Installing and running mySQL on Mac OS 10.4

I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the
right direction. I've installed mySQL, and in Terminal got so far
as getting the response "Starting MySQL database server", but then
it just goes to a "/usr/local/mysql Bob$" prompt, and nothing else
happens. Did it launch? I've been told I need to use a script via
the command line mysql utility, but can't seem to find where that
is.
When I search for help on the Web, I find many, many articles
for advanced users, but nothing that gives a step-by-step
walkthrough to someone just trying to install mySQL successfully on
Mac 10.4 and make it work with CF. Is Mac making this such an
endeavor? Thanks.

Does anyone know of a good telephone support firm that could
help me get everything working, including mySQL? Might be worth it.
Thanks

  • Will Adobe Illustrator 10 install and run on the Mac OSX Snow Leopard system?

    Hello,
I am trying to find out if Adobe Illustrator version 10 will install and run  on the Mac Snow Leopard system.  Will it?
Also,  Will Adobe Photoshop 7 (last photoshop version before Adobe CS) run on the Mac Snow Leopard system?
I know that many older versions of Adobe software for Mac will not work on OSX because of a change in the CPU designs.
    Thank you.

I don't think so. Both of them should not work on MAC Snow Leapord.

  • HT4587 I downloaded Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility.

I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • Is it possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server in a Virtual Machine software like Parallels

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.
    Thanks

    From the Parallels website:
    32-bit Operating Systems
Windows 8 with: Windows 8, 8.1 (when available)
    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0

    Windows 7 SP1
    Windows Vista SP0, SP1, SP2
    Windows Server 2012
    Windows Server 2008 R2, SP2, SP1, SP0
I do suggest that you upgrade RAM to at least 8gig
    if you haven't already.
FWIW, I currently use Win8/64 bit with Parallels on a 2011 Mini Server
using the windows environment for engineering applications and have
had no issues.  I am running Mountain Lion but do not have the

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi ..
You can redownload previously purchased apps from the App Store using the same Apple ID on all your authorized Macs for free.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

Microsoft has not written IE for Macs for a long time.
If you want to use IE on a Mac, you would have to use virtualizaiton software such as VMware or use BootCamp and install Windows.

  • Installing and running Arch linux on the new MacBook 2015

So Apple has just started taking orders for the new 2015 MacBook. You know --
the thinnest and lightest MacBook to date (even thinner than the MacBook Air),
with a 12 inch retina display, the Intel Core M processor, a single USB-C port,
and the new force touch trackpad.
I'm pretty sure there are a few people like me who'd like to buy this new
MacBook and then install and run Arch (or some other flavor of linux) on it.
But of course, this MacBook is in many ways very dissimilar to previous MacBook
Pros and MacBook Airs. So this thread is a shout out to likeminded individuals
who are willing to brave the odds and install Linux on this new machine, so we
can help each other figure out (and hopefully fix) the inevitable issues that
will arise when we venture into this uncharted territory!
I have a little bit of experience installing and running Arch on MacBook Pros
and other Apple computers, but I'm (very) far from being an expert. But based
on my limited experience, I think the following areas will pose the biggest
challenges to getting Linux properly up and running on the new MacBook:
    1. Installation: it's possible that booting a live USB will fail. So we might
have to use a CD. Indeed, perhaps we may even have to build a special ISO
image for this laptop. And once the install is complete, EFI/EFISTUB booting
with/without refit/refind may or may not work. Also, installing a bootloader
(grub, gummiboot, etc.) for dual booting Mac OS X and Linux may be a
challenge. We might have to endure kernel panics and deal with cryptic error
       messages while booting.
    2. Wifi may or may not work reliably. We might have to do some tinkering with
       different drivers, etc.
    3. Battery life may not be very good. We might have to fix a few things here.
    4. The HiDPI retina display may or may not work properly with specific window
managers/desktop environments. Fonts/icons might be too tiny, may not scale,
       etc.
    5. The new Force touch trackpad may not work out of the box. In fact, I'm
fairly sure the regular xf86-input-synaptics package won't play nice with
this trackpad. There may not be support for features like the trackpad's
haptic feedback, multi-finger gestures, pressure sensitivity, etc. Indeed,
this might actually take a while to get properly working under Linux.
    6. I don't know if the new USB-C port will work out of the box. It may not
play nice with USB flash drives and other peripherals and there may be
       issues with ehci/uhci/whatever.
I tried Googling around trying to learn as much as I could about the issues
above, but since the laptop is going on sale only today and most users are
probably not interested in running Linux on it, I came up quite empty. I think
many others on this forum might also have faced the same issue.
So here's an open invitation. Let's share our experiences trying to get linux
working on this laptop. If you buy this laptop and try to install Arch on
it, please let us know how it went! Even if some things work out of the box, it
might be useful for others to know, so please share.
And of course, if you have more information/gotchas: for example, if you
encountered and managed to fix one or more of the issues above, or you
encountered a problem that's not on the list above, or even if you tried
something and it didn't work out as expected, please post below. I'm sure this
will be a very big help to others trying to solve similar issues on the same
    hardware. Thanks!

It would probably be beneficial to post the output of lsusb -vvvv and dmesg.

    2. Broadcom BCM4360 AirPort Extreme, not supported.
    5. The new Force touch trackpad and keyboard, both SPI bus devices, do not work.
On 2, it may just be a case of needing firmware, my laptop has a BCM43602 card, and the firmware required has only just been added to the linux-firmware package.  Prior to that I had to install it manually.
On 5, I'm wondering if you identified them as SPI devices by looking in OS X, I ask because my laptop categorises my keyboard and trackpad in the same way.  But they are actually still both connected to the USB bus, and presumably using SPI as an interconnect between the keyboard/trackpad and the microcontroller that tie them together.

I have been trying to install Photoshop CS6 & CC and Acrobat Pro XI on my Mac Pro (late 2013). I keep getting a 'configuration' error message and wondered if the problem was wide spread.

Good to hear someone has had success. The lack of it here is frustrating and depressing.

  • Installing and running Endeca on Crunchbang (#!)

    Greetings-
I am trying to install and run Endeca on my Crunchbang system [see below for distro details] .
I finished installing packages and deploying a sample application from deployment_template successfully. However the initialize_service.sh fails.
Please help me if you can figure out where I might be going wrong.
The following are the steps I followed:
I downloaded the following packages from this link https://edelivery.oracle.com/EPD/Download/get_form?egroup_aru_number=16289751
V33316-01 Oracle Endeca Platform Services 6.1.3 for Linux x86-64
V37711-01 Oracle Endeca Content Acquisition System 3.1.2 for Linux x86-64
V37714-01 Oracle Endeca MDEX Engine 6.4.1 for Linux x86-64
V37716-01 Oracle Endeca Tools and Frameworks with Experience Manager 3.1.2 for Linux x86-64
The Oracle Endeca Commerce Compatibility Matrix, January 17, 2013 does not  advise on the above versions.
I ran the installation scripts and used default settings, as advised, when prompted.
All package installation is in "/usr/local/endeca/" which has four subdirectories viz.
    CAS
    MDEX
    PlatformServices
    ToolsAndFramework
    $ENDECA_ROOT is /usr/local/endeca/PlatformServices/6.1.3
I tried to install the sample application from the deployment using deploy.sh
    /usr/local/endeca/ToolsAndFramework/3.1.2/deployment_template/bin/deploy.sh
The installation succeeded, with defaults, the application was deployed in "/home/my_username/endeca/apps/"
The initialize_services script gives the following error:
    my_username@crunchbang:~/endeca/apps/MyApp2/control$ ./initialize_services.sh
    ./initialize_services.sh: 11: [: unexpected operator

  • HT1338 I have MacBook with OS 10.5.8. Is there any way for me to install and run keynote on this machine? Do I need to upgrade OS and how? Thanks

I have MacBook with OS 10.5.8
Is there any way for me to install and run Keynote on this machine? Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Keynote '09 is compatible with your computer, but you won't get the latest Keynote version running that version. As you have an Early 2008 MacBook, first I recommend you to update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard to get newer versions of all applications but without losing any applications > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Make a backup before upgrading.
The DVD contains Mac OS X 10.6.3, so after upgrading, open  > Software Update to update to 10.6.8. Then, you will get access to the App Store.
However, the Keynote version available in the App Store is only compatible with OS X 10.7.5 or newer, so now you have two options:
    1. Upgrade to OS X Lion and purchase Keynote from the App Store.
    2. Keep Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, and buy Keynote on a DVD in eBay or Amazon. Note that you won't be running the most recent Keynote version, but it doesn't mind (the latest version only adds iCloud support)

    - You can only sync with one iTune library but you can manually music music and vides with different computers. To do so go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - To get iTunes to see the iPod:

  • How can I install and run a Windows program on my MacBook Pro/?

How can I install and run a Windows program on my MacBook Pro?

    You have several options.
1, Use a Virtual Machine like Vmware, Parallels etc... to Create a Virtual Windows Installation and Run your program in there.  A Virtual MAchine will runn in a Window on your Desktop and share your Mac's resources RAM HD space processor. Your MAc desktop will still be available while you run Windows install.
    http://www.parallels.com/
    2. Install Windows on a partition using Bootcamp. It will run a full installation of Windows you can boot into, and run your programs.  The Mac desktop will not available until your reboot the computer and start in OSx instead of Windows.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
    3. Use Wine /  Winebottler to run the Application without the need for a complete Windows installation.

ok thanks, that's what I tought, looks like apple machines are only good for two - three years, the software developers are ahead of the hardware to a certain point, love macs but this is forcing us to buy new macs just to keep  up with development. There was a time it was the opposite.
By the time we get up on new stuff it's time to change again. Gotta be rich to deal with macs ...LOL

  • Install and run lepoard on a usb-harddrive

Hi! I wonder if it is possible to install and run leopard on an external harddrive with my macbook. The reason is that my harddrive has failed and I wont be able to get to mac service provider in a near future.
    Thanks!

This is easy to do and works well. Use your install disk to boot from while holding the C Key down. Now pick your external drive and install leopard just as you would on the internal drive. Choose custom installation so you can get rid of the extra language files and other stuff you don't want. To boot from it hold down the Option key to allow you to choose the external as the drive to operate from.
