Installing all MDM servers on same physical host/server
Dear All
For production MDM environment we have installed all mdm servers- MDIS, MDSS, MDS and MDLS on the same physical server.
Will this have any impact on the performance. We are using MDM 7.1 and on HP Unix.
Another question is- If we have multiple repositories Vs single repository with multiple main tables( Vendor, Customer and Materials) why the choice should have performance impacts on the server level.
Thanks-Ravi
Ravi,
I don't mean to muddy the waters here, but performance tuning and system sizing is a slightly more complex exercise than simply determining how many records your repository will contain and how many fields it will have. There are many, many considerations that need to be taken into account.
For example. the MDM server's performance can be dramatically improved or worsened depending on things like sort indices, accelerator files, data types and fill rates, validation logic, remote key generation, number of users, number of Java connections, web service connections, etc. The list goes on and on, and that's not even taking into consideration the hardware (multi-processor, RAM, the physical disk configuration, etc.)
With regards to the Import Server and Syndication Server you have to take into account things like map complexity: are you doing free-form searching to filter records in maps? Are your maps designed for main tables, qualified lookup tables, or reference data? How often do imports / syndications occur? What keys are you matching on when importing? Do you plan on importing by chunks? What is the import volume, etc?
Once again, I don't want to scare you, but I also wanted to bring up a few topics for you to think about. There is a reason why SAP and other vendors charge a fee for doing system sizing.
These are just a few small examples, but the list goes on and on. I hope this helps to get you thinking in the right direction when designing your architecture and system landscape. Good luck!

Installing 2 MDM Servers on 1 AIX system
Hi, Everyone.
We installed second MDM Server on AIX system, where we have MDM server for developers. It's installed with the different user. But, when I'm trying to do "mds start", there is error message in nohup.out :
bind() failed in ServerListeningSocket::Create() with errno 00000000 :
Error 0\"
Initialization failed, error code = 0x83000000
What can it be? First MDM Server is working correctly.
Please help.
Thank youHello Ivan
The error is generated when the second MDS can't attach to a port it needs to listen to.
As of release 5.5, MDM servers use static ports for most communications. Because of that, multiple MDSs cannot be run concurrently on one host. I believe the manuals mention this restriction.
If you create virtual hosts with port forwarding, you can run one MDS per virtual host.
Hope this helps,

Help! We are retiring our Windows 2000 server (finally) and going with Lion Server only. We are transitioning from Windows to Mac and have 30 PC's running XP and a few scattered Windows 7 PC's (Lab). We have teachers and staff using Mac computers. Can I authenticate my windows pc's to Lion server?
1. We are running lion on the old Xservs because we had them. Thought they still would be good file servers. And we thought Lion would work on them but know that mountain lion will not
2. We have looked up some errors and they have to do with spotlight not getting index finnished with all the adobe files in folders, subfolders and subsubfolders. The vnode errors have something to do with lots ofmopen files but we do not know why. Maybe all these many directiries of files in deep hierarchy of adobe CS which the department does shared work directly on the server is issue. We have tried to get them tomuse as archive only but they do not habe a clue how to do shared work on separate clients. This deparment is not very savy in use but imtense Adobe CS users and my concern is these old file servers cannot take this kind of use.?
Imposted the logs because i have no clue to why they keep filling up (the vnodes). -
Install SMD on a physical host
Hi Experts,
I need to install SMD on a physical host that has a lot of sap systems running.
How can I install SMD in this case because I can't install more than one SMD on a physical host?
Thank you so much,
MáHello Marilia,
Yes, you can install multiple SMD Agents in one Physical Host. Just rerun the SAPINST and choose a different SID.
See the attachment for more clarification on where you need to install agents.
Please note that in the attachment AGENT_SCENARIO.jpg it says
"1 agent per host support several managed systems running on the same named host"
It means that if you have, for example, 10 SAP systems, but you define them as belonging to the same host (same hostname), you can use the same agent.
If yoy have 10 SAP systems, but you each one of them as a virtual host, that is, they have their own host name, you must install one SMD agent per virtual host.
I hope it is clear for you.
Best regards,

Najeeb.Hi Najeeb,
Which version of AS you have?.
I think the url which I sent it to U will help you to solve your problem.
If you decide to install new Rep. server (version 10g) U can do it on the same server but in another directory. the new one will have different ports than the old one's.

Limitations of SRM-MDM by NOT using Windows + SQL Server
Hi all,
our consultants told us, that there are some sort of "limitations" if we install SRM-MDM other platforms than Windows + SQL Server; as example we were told, that e. g. the upload of BMECat files is not possible.
Is that true? If yes, where can I get a full list of "platform dependent" limitations?
We don't want to go for Windows nor SQL-Server if possible at all...
Thanx!
Regards,
MarkusHi
<u>Incase you are using SRM 6.0, then -></u>
SAP SRM 6.0 is a big step forward for SRM: SRM 6.0 is the first SAP software to rely on the new user interface technology WebDynpro and the Web Application Server, rather than the previous ITS. It is also based on the completely new business rule framework (BRF) to define approval workflows. These changes are intended to improve usability and simplify workflow administration / customization, leading to better acceptance and lower TCO for our customers. However, the move to these new technologies is also a complex change and as a result, the product has experienced delays.
With our most recent development milestone - service pack 2 in mid-July 2007 - we have made lots of progress towards completion; however, we estimated that the product was still not yet ready for Ramp-Up. As a result, we decided to release the product only in beta shipment and to a very limited set of customers (14 in total) who are being closely monitored by our development organization. Seven of these customers are actually planning to go live on the current beta shipment.
Based on the progress made so far with Service Pack 2, we feel that we should be able to start the official Ramp-Up process on December 10th, 2007 - the target ship date for Service Pack 03. By that time, we should already have 3+ live customers, so new customers starting their projects will benefit from the experiences acquired from previous implementations.
<u>Time plan and Recommendations</u>
1. Ideally, we recommend that new and upgrade SRM customers wait for the start of Ramp-Up for SRM 6.0 SP03 (Dec 10th, 2007) rather than starting a project with the previous release SRM 5.0. SRM 6.0 offers many benefits compared to SRM 5.0 and should be easier to use + maintain. An Online scoping questionnaire will be available from mid October in the SAP Service Marketplace as usual.
2. The number of Beta shipment customers is strictly limited and therefore we do not intend to ship Service Pack 2 to any additional customers besides the 14 customers currently in Beta.
3. Implementation partners can request a demo license of the current support package 2 in the partner portal. They can set up their sandbox systems and familiarize with the new technology upfront before they enter into customer projects from Dec. 10.

Please help!
It would be tremendously helpful to be able to access, set restrictions, and make changes from the parents device, to all devices under the same iTunes account, so that I could make changes to my kids devices without physical access.
I understand that I can set up a different Apple ID for the kids devices, or take physical control of the device and make the changes myself. However, my teenage son is technically savvy enough to have a job in Silicon Valley, as are most young people these days. However, in order to access his devices the current way, I first have to bypass the four digit pass code. This starts a fight of why I need in the device and continues to escalate. The argument that I am the parent will gain access but the fight is simply exhausting, and quite frankly shouldn't have to happen at all. He is not yet an adult, he did not pay for his iPad or iPhone and I, as a parent, should have not only have the right to change options at will, and from anywhere, but look at history or current activity when I feel like it.
I currently have the settings where app and in-app purchases require my password to be put in, and he must come to me to type it in, but I need more control and would like, and should be able to access any of our six devices and make individual changes simply by logging in to my account, with my password.
If I can see all my devices on the "Lost My iPhone" app, this technology should be easy to make happen.
C'mon parents! I have a pretty good kid, given all things that they can get into, but I am not stupid. For everything I see has been done, there is much more I haven't seen. I want my children to be kept safe and be able to know what they are looking at or listening to. We parents are the only ones who know our beliefs and what our kids can handle and when.
Thanks for any support or information that I may be missing in order to fulfill my request. There are mobile device management solutions that can do this, including in Apple's OS X Server system, but most parents generally find that setting this up is more work than it's worth. If you're interested, though, there are a couple that at least purport to be free (I don't know if there are any hidden "gotchas"):
http://www.unwireddevicelink.com/features/
https://meraki.cisco.com/products/systems-manager
and Apple's system:
http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#profile-manager
I don't think any, however, allow you to see current activity or browser history. iOS doesn't expose those to access from MDM solutions, to the best of my knowledge.

Consolidating SIDs onto same physical servers
Hi,
We are currently running R/3 4.6 and HR 4.7 on seperate physical landscapes (Seperate hardware). The question has been asked "Can we combine these two landscapes onto a single hardware landscape, keeping the SIds seperate"?
I am looking for your experiences in running multiple SIDs on the same physical server. (Pros/Cons/Best Practices) We are currently running Solaris 9 Oracle 9.2
Thanks Rob
[email protected]Yes you can.
Reasons to do it:
1. Save on maintenance and os administration (less servers).
2. Save on hardware costs (usually cheaper to buy one bigger server and two smaller ones)
Reasons not to do it:
1. Loss of flexibility when performing maintenance (eg. say you need downtime to apply a OS patch - you will now need to have both the systems down at the same time)
2. Complications in the upgrade path - say you want to upgrade one of the systems and this requires you to do a database/os upgrade first. You may be forced to seperate the systems again, or upgrade both concurrently.
There is nothing all that difficult with setting up two ABAP instances to run on the one server - with Oracle, the only complication is in setting up the listener (either to have two different listeners on different ports, or to run one listener for both SID's). There are several OSS Notes that explain how to do this.

Since installing Yosemite outgoing mail fails in Apple Mail. All the servers show (off line) I have checked setting and they are all okay. Incoming mail works. Any help would be appreciated.

I just purchased Photoshop 13 for PC MS Windows 8.1 In trying to install, I get the following message after clicking on the 2nd file. "The file archive part of Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 is missing. You need all parts in the same folder in order to extract Adobe Photoshop Elements 13. Please download all parts.: I've also gotten an Exit Code: 7 when trying to install. I've turned my McAfee virus system off while trying to install.
Hi,
Have you tried downloading Photoshop Elements 13 from here?
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-10-11-downloads.html
There is only one file to download - which one depends on your system (32-bit or 64-bit).
These are the trial versions but will convert to the full version when you supply your serial number.

same user with administrative rights on all the servers in single domain user as a part of administrator group in all the servers:
same user is configured as administrator on all the servers in one domain at windows 2003 server. Should this user be made part of domain admin and then this can be set up in the group of administrator for all the servers.
How this is technically different?
If same user is set up as an administrator on all the servers in domain, will it have the same access on all the files as a domain admin user?
dhomyaIf the account is not admin on the domaincontrollers and the account is not member of domain admins or any other privileged AD group, the account has only user privileges on AD and thus cannot perform actions like creating and managing accounts,
groups, OUs,policies, sites, ...in other words cannot potentially ruin Active Directory.
I think that is a pretty big difference.
In fact, it is bad practice to perform you daily server management with an AD privileged account.
In regards of file access. The domain administrator will be just an admin, and thus has the privilies assigned to the local admin group, just as any other admin. But if it are different accounts they might be member of different groups assigning different
privileges. Always be carefull when assuming resulting privileges will be the same.

Why, when I try to install the latest iTunes update, itsays that I have an "invalid" signature...I have used this same machine and have installed all the previous updates with no problem.
That one suggests the installer has gotten damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer? -
