Installing a second hard drive in a G10-133

Couple of questions for you...
I'd like to install a second hard drive in my G10-133. Specifically I'm looking at a second 80gig drive (MK8026GAX). Does anyone have experience of installing a second drive like this?
Secondly, I know where to buy the drive from. But, does anyone have any advice about the drive carriage itself (ie. the bit of kit which holds the drive in place in the bay)? Specifically, where can I get one?

Hi Andrew,
Ignore Markus, you dont have to install the same size HDD in order for it to work. Your Qosmio shipped with an 80GB, you can put a 100GB if you like or a 20GB doesnt matter, aslong as you, as Markus correctly states you set the jumper correctly.
For the HDD to be fitted, you need the mounting brackets, try someone like Hugh Symons or CBC Computers, Google it for details.

Cannot find a mounting to install a second hard drive in my Qosmio x70-A

I have looked all over the internet and have gotten no where in my search for a mounting for the secondary hard drive bay in my laptop. Anybody know where I can get one?
Also I've included pictures of the secondary drive bay and the primary bay. From the looks of it I can't use the same type of mounting in the secondary bay as in the primary.

I have the same issue, and have found Toshiba support to be completely unacceptable on this.
After getting bumped around from sales to tech to sales because "we don't answer that question, you have to talk to the other guy", I finally got a "straight" answer from sales:
"Sir, we DO NOT sell that part, and therefore I CANNOT tell you a part or model number for the part you may need to install that second hard drive. The only thing you can do is talk to our parts supplier over at National Parts (1 800 524 8338) and ask them to provide you with the model numer or sell you the part."
At this point, I was annoyed, but thought that at least with a straight answer I could proceed.
After a very short hold time with National Parts, a very kind associate answered the phone and listened to my tale of woe. Unfortunately, she was unable to help and said:
"Unfortunately, sir, I have listed that while there is no caddy for the second hard drive slot on you X70-A specific model, there is supposed to be a mounting bracket. Unfortunately, we have been trying for MONTHS to have Toshiba give us the part number, spec, or any other information other than 'mounting bracket', and therefore I'm afraid we have neither a part to sell you nor a part number for you to go looking for one".
At this point annoyance is full-blown anger. How is it possible for Toshiba to make something that should be SO SIMPLE so VERY VERY VERY complicated and impossible.
"Sorry, if you didn't want to spring for the dual drives when you bought it, you're hosed forever sucker." Does not seem like an excellent customer service strategy.
This was the FIRST Toshiba I'd ever decided to spend my hard-earned money on, and now it's a machine I can't upgrade because they can't get their act together with their parts supplier or in-house over a 3 dollar bracket?
UNACCEPTABLE.

For some reason I'm having problems finding the answer to this. I would like to install an ssd, but I would like to keep the existing hard drive for space. Is the a way to install a second hard drive (an ssd) into the x220i?

Installing a second hard drive in a G4 - advice needed please

Hi......
I have a G4 Quicksilver (2002) model and I also have a G4 Digital Audio model as well which is currently surplus to requirements.....
I would like to take out the 20Gb hard drive from the older G4 and put it into the Quicksilver as a second internal hard drive (for extra storage capacity....)
I have seen the instructions regarding installing a second hard drive and it doesn't seem to complicated....
I just want to check because the 20Gb hard drive has the operating system on it for the older G4.....
Do I have to fire up the machine and erase the hard drive and then take it out and put it into the Quicksilver...?
Or am I able to simply take it out, put it in the Quicksilver and erase it when I restart the machine....?
I don't have the original installation discs for the OSX...
I talked to a Mac technician at work and he said I can just take out the 20Gb hard drive and put it in as a 'slave' drive and I have to 'bend some pins' (I think he said) when I install it.........and I can then erase the second hard drive and use it as storage.....
any advice would be greatly appreciated.....

Ony many drives the label showing jumper pins configurations will be on the end of the drive, just above the block of pins; on other drives it may be on the top, rarely on the bottom.
The block of jumper pins is at the same end of the drive where the data cable (wide, flat ribbon cable) and the power connector plug in.
It is best to move the jumpers before installing the hard drive - they're quite small and hard to manipulate in a confined space. Important - do not move jumper pins if the drive is powered up (running).

In addition, with regard to specific jumper positions, that depends on the make (and sometimes the model) of the drive. There are some resources available on-line, such as jumper diagrams for specific drives. If you would give us the specific make (manufacturer) and model number of your hard drive (that info should be shown on labels affixed to the drive), we may be able to direct you to a specific website page with that info.

I am new to Apple computers and just got a Mac Pro. I want to install a second hard drive to run Windows on. I put the new hard drive in, now what? Boot camp won't let me select this new drive, it says it has to be installed on the current booted drive. What do I do? Thanks.

The simplest thing to do if
you want to use an entire drive for Windows/Boot Camp
is to format the drive yourself using Disk Utility.
You will need to repartition the drive using the
Master Boot Record partition scheme (Partition tab >
Options…) and format it as a MS-DOS partition. Once
you do that, hold the option key down during the boot
phase and you'll be given the option to start from
the Windows CD. Do do and you should have your second
drive as your C: drive. Then, format it NTFS and
follow the usual Windows installation.
Do I still have to run boot camp once I install Windows on this drive?

My HDX16-1200 manual says I can support a second hard drive, however I opened up the computer and do not see a spot to mount the drive.

Basically my questions are:
1) Once I've installed a second SATA internal hard drive, do I have to wipe the entire contents of my first hard drive and reformat the Mac completely? Or can I just format that second hard drive and have it work seamlessly with my current configuration?
2) I understand I can partition a second hard into more than one volume. I'd like to be able to use the second internal drive, but also have the increased reliability of RAID. Can I create a RAID array on that drive as well? How might I do this without screwing up?

hi. i just bought a 400 GB hitachi desk star hard drive to install as a second drive in my G5. i slid it in the alloted slot and plugged in the corresponding cables. when i powered up my computer i went to disk utilities and it showed no new drives. anybody know what i'm doing wrong?
also, i couldn't find and screw holes or anything to secure the drive in the slot that's there for it. any way to keep the drive from wiggling all around in there?

I bought an HP Pavilion 500 - 319na desktop in summer and want to install a 2nd hard drive. There are spare connections on the board and the power cable to the internal hard drive has a spare connection. From what I read it needs to be SATA 3. I have read conflicting advice on this board. Some say yes, some say no.
OK, there seems to be only one bay (a poor oversight by HP) but provided I find a way of securing another drive is there any reason why it should not work.
From what I read it should be max 2Tb's.
I want a definitive answer please!
Win 8.1 64 bit.
This is the hard drive I plan to buy. The spec says XP, Vista, Win 7, but am I right in thinking it should work with win 8.1

As I said to you in the other cross posting (desktop hardware):
You can obtain 3.5" hard drive cage from here for $11 shipped. Granted it has a 120mm fan and space for 4 drives, but for the price, you can mod/cut all you want.
Now your other issue/question: You will want a SataIII 6GB/sec drive 2TB, 7200 RPM.

Help installing a second hard drive in HP ENVY 700-230qe CTO Desktop

I am trying to install a Western Digital 1.5 TB (model # WD15EARSSP) internal hard drive to my HP ENVY 700-230qe CTO Desktop PC. Would you please provide me the instruction menu and procedure for the second HD installation? What kind cable and other supplies do I need to connect the new HD to my PC? Bling888, welcome to the forum.
Here is a guide that should help you. Be certain to watch the video. You will need SATA III cables; power and data. Although, the SATA 1.0 cables will work fine if you don't have the others. I have found that the straight cables have always worked for me.

Trying to install a second hard drive on a G4/433Mhz

Hello,
I have a friend that has a G4. She bought a Seagate 400GB hard drive that she wants to use. I warned her that it could be done, but the speed would be affected, so I bought a Acard 6280M ATA/133 PCI card. After installation, the G4 boots with the grey Apple, then after a while, it changes into the international "no" symbol. I tried resetting the cable, verified master/slave drives..nothing seems to work. The drives boot fine in the regular port on the logic board (of course with the second drive showing less than 400GB). I also tried booting off the card with just the master drive, but still the "no" symbol comes up.
Any suggestions?

I am having a SIIG card sent to me, so if the same thing happens, I will now know better on what to do. Sounds like it wasn't the card at all...
