Installing and updating applications

I have TiBook, OS X 10.4.6
I installed Appleworks 6.2.7.
It did not ask me for my password before installing with an administrator account.
Then, I downloaded the 6.2.9 updater from dot Mac and tried to use it.
It kept stopping on an error and said I did not have enough privileges to use the updater and kept stopping.
I then switched to a user account and the update proceeded to work.
It also did not ask to authenticate the installation.
Isn't this strange behavior? Or is it because the app is so old?

It is strange behavior. When you run it, check the About Box and make sure it is the correct version and the update really got installed. Also, run Disk Utility and repair permissions. That might help, but I doubt it.
How, as long as you're here. Have you tried MS Word? MS didn't get where they are today because of Windows. They did it because of Office. There are options these days to get Office relatively cheaply. You should consider it.

    Thank you for the quick response. I have no idea, there are no spesific detail just like pop up something or any notification received, it's just keep waiting when you clicl update or install. I've been waitng for an hour but it keeps waiting and got nothing to do. I've tried to tap so maybe i can resume to update or download, but nothing happen. I've already sign out my apple id and then sign in again and restart my iphone but i still can't update my existing application also to download a new application. Can you tell me what exactly happen? Is it my device?

  • Adobe Illustrator appears as "installed and updated" on Creative Cloud but I cannot find the Application on my Computer (Windows)

    Creative Cloud is installed and working on my computer, nevertheless the Application "Adobe Illustrator" appears as "Installed and Updated" but it is physically NOT in my computer.
    I cannot find the Application in my computer, I installed Photoshop and other Apps, they are all to find in my PC, except Illustrator.
    I tried to uninstall Creative Cloud and all the Apps that I had, I re-installed creative cloud but still it showed "Adobe Illustrator" as "installed and updated", even if I have no Adobe illustrator folder on my Computer, it really does not exist in my computer.
    What is wrong with the Application?

    All Apple iTunes Store accounts must have a valid form of payment set up. Even for free apps and updates. The Payment Declined message comes from your card issuer or payment source; Apple is just a pass-through for the message. You need to find out why your issuer is declining your card.

    In the end it was the NVIDIA software - excluding PS as application for support by high performance graphic processor to save energy - activated NVIDIA card use for PS & LR all fine now.

    The iPod is brand new, sent to me by Apple as part of the 1st gen replacement programme. I've been using the cable that came with the 1st gen iPod (I bought the first gen second hand) It always worked on my computer with the 1st gen iPod. So I was wondering, do you think I need to replace my cable in order for my PC to recognize my iPod or is it something else?

    Try a different cable. And are you connecting directly to your computer or through a USB hub?

    Because I know enough to be dangerous...  I was trying to extend the two outside columns down....  Instead of just using faux columns which I have fixed since I posted the question.
    The other link problem is the left sidebar links.  When you go to the event photos page I have a repeat of the sidebar links that are on the newsletter page.  I used named anchors on the newsletter page to link to the particular article.  From the Event Photos page the links look like this:

    The problem I am having is that some of these go to the newsletter page and the anchor and some do not (I get an error message saying it  can't find the page).  To add to the problem is that when we choose say the President's Message, when it goes to the newsletter page and the correct anchor, the newsletter page is missing all the links to the graphics... the photos are missing the graphic for the faux columns is missing.  It makes no sense.  When I preview the newsletter page from Dreamweaver everything shows up fine.
    I do not know if all of this is being caused because I haven't posted this stuff to the site or what.  I've tried re-booting both the browser and Dreamweaver, dumping the cache and still the same nonsense.
    Got any ideas?

  • Cd burning issue after installing and updating snow leopard

    After installing and updating snow leapard to the latest version, the cd burner for i-tunes quit working.  it says" burning disk initializing" then "burning disk finishing"  comes up with the error "the attempt to burn a disk failed.  the disc drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry.  Any suggestions to fix this problem?

    First try other disks, brand new, then try another brand, then consider backup user files and (clean and polish then) c booting off the 10.6.3 disk and simply reinstalling OS X then updating to 10.6.8 again.
    Hopefully this should fix the issue in OS X software, you may have to reinstall certain third party software again that it's kext files got kicked out of OS X by the reinstall.
    If you get hung booting at any time, simply hold the shift key down and then update your software then reboot normally

  • I'm trying to install and the Application Manager continues to "quit unexepctedly" can't figure out why!  Mac

    Trying to get Photoshop and says it needs to be opened with the application manager.  So as that is opening, it quits unexpectedly.  Any ideas? 

    1)Click on the Finder and look for the options listed next to Apple Icon located at the top left corner of the Desktop screen and click on "Go" menu button and select "Utilities" option.
    (Applications>Utiliites)
    Locate Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Application Manager folder under Utilities window and trash both folders.
    2)  Trash Adobe Creative Cloud from Applications as well.
    3) Click on the below link and download & run Adobe Cleaner tool :
    Select the option "Adobe Application Manager for Mac OS X 10.6" and then click on "Clean up Selected" .

  • Fresh install and update patch problems 119060-17 , 122213-10 , 122912-02

    Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
    All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
    I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
    Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
    Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
    I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.

    In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
    To quote part of mentioned thread above:
    "Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;

  • Not a question but a complaint.  The new ITunes software doesn't support the IPhone.  It is extremely difficult to find your IPhone, what applications are on the phone and to re-sync new and updated applications.  It is focused on selling and not support.

    The new ITunes software for Windows, ITunes vers. 11.0.1.12, is extemely clumsy for managing my IPhone 4.  The help material is designed for the older version so is of no use.  The interface is extremely difficult to use except for buying music or video.  I'm trying to managing updating applications and syncing with my IPhone but there I can't find a drop-down menu or anything on help that tells me how to get to the IPhone window so I can initiate a re-sync on my IPhone.  This is very frustrating because Apple is supposed to make things "intuitive" and have "good" help.  Well, it's NOT intuitive and there is NO HELP.  You need to fix this.  I mean a terrible map application and now this terrible interface.  Nothing but downhill since Jobs left us.  Just remember, we all bolted from Microsoft because of this sort of crap and we can all bolt to Android if you keep up this trend.

    View > Show Sidebar
    View > Show Staus Bar
    Deactivate Search Entire Library to speed things up.
    This should make managing your iPhone the same as it was before.

  • Powerbook won't sleep after OS install and update

    I replaced the original hard drive with a new drive, installed OS 10.4 from the boot disk, updated to 10.4.11, replaced original apps and user folder via Carbon Copy Cloner. Machine runs great, but won't Sleep, either from Apple menu or closing the lid, wakes up in 1-2 seconds. Had no problems prior to swap.
    Airport and Bluetooth are off, nothing plugged into the port. Trashed bluetooth.plist and restarted. Checked Energy Saver, set to "drive sleep when possible". Nothing new showing in StartUp items, or Activity monitor. Same whether battery or plugged in.
    The only diiference is that I typo'd my user name. I created a new Sys Prefs/Account, then deleted the old account. I've run Apple Disk Utility Repair/Permissions amd Onyx maintenance. Nothing scheduled to run in CCC or Onyx.
    Any advice is appreciated!

    I did Software Update via WiFi. It took multiple passes, as Java would install, Software Update would recheck, and then download the next version. Took about 5 passes, with 2-3 restarts to have everything updated vai S.U.
    I used a generic Tiger disc as the boot disc.

    i have this sorted, a misunderstanding it was not xdefender trying to connect with apple it was XProtect Updater from apple.
