Installing Acrobat  Reader 8.1.2 with Vista 64bit

Hi
I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat reader on vista 64bit, but after install the Acrobat Reader 8.1.2 takes over all of the Vista desk top and windows apps.
I've searched for workarounds and found none, I cant be the only person with this problem, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have seen reports of this: what seems to happen is that for some
reason Reader gets associated with the EXE extension. It may be worth
searching for fixes for "vista exe association"

After installing Acrobat/Reader on Windows 7 or Vista, icons of all applications/file-types change to Acrobat/Reader icon and double clicking on any icon/file launches Acrobat/Reader (instead of the native application associated to the file type). Is there an easy fix for this problem?

I'm sorry, but I wasn't aware of a native PDF viewer for Windows.
Nonetheless, if you want to change your default PDF application in Windows, you need to right click on any .PDF file, select "Properties",
    then "Change",
then select the program you want to open a PDF with.

  • How do I install Acrobat Reader on a computer with no Internet connection?

I have an elderly friend who does not have Internet access.  She needs to be able view PDF files on her computer which is running Windows 7.  I attempted to download Acrobat Reader install file and put it on a disk to take to her computer and install it there.  When I opened the file, it did nothing.  It just sat there.  When I opened the file a second time, I got a message that it had errors.  She lives 35 miles from me, so I need to get it right the next time!  I would appreciate advice on the following:
What (free) Adobe PDF reader product / version would be best for her?
How do I download the necessary file(s) via my computer & Internet connection and copy them to a CD or USB thumb drive, then take the file(s) to her computer, install and get the reader program up and running for her?
    Thank you for your help!

You can get the full Reader installation from here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/
This is the XI version, which I think is more suitable for a computer without internet access, as the DC version will just nag you about connecting to the cloud and enabling "mobile link", which you obviously can't do without internet access.

  • Problem installing Acrobat Reader on Mac with Mavericks (with error)

I tried ALL the ways to install Acrobat Reader on my Macbook with Mavericks, nothing worked!
It says "Error 301" or something like that and I already tried to download the enterprise version, the offline version, to change the login settings of my macbook. Nothing works...
All started when, at a certain point, I don't know why, it stopped working opening pdf files, saying "error, the file could be damaged or you need an updated version of Adobe Acrobat Reader", so I uninstalled the app and tried to install again. It was when I realized that the mission was harder than  I thought!
Please, if anybody with the same problem solved it yet, please please share it with me!
    Thank you!

I'm sorry, part of it is in portuguese!
How can I post here the install.log file?
    Thank you so much!
PS: Apparently the error now is different, with no number ..

Nothing in the Acrobat 8.x product family is compatible with Windows 7 (or any contemporary OS).
The Acrobat 8.x product family passed into End of Support way back -- (November 2011).
The current release of Acrobat (XI) is compatible in Windows 7.

  • Unable to install Acrobat Reader 9.3.4

What ever I do, Acrobat Reader 9.3.4 installation won't execute.  The file would open and process, but thereafter; nothing happens.  I've tried uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.3.3 using Revo Uninstaller just to make sure that there won't be any issues with the latest installation, but no changes. I've tried downloading the latest version via the download site, but no go. Anyone else having similar issues as me?  I've checked the forums here and other forums to find a solution, but I'm unable to find any.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Mahalos in advance.

    Hi,
I can't install acrobat reader but it seems it's for a different reason from what I'm reading in these posts. When I download it everything seems fine until I try to open it by clicking on the icon or try to read a PDF file. The Adobe reader license agreement pops up, says that I need to accept it before I continue, but there is no accept button!!! I try to scroll all the way down  and nothing; there is no accept button!! I've tried uninstalling it and installing it again, same thing. I've tried the link posted in this forum and the same thing happened. It's really getting on my nerves. Can you please please help me?? It just seems so basic, but I'm totally stuck! Any help will be much appreciated!!!

Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
    See here:
Install the latest compatible version of an app on an earlier version of iOS or OS X - Apple Support
Let us know how that works for you.

I recently installed Adobe Reader X successfully on a Vista desktop running IE8.  Since installing, I am no longer able to open a second PDF document without refreshing.  For example if I go to my credit card company, I can open up this month's statement.  But, if I close the first one and attempt to open an older statement it does not populate and I must use the refresh (F5) key in order for the data to be visible.  If I close all browser windows then reopen a new browser session it will allow me to open any pdf file.  But, again if I try to open another pdf file, it fails.
I have tried to find this issue in this forum and have Googled it as well, but without success.  If anyone else has seen this or has a fix I would really like to hear from you.  Thank you.

Mr. Kazlow this is my first time using the forum so if it is inappropirate
to contact you this way please let me know.
I am running Vista Home Premium.  I do not have Reader Protected Mode
enabled.  I am sorry but I am not familiar with MSIE8's emulation mode. What
would you reccomend for this setting.  Thank you for your assistance.

You may want to try the following:

Uninstall all traces of any versions of Reader using Add/Remove Programs. Then use the installer from the ftp site.

  • Windows Installer error while trying to install Acrobat Reader 8

I am trying to install Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 off the CS3 disc. I already have Acrobat 8 Professional (8.2.3) installed. I just need the Reader. Whenever I try to install the Reader I get the following error, "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnal for assistance."
I have tried all the Microsoft fixes for this situation, but I still keep getting the error message. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Nevermind, I figured out what was wrong. I had disabled User Account Control (UAC) when I was tweaking my OS. So I enabled UAC again and was able to install Acrobat Reader 8 without any problems.

  • How to install Acrobat Reader in a different drive?

    Hello!,
I was just wondering if anyone out there knows how can I install Acrobat Reader in a different drive than just directly in C:. It goes by default there whenever I try to download it from the site, and there's no option anywhere to choose where it will install the program. I need to change the drive cause my C: is too full and dont have much else to delete from it, but have plenty of space in D:. Is it possible somehow to install the program in a different drive than c:? Please help!
    Thanks,

Download the full installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
When you run the installer, use 'Change destination folder' at the bottom of the panel
If you already have Adobe Reader installed on the C: drive, you must uninstall it before installing a new version on a different location.

  • Why can I not install Acrobat Reader in a different drive / directory

why can I not install Acrobat Reader in a different drive / directory. I need to install this in a different drive. I prefer to keep the Os drive free of rubbish. Is there an option in an install to allow this to happen?

What is your operating system & version?
If you are on Windows, download the offline installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and click 'Change Destination Folder' and the first install panel.

This often happens if some other installation (e.g. Windows Update) is already running.
Restart Windows, then run the installer before doing anything else.
