Installing Academic Version on 2 machines

I just want to make sure before I plunk the money down for this: It is possible to install the same license for an Academic version of Logic Pro 8 on a laptop and a desktop, correct?
I have an iMac and a Macbook pro, I would like to be able to install Logic on both machines so I can more easily record at other people's houses using my laptop.
Anyone know if you can do this with the academic version just like you can with the regular version? Thanks so much!
Also, does anyone have any experience opening the same project on 2 different machines? As long as the file path is the same on both computers, and they're both using the same version of Logic, there should be no problems, correct?

There's no difference between them, apart from the price.

This will be fine, but you cannot run Logic on two different Macs +on the same Network at the same time+. If the Macs aren't Networked, no problem; if they're Networked, but you only have one of them running Logic at any given moment, no problem.

I have been attempting to install Adobe Photoshop 6, made for Windows and academic version. The Mac system always asks me "which application to open this stuff with?" I don't really have an answer to that question. I've discovered a mysterious and cranky program named Disk Utility, in Applications/Utilities. I just am so ignorant about this. (I am a new Mac user, and a multi-media student and artist). A big reason why I bought this laptop, was so that I could do much artistic and photographic work with this thing! I've seen these things called "DMG" files. What the heck is that? Very frustrated! Any help from a knowledgeable Mac person, (knowing Adobe would be a plus!) would be VASTLY appreciated

You need to buy a Mac-Version off Adobe Photoshop!

Maybe you might also consider to start using a newer version off Photoshop!
It is not possible to run Windows applications on a Mac and vise versa!
The .dmg files are image files! Just like a .iso file on a PC. Most of the applications are packaged in these images. By double clinking on them OSX will mount them on your desktop. Then you can drag-and-drop the application to the Application folder on the Macintosh HD to install them. After installing you can unmount the image and delete the .dmg file. You can see them like virtual installation disk's! Disk Utility is just the application which handles the mounting and unmounting off the .dmg file's!

Seems that you have to update Logic to the latest version (9.0.15) to get it to work in Lion.

I'm with Jim on this. It always seems to work out better if you do not install over another version. You can use this app (freeware - thanks to Jon Chappel) to completely remove ALL Final Cut Studio apps and components: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Once that's done, install your newly purchased version.

I've been using my academic version of Final Cut Studio professionally and decided that I would buy the retail version when Studio 3 came out. So I purchased the New Version and am about to install. Since this is a full version, and not an upgrade version, I'm wondering if I need to uninstall my academic version of Studio 2 first?

Your new full version should just overwrite the old one in any case, but Jerry and the others give sound advice in the thread linked above.

for compatibility reasons? As we know, version 6.8 does not support the 6600, but I use this for my N80. If I also installed the version of PC Suite for the 6600, would the two sit side by side happily, or fight each other and cause tense, nervouse headaches?

Nokia 6600 requires a separate "PC Suite for Nokia 6600" and your other phone works with Nokia PC Suite 6.x which is compatible with most Nokia phone models.
So you need to install these 2 separate softwares (like you were originally asking).
You cannot use Nokia PC Suite 6.x with 6600, it will not authenticate.

how many times can you install the academic version of fcp 3 with the same serial numbers. its not working now and i think it may be because its been installed to the max. anyone know?

I would suggest you call the Applestore and order FCP 5.1. When three was written, os10 didn't even have a big cat name yet. I've been told that there are problems with it and 10.4.8
You should be aware that multiple installs on different machines is very illegal and apple can fall all over you if it wants to. Posting such info on Apple's website is just plain stupid. But hey, whatever.

Uninstalling Academic version of Logic Express

I have an academic copy of Logic express on my Macbook pro and retail version on my iMac. I purchased Logic Pro 8 upgrade and just found out I can only upgrade my retail version. Any ideas on how to uninstall the Academic version from my Macbook Pro so I can install Logic Pro on my newer machine? I have tried trashing(to uninstall) the academic version and using the "upgrade" install feature from my retail disk. I have done this twice and after upgrading from the retail LE disks, I still see the academic splash screen. I haven't reid, but assume I won't be able to upgrade since the screen still indicates "academic". What files do I have to remove to rid my Macbook Pro of its Academic license assumption.

So I don't REALLY know what I'm talking about, but my understanding is that when you install the Logic Pro 8 upgrade, you just need to put in the serial number of your Logic Express during the installation process. I'm just wondering if you even need to mess with trying to install LE on your MBP. What happens if you just do the LP install and put in your retail LE serial when prompted?
I'm curious to know, as I have an old version of LE which isn't installed, and I'm hoping I can use the serial for installation without actually installing LE on my machine.

I'm not 100% sure on an academic version's key but I don't think it should disallow an installation because it's been installed before. Are you sure you aren't flipping zeros 0 and O's.
Your previous installtion is not on another machine in the same network is it?

Installing tryout version encore 2 ...problems

I've been trying to install the tryout version of encore DVD 2 on my computer and is telling my the 30 days period has expired. I don't understand way, I have a Core 2 @ 2.4, matrox rtx 100, I have encore DVD 1.5, premiere 1.5, audition and after effects, I just want to try the new version of encore and premiere , premiere 2.0 tryout version is working fine, but I can't install encore DVD 2.0 Tryout from adobe web site. I reinstall win XP Pro, full format Hdd C:, the first program install it on was Adobe Encore DVD 2, and still the same problem...30 days period expired ... any ideas?

This will be fine, but you cannot run Logic on two different Macs +on the same Network at the same time+. If the Macs aren't Networked, no problem; if they're Networked, but you only have one of them running Logic at any given moment, no problem.

Is it possible to upgrade from an Academic version of Logic 7.1?

I just purchased a new mac 8-core, went on installing Logic studio upgrade, but when it asks for the xskey it says 'this xskey is not elegible, please see upgrade requirements'. i've been using that key for many years and I don't understand whuy it's not working...Could anyone help me, please? If it's an academic version, or a not-for-resale version, then these are not upgradable - ie, to move to the next full version of Logic, you can't just buy the upgrade, you have to buy the full version.
It's common knowledge that Academic versions of Apple's ProApps are not upgradable.
If in doubt, contact Apple.

Are you trying to install the 32-bit version on a 64-bit machine, or vice versa?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Sometimes the App Store version doesn't work correctly. In this case, install 10.8.4 with the Combo version > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1659?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The Combo installer is the safest way to update OS X, and it allows you to update more than one computer with a single download

I think I just got it. I had the actual Logic Pro.app in a folder called Logic Pro inside the applications folder. When I moved the actual app out of the folder and into applications it worked. I am in the process of updating now. However it seems a little strange because that's how it installed from the discs - into a folder named Logic Pro within the applications folder. I would never have figured that out on my own. So thanks for those who posted solutions to other users similar requests.

I am trying to install P6 version 6.0 & P6 version 7 on the same computer, but only the recent installation works.
If I try to repair one of the version installations, the other does not work.
Some body please advise.

The reason is,
The key registry entries are common and shared by All Client Versions on your machine and not separate for each installation.
Even if you being an expert find a method of running multiple versions, the chances of having problems in future are very high.
Note:
Oracle Primavera may not provide full support in case something goes wrong on a machine having multiple P6 client nstallations.
