Installing An Older Package

I cannot stand the way Mozilla 1.4 renders fonts on the tool bars and in the menus. I know, I know they're configurable by editing userChromer.css but have you ever tried making sense out of their syntax; I can't, I'm just a human being.
Anyway, I've been perfectly happy with Mozilla 1.3.1 and because of those infinitessimal toolbar fonts in 1.4 don't want to change. I see that we have a PKGBUILD at CVS for 1.3.1. I can't make sense of how to access it. I'd dearly like to have 1.3.1 on this machine. What do I have to do?

marin_linuxer,
Would you kindly expand on a couple of things here:
1. Respecting Mozilla's Preference -> Appearance -> Fonts and the selection of "Other" in the Display Resolution Area, precisely how and  what are you measuring with your ruler?
2. Explain xrdb -merge kindly.
I looked at the possibilities of making an adjustment of display resolution but never knew where I was starting from because "system settings" was selected. Have had to edit userChrome.css to deal with menu items and toolbars. I'd appreciate your going into some more detail.
jlowell
1. Moz draws a line in a dialog box right in the middle of your screen ('bout 3" or so horizontal)  measuring that tells moz your exact Horiz dpi so it can draw the menu bars and such regardless of your X or Windoze screen settings.  To get your 'starting' dpi, which moz refers to as 'System Setting', do the following:
# xdpyinfo |grep 'resolution'
2.  I'm afraid I don't know much 'bout the xrdb thingy, I've never used it.  The solutions I mentioned always did the trick.  The 'DisplaySize' variable in the XF86Config lets the X server know the dimensions of your monitor's 'viewable' area in order to compensate for whatever resolution you choose(i.e. 1024x768; 800x600; etc.).  When I say 'viewable' area, I mean:
1.  Turn monitor brightness to MAX
2.  Measure, in mm the 'exact' viewable dimensions of the actual 'glowing' part of your monitor, _NOT_ necessarily the edge-edge of the glass or plastic frame.
3.  If using LCD monitor, you can also get these specs from your owner's manual since LCD's are fixed and constant(unless you've done someth'n really weird to your settings(!) -- just hit the 'AUTO' adjust button in that case--IMHO).  Then measure the exact H & V of the visible pixel map, again, in mm using your ruler.
Hope that helps and just so you know, by doing these things you are adjusting the core of the display system instead of of making compensations later in the cycle.  Now XFT/Freetype/Fontconfig are another beast altogether and whomever said it earlier about needing the XRDB thingy may be correct for those issues(RGBA/hinting/etc.).  I've been fine with their defaults after making my corrections initially.  IceWM has XFT support and it looks great without the XRDB stuff, so ....... YMMV!!
Cheers.

But I posted a list of such links in a post before him ... See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p1395468 You need to switch to 'tree' view, because 'commit' shows the changes, not the full PKGBUILDs etc.
That's why I'm asking what's going on, as you both didn't seem to notice my posts, but it's all good now :-)
    A tip for beginners:
    * search for the package you're interested in https://www.archlinux.org/packages/
    * go to its package page https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extr … ostgresql/

  • Flash player v10.02.159 won't install - how can I install an older version?

Hi all, any help will be appreciated.
I've read all the relevent posts in this forum and tried the various suggestions. (used the Adobe uninstaller, used the various packages on the x64 help page; clean installs and uninstalls with RevoUninstaller Pro) shockwave for director is on Firefox, but would not even download on IE. (I don't use IE anyway, but...)
    I am running XP pro x64. I have Firefox v3.6.16 and Internet Explorer v 8 32 bit. I don't have the 64 bit installed.
When I updated to v 10, it wouldn't install on either browser. The error message for the Flash player 10.2 installer reads:
I am also running Chrome. I never updated the player, so it works on there (thank goodness!) (Nothing shows in the extensions folder)
I tried to install an older package, flashplayer 9r280_win.exe and Brothersoftdownloader_for_Adobe_Flashplayer. - clean installs and uninstalls each time., also with no luck.
Can someone tell me how to install an older version until the 64 bit version works for me? Or - if there is a fix that has not been posted yet - I'm game to try.
    Ta

You could try if the MSI installer works better; download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
If it does not, archived FP versions can be found at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

  • Installing an older vst when there is a newer version ?

Im trying to re-install an older version of a VST callled slayer 2. I have removed the files of the newer version from VST folders and also the preference files. However when trying to install the old version Im told I have a newer version already installed. Ive looked at folders like receipts to see if theres anything there to trash but there is obviously an invisble file that Im missing out on. Can anyone help please?

Is this in an install package or an installer Application ?.
If the former, Pacifist may allow you to inspect the files to see what checks are made, or even 'force' the install regardless of those.
Otherwise : try FindAnyFile & search for anything that may have the name included.

I installed the new version thinking it would be the same, It was horrible! uninstalled it... Installed the older version and now it won't open and when I try it says it can't because the library can't open because it was used on a newer version. Come on! I just want my music! How do I open this and get my music back.

I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."

  • Acrobat XI Pro Install via CCP Packager for Enterprise unuseable - tips for the unitiated

Well, after at least six weeks of trying to script and package Acrobat XI via the CCP packager for enterprise (Windows 7 X64) I have learnt many home truths which I thought I would share with the unitiated. This process, from the point of view of an IT admin who has to mass deploy this application to 680 PC's as part of an updated SOE has been the most painful scripting process I have ever found of any package (we successfully deploy Office, and Autodesk apps!). Not only that, but our entire State technical colleges have all purchased the same version. This will be affecting IT staff across a huge area, perhaps worldwide. Below are some some facts relating to this that I will share so others do not have to trawl the minefiled of dead-ends and confusion that is Adobe forums/official documentation. Apologies for not finding direct links to all of the below just yet but I've run out of time as we now have MANUALLY install Acrobat XI on all of these machines. When I get time I will post some of the links:
    Facts:
Acrobat XI and Lightroom are NOT "CC" packages. Therefore they rely on a spearate serial numbers to install standalone without another major Adobe product (eg Photoshop) to be installed and then run first. Otherwise they will run in trial mode. If your organistaion is wanting to install these products I highly recommend seeing if Adobe can provide you with these.
Without the use of serial number for Acrobat XI this almost renders the Customisation Wizard effectively useless, none of the silent install switch will work with "Offline Exception"
Yes, one Adobe employee notes that you must install a major package before Acrobat but as the aoplogies for not fixing this were posted last August, we are still in the quandry of not having any useable fix except for the ridiculous "Exceptions" file and Exceptions installer.
If you run the Build and/or execeptions msi's it installs Acrobat twice, gold Adobe, gold.
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6039529#6039529 - look at this for a working script for Photoshop etc, it's great. Thanks to http://forums.adobe.com/people/PetriRiihikallio for posting this. However, alas, it cannot silently install Acrobat correctly (thus far).
It appears that the msi builder for CCP for enterprise is fatally flawed. I have never had as much problem with installing msi's -  ever. For example, I have had to re-package the msi multiples times and many times simply running the msi will fail.
The idea that all major installs have to install the 32 bit version AND the 64 bit version is riduclous, enough said.
http://blogs.adobe.com/acrolaw/2013/02/acrobat-xi-deployment-guide-for-large-firms/ this guide may be useful for people who have been given a separate serial number.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/known-issues-acrobat-xi-reader.html another useful link
I think for the time being I have now wasted enough time trying to tear my hair out with this. I will be waiting for Adobe to announce Acrobat and Lightroom CC. this will enable the correct deployment of a single app without having the bloat my SOE with unnecessary applications that most staff rarely use. Ahhh, I love a good manual install via VNC/RDP, don't you?

Hi Waltpenner and others, yes it can be very confusing and writing script after script got me even more confused.
Now, the story continues, after 6+ hours on the phone with Adobe Support...
When you install Adobe Acrobat XI it asks you to install the C++ Redistributable package and this is where the msi will STOP INSTALLING. even though the MSI says "complete"
Now you think to yourself, OK, I'll write a script to install this msi package no problems, solved.
Nope, the msi for Acrobat Pro XI will Still Halt even if you write this into the script along with halt no err or something similar in your code.
    So what do you do?
When you create your msi in Cloud Packager, even though this feels completely against your better judgement tick the box under conflicting Process entitled "Ignore Conflicts and Continue installations" This will (finally) allow you to run the msi. Please see the wonderful deployment script above, which you may still need to edit to your needs (I did) - which I post once it's working perfectly.
You could then install the C++ redist from Microsoft at a later date ----> On that note however (thanks Microsoft for this gem) the Visual C++ redist is an msi for download, but it's actually a zip file calling an exe inside it. I suggest using the App Deploy Repackager  to help you change registry entries if you need to install this, but choose your favourite tool (and no I'm not talking about that work colleague you don't like
Note: You will need to install this for certain features of Acro Pro XI to function, most of which relates to sever functions of Acrobat. I will post the exact reasons when I find them. Under pressure to get this deployed, I have not deployed this pckage as yet. Also, I'm unsure how Visual C++ will affect other major apps across my enterprise just yet.
    Things to still consider
Acrobat still installs twice in the program directory (1.7GB nd 1.8GB respectively)
As all of the other CC packages are quite easy to install, Adobe needs to provide better service to it's enterprise customers by creating a proper version of Acrobat and Lightroom which is Acrobat CC and Lightroom CC, not version numbers tacked onto their new Cloud Service.
As for the above point I would still recommend creating the smallest msi packages you can, as large msi's that install a number of Apps (eg all of the web/image editing apps) take forever and quite often exhibit install errors
The amount of time I've spent on this is ridiculous, and we've had to package everything from Office to Autocad.
The amount of bandwidth I've chewed up is excessive, with package re-creation (download) of all the products probably about 100GB - however the ability to edit these packages with updates with the CCP is a good step forward.
Using the CCP through a proxy is horrendous, and complicated with the amount of exception through the servers you have to prvide (even then it rarely works).
The MSI packager still needs quite alot of work. As Petri states why he had to write a script like this when Adobe could have done the same thing is beyond him.
Adobe needs to trawl it's forum posts and take out the many false leads and dead ends provided by it's experts.
When I Think of anything else, or wite more scipts I'll let you all know.
    Cheers,

  • I've lost the use of Appleworks in 10.9.2. Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other?

I've lost the use of Appleworks by upgrading to 10.9.2.
Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other? I'd like to be able to boot to the older OS when I need Appleworks and  few other applications that aren't available on OS 10.9.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,
    wallah

Since the latest version of Adobe Flash Player wouldn't install after deleting the version I had that did work, should I try to install an older version?

    Hi,
What does "still won't work" mean?  Flash Player 10.3.183.90 is very old.  You might find that many sites require a newer version of Flash Player to view content, perhaps this is what you mean by "still won't work".   Depending on your system, you may be able to upgrade to OS X 10.6 which will enable you to install the newest version of Flash Player.  There's lots of information on this on the internet.  Just search for "upgrade OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6" or similar.

  • I want to re-install an older version of Flash Player but...

I hope this is the right place to ask this question...
I have a new dual processor pentium laptop and I upgraded to Flash V10.1 a couple of days ago. One web site I access regularly has now slowed right down and the video is unwatchable. My CPU meter runs at over 70% so I simply wanted to uninstall V10.1 and re-install V9. For whatever reason (I don't know if it is laptop, Win7 or Adobe), I am prevented from loading the older version. An Adobe window pops up and says that this (V9) is not the latest version, stops the install and points me back to the Adobe site to download the latest version. I have followed all of the guides to ensure proper uninstallation of V10.1. All very frustrating!
    Can anyone help - please?
    Thanks
    Ian

OK, here I am replying to myself but perhaps others may gain from this solution. Remember, this original post was "how to stop Adobe preventing me from installing an older version and forcing me to take the latest version...". I just wanted to re-install an older version to prevent big CPU usage and stuttering video. Well, this is what fixed it for me an allowed me to install Adobe Flash V9...
Assuming you have properly uninstalled Adobe Flash Player v10.n, you need to remove a folder and files from your registry. If you are unhappy to do this, then ask an expert - the registry is not somewhere you want to get lost in. I am also assuming you have the correct system permissions, Anway this is what I did:
    1. Go to start button and find (and run) REGEDIT.EXE
    2. Rather than give you a specific path to follow, it is best to simply use REGEDIT to find the folder by clicking "Edit" then "Find".
    3. You are looking for a folder called "SafeVersions".
    4. When you find it, it may show a number of safe versions (previous loads of the player).
    5. From the left window pane, right click on the aforementioned folder then click "Delete"
    6. Respond to any prompts you might get, like, "do you want to do this..." etc.
    7. Close down all applications in the normal manner and reboot.
    8. When restarted, go back on line and download the V9 (or whatever version you want). You'll know its a good 'un as it loads in a fraction of the time.
    9. Go back to your web page or whatever and, hey presto, everything is back to what it was before that hungry V10.n was uploaded.
Hope that helps, it might be nice if the Adobe uninstaller deleted this registry entry, but it doesn't - or at least in Win7 on my PC, it didn't.
Let me know it the above works for you.
    Thanks and good luck

  • New Mac Mini Server, two Hard drives, Can I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

New Mac Mini Server, has two Hard drives, could I install an older Mac OS on the second drive and switch start up disks to run PowerPc applications?

I haven't purchased a Mac Mini at this time and I may not if I can't use it as a non server. I need to update my system I would be better off buying a new Mac with Snow Leopard the last app that will run Rosetta. The Mac Mini Server has a quad 2.0 processor and 4 GB RAM and two internal hard drives and should out perform my dual 1.25 G4. I can run PPC apps on my G4 but it is 8+ years old and seems to be getting noisy. I don't want to tie myself to another old machine. I want a machine that will work with Intel Apps I was hoping that the two hard drives would allow me to boot from the second with Snow Leopard and use Lion on the first drive to be able to keep up to date with all my other universal apps and Mac OS up grades. The application I use the most is my CanvasX app with drawing & vector effects, text & typography, sprite technology, painting, image editing, and multimedia tools are all in this one app but will not be updated to run Intel apps. I am frozen in time because my most valuable Application won't be updated and Apple has cut me off by not supporting PPC in Lion and onward; Apple used to backward support but I guess that they are no longer as user friendly and concerned with a happy user. I have always been a loyal Mac user and I will not migrate to Windows under any circumstance; I hate windows!
    Thanks for your prompt response,

  • When I try to install an older version of Adobe flashplayer I get a message that says there is no application that can open it

I have a MacBook Pro and using Mountain Lion.  Adobe automatically updated flashplayer and that wouldn't allow me to use my camera with skype.  I uninstalled flashplayer but cannot install an older version, when I try I get, "Safari can't open the "playerglobal11_4.swc" because no available application can open it."

First repair permissions and restart your computer.  Reinstall the latest version of flash player.  Again repair permissions and restart your computer.

  • Installing an additional package

I'm probably going to sound incredibly stupid here, but I don't know how to install a new package. I'm trying to get the jakarta POI package working with my JDK, but I'm not sure how. I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it, but I'm not sure what to do with the files now. I have a .jar file in that folder, which is probably what I should use, but I really don't know how. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks so much! :)

My program compiles fine now, but I get this
    exception:
    Exception in thread "main"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
    org/apache/poi/hssf/usermodel/HSSFWorkbook
...How can I make sure I include
everything I need to and make it actualyl work?
    Thanks! :)
Unless you're given instructions on what to include in the classpath by the 3rd-party stuff you're using, you'd have to use trial-and-error to figure it out. From the error above, you know that you need whatever JAR has the org.apache.poi.hssf.usermodel.HSSFWorkbook to be put in your classpath (at run-time). If you have WinZip, you can open up each of the JAR files (they're just basically ZIP files with a JAR extension) and look for the "directory" org/apache/poi/hssf/usermodel with the HSSFWorkbook.class in it.
