Installing after reformat?

Hi, Im going to try and keep things simple here because the
situation is fairly complicated!
Essentially, I need to reformat my PC which has my
installation of Dreamweaver 8 on it. If I reformat and do a clean
install of windows xp, will I be able to install dreamweaver using
my existing product key? With Windows XP, when you clean install it
recognises you are installing on the same piece of hardware and I
was wondering if Dreamweaver and other Adobe/Macromedia worked in
the same way.
I don't want to attempt to install Dreamweaver and find that
because I have already activated the product it refuses to let me
install it! I cannot uninstall the usual way which I believe would
normally de-activate the software and allow you to install it
again, because my computer is almost completely unusable!
Thanks for any help you can give me.

You should be OK - Dreamweaver8 doesn't have the same
'activate/deactivate'
system that DW2004 had. I've moved mine from machine to
machine in the past
without problems.
Worst case scenario, you may just have to call Adobe and
prove you own the
software; but I've never needed to do that.

  • Grub won't install after reformat from gentoo install (error 18)

Previously I had gentoo installed with grub in the / partition in sdb2 (hd1,1).  I got through the arch install after reformatting that jfs partition except grub wouldn't install because it said the "Selected Cylinder exceeds maximum supported by BIOS".  I didn't change any partitioning so I don't understand how that would be possible.
I ran fdisk to fix the partition order, but it didn't have anything to fix.  Another oddity is that when I try to boot up, I get a grub command prompt with no errors, and that mapping is different (sdb is hd0).  I can't really change my partitions, because sdb1 is a 1.5+ tb partition and I don't have room to backup the data.

Well I found a workaround for my problem.  It's not ideal, but I installed grub to sdb1, which is a home partition instead of sdb2 (my /).

  • Installing after reformat of computer?

I am preparing to reformat my computer for a completely fresh install of XP.
After this is complete I will need to re-install itunes and my ipod.
I have the 30GB 5G ipod with the original install disc.
Shortly after purchase the updated firmware was released which I downloaded and upgraded my ipod (leaving me 2 updates in add/remove)
When I am ready to install my ipod again do I use the original disc which came with the pod and then run the setup.exe for the updated firmware which is on my pod now or do I jst use the setup.exe of the latest update?
I have 2005-10-12 plus 2006-01-10 and am totally unsure about this re-install. I don't know if a downloaded update contains all the setup files which means I don't need my original disc first.
Hope this makes sense as I want the re-install to work the way it should in the correct order. One disc and then the update or just the update? help please
    Thanks for any advice
      Windows XP Pro

Thank you for yor quick reply
I will back up my library to an external drive but thanks for the reminder.
The last update worked fine for me but it does make sense to follow your advice and have the option if things should go wrong.
Appreciate your reply & hope everything will work after a re-install.

  • MacBook Pro Unibody Leopard Failed to Install after reformat drive.

    Hello All,
Here is my dilemma. I had a triple boot laptop and everything was fine. I updated Fedora 10 to 11 and after I could not boot my computer. I have everything backed up. I decided to reinstall everything from scratch. I deleted all the partitions. Put the DVD and proceed to install a fresh 10.5.5, everything goes well. Formatted the drive using the GUID partition, HFS+ journaled, the install goes well but when it finishes it fails. The message on the screen says, " The Installer could not make the computer start up from the volume "Mac HD". You may need to select your disk using the Startup Disk Utility. I have reformatted this drive several times, even ran zeros on it onvernite and so far nothing. For some reason I can't install Leopard back on this drive. Any help...???.
    Thanks,
    Manuel

Unibody MBPs were originally released with a special build of 10.5.5 and then later with a build of 10.5.6. You should use only the original OS X Installer Discs that came with the computer.
Given your previous setup I suggest you start as follows:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APT (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options or Security button, check the button for Zero Data (one pass) and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
It's not entirely clear from your post that you've done all of the above procedure.

  • After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine:Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on? the WD disk has mounted??

After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine: "Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on?"  I've reformatted in Disk Utilities...not sure what I did wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

  • Weird cookies after reformatting

Hey, I recently reformatted my macbook pro (today) and after installing all the updates to the point where there were none left, i opened up safari, and set up preferences, and in the show cookies box, there were 2 cookies from weird sites, them being videolog.uol.com.br and rocinha.videolog.tv. My cookies option was set to accept cookies to only sites i navigate to. I don't understand how i Could have gotten any of them after reformatting my MBP and visiting just macrumors and gizmodo

    Welcome to the Apple boards.
Simple enough to check. Delete the cookies and browse to the sites you browsed to and see if the cookies come back.
Some websites get around the "do not accept 3rd party cookies" one way or the other.
You could also have imported them if you chose to import anything after installing.
Some of us use a "hosts" file which redirects many of these to a "401 File not found" by pointing to 127.0.0.1. whenever a URL in the hosts file matches one in the real world.

  • Reloading songs into iTunes after reformatting computer

I recently reformatted my computer but I had backed up all of my music onto an external harddrive
So after reformatting, I load all of my music back onto the C drive and then reinstalled iTunes.
All of my music still shows in the library of iTunes but most have that exclamation point showing that it doesnt know where the file for the song is.
Lately ive been manually dragging songs one by one into the library but i have almost 5000 songs and thats gonna be a reallllyyy long process lol.
So I was wondering what the "fast" way to do this is?

I was watching this topic as well and in the process of watching it i had to reinstall my itunes. I installed a registry fixer program called registry booster2 from uniblue and ran it before i installed quicktime or itunes. I downloaded a seperate up to date quicktime and than installed the up to date itunes and when I put my music back on I did not have any of those exclamation marks.
don't know if it will work for you but thought i would share.

  • I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.

    Hi,
I am unable to install extensions, they show up with "will be installed after you restart Firefox" even after I restart.
The "Staged" folder is present and remains after a restart, but the extensions do not get installed. They show in the extensions page with the "will be installed after you restart Firefox" message and remain like this no matter how many times I restart.
    Any Idea's?
Running Firefox 24.0 on Windows 8.1
    Many Thanks,
    BD
P.S. Just tried to install the "troubleshooter" add-on before posting the question and I got an error saying it cannot install because it cannot modify the needed file. (I did it manually instead)

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons
If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.
If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.sqlite file.

I hope some one will help me by anwsering my question.
    Than you for time.

If your system does not meet the minimum system requirements you have to go back to a version that does. Try the direct download links you'll find here.. CS5 comes bundled with CS4 for AE which is the last  version to run on a 32 bit system.

  • After reformatting hard drive, iPod syncs very slowly with iTunes

A couple of months ago I had to reformat my computer's hard drive. I keep all my music files on an external hard drive. After reformatting, the man who did this for me reloaded iTunes for me and imported all my music back into my iTunes library.
It seems that since that time, when I sync my iPod to the iTunes library, it takes many times longer than it used to. Maybe something else happened to my iPod or iTunes and the reformat is just a conincidence, but it really does seem to take three or four times longer to sync.
I have iTunes 7.4.1.2 and my iPod is an older one, a 40G with dock connector
Also, I recently bought some audiobooks to put on my iPod. I only had about 600megs available so the iPod would not sync. I then removed several Gigs from my iTunes library. When I click on the "music" icon under "library" it shows that I have only a little over 29G used which should leave well over 5 plus Gigs available for the new music. But when I try to sync the iPod, it gives me the message that I have only approx. 600 megs available. What's up. I never have had this problem before and I have had the iPod for several years.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

I actually learned yesterday that Apple didn't put USB 2.0 in their Macs until G5... something I was VERY irritated to find out. Turns out they were betting that Fire Wire would take off instead of USB 2.0, so they only equipped their machines with USB 1.1. So as a result, my iPod is unacceptably slow. Other nagging problems like this are convincing me that I'll have to get a new Mac Pro in the coming year, but for the meantime I think I'll be buying a USB 2.0 PCI card.
    Thanks for your response.

You can go strait to SL, all you need is a retail SL DVD available from Apple for $20. The US online store has them at:
