

  • Auto-install updates, with no user interaction?

Due to problems with malware, we can't really trust everyone to be logged on with administrator privileges all the time as it used to be with Windows 2000 and XP. Consequently the installed software can not be modified by staff anymore.
This doesn't affect Windows Updates since those can be configured to install automatically on a schedule without any user interaction or privilege elevation.
Java for Windows however does not detect when a logged in user does not have administrative rights, so it offers updates to everyone who logs on, including people who can not and will not ever be able to install the updates.
One "solution" is to turn off the update checking so that people aren't hassled by useless update notifications, but then this means Windows desktops will gradually fall further and further out of date, opening them up to attack by malware that exploits unpatched bugs in older Java versions.
The proper solution that I really want, is for Java to be capable of auto-update and self-install without any user interaction or privilege elevation at all. However so far I have not found a solution for this.
A hack may be possible using Windows group policy, the Windows Server task scheduler, and a java website screenscraper.
    Nightly:
    * Screenscrape Java.com for a newer client version
    * If new one is found, download, put in global read-access share
    * Using a database of machines known to be running Java, flag each candidate that's using an older version
    * Wake-on-LAN the machines needing the update
    * Schedule a remote install of the update with Administrative privileges
    * If update successful, clear flag for that machine in central database
    * shut down again for the night.
    OR
Java programmers could implement an auto-install mechanism of their own, that can run by itself without user interaction at system startup, shutdown, or on a timed schedule set by the administrator through registry entries (and therefore configurable via group policy applied to desktops).
    ==========
How are other network administrators handling managed business desktops that need periodic, automatic, and non-interactive Java updates?

We use Altiris Software Delivery solution to deploy our Java updates but you could also use similar solutions such as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.
The problem is that these are both options that cost money and require investment and training.
Altiris allows you to create a collection based on the text string held in the Add/Remove Programs list (as well as other fields) - so you can easily create a collection of computers that do not have the required version of Java.
You can then create a software delivery task to silently install Java with admin rights and target it towards the collection that needs updating.
The collection updates dynamically. As the computers get Java they drop out of the collection and are no longer targetted for upgrade. This used to work well for me - as I could update about 500 machines in about 2-3 days.
The problem is that the Java installer doesn't work consistently as you mentioned since JRE 6u25 - the installer doesn't always behave as expected and the switches to do silent installs keep changing. You also have a problem if you try to update Java and the person has their web browser open... Yes, I do my updates during working hours as well.
In a constantly changing environment in terms of security - you'd think Oracle would have sorted the deployment options out by now?

  • Program installed for only one user

Have a program that is installed for only one user, how can I get another user access to the software? don't have install disk.
    Thanks

Select the application's icon then Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the Ownership and Sharing section check the owner and group assignments. If they have owner=you and group=you or staff, then you must change those. Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder and enter the following command line at the prompt:
    sudo chown -R root:admin
Put a space after "admin' then drag the application's icon into the Terminal window and press RETURN. You will be prompted for your admin password which will not be echoed.
This should enable other users to access the application provided you have given the user access via their managed account preferences in Accounts preferences.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 installed?
How far into the opening of the program do you get? Do you get to the Expert or Quick workspaces?
And, if so, how long can you stay there? What are you doing when you get this message, opening a new project
or opening an existing one that has been saved/closed or just trying to launch the program from the desktop icon.
Are you running the program Run As Administrator and from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
Do you have the McAfee antivirus program? Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer
    with Premiere Elements 12?
What video card/graphics card does your computer use? Have you verified at the web site of the manufacturer of the
card that the video card/graphics card driver is up to date?
If you do not know, check the Device Manager/Display
Adapters to determine if you have 1 or 2 cards.
Depending on your answers, the next step will be
Uninstall the program the usual Control Panel way.
(If you can get into the program long enough to go to Help Menu/Sign Out, please do that to deactivate the program
before going to the uninstall in Control Panel area.)
Do a run through with ccleaner (both the regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts) to get rid of leftovers from
    incomplete uninstalls and reinstalls.
    https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
Reinstall the program with the antivirus and firewalls disabled.
(If you have McAfee as the antivirus, that may be problem, and we can take care of that without having to go
    through this uninstall/ccleaner/reinstall.)
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Premiere Elements 10 & Elements 10 installed in wrong folder(users) how to move to the default folde

Due to the fact that I misunderstood some of the instructions, my 2 programs are installed in the "users" folder instead of the "applications" folder on my MAC. OS 10.7.4 Is it possible to MOVE/DRAG these applications into the correct default folder(applications)? If so, is there a safe procedure for doing so. I have installed the programs but have not launched them as yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

You should uninstall the software, and then reinstall in the correct folder. Attempts to move the folder will not work, and might mess up the system.

    Hi,
I have installed Aqualogic User Interaction 6.5, with Weblogic 9.2, Apache 2.0.63, Oracle 10g.
    Portal Diagnostic is running successfully.
But while i am trying to start the weblogic server it is throwing me the following error-
    Task 'InitPortalObjects' failed on startup
    Task #1 <InitPortalObjects) Step#3
    OpenKernal Initialization Failure(Java)
Recommendation:Review the detailed exception listed below for specific analysis. Check that pthome.xml is in the correct place, check that the PT_HOME environment variables points to it, and check that your database settings by runing ptconfig. Check that your database settings by running ptconfig. check that the portalconfig.xml file is accessible by the web application server.
My pthome is in the correct place, also the PT_HOME is pointing at the correct place.
Also the weblogic is pointing to the other machine. Is this the reason for the above error?
    Thanks in Advance!

  • Microsoft Word Has Not Been Installed for the Current User

    Hi, everybody
I'm just starting our attempt to put together ZfD app packages for MS Office 2007. I've tried 2 different route with poor results for each. I'm looking for guidance and suggestions and, hey really, the simple final solution. :)
Objectives: Each app package will install locally one of the Office apps (e.g., Word) if it is not installed and then launch it, otherwise it will launch it. It gets installed locally to the C: drive using all the MS default choices, but runs from the desktop ZEN/NAL shortcut. All desktops are XP, not Vista or W7.
    Routes tried and failed...
    1) Simple app, uses distribution and run scripts to figure out if already installed, then installs using network shared drive and config.xml file for just the one app. The result ought to work -- no particular error in the package, those are fixed -- but what happens is something different each time with the MS setup.exe, and it never does complete without its own error (various and different each time). So, this appears to be completely unreliable because launching MS's setup.exe from a simple app is unpredictable and incomplete.
    2) Snapshot of a successful setup.exe and config.xml install. This ALMOST works... well it does in fact work but the snapshotted app gives an error once it finishes launching -- "Microsoft Word Has Not Been Installed for the Current User" -- and exits. From the research I've done on this message, the MS program sees the "wrong" Windows profile on the destination environment, compared to that in the snapshot, and figures it's now been installed from a bootleg copy of Office 2007.
At this stage all I can think of is expletives. We've paid for everything, I've followed all the usual and customary steps, played by the rules, been polite (and also used the necessary computer swear words), and now I just want to insult everyone in Microsoft's marketing department for ruining everyone's life yet again. Can't we just do this, is it too much to ask!?!
Please help me. What is really going to work for distributing and maintaining Office 2007 apps using our ZfD environment? ALL USEFUL SUGGESTIONS WELCOME. Thank you. Bless you.

These questions are really best in the Microsoft Office Forums.
These are MS Office Questions not ZEN Questions.
Novell did not design Microsoft's Office Install.
I have nothing against snapshots, but it does not work great with the Office
installs, which you yourself know since you are posting here with problems
    based on that.
And your other method you are trying with the break out is not working well.
We also know that from experience.
We can tell you that the way most people install it and the way most people
succeed doing it, is by doing it the way recommended and designed by
    Microsoft.
    ZEN does that just fine.

  • My MacBook is asking for a password to install a program, but I didn't set one.

My MacBook is asking for a password to install a program, but I didn't set one. I've just completely wiped my laptop due to corrupt files, which an Apple Genius in the store helped me with, and we didn't set a password. I'm now home and trying to download programs that I had on before, and it's asking for a password. I try to go to "change password" and it asks for the old before I can enter the new, but there is no old. What should I do?

    Hello chilondon,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The password your Mac is prompting you for is your administrator password for the computer.  If none of the attempts to enter it in worked, including leaving it blank, you can reset the password by following the directions in the link below.

  • Can't install a program because its saying it's already on my HD

even though I removed the program.
The program i am talking about is Xilisoft Video Converter. I had a version of Xilisoft DVD Creator on my HD, and when I went to go install Xilisoft Video Converter it said there was a newer version of this software already installed on this disc. Now that's not true for two reasons; 1. Xilisoft DVD Creator and Xilisoft Video converter are two different programs, and 2. I removed Xilisoft DVD Creator from my HD.
Can't seem to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated

    Hi there
Maybe you Delete the App from Application Folder !!!!
if yes, Just have Look on these Folder
    1.Users/Your Home Folder/ Library/ Preferences
    2.Users/Your Home Folder/ Library/ Application Support
**Users/Your Home Folder/ Library/ Xlisoft - this one is my opp this is not important( 3rd one only)
if you found any Folder name called Xlisoft try to move to desktop or Trash.
after move those folders and Files you will be able to install your program again
try 1 and 2 , i am sure you will find the way out

Press the command+tab keys and if anything is listed in the dialog window that comes up, other then Finder, then you have some programs open even if there are no on screen windows displayed for those programs. Once the name of the program is in the menu bar press command+q keys to quit those programs.
