Installing ACS 4.2 on an 1112 appliance

I have a 1112 applicance and I would like to install ACS 4.2. It has an older version of ACS on it and I really don't care if it gets destroyed. I am looking for what would be the best/easiest way to install ACS 4.2 and blow the other install of ACS way. Any assistance would help.

You will need to use the ACS 4.2 recovery CD's to install that version on your 1112 appliance.

Cisco ACS 1113 appliance doesn't support ACS 5.x version. 1113 appliance supports till ACS 4.2.1 version.
Cisco ACS SE 1120/1121 appliance models are required for ACS 5.x

Problem in installing ACS trial version

Hi,
I am having problem in installing ACS 4.1 trial version. On invoking the progem after installation completion, I get the web page "CiscoSecure ACS Trial 127.0.0.1:2002" opened.
Appreciate your advise, why I am getting this web page and how to fix it.

You need to add the site 127.0.0.1 (or localhost) to the trusted sites list in IE then when you open the link you will get the ACS welcome page. (Make sure you install the Java runtime as well).

Reimaging a 1112 appliance to 4.1

I have been trying to upgrade a secure ACS appliance to 4.1 and having issues. If I use the recovery CD TAC had me build it boots and lets me select " re-image hard drive" etc but I loose console access. If I watch the monitor the upgrade (ghost) seems to go as planned but again I loose console access..I can use the 3.3.3 recovery CD and everything works great. Should going to 4.1 be this hard?

Is there any specific time you loose console access ? Nothing special needs to be done for reimageing 4.1.
Make sure the recovery image is for model 1112 and not for 1111 or 1113.

Installing Oracle ebs 12.2.3 VM appliance on a Mac

I am trying to install the ebs VM template/appliance on VirtualBox on my MacBook but I've run into problems when trying to run visionappsconfig.sh. For some reason my local host name and domain appear as "unknown.Home". I have run configdhcp.sh but still find the same problem.
If anyone has successfully installed 12.2.3 on a Mac would greatly appreciate if you can you list the steps, I read somewhere the assemble.sh script needs to be slightly changed.

I removed the vm and restarted this again and this time was able to run both visiondbconfig.sh and visionappsconfig.sh. I also added the 'then' in configuredhcp.sh and run that ok. However, when I now try and login via the browser using hxxp://ebs.example.com:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin - it states 'unable to connect'. Running startvisiondb.sh states '...cannot start already-running Oracle shut it down first' and running startvisionapps.sh makes reference to line 31 and returns 'no such file or directory'.

Unable to install Pre-Built VM for SOA 11gPS5 appliances

I wanted to install Pre-Built VM for SOA+BPM latest release 11gPS5 on my system and downloaded the appliances from the below link:

But I could find one of the installer file size to be just 810 MB instead of 2GB. While extracting oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.001 using 7z, the extraction failed with as error message as below: "Data error in 'oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-ps5-2-0-M.ova'. File is broken. "
Also I could see the processed file size as 14972 MB where as Compresses size as 13098 MB and file oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.007 is 810MB.
Are the expected file sizes for all the oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.001 to oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.007 is 2GB?
Upon running md5sum, every file gave 100% result size, but there is a mismatch in the hexcode as below:
oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z... 100% 5a57717c6c47eef31ac463abda92dc73 for 2nd file oel5u5-64bit-soabpm-11gr1-ps5-2-0-M.7z.002 (2GB)

Did you check the MD5sum to make sure the download was successful?
dowload MD5sum.exe
c:/ MD5sum.exe fille1.......file7
compare o/p with the given

download again the unmatched file
, then try 2 extract with 7zip

Installing Update Manager while using a vCenter Appliance

I created a lab environment with 2 ESXi hosts (5.5.0) and a vCenter appliance (5.5.0).
I need to perform some tests using Update Manager but I was unable to locate the procedure to install it.
I understood that UM cannot be installed on the vCente Appliance.
I can use a Windows Server 2008 R2 host to host it, but I can't find the procedure...
Can anybody please point to a detailed documentation?

You will need just provide IP Address (or FQDN), port, username and password to connect to your vCSA when asked by Update Manager installation wizard (Figure #3 on link that I posted above).

Unable to install ACS on Microsoft windows 2003 Virtual Server

Hi,
I am trying to install Cisco Secure ACS on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition which is hosted on a Microsoft Virtual Server, but the installation doesnt go beyond the enclosed screenshot.
Please let me know whether ACS can be installed on a Virtual Server or not.

We have ACS 4.0 installed in our lab systems on VM. Which VM are you running? ACS has been tested on and is only supported on VMware ESX 3.0 and later. Also, you need to have adequate resources allocated to the ACS/Windows VM instance.

The error that we are getting is generally due to huge accumulation of logs in ACS installation folder :
Please remove all the file from following location and then try ( these files are debug files, so we donot require them) :
\CSAuth\Logs
\CSRadius\Logs
\CSTacacs\Logs
\CSLog\Logs
\CSMon\Logs
\CSAdmin\Logs
\CSDbsync\Logs
Please take a backup of following folder, if auditing is required in our organization :
\Log
After taking backup of this folder, please remove logs from following location:
\Logs\AdminAudit
\Logs\Backup and Restore
\Logs\DBReplicate
\Logs\Failed Attempts
\Logs\RADIUS Accounting
\Logs\ServiceMonitoring
\Logs\TACACS+ Accounting
\Logs\TACACS+ Administration
- Stop any anitvirus software that might be running.
- In the end, ensure that if you are using CSMARS, and you are using pnlogagent, then that service is stopped, which can be done from services.msc.

In how many machines can I deploy this ? Any licenses issues ?

ACS is licensed per-server, so if you only purchased one copy then you are only allowed to install it on one server.

Has anyone installed ACS successfully using Remote Desktop?

I have successfully installed it locally but cannot install it on our remote server. Several problems exist including...
- Not being able to find a valid IIS web instance to install to.
- On the web page, I can't log in.

I have successfully installed P6 R8.2 with an Oracle database using LDAP authentication
and also configured Oracle BI Publisher 11.1.1.5.0 using LDAP using compulsory AD groups such as XML_ADMIN
finally got P6 to connect to OBIP via a LDAP admin/service account
but it took 2 months to get it all that to work...
However, when you say "LDAP" you have to be more specific:
In our case it is MSAD LDAP (Microsoft Active Directory - Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)
in other words, it is LDAP from Microsoft/Windows Networks NOT Oracle LDAP or any other LDAP,
What do you need to know?

ACS Appliance 1112 version 4.1 Web Interface

Hi, I have an ACS 1112 appliance that is currently running on 4.1 and was brought up to patch level 4.1.1.23.3. We were attempting to install patch 4.1.1.23.4 through the Web Console when we lost connectivity and never got it back. After logging in through the serial console, it indicated that an 'upgrade was in progress'. I was able to successfully re-run the install for 4.1.1.23.4 through the serial interface, along with 4.1.1.23.5, however, even after several reboots, I still cannot gain access to the Web Console. I also confirmed that CSAdmin is up and running. Is there anything I can do to remedy this issue without rebuilding the entire device? Thank you.

Make sure that you have the Remote Agent matching you ACS Version 4.1.1.23.5.
I've seen issues where ACS was trying to contact RA and GUI became unresponsive.
Also, by default the ACS allows any TCP ports to be used for Administration HTTP Access, but this could be limited once you gain access.
My point here is that if the web access was working before, it might not be the case, but you could be blocked by a firewall/pix/asa...
Try from a different PC, and a different browser...

ACS 1112 upgrade

How can i go about this or should i go and purchase new ACS appliance(1120)?

a.kiprawih is right, you need to upgrade your ACS 3.2(1) to ACS 4.0, then take a backup of it and restore it in new ACS 1112 ACS 4.0. The easiest way to accomplish it would be take a backup of ACS SE 1111 3.2(1), open a TAC case send your backup to TAC, get it upgraded to 4.0, they'll send you upgraded backup, restore it in ACS SE 1112 4.0 appliance, you are ready to roll. If you dont want to send your backup to TAC, create a test Win2000 server, install ACS 3.2(1), take a backup oif ACS SE 1111 3.2(1), restore it. Upgrade it to ACS 3.3(3) build 11 on Win2000, take a backup. Then again upgrade it to ACS 4.0 on Win2000, take this backup(Final one).
Configure your ACS SE 1112 4.0 basic setup, then restore the ACS 4.0 backup from Win2000, and make sure you have all your IP address and other stuff in place, you are good to roll.
NOTE : While uprading from ACS 3.3(3) build 11 to ACS 4.0 on Win2000 serer, you may hit a bug due to trailing spaces in NAS ip address defined on ACS server. Best way.. Open a TAC case.

ACS Windows vs ACS Appliance

I have ACS 3.3 running on Win2k and am looking to upgrade. Would it be a better idea to get the ACS appliance instead? What are the pros/cons?

Personally I wouldnt choose an appliance over software. Cost aside they are harder to integrate (esp if you use AD), harder to diagnose and patch.
From experience I know ACS sometimes needs a little TLC to keep it working. ACS v3/v4 was not designed as appliance software. This has been retro-fitted with all the issues that go with it.
ACS v5 is supposed to be appliance from day 1 so maybe that'll be ok!
This is my own personal view, Im sure there are a lot of happy appliance owners out there.
Main differences
1) Appliance cant talk direct to AD. You need to install an agent somewhere (possibly requiring a dedicated windows server.. ouch what happened to lower TCO!)
2) No native ODBC, RSA (done via RADIUS instead)
3) Logging. CSVs hard coded to rollover at 10MB. Requires log agent or extraxi csvsync to collect logs.
If you like to be "hands on" stick with s/w

ACS 4.2.1 - after fresh install - admin GUI comes up blank

Greetings:
ACS server: Windows server 2003R2 (VM)
Browser: IE 8
Installed ACS 4.2 (0.124)
Immediately installed ACS 4.2.1 patch 15 on top
Restarted server to kick services
All service started except CSAdmin - which sucessfully started manually
Admin GUI opens to a blank page.
Any ideas?
