Installing a Wireless Adapter

Ok, I'm trying to install a wireless adapter and put in the disc and its not opening up the main screen. I double clicked it and the file window opens up I double click the "autorun.exe" file and it tell me to "choose an applicatin to open document" I also do it with the "ini, inf" files and it says the same thing. I don't know what to do. the device is Mac/Pc compatable. can someone help me.

The "autorun.exe" file is a Windows/PC application. You can't use it on a Mac.

    Hi,
if you have the Agere MiniPCI WLAN card installed, the system needs to install the following registry key with the driver for the WLAN card:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters]
    "IrqRouteToPciController"=dword:00000006
    I've found an installation instruction:
    1. Clean install Windows XP Service Pack 2 package
or Clean install the Windows XP Gold package and install Service Pack 2 update image on it.
    2. Copy the TICardBusIrqRouting.reg to the system, then click the file on the system.
    3. The following window will appear,
"Are you sure you want to add the information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG to the registry"
    Then select "Yes".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
    4. The following window will appear,
"Information in xxxxx\DISABL~1.REG has been successfully entered into the registry."
    Then click "OK".
xxxxx is the location of TICardBusIrqRouting.reg
    5. Reboot the system
    Good luck!

  • WRT546 Wireless Adapter not picking up signal

We have 2 computers, one hard wired and the other wireless for the internet. The system has been working perfectly until we switched out the wireless computer for a new computer. Spent several hours on this and hours on the phone with Linksys. We had to install the wireless adapter and are thinking that this is where the problem lies. Are there any suggestions on the correct way or port to install the adapter? It looks like there is only one place to put it. Nothing in the User Guide shows how to install the wireless adapter.

may i know the model number of the router and wireless adapter? you have 2 computers right? 1desktop and 1laptop? or 2desktops? 2laptops?

  • No wireless adapter after clean install

I have an X61 and did a clean install of Windows Vista Ultimate and now my internal wireless adapter card is not showing in my device manager.  It worked before the install, so I know the hardware is there.  What do I do?

Inside your device manager, do you have Yellow Question Marks next to other devices or any issues with your chipset drivers.
The WiFi adapter drivers are useless if the chipset that supports the socket, that supports the WiFi card are malfunctioning or missing.
Hopefully, you aren't being encumbered by user mode privileges and you've thoroughly executed the system in manager / Admin mode and experienced the same issues.
Don't just sit there, take a second and use the Kudo's button to compliment the people who help you.

  • Unable to Install Wireless Adapter (NIC or a USB) to Pavillion p6340a Win 7 Home Prem

I removed a working TP-Link network card from a Pavillion a1300a XP Home  PC to put in my Pavillion p6340a Win 7 (64bit) Home Prem PC.
Downloaded and installed current drivers from TP-Link.
All installed well and the adaptor can be seen in under "Change Adapter Settings" in Network & Sharing Centre and shows as working properly under Device Manager  but it is not recognised as a Network within Network & Sharing Centre.
Under "Manage Wireless Networks"" nothing is shown, if I then click Ädd" then Manually Create Network Profile"" I then get a very informative error message ""an unexpected error occurred".
Suspecting a problem with the NIC I deinstalled it and its drivers and tried to install a USB wireless adapter with the exact same outcome and error message. It appears there must be some OS problem or something stopping the wireless network from functioning. Both the NIC and USB adapter work fine when installed on the old Pavillion a1300a XP Home PC. Both NIC and the USB adapter have current Win7 drivers.
Any ideas as it is driving me mad. A simple 5 minute task on any other PC has turned into many.many hours with no solution.
    This question was solved.

After many hours uninstalling re installing & trying everything under the sun in many forums, I finally found a solution. Despite trying with firewall disabled at different times the final fix was
uninstall the NIC and USB drivers and devices.
Next uninstall the AntiVirus (in this case AVG Internet Security)
    reinstall the NIC and drivers
    Reinstall AntiVirus
Tried the USB adapter as well whilst the antivirus was uninstalled and it installed no with problems as well.
    All working fine.

  • T60 - No Wireless Adapter Installed - Help!

    Hi.
I've got a T60 running XP. I can't connect to a wireless network, because the computer claims a wireless adapter can't be found.  I tried downloading and installing a new driver for my network card, but that did not help. (The downloaded file was 6hcx05ww).
Please advise on how I can resolve this problem.
    Thanks.

    1. Hi have you tried to Rollback the drivers that were installed over the old ones, as this would solve the issue if you can see the hardware you have an issue with in the Device Manager.
    2. Reboot and do a "Last Known Good Config"
    3. Or do a system restore, if you have a point before you installed the new drivers this would fix the issue for you.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
    All the best.

  • Just boot camped mid-2012 MBP using Apple's BootCamp 5.1.5621. However, no wireless adapter is listed in device manager

[In Windows 8.1] When I access the Device Manager, it does not list my wireless adapter as one of the devices available. I have attempted to manually install the drivers from the BootCamp 5.1.5621 file.
I've spent several hours attempting to remedy this but have only found threads explaining how to solve the problem if the 802 adapter is already listed in the device manager.

I recently had some BT issue's in Win8 so I wrote a topic about this subject. Maybe you need to replace the Broadcom drivers as well.

  • WUSB54G - Wireless Adapter Causing BSOD

Here is one for the support team. I wanted to connect another PC iwas working on to the internet via my WUSB54G wireless adapter. This was a fresh install, but an old computer. At the point in the installation where the adapter is connected to the USB port, Windows keeps shutting down and giving me a blue screen. Any advice?

Did you try to install the adapter drivers and not the software ? If not you should try that...
Make sure you connect the adapter to a different USB Port(don't use the port to which it's already connected)...
Download the adapter drivers from here: http://home.cisco.com/en-us/wireless?referrer=www.linksysbycisco.com
Once you have downloaded the drivers you need to unzip the file...After you unzip the file you should un-install the adapter drivers/software from Programs menu...Connect the adapter to a different USB Port and reboot your computer...Once the computer is rebooted you should see a message "Found new Hardware"...Select the option Install it from a specific location and click Next, then select Include this location in Search and browse to the place where you have unzipped all the files and select the Driver folder and click O.k...Then click Next and it should install the adapter drivers...
NOTE : This installation doesn't install the software(Linksys Monitor)...
Once the Adapter is installed, Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections- Right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select "View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect". See if this corrects your problem...

  • No Wireless Adapter Found in Vista on MacBook Pro with Boot Camp

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro for which I recently installed Boot Camp. After installing Boot Camp 2.0 as well as after updating to Boot Camp 2.1, while all other drivers appear to have installed fine, Windows Vista (64) does not detect a wireless adapter.
Is there a specific driver I can download and install?

A better place to ask your question would probably be the Boot Camp forum.

  • Help: XP driver for 3000 G410 wireless adapter

    Hi All,
My recently bought g410 came with Vistra (only) drivers CD, while I'm installing winXP instead. I downloaded drivers from Lenovo website and everything worked except the winXP driver for "wireless network adapter" (all 3 of them: Gemtek, 3xxx, & 4xxx), the adapter was simply not recognized.
When I look at g410 spec, it says something like "Wireless Network Type: InviLink 802.11BG", does it mean that it is another type of wireless network driver those available on Lenovo's site? If so, where can I get this driver? Can someone help, please?
    Thanks,
    fitro
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear Silens,
Have tried to install the vista driver for Gemtek, and YES, the wireless thing is working now! Thanks for the feedback.
I notice that in the device manager, the device reads something like"Broadcom 802.11g" while from the specification, the wireless adapter should be 802.11bg (the letter "b" is missing from the description). I don't notice any performance issue though, however, would like to know if you have the same description as well?
    Dear Rex,
I don't know how to start the system update software, do i need to download from any website?
    Thanks,

  • Issues with usb wireless adapter

    Hi
    Please excuse my ignorance.
I have an imac (about 2 years old) with a built in airport card. I am trying to use a usb wireless adapter. It has a realtek rtl8187. we have a wifi network here that works with my pc using this adapter but i cant get it to work on the mac. You have to sling the adapter on the window sill but it picks it up fine.
I have installed the supplied software (obviously the mac one!) and it installs the software and driver. After i have restarted, and plug the thing in, it tells me to turn on my wlan card on the supplied software?? It shows up in the listing on network settings as ethernet adapter ((null)). I cannot find any setting to turn on my wireless card, i thought that was airport?
The airport picks up the network but the signal is too weak to connect, hence the adapter with a bit more guts....
I have this beautiful mac, colecting dust and am having to use a pc!
If i connect the usb adapter without installing the software, it constantly has a box popping up in network settings saying that an external device has changed settings! it doesnt stop doing it, until you delete the location...
Can anyone help? I may be being thick and dont have a wlan card or something or airport will not allow me to use this thing. I only just started getting into macs when i moved to spain, where it has sat colecting dust for 3 months.
    I would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks
    Richard

    TNHusker, welcome to the forum.
Cisco makes a router that is good for two-story homes.  I have used it for several years.  My router / hotspot is on the second floor and my Blu-ray player and laptop are on the first floor.  Both work extremely well with the router.  They also make a USB, AM10, that works very nicely with a desktop without a wireless card.
I have had a few problems with both, but have always been helped successfully by Cisco Customer Service.  They are very good.

  • WRT350N compatibility with XBox 360 wireless adapter

I just installed a new WRT350N - all my computers connect just fine - my XBox wireless adapter will not connect.  Is there a compatibility issue?

Make sure that your wireless security is not set to WPA2. The XBOX 360 wireless adapter does not support it. You need to use WPA or WEP.

  • Wireless adapter turned off, wont enable

Hi, I got this Lenovo x201 AC4 yesterday. I installed Ubuntu 11.04, used the wireless till today morning. But then suddenly the wireless icon with LED turned off and wont turn on again and I cannot access any network right now.
    Tried restarting, but no help.
It got disabled when the laptop was running on battery battery power.
I saw another similar thread, but the questioneer was using Windows. As the wireless adapter is turned off, I cannot even find and re-enable it from inside ubuntu.
    Any help?
Update: The wifi led doesnt blink at the time of POST. The bluetooth one does.

I am not sure if I can really help you (I do not have a x201), but since no one else answered yet. I try to give some advices.
The most easiest way to activate the Wireless adapter on Ubuntu is on the right upper corner of your desktop in the wireless menu. but i assume that did not function.
A second method to enable Wireless is to activate it with the key combination Fn+F5, by pressing multiple times you activate and deactivate wireless and bluetooth. Pressing once activates Wireless.
there is also the possibility you deactivated wireless by switching the button on the left side just right from your yellow usb-port. Thats a hardware switch for your wireless, when turned of there is no possibility to activate wireless unless you switch it from red position to green position.
sorry thats all, if there is a driver problem i can not help...

  • The wireless adapter cannot be detected.

I think there is something wrong with my laptop, but this appears to be a little confused. I buy my laptop about 1 month ago, it is Acer V17 Nitro - Black Eidtion. But two weeks ago the wireless adapter is not working (it disappeared from the adapter settings), then I reinstall the driver, it works. Howver, the problem comes back this week from Tuesday. I install the driver, it not works. So I uninstall the driver and then re-install it again, it works. But today when I open my laptop, the wireless adapter doesn't work again! And when I re-install the driver (like what I do before), it doesn't work. After shutting down for severl times, it works again! It takes me really a lot of time! I am so confused about this! Can any one help??? T.T

The problem still exists for twice. And I have send it to the repair centre twice, the first time they replace the SSD, the second they repair the wifi. And now, the third time! Sometimes it works, some time it does not work (which means when I open the laptop every time, there would be a good wifi icon or a red cross icon). When it does not work, the wireless adaptor cannot be detected at all. I have no idea of it.
