Installing actions in PSE7

Hi! I'm trying to install third-party actions in PSE7 and cannot find the folder they're supposed to go in. When I try the things suggested already in this forum I don't have the appropriate folders to place the actions in (photo creations, actions, photoshop actions, etc.). I'm running this program on Vista. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know anything about xml files. PSE7 is really bogging my computer down right now, so I need to do a fresh install of Windows before proceeding too far with all this customization. (I've got a damaged copy of Premiere on there that I can't remove.) I don't know anything about xml files though. Can you point me to a thread on the forum that will help me out with that?
Is Re-Sizer.atn the sizing option that came with it in the Guided Edit section? I am just now guessing that there are atns out on there for download and purchase?
I really appreciate all the replies.

  • How  Do I create a Action In PSE7

    I was wondering how to create an action in PSE7.  I've created them in CS4, but the stops dont work in PSE7.  ???

    Unfortunately, you can't create an action in PSE, only in PS. The stops should work as long as the steps are things PSE can understand, which is significantly more restricted than what you can do in Photoshop.
    However, to get the stops to work, you need to install the action into the effects palette, not the actions player, which won't stop for anything and doesn't give you access to the layers palette, either.

  • Installing Actions in Elements 10 Mac/SSD drive

    I've installed actions in Photoshop elements 9 before with no problem. I just tried to install an action in PSE 10 and here's the puzzling thing: I'm going to Library (not user library) / Application Support / Adobe / Photoshop Elements 10, but instead of seeing the Photo Creation folder and Locale folder, I'm only seeing a Presets folder and in the Presets folder is an Actions folder.
    It's now the same in PSE 9 folder as well.
    At first I thought, cool - Adobe changed this, but the action I put in the action folder doesn't show up and all the instructions I'm finding on the internet are telling me to install actions the way I did before - except those folders are not there for me!!
    Since the last time I installed an action in Elements, I've upgraded my iMac to a one with an SSD drive / Mac Hard drive. I don't know how this might make a difference, but it's all I can think of.
    I'm not really an Elements user, I just use it to test the Actions I make in Photoshop.
    I'm making my action in PS CS2
    My system is 10.7.5

    There are two methods to play actions in PSE10. One from the Effects panel and other from the Action Player Guided Edit.
    To play in Effects Panel:
    Mac HD\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Photo Creations\photo effects
    Put you .atn file and .png file here (as explained by 99jon)
    To play in Action Player guided edit:
    Mac HD\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Locale\<locale>\Workflow Panels\actions
    Put your .atn file in this folder.

  • Installing Actions in PSE 9 Downloaded from App Store

    Hi everyone,
    I'm seeing quite a few folks who downloaded PSE 9 from Mac's app store that can't install actions into PSE.  I've connected to their computers, unhid hidden folders, and looked for the navigation path I would have expected.  That doesn't work.  I ran searches for the native Elements actions like Blizzard and couldn't find them.
    Nothing works.  Any ideas?
    At first I thought this was a Lion issue, but it appears that the App Store is the common theme.  I know the App Store version doesn't have the Organizer, but I was under the impressions that it was the same other than that.
    Thanks!

    Hey guys, thanks so much for your time!
    I've seen it on Lion - a brand new install on a brand new computer and I've seen it on 10.6.7, which is not, I think, Lion.
    Mtstuner, I tried all but one of the suggestions on those links you sent.  Even revealling the hidden files in the Library didn't do it.  But I'll try the last suggestion regardless.  If I could just find where Blizzard and the other native ATNs are stored, I'd be good.
    I even tried that scary typing in the Mac terminal thing.  Never have done that before.  It did reveal hidden files, but not the ones I'm looking for.
    I think it has something to do with the App version.  Without the Organizer, I would expect the file structure to be different.  However, I wouldn't expect it to be so different that I can't find the files anywhere.  I've been able to find them on a million (or so) different computers/versions of PSE/operating systems.  But this is the first time I've ever tried on an App.
    I'm going to reconnect with one of these folks who is having issues tomorrow to see if there is anything else I can try.  I'll report back if I get any more helpful info.  I'm leaving on a vacation tonight, but this has really picqued my curiosity!
    Thanks again for the help!

  • Installing Actions in PSE 9.0

    This is probably something simple... but how do you install actions in PSE 9.0?  I have Windows 7.0 Enterprise, 64 bit.  Particularly, I am trying to Install Pioneer Woman's Actions.  Thanks for your help.

    The directions on the following page should help.
    Just substitute pse9 where it says pse8.

    ps:  I am having problems with linking layers.  One forum tip was command (windows key??) shift.  didn't work for me.

    Using the smudge tool in the video link as she did to adjust the drop shadow is a nifty trick.

    Perhaps, you've seen a Photoshop tip for a shortcut that uses the shift key in place of the ctrl/cmd key in the above help sections to select multiple layers...the two layers and every layer that lies between them. I'm not sure as to whether the shift click shortcut works in Elements.

  • Help with installing actions PSE9 on Mac

    Hi everyone! Thank goodness for support forums! I've been searching all over this afternoon to see if I could just install some simple presets in PSE9--I just got it and installed it on OSX 10.6.
    I just can't figure out how to install actions. I've tried a number of things and it seems pretty simple but for some reason nothing is working (and yes, I've restarted PSE, multiple times in fact).
    At first I was told to go to Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop Elements 9. The only file in there is "Presets" which I opened and there was a list of different files for different stuff (such as patterns and gradients). I thought it looked relatively easy because there's an empty folder in there called "Actions" into which I dragged my actions files. That didn't work, so I tried including the 64 x 64 png image with it, still no luck. Another place said that you should go to Applications > Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 > Locales > en_US and there would be a file called Mediadatabase.db3 that I'd have to edit the file name--I don't have that file in there and it's nowhere to be found on my computer.
    So long story short, whichever method I try, actions still won't work/show up! I'd really appreciate any help on this. Thanks in advance!

    For the first file path, it sounds like you are in the wrong library. You have three library files:
    Your username>library
    System>library
    and the one at the top level of your hardrive. You want the last one.
    Mediadatabase.db3 is in there too.

  • Photoshop Elements 11 and installing actions

    I tried time and again to install actions from Pure and cannot find them once I do all the necessary steps.  I cannot pay someone every time I buy actions and want to install them.  I did all the steps from several you tube videos and think they are in but cannot find.  Shouldn't they be on the right with all my other actions?  I get to the point where I copy the actions and paste them into another file and that's up posed to be the last step and they aren't there.

    In pse 11 there is a seperate panel available for adding/removing action files. You can know more about it from http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshopelements/using/WS57a26560eb6a24db1e1a3067139e6fd9e17- 8000.html
    The simplest way to install an action in PSE 11 is:
    Open Action panel from Window >Action ( the option is available only in expert mode)
    click the right top button to open up the options
    choose "load actions"
    choose your action file and click ok.
    Please note that the action would be available here till you choose "reset actions..". In that case you need to load your actions again
    Please do reply in case of any doubt

  • Installing actions in Adobe Elements

    I have been trying to install actions into my Adobe Elements program. I can't find anywhere
    for actions to go. This goes for backgrounds as well. When I look at the Adobe program file,
    there isn't even a folder marked actions or backgrounds. There is no action pallet. No way to access any backgrounds. Is there something I am missing?

  • Re-installing actions in pse10 on windows 8.1

    PLEASE HELP! Just got a new computer running windows 8.1. Have installed actions many times before and they work great, but now when I install them it shows that its building content but the actions are not there. Please help!!

    The message for "building content" is shown when the application makes MediaDatabase.db3 file for the contents it is going to use inside the application.
    Here is what you should try:
    Quit Photoshop Elements Editor and Organizer
    Delete the MediaDatabase.db3 file from folder "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\10.0\Locale\en_us\" (replace en_us with locale of the software that you use)
    Launch Photoshop Elements Editor from location C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe with holding down ctrl+alt+shift keys and let the application build the content. This could take a little while, so be patient
    Please let us know if this works for you

  • PSE 6 missing folder to install actions

    For some reason I am missing part of the path to install actions on my Mac.  The path I'm taking is~ Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects.  The path I'm missing is~ \6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects.  I'm thinking it may have been my fault, I thought I copied the photo effects files and saved them to my external hard drive, I have since cleaned out my EHD and deleted the trash can.  My effects are still working in PSE but the folder with the Photo Effects folder is not found.  I have done a search on my computer and external components and nothing shows up.  I'm thinking I will have to do an uninstall and reinstall in order to get the path back.
    Any insight on my problem is much appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kari

    You can't find that folder by searching in spotlight. My guess is that you must be looking in the wrong library--it's the one at the top level of your hard drive, not your username>library and not system>library. If you had inadvertently trashed those files, they wouldn't still be working in PSE. (they do still work, don't they, not just show up in the palette?)

  • Help! Categorizing Actions in PSE7

    Last week I upgraded from PSE5 to PSE7. I had a bunch of actions (that actually worked) in PSE5 that I loaded into PSE7. One of the things that I loved about PSE5 was how easy it was to categorize your actions, but in PSE7, it's a little (A LOT) more difficult. I have found numerous tutorials about how to do this by creating an xml file. The problem is that it has worked for some, but not for others and I have no idea why. For example, I have downloaded several "CoffeeShop" actions. I was able to add a "CoffeeShop" category where most of them are... but for some really strange reason, about 5 of them just won't appear in that list! Here's an example of one of the xml files that isn't working:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/1.0/">
    <global>
    <name id="Name" value="CoffeeShopClassicB&WandBittersweetVintage" localize="true"/>
    <type value="effect" />
    <typecategory id="TypeCat" value="CoffeeShop" localize="true" />
    </global>
    </PSEContent>
    Here's an example of one that is:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <PSEContent xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/PSEContent/1.0/">
    <global>
    <name id="Name" value="CoffeeShopAtticVintage" localize="true"/>
    <type value="effect" />
    <typecategory id="TypeCat" value="CoffeeShop" localize="true" />
    </global>
    </PSEContent>
    I've also got a bunch that I wanted to add under a category called "Enhancements" - I can't get that category to show up at all. However, if I go to "SHOW ALL", there they all are! I'm using XP - am I missing something? Oh, and I have deleted the thumbs and metadatabasis so the editor can rebuild. Still won't work!
